Great people and a very thorough exam…read more Eye doctors I've seen in Holland left me waiting in the exam room then raced in and raced out again. Dr. Annis took his time and made sure any questions I had were answered. I have no reason to go anywhere else.

Dr. Annis is truly a good optometrist. However, if you want frames and lenses, the "optician" isn't…read morethe best - if she really is one. She's no expert on how to assess what frames are best for you and the selection is limited. If they don't have the color you want, she shows you what they can order from her I-pad. They had a style that I thought I wanted. I was wrong on that. Also, the only color (of 3) available on the rack had really dark frames - they were navy. Later, I found out that all three of the colors available had really dark frames. I couldn't tell by looking at a partial view on her I-pad. Furthermore, she informed me that the plastic frames I liked would fit my large (broken from falling on it in childhood) or wide bridge. Well, they didn't. My bad, had I known. I found plastic frames at Walmart that actually DID fit my wide bridge. Either way, I was wrong about the plastic - I had metal for YEARS; put off getting new glasses far too long, and like a babe in the woods I didn't really know what would work. I have them and realized eye pads would be better. However, when I went back and found the exact frames that I wanted (again, not the color I wanted - I had to see the color I wanted on the little I-pad in a close-up partial view) I was quite pleased; I picked these out myself, ignoring her selections. The color they did have in stock was a metal frame and vivid enough for me to know that any color, shape, and size would be fine in that frame and also much more comfortable. I told her I was sure on those (since I picked them out myself, knowing this second time how much her "expertise" was lacking). Then, she told me, "fine, but you'll have to wait until this color frame arrives here before WE can put lenses into them." I told her that I was sure that they would work and to go ahead with the lenses. She refused and said, "Oh, no" I'd have to see the color first and then wait another week (two weeks total). After all, it was my fault that the color wasn't there (supposed to be some rose swirl color - no matter - all 3 colors had the same DARK frames) and that they were the wrong size for my wide nose. Of course, she reminded me that I was the one who wanted plastic frames. OK, sure, I thought I did and I was wrong. Who is he "expert" here? For the $$ I was laying down, I'd expect an expert. Finally, knowing how inexperienced she truly was, I just told them to give me a refund. I found out that the whole package was over $400. Wow, I'm glad I got the refund! She NEVER did quote any prices to me on any of the available frames. A month later, I still don't have new frames as I have to go out of town to find reasonably priced ones; my time is limited. The doctor is great - a thorough exam was done and i was happy with that, for sure. He also sent me a letter of apology. However, if he wants to sell glasses, he needs to pay up for a real optometrist who knows how to advise a client in the right manner. She was young, curt and pretty clueless and I'm being nice. Also, in order to choose from a variety of frames, They should have better pictures available for colors. The ones I chose ALL had frames that apparently, looked black, aside from the one that they had on display - the sides were right but I couldn't tell by looking at the I-Pad (guess I mentioned that before). Someday, I'll get to "Eyeglass World."

My family has frequented Harbor View Eye Care for over 15 years for eye exams, contacts, glasses,…read moreand high-end Maui Jim sunglasses. Upon my recent visit to my hometown, Dr. Meengs gave me an 8:30 am, fast exam, fitted me for contacts, and explained everything in a friendly manner (5 Stars to that man, he is awesome!) But then I went to the front desk and the customer service took a verticle nosedive into Hell. An older man by the name of Brian took my paperwork. After Meengs returned to his office, Brian gestured toward a display and shortly said, "You need glasses. Pick something." I finished about, found some frames, and asked for lenses slightly weaker than my full-power prescription because I've struggled with migraines in the past. Brian simply said, "No." I pointed out that Meengs had agreed to do so. But Brain looked at my paperwork and said, "Only for your contacts. And I wouldn't have agreed to that. You should be wearing your full prescription." At this point, I thought I was speaking to a senior optometrist. After all, he had just voiced disagreement with Meengs' prescription. Sensing I would get nowhere, I asked for my written prescription so I could excuse myself. He gave me a paper for full strength glasses, which I hadn't even tried. Then he refused to give me a paper for the weaker contacts that I was actually wearing at that moment! Flabbergasted, I left, feeling as though I had wasted my time and money. Over the next week, Brian called me several times. He kept telling me, I needed to pay for glasses so that he could order them. Consistently, I asked for the slightly weaker lenses, the same strength as my contacts. Repeatedly, he dismissed anything I had to say and stubbornly told me, "No," and, "That's not legal," and "I won't change your prescription." Given how forceful and finite he spoke, I began to think that perhaps he was a new owner... I did not want to deal with such a pushy and unfriendly individual. Except he had sent in my Maui Jims to be fixed; I had to go back to pick them up! On the morning of my flight, I went to get my sunglasses. Although I approached him as friendly as possible, Brian was short with me. He overcharged me for the service of sending in my sunglasses. I asked for an itemized receipt, which he spent 5 minutes doctoring. I did not want to go around with him over $50. Except this time, my retired businessman-father was with me and he wasn't having it. Brian refused to go over the receipt. He REFUSED to give my father a PEN, (seriously!) He told us, "[we] should just leave," because he did not care what we had to say about how he treats his customers, "[he] was there to make money," and we weren't buying contacts or glasses. In the end, I went elsewhere to an ophthalmologist, and without issue, got what I needed. Both the ophthalmologist and an optometrist agreed, there is nothing illegal, nor liable, about selling weaker lens than a prescription, one simply won't have the best vision possible. 20/15 vision isn't worth migraines, not even 20/20 imo. So what's the best part of this customer's nightmare??? Brian is an OFFICE MANAGER!!! This stubborn, inhospitable man who voiced disagreement over my exam and my prescription is NOT an optometrist! Harbor View Eye Care is a nice store with a great location and an awesome optometrist, (Meengs.) BUT the 'non-owner office manager' is a grade-A.rrogant sob who has no business calling the shots on anyone's prescription, let along giving any type of medical advice. He should have referred to the DOCTOR who was literally down the hall or asked for additional paperwork if he felt anyway liable for filling a customer's request. Get this powertrip away from people or at least some hospitality classes!

Doctor Rebecca Jacquemin took me back to the exam room, asked what I do for work, what kind of strain I put on my eyes, all the usual exam questions. All in between she was so personable, and so fantastic and sweet. ( She also took an x-ray of the inside of my eye, and found out I have a freckle on my retina, thought that was interesting! ) Then came the shopping, and trying on pairs of glasses with the help of Linda Cope. She was honest on what looked good on me, and what didn't. I'm so thankful I found a great style thanks with the help of her, I didn't even notice the once I have now till she pointed them out. All that they did was offer a plastic sunglass-type covering to reduce the light. That really didn't address the type of pain I was having. The pain continued over the weekend. Rather than help, the office manager who I talked to dismissed my concerns by saying that she had never heard such a reaction in all her years there. I was able to request a follow-up appointment, but that won't be until next week. Apparently they are very busy. I cannot in good conscience recommend this practice.

The staff first gives you the cost of lens and frames with everything on it, which a part of it I think was dubious & not well explained, like how far to the sides I wanted to see with my lens which differed in price??? Never heard of that before but the total bill would have come to $400, which I said no, and she narrowed my side sight down which brought the price down to $200. I guess if I want to see that far to the side, I'll turn my head. After I got home I saw there was a charge for $30 for a protection plan, which I was not asked about or was it even explained to me. When I went back for my glasses I asked if there was something to show what that plan was. She showed it to me in their flip up book. I asked if there was a handout I could take home. She said she could copy the page for me. When i tried on my glasses they were crooked so the service person got them straightened for me. Thought they fit OK but when I got home I realized the part that goes around the ear was sticking out too much & I could pull my glasses off with out any resistance. I haven't been to the optometrist in 3 yrs. but i then remembered that places i had been before always adjusted the stems around the ear before i left. Obvious they come from the factory with the ear part higher because they need to be adjusted around the individual ears, however that was never done. i did go back the same day and & asked if there was someone there who was trained in adjusting glasses bc that should have been done before I left the place, so it was then done. I don't know if they are not trained that well or they are lazy. This is a chain, I don't think it is as reputable as a stand alone optometrist. I'm sure it's a starting point for a lot of optometrist, & I don't know what the chances are that the one I saw will be there next year. I don't plan on going back, it is not that reputable in my eyes
