I have gone to Marino's for 10 plus years, and lately, there is a new-ish girl there with platinum hair in a braid. She is RUDE, pushy, and always makes me feel like not coming back. She has a very condescending tone. So today She served someone first who came in after me. Then she rushed me to pay. The shop was not busy. I was having trouble with my phone, so I moved near the door to see if it would help, and she yelled at me! Aah, Mame, you need to complete your transaction!" I said, I'm working on it and she said Well, I'll just help this guy. After he left, I paid and told her what I thought of her tone and demeanor. I've been to this location many times with my friend Leeland and I love their Arabic coffee. They give you the sugar cubes and everything. The pastries are fresh made and delicious and go well with the coffee too, obviously. They have live shows and... wait for it... belly dancing. They can really groove and shake those hips, it's crazy. The menu is good too for food. It's been around a while and a nice spot to enjoy yourself. read more

It's a cute coffee shop! I went here during my trip to Portland to visit my sister, and the first thing I noticed was the decor. I don't have much to say because I only got one thing, but the one thing I did get -- a london fog latte with almond milk and lavender instead of vanilla -- was good! I love this place, but I don't recommend going for dinner on the weekends because of the noise level in the large dining room. I suggest either eat in the bar or go during lunch hours. Love the service, love the food, but I also like to be able to hear the people sitting with me, and that is difficult on busy nights. read more

I have been dining at this boutique coffee shop for over six months now and have to say it's one of my favorite breakfast hole in the walls. It's walking distance from my home and I can always count on an amazing hot cappuccino in a real glass - that's important to me as I hate plastic and paper. It's affordable fresh and has inside and outside dining. They also make a scrumptious breakfast sandwich which is ~ $6-8 and it's worth every bite. This is a lovely mom and pop cafe. They do not sell any alcoholic beverages here but they have a large selection of drinks and snacks. I visited this location to see a friend play in her band. The stage is small and the crowd packs the place. It was an enjoyable experience and moving around was not a problem. I plan on coming back and trying more snacks. read more

This place was really awesome! It is nearby the Village Merchants thrift store which is why we went into it (just right across the street)! I was very pleased with everything - atmosphere, staff, and food! The girl that helped me was from Italy and she was really kind and helpful. I spoke with another staff member and she was kind too! There were several people in there doing different things: some people catching up, some people studying, some just catching a bite to eat. The owner was in there (I am 90% positive it was him)...and it was precious. When we were leaving he just looked at us with a sweet smile and the upmost gratitude that it had to be him. I got some mint tea (they had a lot of options) and I also got the veggie panini which WOW! It had some kind of veggie spread that was different than any veggie sandwich I've had and it was amazing!! A friend of mine got a cake that was both chocolate and vanilla and it not only looked yummy but he said it was so good! I will 100% be going back! We took a trip to the Southeast section of town to see a poetry reading that my cousin performed in. A pre-Valentine's "Love sucks" themed, poetry set in a coffee shop seemed like the perfect Portland experience. The show was great. Although we didn't eat anything here, we did enjoy a couple Mexican Cokes in the bottle. The girls working here were very nice and accommodated the crowd that gathered for the show. There is a nice decor and vibe, the kind of place that would be nice for meeting people or getting some work done out of the office. Definitely a nice little cafe. read more

Stopped by here late at night. Got a spot of tea and a baklava. Their baklava is huge for the price. I've never seen a baklava that large before. Full of walnuts and honey syrup. I've been to Marino a couple times now, and each time I've gone, I've been struck by the wonderful hospitality of the owner, Dario, and the other baristas. Probably the friendliest coffee shop in Portland. Great clientele. It's nicely decorated, cozy (but not cramped), and has occasional live music (sometimes featuring Dario on guitar!). Not as much a fan of the 2003-2008 Top 40 Spotify playlist they had on recently, but whatever, it's still friendly, and I was still able to get work done there. The atmosphere is less "suburban living room" or "ultra-modern urban art gallery" and more "café in the Balkans." It lacks the palpable stress that many other PDX coffee joints have, with their bevy of nervous job seekers and students. Seeing as I was working on an application of my own there, it was nice to feel like somebody's guest, not someone else's distraction. As for the Turkish coffee, it's solid. I've had better, though not in Portland. It's beautifully presented and definitely cheap (a medium-sized pot is $4, a smaller size is $3). Not quite as strong tasting as other Turkish coffee I've had, but it's still provides a great boost of caffeine. Go at night when Dario and the boys are playing. They're quite good! I can also see this being a nice place for a low-key date. read more

I had the same sweet barista both times, who did nice things like give me a saucer to steep my tea better, heat my croissant, and offered me jam.
