Now that you're (ahem) middle-aged, you'll probably head to bed much sooner, but in the meantime, whip that laptop out, drink delicious house-infused coffees etc, and spend roughly $74,974 on cool stickers. i've been a regular at this coffee shop for several years now I really love the whimsy latte and the rose city latte. A personal favor is also going to be there pastry selections, but you gotta get there early in the morning! Today I went in for my usual latte and a sandwich combo, the latte was out in about five minutes, amazing! I did a walk this morning around work in the Brooklyn area. My work buddy, knows someone who works here and we had a delivery. I had no idea about this place. It's not just a coffee shop but a super quaint gift shop. Plenty of seating and the place was rather busy for 10 am on a Thursday. The pastries looked fantastic and I chose a plain cold brew because there were way too many options to try. My new favorite coffee shop! Parking lot was full but there was plenty of street parking. They've got a decent sized menu for both food and drinks. I ordered the London Fog and it was probably the best one I've had in a while. The space inside is pretty big and there's plenty of tables and outlets for everyone. My FAVORITE part of this coffee shop is their merchandise. It's very inclusive and the stickers they have are hilarious. My spouse and I found ourselves awake around 1 a.m. and craving coffee, which turned out to be surprisingly hard to satisfy in a city as big as Portland. We noticed that Rose City Coffee Co. was advertised as open, so we decided to head that way. They truly were open 24/7, and the staff was delightful, warm, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. I ordered a dark mocha while my spouse chose the Mellow Mule, a mocktail. Both were excellent. The dark mocha lived up to its name: rich, bold, and not overly sweet, making it perfect to sip on during a cold night. My spouse said the Mellow Mule had a nice kick and was really flavorful. The vibe was gorgeous. It captured that quintessential Portland feel with a touch of old-school bar charm. The baristas were absolutely so loud, I could hear them through my noise canceling headphones and the 1 bathroom had a constant wait of 10-15 minutes. The employees here are always so nice! I love their matcha and have tried a few of their pastries (all of which have been delicious). When I got a croissant, the employee even asked if I preferred a fluffier or more dense one. What a wonderful place to chill, eat and enjoy Portland! This place is spacious and lovely. Fairly loud at times, so not the best place if you're trying to focus. There are ample outlets and plenty of different seating options. WiFi was consistent and easy to use. The staff is friendly and kind. They gave me great recommendations on food to try. I went with the California and loved every bite. The coffee was solid and robust! I had an Americano and it was amazing without anything added. They even sell their own beans if you want to take the experience home with you. All of their menu items end in quirky amounts... what's that all about? They don't take cash, so be prepared to swipe or tap when you get here. There is a fun area near the entrance where they sell gifts and other oddities. So, you can basically get a lot done here if you bring a laptop, a gift list and a mug to fill! Be sure to check it out soon! read more

I've come here quite a few times now and I love this spot! The inside of the coffee shop is large and spacious with plenty of seating for studying or working with others. The staff here is so so friendly and I always love chatting with them as I order and wait for my order. The menu here is pretty extensive, featuring seasonal drinks, fun unique drinks, and your favorite classics. Coffee is always amazing, and I just love this as a study spot. I found this place when I went to visit Portland and was searching for a good London Fog. And I'm so happy I did! The store/cafe is so cute, really chill vibes, lots of people sitting and enjoying the space and their drinks. I walked in and immediately saw cute stickers, small decor items, stuffed animals, keychains - all sorts of great little gifts! The service was great. Everyone was so friendly and informative. My London Fog was perfect and I was so thrilled. This is definitely somewhere I'll come back to during my next Portland trip! :D read more

Rose City is doing third spaces RIGHT! It's so nice to see a cafe open past 6pm, more cities need to get on board with this ASAP. It's a great place to work, read, and connect with friends in a venue that isn't centered around alcohol (as much as I love beer). The physical plant notwithstanding, I had an amber latte here based on previous Yelp reviews, and it was FIRE. Get this if you like semi-sweet, well-caffeinated drinks that are delicious. If you prefer non-delicious drinks, that's really on you. But seriously, this is a great spot in SE Portland, well worth a visit! read more

Pros and only pros: -They roast their own wonderful coffee -They have the best gift shop, truly, I'm not a fan of stuff but I love their curated collection of gift items which include things like candles, mugs, books, stationary, games, art, jewelry and so much more! - The staff are some of the kindest and interesting people you'll meet in Portland. To the left of the order counter, you'll find picture of each staff person and some of their favorite things, so even if you're too shy or too busy to talk to them directly, you can learn a little something while you wait. - The food - YUM! I'm a bit of a creature of habit so I tend to order the same things most Saturday mornings when I tend to go to listen to music. I order the California on a bagel - it's cheese of your choice, an egg, avocado and red onion ($10.24, I think) The BLT is about the same price and well worth it, better than many others in town. They carry excellent baked goodies too, my friend absolutely loves to take home a piece of their Vegan poppy seed cake and a sandwich to enjoy later. - The have a lovely tea selection and all of the various coffee drinks you would expect along with a few unique flavor combinations that they've created. - I have yet to go in the evening, but I have noticed that they have a different menu and even mocktails to choose from. - The community, I know people who come at least once a week to meet with their friends or co-workers. I go most every Saturday for to listen to the local musicians they host from 11am - 1pm. - Great Wifi - Various types of seating and outlets at some, not all of the tables. If I'm forced to find something that might be a con, the parking lot has about 10 spaces for the coffee house, but I've never had a problem finding free street parking when the lot is full. I love a chatty cafe where speed is not the primary objective, but being in line to get a simple iced coffee to help me through a long day and having to watch the person taking orders talk and talk without trying to ring up A CANNED drink, and with a co-worker no less, was as frustrating as it gets. I waited and waited, but I hadn't even move up a person after 5 minutes (again, canned drink), and looking at how long it might take them to even get to my order I gave up. So now I'm tired and cranky. It seemed like they also knew the next guy in line, and I love a place they recognize the regulars. Good coffee and a great place to work! I got the Rose City Latte which has a subtle rose flavor but not too sweet which I love. The rose flavor is a bit bitter but not too overpowering. My boyfriend got the sweet mocha, it's sweet but he would prefer it to be sweeter. The chocolate flavor was good and it was a balance with the coffee. Overall the coffee is smooth and the drinks are delicious. We also tried the plain croissant which looked really good with the layers in the pastries case. The croissant tasted fresh and crispy but it doesn't have enough butter flavor to it. The staff is very nice and offered to warm up the croissant. The service is fast and the wifi is decent. The place is very spacious with a lot of tables and outlets. It's well lit and clean as well. I got to come back to my favorite coffee shop! Last time I came during covid. Now they updated the shop and it looks amazing. Service as always was stellar! The food and coffee was super fresh. Their bagels are soft and moist. The coffee is strong and not too sweet like that name brand crap. The inside of the shop now has great seating with electrical outlets on the wall above the tables. Great for someone working or doing schoolwork. The air conditioning was amazing of this super hot weekend. I also love all the merch and local artist work being sold. I was trying to find stuff I can bring back home as gifts. This place is a hidden gem. Oh and now there is outdoor seating with comfy wooden tables. I was a customer for five years until I found out how insidious this coffee shop really is. Rose City is like going back to high school. The baristas will talk about you behind your back, the owner thinks any request or criticism of the business is a personal attack on her. I suppose if you were one of the popular kids in high school you will fit right in, but the rest of us could face public ridicule, a barista could flirt with you in front of your wife, or you could be kicked out because you don't conform to their juvenile worldview. Instead of focusing on providing quality coffee and food, the first thing you may notice when walking into Rose City Coffee Co. is a collection of tchotchkes for sale. Products sit on the shelves for months, maybe years. The beans could sit on the shelves for months at a time. Even though the name suggests this business sells coffee, that isn't what is for sale here. What is for sale is a seat at your high school lunch table, where you can enjoy a coffee drink that is never made the same way twice, a sandwich that is falling apart as you eat it. I've watched as dogs were allowed in the building, allowed to eat falling scraps at the feet of their owners. Rose City fragrantly violated health code standards for a while until thankfully they did stop and now only allow service dogs. Rose City refuses to accept cash as a form of payment which violates Oregon State Law. The most vulnerable people in our community rely on cash to pay for things. If you ask the owner why they don't accept cash Christy will gladly explain it is because of the fear the business will be broken into and the cash stolen. There are several ways of running a business that could mitigate that possibility like putting up a sign that says "no cash left on the premises after night", have a responsible employee open and close and remove the cash from the premises at close. I used to take cash for a business I worked for to the bank. At Rose City Coffee Co. they use the bogus excuse the shop will be robbed. Instead I think it's because the homeless don't fit in the narrow worldview of the people working there. Homeless people are part of the community, but instead at Rose City they get treated as "The Other". Low income folks that may rely on cash more than others aren't all violent, destructive people. Maybe one of them just wants a coffee. Not here if all you have is cash. I've sat at tables and watched Rose City employees remove homeless people that were not making a scene. In the five years I have frequented the shop, Rose City Coffee Co. I've watched baristas come and go but none of them were men. I think I understand what the owner is trying to do, but women deserve jobs in loftier positions than a barista where the position is more likely occupied by men. There isn't a problem they are solving at Rose City by only hiring women. Plenty of men, women, people that identify as any gender are baristas already. The exclusion of men from being an employee is not how we bring equity to the workforce. Perhaps if there were a more diverse workforce at Rose City it would operate better. Brooklyn needs good businesses run by sensible people that will contribute to the community and not just own businesses to make a profit off of us. Rose City Coffee Co. buys the cheapest ingredients for their coffee drinks and food items. The milks can contain emulsifiers the FDA hasn't banned but are banned in the EU. Some might think Rose City is just buying milk products like any other coffee shop, but if you ask other owners of coffee shops they will take pride in the milks they source, the ingredients used in making the food, or will partner with bakeries they know offer quality goods. The Co-Op down the street for instance will give you Garry's cream for your coffee. Rose City only puts the cheapest ingredients in your food. Cheap doesn't also translate to good for you. It's hard to find drinks on the menu or food items for anyone trying to lose weight. Most of the drinks are sugar-filled. If you want better coffee, the Co-Op down the street offers better coffee at a lower price. Avant even further way offers rotating coffees from all over the world made at much higher quality than Rose City. If you are a woman, you can be continually be harassed by a local man that frequents this shop that asks women if they need help getting pregnant. The floors and tables are not cleaned as often as I would like. The floors in particular are fairly dirty. Five years ago I walked into Rose City with rose colored glasses but now I walk out because the employees here publicly humiliated my wife, they charge ridiculous prices for drinks made with low quality ingredients, and the shop refuses to take cash as a form of payment which is illegal under Oregon State Law. I expect business in the neighborhood to be law abiding, but instead we have a coffee shop that fragrantly violates the law. read more

Quality of food has gone down, every time the order is prepared incorrectly, sandwiches missing ingredients, ordered 2 sandwiches and only got 1. They blame their printer and keep making the same mistakes. Egg sandwich barely has 1 egg. Why ? Ambiance is good but good luck getting what you actually ordered. read more
