Excellent food and service. Great find on our way to Boston. Only a couple mile off the highway and was great for a break.

Stopped in to try some of their pizza and asked for two plain slices to go. Was told by the child working behind the counter that they didn't have slices right now. And that was all. At no point did he tell me we have some pies in and it will just be a few minutes or anything like that. I will not be back here. read more

Son and friends went to dinner here and were disappointed with the portion sizes. Thought it was over priced. Food was ok nothing special.

Full disclosure: I've been coming here since I was born... literally. There is a reason for it though - consistency. I've never walked away with a bad meal. Yes on a rare occasion, someone in training may have screwed up an order but you're talking about one in several hundred. Plus they do whatever to make it up. Tommy has done a fantastic job with this establishment and it's sad to see him go. I hope the new owners don't get rid of his recipes and prices. That's what keeps people coming back. The food is very authentic southern italian Neapolitan style. nice thin crust 12 and 16 in pies. The mini canoli and ricotta cheesecake a must try. Family run. Soccer always on the tv and great pace for Sunday brunch smorgasbord. Bravo Mario! read more

Mario the Baker provides excellent food at an affordable price. We have been going here consistently since we moved to North Stamford from Glenbrook, and becoming frequent customers of this business has been a blessing. The culinary team at Mario Baker cares about quality food; they care about the customer too. We have family from Easter Connecticut who always order the lasagna when they are here and love it. Their discounts are always very generous and they are very consistent in advertising them. This is an excellent business in the Mid-Ridges, North Stamford, Newfield, and Turn of River areas of Stamford. read more

Food was ok but horrible service. The server literally plopped the dishes on the table, walked away and only came back with the check. No napkin, no "do you need anything else?" She looks so miserable I think she should find a job where she doesn't have to interact with the public. Maybe the pizza and counter service are better but I don't recommend table service. read more

Forty two years ago I went on a date to my friend Marios new pizza place in Stamford. We both had a great time, and loved his great food. Hand tossed pizza is becoming a lost art, and never seen here in upstate NY. I have recently had the great fortune of reuniting with the same young lady I dated in 1969. I am hoping a trip to Stamford, a dozen roses, and a trip to Mario's will be as memorable as it was then. Great Italian cuisine is missing here in TV dinner land. Best Pasta Fagioli in Stamford!!! I've been coming to this restaurant for years. It's pizza is more of a New York style as opposed to the thinner crusts, different but just as good as the best pizza in Stamford!!! Great family restaurant!! But i swear, if you go and don't get the pasta fagioli, you will lose sleep over it. read more

The pizza was pretty good. The service, on the other hand, was awful. Our waitress appeared miserable and despite multiple attempts to engage her in a friendly way, she retained an air of annoyance. Our meals were also staggered with the earliest arriving about 5 minutes before the last. That's just poor form to have someone waiting for 5 minutes while the there at the table are eating. I have ordered delivery from Mario's for over 20 years. I am so so disappointed. The entree's, which I paid $16 for are disgusting. It came burnt and such a small portion that I was embarrassed to serve to my guests. Will not , and I repeat, will not order from there again! Crazy expensive and I don't mind paying for quality, but this is to much. Will call vila italia next time! Much Much better!!! read more

We are a little picky about our pizza so we order it extra well done. I'm sure it's annoying for them to hear, but they do it every time and we absolutely love it. Unfortunately there are not a lot of good pizza places in Stamford. We are used to Fairfield whee there are a lot of good options. No, just no. For starters, the food here is very bland. My boyfriend got a very dry unappetizing salad to start which I refused to try. I myself ordered mozzarella sticks and had one before passing them over to him, only because he's a human garbage disposal. They were so gross, almost all breading and luke warm-cold... No stringy cheese mozzarella sticks for me. They definitely came out of a box, but that being said the ones I get at Costco soar past these with flying colors. When the pizza came, I again was not impressed and ended up leaving hungry. I know it was the end of the night, but it's a small place, and the server started putting up all the chairs around us. Once all the chairs were up he began vacuuming all around us!!!! He even started at the table next to us!! We could not have any type of conversation for ten minutes while he vacuumed! I wanted to go tell him to stop but was convinced not to. Definitely not coming back. read more

This is one of the few places left that still serves iconic New York style thin crust pizza done just right. Great crust, great sauce, authentic cheese, yummy toppings. What more is there to say. Whenever I get up to Stamford (usually to visit my in-laws) we try to escape and have a lunch here. There is other stuff on the menu besides pizza and some of those sound pretty appealing, but I've never ordered them. The lure of the pizza is just too strong. There isn't much ambiance and very little parking, but it is soooo worth a trip. read more

My wife and I have been enjoying the food at Mario's for about 25 years. Food is very good, Pizza is excellent and if your looking for a family atmosphere - this is your place. Some of the people serving in this restaurant have been working here as long as we have been patronizing it. Today - was the topping on the cake. We stopped last night for dinner. there was a line for take out - "Halloween". We were served portly even with the high take out demand. I left or dropped my wallet as I was leaving. I didn't even know I had lost it yet. The owner of Mario the Baker delivered my wallet to my house today. Went out of his way to get it back to me. This tells you allot about this retardant and the integrity of the people working there and running it. My father was in the restaurant business -- he used to say ' where goes the owner - goes the business". Great food -- great family! Thank you!! read more

Bland pizza, soggy pasta, terrible service. I returned to Mario's after about 10 years, and was reminded of why I stayed away. The food was very the worst I've had in a long time. Tomato sauce / gravy had no flavor. Arrived at our table cold after "a mix-up in the kitchen" and my friend watching our plates sitting on the counter as others got served ahead of us. A huge disappointment. They will have to step up their game if they want to compete with new restaurants in the area. There are better choices very close by. read more

Strange place. It's almost like they'd rather you carry it out than eat in? Unless I missed an overflow area, there are about 6 parking spots so it's kind of hard to get in and out of... service is spotty (they make you get your own drinks, even beer or wine from the cooler) and almost acts like you're bothering them. They keep the red pepper flakes on the tables, but you have to ask for a jar of parmesan... and then lastly, although they take credit cards, they won't let you tip on the credit card. They expect the tip to be in cash (very annoying). Again, it's just a strange place in my opinion. The pizza was ok, nothing I'd ever crave. Had the food been as poor as the rest of the experience, I'd give it one star. read more

Ordered Mario Special. Tasty good but there was something about the taste that was weird. I dont know what it was. Service is slow. Took 50 mins to get pizza during friday late lunch time. No one was around. Pizza is only $16 that good price. Maybe I will go back again to try something else. Parking is limited. read more

I have been going to Mario's since it opened although I had not been there in 15 years because we moved. I can only say it has gotten better. The pizza has always been a staple but now they have added dozens of new items such as hot oil pizza which I had. I don't know if they are capable of putting out a bad meal. Dana the waitress does a great job taking your order without writing anything down and delivering it as requested. I can't remember going someplace when my wife and daughter cleared their plates (pasta). Now that we are back in the area we will be back often. This is my thanksgiving tradition pizza. Every year for 10 years, we come here after father-son thanksgiving day football and go to town. The pizza is always good and the atmosphere, while boring, is very family friendly. Mario's is nothing special, but its consistently good pizza for family and friends if that's what you're going for. read more

We've tried several pizza places in Stamford, and so far this place is our favorite. We love the thin crust with calamata olives and hot cherry peppers! So tasty. If only the slices were just a little bigger. When we call ahead, the pizza is consistently ready within 15-20 minutes. read more
