My wife and I visited Colony Cats, Cat Welfare, and Cozy Cat Cottage to name a few. With all of the wonderful potential fur kids we saw we didn't see the one that we just connected with. We decided to go to Pets Without Parents as it was a rescue that we had not been to before and it was just down Indianola from our house. We had no expectations when we went to PWP other than we knew that they were a smaller rescue that was located in an older house. When we walked in we were pleasantly greeted by a volunteer and showed where the hand sanitizer (so that we could clean our hands between kitties). The individual who greeted us was figuratively knee deep in cleaning dog cages but, she was friendly and responsive when we had questions. There, in the center cage on the bottom was this beautiful kitten! Both of our hearts melted when we saw him, as he was nearly the spitting image of the cat we had just lost. The individual working the shelter that day let us know that those two kittens were meant to be picked up today by the person that was adopting them. Our hearts collectively dropped as then we knew that of the cats at PWP, these were the ones that we shouldn't get attached. We petted all the cats that we could, well save the brand new box of feral kittens! I am sure that in no time they'll be adoptable little fluffs! Despite not seeing a cat/kitten we connected to we decided to put in an application. The application was very similar to others you might see when adoption a new animals. Asked for references, job information, current pet information, veterinary contact, as well as things the adopter's view on declawing. Much to my surprise I received a call the very next day from the PWP shelter manager! I thought that the call may have been to clarify the application we had submitted but, it was not. The adoption on the beautiful kitten (that was meant to go home the day before) had fallen through. They wanted to know if we would like to come meet the little we had seen the day before. We quickly (and gleefully) went back to PWP to officially meet & pet this kitten. Cat carrier in tow, of course, just in case! If you adopt through PWP you get a wellness check up card for use at the vet where the animal has received their vaccines & spay/neuter. We took this offer so that we could get our new little friend checked out before we established him at our vet. This was great as he had a cold (that they were treating him for) and we were able to proceed to the next step in treatment, an antibiotic shot to help knock out the remainder of the kitty cold. The adoption contract at PWP is more heavily worded than others might be. There is a provision in it where if the contract is broken that PWP can seek money from the adopter who has broken the contract. It seems to me that this is included to bring home the gravity that is the responsibility of adopting a furkid. Oh, and I can verify that the folks at PWP do check references, which is great since they are working to place pets in well suited homes. P.S. Pets Without Parents is loud. With the pupsters looking for a new home in the adjacent room, any kitten/cat adopted from these guys will likely be a-okay with loud sounds and barking dogs. Train tracks also run right next door to the rescue. P.P.S. Our new kitten is fitting in purrfectly at home.

We adopted Alice from the Madison County Humane Society this summer and are very happy with the…read moretreatment we received from the staff. They made every effort to place Alice in our home and she has worked out wonderfully with our other dog (Ethel). This humane society is located just outside of Columbus, Ohio across the Madison County Line; literally in a corn field. When we were there we noticed the dogs all had food and water and the pens were clean. We have visited other shelters and can not say the same but this place really cares about the animals and the conditions in which they live. If you live in the Columbus area I would highly recommend a trip to Madison County.

There were three sections of vendors with lots of pet food samples, treats, and toys. There are also vendors selling great pet products, local dog rescues and everything dog related you can think of. The line for the Kong bag was worth the wait.

I think it was the attention she got but I don't know, she enjoyed seeing all the vendors there that day too. Bella tells me her favorite vendors were the ones with the tennis balls they gave away. Those were her favorite toys at this event. She didn't care about the treats, that was an extra. (I know we have a strange dog here not caring too much about all the free treats at over 20 booths but she had fun!) Bella and I took home lots of treats, toys and food from vendors like Pet People, Mutts and Co, doggie day cares, etc. She was even kind enough to share her food and treats she received with her friends. See she does have a good heart sometimes! My girl even got a signature from the local news anchors Karina Nova and Molly Brewer from 10TV. I cannot wait to come back next year and experience all the vendors from pet stores to trainers, local media stations, etc. We had so much fun and appreciate all the time and attention these vendors put into this event to make it a great day!

It…read morelooks like a lot of us are which is why I had some bad thoughts of crazy lab experiments and heaping plates of sketchy stir fry when my neighbor told me about a couple ladies who were combing the area picking up stray cats. But I didn't need to worry. They were volunteers with A Purrfect Start animal rescue in Grove City. On their own time and dime, they were picking up strays to be spayed and neutered and then were returning them to the area, left ear clipped to show they'd been taken in. Purrfect Start has been helping homeless animals, both domestic and feral with food, shelter, fostering, adoptions and also spaying and neutering since the summer of 2008. Kudos to these special folks for doing the right thing. In addition, I recently adopted in one of the kittens they returned to the area. She's a sweetheart named Tawney. but I just call her Ton-Ton. 5 Stars.

We went here for an adoption event.. got two puppies, didn't have them any longer than 2 weeks and…read moreone passed away from parvo and the female tested positive for parvo also.. the emergency vets are trying their bests to get her to pull through from this. They had like 20 puppies in one room with also a full grown dog.. unorganized for real. But no one and nothing will convince me that this shelter didn't know those poor babies weren't sick. I called and let them know so they could at least call the people who adopted the other puppies to keep an eye on them.. she didn't sound shocked that one was dead when we told her what was happening.
