This is one of my favorite trails to visit, especially during the Texas heat because the area is very well shaded. I always bring my dogs here, and they absolutely love it. The last few times I visited during weekends or holidays, it was pretty crowded with teenagers running around and a lot more activity. But this time it was quiet and you could hear the birds, so peaceful. Everyone around the trail was very respectful. There were people cycling, walking their dogs, hiking, and just enjoying the outdoors. I also love that there are different trail options depending on how long or challenging you want your walk to be. There's a nice mix of uphill and downhill sections, which makes it even better. Plus, the nearby dam area is perfect for taking a break and cooling down. One thing I really appreciated this visit was how clean everything looked. Previously, I had noticed quite a bit of littering, especially broken glass bottles, which can be really dangerous for dogs. Thankfully, this time around the trail looked much cleaner and better maintained. read more

"This is Texas? Surely this is really in Missouri or California." Yes, Marion Sansom Park is found in the suburbs of Dallas/Fort Worth. And stop calling me Shirley. Turn off the main road through Avondale onto an old narrow street, and you'll arrive at a good sized hilly lawn that announces that you are at the park. It's conveniently located close to the 820 loop, and has a large parking lot. The park is named after a prominent rancher from the late 19th century, and overlooks Lake Worth, a reservoir created with an earthen dam in 1914. When the park was created in 1933, it was likely very far from the rest of the city. The city has now developed up to the parkland. So the City of Fort Worth was certainly looking into future land use, and for that we can be grateful. The park has a large grassy area and picnic tables. So it's a good place for families and groups. Lake Worth is slightly hidden behind the trees. However, the big draw for Marion Sansom Park is the trails. There are several miles you can ride your mountain bike on, and although the signs say "no hikers", I'd think that only the yahoos would object to your presence. A short walk down the hill brings you to a hundred year old pavilion with a better view of Lake Worth. Hike or bike more, and you come to a short wide waterfall that is most likely manmade. Most of the land is covered with oak trees. As a former native Californian who remains relieved to have left that failing state, these trails remind me of many of the East Bay Regional Parks, specifically Carquinez Straits and Morgan Territory. You can find similar landscape in SoCal's San Gabriel Mountains. Like those forests, Marion Sansom preserves this land the way it was, a very short distance from civilization. Although it appears that this park gets a lot of love, this love has not resulted in a lot of vandalism. Truly unlike SoCal. People here just want to enjoy the land in its natural state, get exercise, and have an enjoyable experience. In short, Marion Sansom Park is a convenient place to get outside and have a little fun. read more

Very rocky, quite hard going down. But going up to my car was a STRUGGLE. Highly Recommend!! if you want to get a great hike in DFW. I went when the weather was not too hot so it was decent but in the summer, take care with plenty of water. Not too many bugs on this trail and its fairly clean and please keep it like that. read more

We are always looking for a good trail! We decided to stop by after reading a couple reviews and were pleasantly surprised. It's tucked away, around the lake in a part of town we don't drive to often. It was beautiful. Fall is always the best time to hike imo. Tons of different trails and scenery. We saw quite a bit of deer and not a lot of people which is always nice during a hike. There were some pretty steep trails so bring a good pair of hiking boots. The trails range from easy to intermediate. read more

Visited here on a Sunday, late morning. Decided to just wing it and walk a few of the trails for as long as I felt like walking. Ended up exploring 3 different trails (easy, moderate, difficult). They were all different and displayed various levels of difficulty. The environment is well kept and the trails are made for both walking and mountain bike riding. I loved the variety and peacefulness each trail offered. I was able to make my way down to the dam. I appreciated that some of the more difficult trails actually physically challenged me at times and had some good elevation and undulations for exercise. The dam itself was beautiful and worth the trip. I highly recommend this park if you're looking for variety, physical activity, relaxation, and exploration! Cheers! read more

I can't believe something as wonderful as this, is so, close to me! It was fun to explore the outdoor trails. The trails are pretty steep and there's a variety of hikers, bikers and joggers here. There's a nice gazebo with a picnic table and another along the trails. The trails are long, narrow, winding, hilly and intertwined. I'll be back soon to do some more exploring. read more

Today was so beautiful, I couldn't help but to spend time outdoors in God's creation. This was only the second time out here, but I was better prepared with more hiking appropriate shoes and bottled water. (There are a few more items I'll remember to bring next time as well. With each passing visit, I'll be able to tweek what exactly I need to bring.) This time, I was determined to make my way to the dam area. I believe the actual dam is blocked off with fencing, but I was able to get close enough to satisfy my curiousity. Anyway, there were several spots that required some special maneuvering to get across without making a splash. In spite of being very out-of-shape, I made it across successfully. The goal for today was to commune with the Sovereign King of the Universe who made such beautiful landscapes as this. Goal accomplished! On the way back to the vehicle, I discovered just how out of shape I am. Ha! Hopefully I can come out here many more times in the future. The only negative of the whole trip was the sad discovery of how people have no regard for nature by littering. read more

We came to check this place out as our regular trail is closed on Mondays. We started at inspiration point, it's a little confusing where the trailhead starts, the trails in this park are not well signposted at all! Your wondering if you are walking on what's suppose to actually be a trail or not as there is some sharp declines/inclines your not sure if you should be on. Inspiration Point seems to be a late night drinking location for people, there was soo much broken glass in the area, not good at all. We might come back to the park but definitely wouldn't start at Inspiration Point again. This parks needs some tlc. read more

Visited the Park in September and loved it! Incredibly family friendly and so many great hiking trails. And the trails have actual elevation. The hiking trails are intended for mountain biking as well. They switchback all over the hilly area. And so much of it was shaded! There are also some waterfalls down by the dam. If you're just here for the waterfalls-start at the trail by the pavilion that says waterfall and follow it down. We hiked to the stream and first to the "hidden falls." Then we walked up through the falls to the bigger falls where we jumped off into the water below. It was about 6ft deep. I highly recommend both hiking and going to the water. We can't wait to come back in November to see the leaves. Who knew such great hiking existed in Fort Worth. read more

Beautiful place to hike! We go 2-3 times a year! The scenery and waterfalls is a perfect place to unwind!
