Eagle Mountain Park has a decent size parking lot and I noticed they had a Kona ice truck out front. They have restrooms available, however they are porta potties that need maintenance. My friend and I enjoyed walking the overlook trail, including seeing the views of the lake. The weather was sunny and breezy and we got a good workout. I like that they don't allow dogs here to preserve their wildlife. We saw a couple of deer on our walk which was lovely. We look forward to our next visit to Eagle Mountain Park. read more

Eagle Mountain Park has great hiking trails along with some scenic views. One of the best features of this park is that it's pedestrian only and there are no bikes or dogs allowed. This makes for a great hiking experience. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge lover of dogs, but I love that this park is working to preserve the nature, plus some of the trails are steep and it would be heinous to make your dog venture up and down some of these more aggressive slopes. Nonetheless, I still saw two people bring their dogs out... some people simply have no regard for guidelines to protect the nature and not create an undue burden on your dog. Sigh. This is truly one of the best places in DFW if you are serious about hiking. There is a 500 feet elevation gain on the trail by the lake and this makes for great views and an easy way to get your heart rate up. There is ample parking and admission to the park is free. The only downside I would mention is the only restroom facilities are two port-o-potties and they were disgusting. One was out of toilet paper and there are no sinks to wash up. I don't know why people feel the need to make a bad situation worse by urinating all over the seat and trashing the facilities. Other than that, Eagle Mountain Park is a great choice for a semi-challenging hike site in DFW. The views are also a great reward for your efforts! read more

Someone told me to take a HIKE! So, I did. No, just kidding. No one, would ever tell me that. I'm sweet Melissa! Lol, jk. Actually, my friend invited me so, I was like sure. Who knew, there was a trail like this in close proximity. I've been in the area before but, had no idea about Eagle Mountain Park. First off, there's a few picnic tables under the shade and trash cans available, There are benches along the way, a few options to tread, friendly people passing by and a picturesque view. It was exciting to see some animals along the way too! I would definitely recommend this park. Go in a group, take your water and get there early to beat the crowd. read more

This park proves that Texas does have hiking trails that aren't just flat. This was a planned hike while visiting the metroplex area. Eagle Mountain Park is north of Fort Worth and made for a great outdoor activity. There are a few trails that loop along the lake, nothing too outrageous distance wise. Figure an hour or two of walking depending on what trails you take. Parking is free.. Hands down my new favorite hiking spot! I'm new to this area of Ft.Worth and was hoping to find a good trail/hike. I stumbled upon this gem! Similar to Cedar Ridge Preserve, this trail gives you a great workout due to the terrain. I really felt like I got a good hike. The off trail towards the right (by the lake overlook) is more narrow and shaded. In my opinion, it's for more experienced hikers since it engulfs you in the elements more. The trail to the left is more wide and an easy walk but still challenging enough. It's not as shaded though so it's best to hit early morning or late evening before the sun sets. Be aware, no dogs are allowed on the trail. I'm not sure if this is the best trail for kiddos but I may test my 6-year-old's endurance level on a nice breezy day. Overall, take the hike! read more

Eagle Mountain is a fabulous place to hike. So many of the trails Texas has to offer are SO FLAT, and while this certainly isn't Kilimanjaro, some sections of the trail do actually get those quadriceps working. The first time we went, we took the Main Trail to the Shoreline Loop trail. The second time we did the Northwest trail to Ridge Loop. Everyone agreed the Northwest/Ridge Loop trail was better: more exciting, beautiful views, and a better workout. If you're in pretty good shape, you could definitely complete all the trails in one day, but if you're heading to Eagle Mountain with kids, plan on coming back a second time to explore the other trails (those pesky three year olds will really hold you back!). Speaking of kids, it would be difficult if not impossible to take a stroller on the main trail, but a determined pusher could take a stroller on the Northwest/Ridge Loop. There are a couple of tricky areas but not many. If you were willing to fold up the stroller and carry it up a couple of rocky hills, it would be pretty smooth pushing the rest of the way. And YAHOO one of the best things about this trail is NO BIKERS. So you won't have that to contend with. Both the Shoreline Trail and Ridge Loop have beautiful views of the lake. All the trails are partially shaded by trees at some points and full sun at others. I imagine this hike would be BRUTAL in the summer. There are trail maps, but the actual signage on the trail could be better. There are many points where the trail forks off and there is no sign telling you which way to go. I think a lot of the forks end up leading back to the same trail, but I still found it to be a bit confusing. Not to worry, though, none of the trails are that long so it would be impossible to get too far off course. There are porta-potties at the entrance and also at the picnic spot on the Northwest Trail. There is a lot of parking but also a lot of hikers - be prepared to park creatively. This one is worth the drive! read more

I use the trails here for running and to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. Do you seek a runner's high, a great photo op spot, or just a place to take a nice walk? If so, then this is a great place to head for :-) Tip: While the trails here are reasonably well marked, but not in the places you'd conveniently expect, so study a map carefully before venturing out here on your own. read more

Just gorgeous! Who knew that such a lovely place was so close to our new home?!!! The trails are really nice and easy to navigate. As we walked them, there were some folks jogging and some fishing down by the lake. The natural beauty of the park is well maintained. There are maps along the trail and/or you can easily follow along a map on your phone from the parks website. The overlook was so pretty. Fellow trail walkers/hikers were friendly. I can already tell that we will return every non-rainy weekend. Arrive early because the parking lot is small and fills up quickly on clear days. read more

My fiancé & I went for an early Sunday morning hike at 6:30. To say the least this place is a must see & will be recommending it to other fellow hikers or anyone who wants to see the beauty it has to offer. From seeing wildlife such as deer, fish, peacocks, herons, and butterflies the list goes on I am sure. I had not bee here for a hike before and it was one I did at dawn. The trails were pretty well marked but I would suggest no shorts. Some of the branches are tall and I would expect getting scrapped up There have some interesting old equipment as well as replicas that add to the ambiance. The park is not overly long at a decent pace with a ruck for the water 2-3 hours with a bit of viewing and exploring should be about right. It's not a run trails park as the footing is a bit suspect with loose gravel In parts ; minor elevation changes. I am not sure about dogs as I didn't see any. read more

I was here to help with a trail race. I arrived early, it was still dark, and I stood by the fire. When I was finally give my assignment, it was lighter, and I got to appreciate the place. Great views of the lake. I was driven to the far end the park, a couple of miles away. I stood there, in the cold, telling runners which trail to proceed on. It's a very nice looking park. I plan to come back and explore more. I'm going to ding it for two things. Chemical toilets and (I think) no running water. Also, it is my understanding bikes and dogs are not allowed. It is also patrolled by gun carrying law officers. Bottom line: Can't wait to come back to explore it more! read more

This my first time here. There is not much parking, we parked on the street. Use the restroom before you start the trail bc there aren't any along the trails. The park offers well-paved walking trails, lots of picnic tables, and pretty views of the lake! No dogs allowed apparently, but we saw some. We packed lunch and eat it along the trail. Most of the trails were not very long. All of them would be easily walkable in one day. read more

It use to be a great safe place to hike. But the pathways have become eroded by nature that it's not safe for senior citizens to walk. After falling i never went back. The hills are steep and unsafe. read more

Best hiking in North Texas! We're always looking for places to hike with our family, this place is PERFECT. Some great ups and downs, but nothing too difficult. Lots of trails to choose from. The fall leaves in November are gorgeous and the trees in April are lush and green. It can get crowded on the weekends and holidays in the parking lot. read more

It's a nice place to get way from the city and get some sun, take in views of the lake, and some wildlife. My only two complaints is that I wish they had a basic bike trail, no bikes allowed. I also want to make it very clear that you really need to bring your own water if you're expecting to be hiking awhile. The only water fountain down in the trail was not working, in the middle of summer! Please be careful and take this into account. Don't get heat exhaustion on the trail, far away from emergency care. I'm glad I brought the water that I had, could of been a lot worse for me. read more

I visit this park frequently for morning or afternoon runs. Even when the parking lot is packed, once you're out on the trails you could go without seeing people for periods of time. Park is great for family outings but I do not suggest bringing a dog here. Parts of the trail overlook the lake which makes for a great view especially at certain locations where you can sit and view. read more

This is very nice trail with multiple interconnected routes to explore. On a beautiful day like this you will see many other trail hikers who are very friendly and helpful. The paths start off fall and as you venture forward get some what rocky. The paths are well carved and pretty easy to navigate. This is a great hike! Some very challenging hills. I always use my walking stick because the terrain is not exactly level. there is no pavement here so if that's what you're looking for go somewhere else. The view is amazing no matter which path you take. There is a map of the front that shows you where each path goes and how far it is. So many things to see along the way. read more

This is a really nice park with a number of quality trails for hiking. Views of the lake are good and there are a number park benches along the various routes. We've even seen deer on a couple of occasions. Unfortunately, they lose a star on cleanliness. Although pets are banned it's not uncommon to find people with their dog. I love pets as much as the next person, but it appears that very few people at Eagle Mountain Park bother to clean up after their animals. As a result, you have to keep one eye open for piles of fresh and dried out dog poop along the trail. read more

I love this park! The trails are varied in length and we rarely go without seeing wildlife. It is important to note there are no pets allowed to help preserve the wildlife. I would love to be able to take my dogs with me, but I love seeing the deer and armadillos perhaps a bit more. I am out here a few times a week at least and it just never gets old. TRWD does an amazing job maintaining this park and for the most part, everyone that uses the park is conscientious and keeps it clean. This is honestly the best set of trails nearby in terms of beauty and amenities. You must go! You will not regret it. read more

As a distance runner who often runs on pavement, I love to venture out and get off the beaten path from time to time! This trail is beautiful and very well maintained. There's plenty of parking as well as a little pavilion area. Venture out into the woods and you will see it's a somewhat technical trail to navigate with a couple of inclines that provide a nice challenge. Bring friends and enjoy! It's a little over 5 miles around I believe so do a loop or two or a quick out and back to make it shorter! The trails are very clearly marked as well so you won't get lost. Perfect way to see the sunrise too coming off of the lake. It was a bit of a drive for me but just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city! I am afraid to write a review of this park because others will see how wonderful it is and it will become crowded. During a nice day the parking lot is full. Most of the people that come out here are vary respectful to others on the trails. Most of the people that come out here are also respectful of the environment and pack out their own trash. There are plenty of trash receptacles by the parking area, which has plenty of picnic tables for gatherings. And the smaller trail has one by its picnic table. There are places that photographers bring their clients and on several occasions I have passed groups of people with cameras that are learning the art of a really good picture. I have taken my share of cool moments with my cell camera and captured many more moments in my mind. I love the outdoors and if you do too, this is a good place that is not to far out of the city. If you are coming to take a family photo, I have no problem with your four legged friends. But the trails are posted no pets. Most people are respectful with that also. read more
