We got a family meal, the ribs and chicken. We are wondering if the ribs are cooked in a pit. Just the amount of fat grease in the container when the ribs cool down. The ribs were put on a grill for my order to get marks and or warmed. The taste is alright at best, but the various sauces are a plus and sort of needed. The smoked chicken has some type of taste and a similar seasoning as the roasted chicken. We will probably chop the breast for salads. The burnt ends had almost as much fat than meat. Our son tried a couple of pieces and used a knife to cut away the generous fat. But we still ate it. The broasted chicken was pretty good though. Crispy, seasoned, moist, and flavored. I told them it was my first time coming and they let me order two different sauces to try with each meal, unfortunately even though how nice I thought that was I actually did not receive the extra sauce just one sauce per meal so not sure if it was because of the lack of liking the bbq sauce that did get but I had the garlic aioli which was decent and the regular lazybones bbq mild it taste like Taco Bell's mild though. As someone who loves good smoked barbecue, my expectations are high when trying establishments. My family was looking to have food catered for an event we were having and wanted to try a few places. We first tried their Texas sampler platter which gives you a sample of all of their smoked meats and 3 pints of their sides of your choice. It's a ton of food and their portions are huge. The sides we chose were the Mac and cheese, potato salad and bbq beans. The beans were awesome, highly recommend. After that experience, we decided to have them cater our event by selecting off of their catering menu. The process for ordering and picking up could not have been more efficient. We placed our order a week ahead of the date and picked up at 11AM the day of the grad party. The person checking the order had a checklist to ensure the accuracy of the order. For our event, we went with ribs, brisket and chicken tenders. For the sides, we went with beans, potato salad and a garden salad. Everyone who attended our grad party kept asking where we got the food. Everything turned out great! Let me start by saying I have developed an onion allergy - I cannot have onions of any kind or onion powder. I get VERY sick from both of these. The staff at this place took SO much time with me to figure out what I could & could not have - I was AMAZED! A young lady helped on the phone before I arrived, who found out for me that they do not have onion powder in the store and do not use it in the rub - which is why we decided it was safe & headed in to place an order. The manager, I believe, took over when we got there & really dove in to help. She double checked EVERYTHING for me! She went through all of the rubs, the base for the sauces, double checked the sides... it was fantastic! We placed our order with another super nice employee and waited. It's small place with a few bar stools at a small counter, so it's more carry-out than anything, but it's very clean. When our order was ready, the manager had just noticed we ordered Mac & cheese and said that I couldn't have it because she found it had a spice in it that was a derivative of onion. Unfortunately the original sammie I had ordered had Mac & cheese on it too. So, they let me choose another sammie instead (and they gave us the first sammie home for my hubby to eat for lunch today)! She also made sure the kitchen knew to use clean bowls, etc when making my food because of my allergy. Plus, since we checked in with Yelp, we got free yummy rip tips with a yelp coupon! I very much appreciate the extra steps they took to make sure I didn't get sick and that they made it right instead of saying "oh well," like many places would have! I will be back here for sure since I have found a yummy place that has delicious smoked meats that I can actually have (except the chicken - the seasoning blend for that has onion powder... lol). I was looking forward to some great brisket fat and bark and some great ribs. This was ok, but nothing to write home about. The highlight was the friendliness of the staff. We ordered a full slab and half a pound of brisket, golden mustard, original, and screaming inferno BBQ sauces, a pint each of mustard greens and potato salad. Out of the food, the potato salad was the star, but with what the meat cost, I was hoping to be "wowed." That did not happen. The sauces were good but not spectacular. The meat was perhaps a bit too lean, denying it if flavor. Note the spicy sauce was almost too hot, and I enjoy some heat; it overwhelmed the palate. Ohhh my god, the best BBQ I've ever had. My husband and I bought the ridiculous family-sized Texas sampler that came chock-full of meat, sides and cornbread. We opted to eat in the waiting area (not really a dining room) so we staked out a couple chairs and waited patiently for our food. The waiting area was a bit cold and could definitely use more tables and chairs. Small gripe, since it seems they do mostly carry-out business. I can't even name all the meats that came with our meal. But definitely some ribs, pulled pork, burnt ends, pork belly and chicken. See my photo for the spread. We chose coleslaw and mac and cheese as our sides. Everything was tender, smokey and delicious! I loved every meat except the chicken (chicken is boring), the mac and cheese was amazing and the cornbread was sinfully sweet. I can't wait until I visit Lazybones again. Great barbecue. My wife and I have eaten food from here twice. Satisfied both times. The brisket, the pulled pork and burnt ends were great. I love the apple cider barbecue sauce. The banana pudding is unreal how good it is. Now I would like to take a moment to talk about the Brisket sandwich. I notice the sign out front earlier in the week saying the food truck would be out on Thanksgiving 10am-1pm. So I figured that sure looked like a good plan get some bbq and watch football. We got a pound of Detroit style rib tips and cornbread stuffing and gravy. The tips were really good nice and tender and smoked perfectly , the stuffing was moist not even close to being dry the gravy was good not salty at all and very creamy. We ordered Texas Sampler. Briskets were juicy and pulled pork was tender. Unfortunately rib tips and spare ribs were both a bit tough and not as flavorful. Maybe because my favorite BBQ is beef briskets, but other family members also agreed. Honey buttered corn bread was good. Vinegar garlic slaw was okay, but I wish they'd hand cut the cabbage instead of using food processor slicer. A bit too thin and lacked the crunch factor I like. Pit smoked beans was very good. Oh goodness, this place has GREAT BBQ. I live about 20 minutes away via the highway, in Troy, and hadn't heard of it, but we had a UYE (Unofficial Yelp Event) here tonight and were treated very nice - very nice indeed! $10 got you a smorgasbord of all the meats that Lazybones serves - Detroit-style ribs, brisket, cajun sausage, burnt ends, and more. They set it up for us on their BRAND SPANKING NEW patio (just finished 4 days ago) and we brought our own desserts, tables, and chairs. I think my favorite was the pulled pork and the burnt ends, which they said they sell out of by 5-6pm every day - they tasted like steak, although some had a bit more fat to them. I'm a big ribs fan but surprisingly, the ribs were not my favorite meat here, although still good. I don't like mac 'n cheese but I tried it anyway, they mix in pulled pork and bacon, and they also gave us some cornbread which was great. I will DEFINITELY be back to Lazybones sometime soon! It looks like they mostly do a carryout business (they have ONE booth in the building and no other seating, though now they'll have the patio), so I'll stop by after work one day. I'm going to guess that you can't buy 'em tomorrow, so I shot over there when Lauren C. put the picture on Yelp today with the following caption: "Maple bacon paczki. A glazed paczki (no filling) dipped in maple frosting and then covered in a smoked bacon and brown sugar." My last review of this place was not good and it was based on service alone not the food so I did decide to give it another shot, and stop in today and get quite a bit of food. In a nutshell, everything is amazing! Service was much better, The manager seem to be in a much more pleasant and hospitable mood, and my staff was very accommodating and friendly. The food looks great not burnt not dried out fresh and hot and the interior was clean and sanitized. Although unfortunately at the present moment we can't go in and eat inside, The food maintain freshness all the way home. I guess I should've save my coupon they said they would honor next time I came in for buy one get one rib tips!! (I was pretty angry and threw it out vowing to never return.)
