I have always been treated with care and respect in the many years I have been coming here. About a month ago I stopped in with a broken zipper on a very expensive ski jacket with built in avy beacon I did not want to give up. Mari was gone for a week so I went to check other places. Got quoted $80.00 to well over $100.00 to sew in a new zipper. I waited for Mari to return and SO glad I did. She told me she keeps a parts jar and to come back in about 15 minutes for a quote. When I returned she had FIXED the original zipper (no one else gave me this option) and charged me 17 dollars. And so I ask" Why would I ever go anywhere else?" Few things about this place that you should know: Pricing: Very high here which owner admits is because she is located inside the mall. If you are looking for affordable pricing, you'll probably want to move on. Quality: Mediocre at best. I've gotten clothes back where I raise my eyebrow about a couple things here and there I would describe as careless work, especially due to how high the prices are. Customer Service: Poor. I've been coming here for all my alterations for pants and uniform pieces in the last 9 months since I moved to the area. The first time, I didn't like the owner's energy. She's one of those people who doesn't care if you live or die. IYKYK. I want to leave it at that because that should suffice. But I will elaborate a bit. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt because everybody has a bad day. However, the next time I came, I got the same vibe. I do always have to ask her to make it longer because she keeps going shorter than how I like it. This tends to happen wherever I go. I like my pants to almost skim the ground. I feel like she would get irritated that I wouldn't simply accept her first or second stab at it. Maybe she has very little patience and that's what would spill out into her attitude? But I can assure you that my asks were not unreasonable and I am always kind in how I speak to people. This type of I-couldn't-care-less-about-you vibe is what I had observed about her on my six or so visits. My last visit, I brought her another pair of pants and asked if she would do me a favor and press them out for me because they were so wrinkled. I felt comfortable asking her this as I have been a repeat customer and she told me it would cost me five dollars. I felt annoyed by this because I am already over spending here so I asked her if she would do it as a service to me since I had been a repeat customer. She literally scoffed at me because again, she does not care if I live or die. I don't know what it is with people who have this kind of attitude and want to have a business in customer service. I explained that I would love to keep coming back and I feel like the pricing is so high already and if she could do me this favor, I'd be so grateful. She explained she didn't want to. It's not that she couldn't- she just didn't want to. I said "No, thanks. I will find another place." As I was walking out, she asked for her little pins back. I asked if I could just keep the one in the very back to save me time and she said, "yes, fine!" as she snatched the pants out of my hands and very purposefully took out the exact pin that I had hoped she'd let me keep in there while leaving a totally useless one. It was so childish and off-putting. You wouldn't expect this from the owner. I was coming here for convenience, but I will gladly drive an extra mile to deal with a kinder human. As far as the one star: Had it been a couple times of this kind of energy from her, I simply would not have left any review at all. However, the many interactions I've had coupled with the last really offputting one, to me, that deserved a negative review. read more

I dropped off three toddler dresses that needed an invisible hem done as all three dresses' hems had unraveled. Service was $15 a dress plus tax. The lady there was very sweet. She noted down the measurements and said it would be available in a weeks time. A week later, when I arrived the tailor told me that due to the snow she wasn't able to get down to the store for three days. She offered to drop it off for me at my home since we lived close to each other. Sure enough that evening, she dropped it off for me. WOW ! I know she's not able to do this for everyone but what a wonderful gesture. As a busy mom always with a long list of errands, this was extremely helpful and kind. The dresses were done perfectly. Amazing. Could not have gone smoother. The woman sowed the strap back on my favorite onesie in no time, and it is stronger than ever for $5. Courteous, fast same-day service, and a deal on top of it. They prefer cash ***edit: when I got home and looked at the garment I kinda laughed. The strap is sewed onto the outside rather than woven into the fabric. It stands out and kinda looks like a rookie did it. But I know nothing about sewing so I'm gonna assume this is the best they could do given the fabric and stuff. Encouraged by the positive reviews we took several items to be altered here over the past three years. It seems that Mari is more comfortable with men's clothing as the results have been consistently excellent. Alterations for my wife's clothing have been hit or miss. It appears that Mari's customer service has experienced a bit of a decline recently. An item for my wife needed a very easy fix. Mari indicated she would take care of it yet outsourced it to someone who made a big mistake and ignored the instructions. Mari apparently insisted that my wife pay to have the mistake fixed and suggested that my wife go elsewhere if she wasn't happy. When my wife pointed out how easy it was to correct the mistake, Mari did in four minutes what my wife waited a whole week for. Fortunately, Mari realized it was foolish to charge for this after all yet it leaves a bitter taste. Plenty of parking in the mall's parking lot provides easy access. read more

I have a skirt I really love but it's becoming too tight after many years. I went to Mari's and asked her to expand it a little bit. I was told to pick it up after one week. However it was not ready by then. She promised to finish it soon and deliver to my home, which is a few miles away. I wasn't sure if this is true because delivery will sure add up the cost. 3 days later, I did received my skirt at home, and was amazed at what she did. It's seamless. I took my wedding dress here for alterations. I also had a bridesmaid that lived out of town and didn't feel comfortable handling the alteration process herself, so I brought in her measurements. I was working with the owner who is awesome and told me she could do the alterations on the bridesmaid dress the day before the wedding, GREAT!!! I did my first fitting and came in for the second one where we made sure the trim on the bottom went okay. It did. I came in to pick up the dress, and the assistant gave it to me. I expressed I wanted to try it on, and when I did, I discovered the shoulders weren't done. I was asked to wait an hour to pick them up again. OK--I can manage that. I asked if we were still good on my bridesmaid dress for the day before the wedding--yep. I referred another one of my bridesmaids there and she had the same experience--shoulders not done when picking up. She couldn't wait to pick it up, so I ended up picking it up a few days later and confirmed my other bridesmaid dress again. She had asked for the scraps for a project of mine, and the assistant didn't know what I was talking about and told me we had to ask for that in advance. The owner walked in, remembered the dress, and provided the scraps. SO, I brought in the dress and my bridesmaid the day before the wedding. The assistant starts talking to my shy bridesmaid about how we gave her no notice that we needed by tomorrow. It was frankly, rude. Especially in light of the fact that it was the owner's idea to do it like that and this was the third dress I was bring in to be altered. I would only deal with the owner. read more

I've taken a lot of items to Mari for altering over the past 7 or 8 years. Suits, a sheepskin coat, blazers, dresses- she even made couch cushions for me. She's located in Factoria Mall which would make this convenient for many, I'm sure. Her work is really great. I loved everything. She also explains things very well. She has a can do attitude. You know how some alterationists tend to find excuses why they can't do some things? Mari's the opposite. She'll find a way and if she can't or thinks what you're asking isn't feasible, she'll explain it to you. The only thing is that since her shop's very popular, they get very busy and this can sometimes cause delays. I brought in a pair of Armani suit slacks. I had fallen and had created an L-shaped rip in them at the shin. A tailor in downtown Kirkland had turned me away, saying it was unfixable. The owner would not allow the seamstress who was working to stop long enough to measure my chest for a suitcoat that I was planning to have altered here, telling me to return in 30 minutes. Had to have my suit pants let out because I had put on a "little" weight. The alteration was completed within a week and came out just fine. Would highly recommend. Not the biggest location, but, then again, you don't need too much space for a sewing machine, etc. They do provide a modest "dressing room," which consists of a sliding curtain. I was leaving out of town on holiday and missed picking up a pair of pants before we left. I spoke with Mari on the phone and since she would be in working on Monday (when they are typically closed) she said I could pick them up. Unfortunately, we did not connect on the timing.
