Overcharged in dress to be altered. When job was not done ptoperly, was charged again to redo. Definitely don't recommend!!!!

I had gone to Nordstrom to alter my wedding dress and picked it up completely destroyed . It was so destroyed that I couldn't even have it fixed. I expedited a dress I got online and it was supposed to be to my custom measurements and wouldn't even stay up. I looked on yelp for places near my new house and found this one 5 blocks away from my house. Went in and the lady was a delight . Knew exactly what to do and was confident and told me she could make it work. I loved the dress but was terrified to have another thing ruined that I loved, yet knew I didn't have an option. Picked it up for half the price of Nordstrom's and probably the best alterations I had ever seen. Fits perfect and now I "the one" for my wedding to my high school sweetheart! On the way out my son and daughter said "we don't want to go we like it here". I could not be more happy! Thanks Sue ! read more

Be careful of Sue, she does not stand behind her promises behind her work and has no concerns about keeping money of jobs that were not completed. Oh by the way, she also now sells medical insurance and this could be a dangerous proposition for customers who are not aware of Sues lack on knowledge about these products. read more

I have been going to Sue's Tailors the better part of the last 17 years since I moved here. She is consistently all of these things: efficient with the timing of alterations, super happy to help the customer, personable, affordable, reliable, and able to turn something around quickly if needed. I ask for an alteration and got basically the same result... it was let out slightly but the sewing to repair it was sloppy. The thread was a really offish color and I was told the whole zipper needed to be replace but it seemed like the same exact zipper, and that explanation was just to drive up the cost... the dry cleaners down the street definitely do a better job. read more

I've gone to Sue's time and time again to get great alterations done on my semi-formal and formal trousers. These I've used many times at formal dances and choral performances. The hems stay intact and do not fray. I recommend this place for their great turn around time and personable service. read more

I needed a bridesmaid dress altered and this lady did a wonderful job. The dress was a bit of a more challenging cut because it was a hi-lo dress with multiple ripples, but it turned out exactly how I wanted it to look. She initially said it would be ready in a week, but when I asked if she could finish it by day 6, she said she could. When I called on day 5 for a status update, she said it was already done! The facility is nothing fancy but it has everything you need: mirrors, fitting rooms, and a little stage to step on. The price was reasonable as well. She doesn't have a credit card machine, so it's cash or check only. Also, my google maps directed me to Baskin Robbins but it's actually right behind the Island Book Store. read more

Three Strikes Rule. First time, I asked them to shorten the pants on a pair of sweats that had a small vertical zipper at the ankles. Picked them up, and they had been hemmed to the right length...but the zipper was simply folded over and sewn into the hem - completely non-functional. Wow, really? Second - take some nylon webbing and put a loop in one end. Really simple stuff. First two promised pickup times the work was not done. Finally finished, and the workmanship was just juvenile. I had them redo them and they were barely passable. I can't believe I actually tried them a third time - similar result. No more. It's AMAZING to me that they could possibly still be in business. Awful. I've given this place a couple of tries, and I'm always unhappy with results... honestly, the dry cleaner on the same street does a better job with simple jobs like hemming. read more

I've gone to Sue's several times to get my jeans hemmed. I've never had a problem. I've also gotten my bridemaids' dresses hemmed there AND my second wedding dress. Everything I've ever gotten done there has always turned out fine. No complaints whatsoever. read more

She has done major repairs and modifications on a wide variety of garments for me. She is also courteous, friendly, and fairly priced. I have no reason to go elsewhere ever. read more

I have hemmed probably more than 1000 pairs of slacks and jeans and found that I simply do not want to do this task anymore and besides it is difficult to measure for myself since I am now single. I took my jeans to have them hemmed and to sew the pockets closed and the workmanship was perfect. I was thrilled to have them hemmed and ready to wear and I didn't have to do it! The price was reasonable and the workmanship was perfect. Thank you! I will be back. Sue is amazing! I had one if those bridesmaids dresses that just did not look right even though it was already custom made. The dress was overly large at the top and waist so a ton of alterations were needed within 5 days! Sue did a fantastic job in making the dress look like it was supposed to be. Fitted and according to my measurements and way before the 5 days! I highly recommend her, especially when you have a dress that has gone wrong!! She can really fix anything! read more

I've been to Sue's once and will not go again. She hemmed my son's pants and he ended up with two different pants legs, neither of which fit. And of course he was wearing the same shoes he was going to wear with the pants so there was no excuse. From that experience, I now do the simple sewing (like hemming) myself and take my complex and valuable items elsewhere. read more

This lady pinned up my floor-length formal gown and also pinned the tulle shoulder straps to take it up a little, since I am petite. The shoulder pins both came loose as I removed the dress, so I offered to put it back on. She said that it was not necessary, she knew what she needed to do. I trusted her, since she is the expert. When I picked up the dress, I tried it on and realized that she had shortened the straps too much, causing the bodice to pull so that its foam cups were being flattened against my breasts, and to peak at a higher point on my chest than I do, restricting my arm motion as well. Because the bodice is beaded (shiny), it is very easy to see this. Her workmanship was also very poor, having lost the graceful pleats at the shoulder, and moving the shoulder seams forward so that they draw they eye, and one was very uneven, to make it worse. I waited for her to notice and insist on making it right. She said nothing and acted as though it looked perfect. I decided I wanted no more of her "help", so I paid and just took my dress, thinking that I would find someone else to make repairs. I later realized that her error also caused the dress to be too short, revealing my shoes! Today I took it to another seamstress who told me the dress is not fixable, since Sue's had cut away the fabric at the shoulder. I want to the fabric store to see if I could figure out a way to come up with a plan. A very helpful employee there gave me the name of another seamstress, and I am waiting for a call back from her. But let me tell you, the reaction of these other experts to Sue's craftsmanship was worth noting. I could have done a much better job myself, and I hate to sew. Do not trust this place, seriously! read more

We needed boy scout pants shortened, but not too short since 11-year-old boys tend to grow. I brought my son and the pants to her, and the seamstress pinned the pants long as we requested. Alas, when we picked them up, they were sewn much shorter than the pins -- barely long enough for him and certainly not long enough to last even a few months. The first time I went there was in HIgh School, because of a friend's recommendation. I went there and had them tailor a pair of juicy couture bottom. I went home to try it on, only to find them uneven. But, I just kept it and wore it since they were basically sweatpants. I thought I would give her a second chance and went back to alter my homecoming dress my Senior year. When I got it back, I noticed it was very poorly hemmed. I was so disappointed, I had to go to a different place to redo it. This week, I just needed to go somewhere to get measurements so I can give it to my cousin in China so she can give it to her tailor to make my braids maid dress. So, I thought I would just come to sue's tailor to get measured up. As soon as I walked in and told her I needed certain measurements, she said to me that the store was out of power. What?! It's 75 degrees weather outside and they are the only place out of power? Does that even make sense? Then I nicely asked her again if it's possible to take measurements. It's not like I was asking her sew anything up! And she replies with: "I don't have good eyes." WTF! Really? What kind of response is that? If you don't have good eyes then why are u even in business tailoring other people's stuff!! Bottom line is, I'm never going back there. They have horrible skills and horrible customer service. She even admitted herself that her eyes aren't good, which says it all. She either needs to get her eyes checked out or something. read more
