    Ceviche Cameron

We were in town and I was craving a ceviche, and I'm so glad we found this place! It felt like a small authentic local restaurant but we were surprised to learn after the fact that it's listed on many guides for best Mexican food. Lucky us! We ordered two of their ceviches - one ceviche pescado and one ceviche camaron. Both were generous portions of ceviche and came with tortilla chips. Super delicious! Fresh ingredients and delicious citrus flavor. I especially loved the ceviche camaron. Reasonably priced too for the portion you get. They played fun Spanish music in here, I really loved the vibe. Casual but fun vibes. Many workers here only speak Spanish but they were able to understand our English just fine. Can't wait to come back and try more!

This has got to be my favorite Mariscos restaurant so far!!!!!! Everything was just a perfection with no complaints at all. I ordered the mojarra frita with fries and rice and salad (normally it's beans instead of the rice but they can always swap it for you). OMG the fish was so juicy and crispy at the same time and was so full of meat like I never had it before. It was just cooked to perfection. The service did not disappoint at all and they are literally willing to get you anything with a smile on their faces. The place itself is a little small. Can't imagine it on a busy weekend night where lots of people would dine in!!!!!!!! People would be on top of each other. But it just feels like one of the places you go in a small town in Mexico itself. I loved the place and even tho it's a bit drive from where I live. I'd definitely be visiting here over and over and over.

Food was great! I got the shrimp and oyster cocktail. Oysters didn't seem the freshest but the shrimp was really good. My girlfriend got the shrimp and mango ceviche and it was also very good! Service was friendly and very nice. The dining room is small but still has enough room for small parties. I want to come back and try more things off their menu. I was looking at everything coming out of the kitchen and it all looked delicious!

Huachinango a la Veracruzana: Red Snapper Vera Cruz style

Mariscos Corona is in a tiny stripmall with an equally tiny parking lot. Frequented by Latino families and Gringos doing mostly take out. Minimally decorated, but pictures of Revolucionarios, Francisco Pancho Villa (aka José Doroteo Arango Arámbula) and Emiliano Zapata as well as Cuautémoc Tlatoani, last Aztec Emperor. His courage in resisting the Spanish invasion, both during the conquest and after his capture, has made him a powerful symbol of Mexican national pride. 1) Mariscos Corona has a rare item not found in most Mexican menus: Huachinango a la Veracruzana which I had the pleasure to enjoy at the Restaurante in the Hotel Prendes in the port city of Vera Cruz on the Gulf of México. Whole red snapper, head, tail and all is lightly covered in a wheat based batter, then fried to a crisp so that even most of the bones are eaten like potato chips except head & spine. The white meat is moist, dense, but flakey with a touch of sweet, sea minerality. The frying technique was very competent with use of fresh oil so as not to leave stale flavours from other fried foods from before. The classic, associated Salsa was a light, fresh tomato sauce kissed with garlic, onions, sliced brined Spanish olives and sometimes capers. The Mariscos Corona version is battered & fried and then slathered with what seems to be heavy, thick, gooey tomato paste sautéed with slices of onions, red & green bellpeppers. Garnished with a lime to add a gastrique at one's discretion. However, Mariscos Corona did not follow the classic Salsa a la Veracruzana recipe. 1a) Very refreshing, chopped, green leaf lettuce topped with chopped tomatoes dressed with 1,000 Island dressing possibly due to concession to American influence. 1b) Dry, friable, short grain rice with bit of frozen veggie medley added for color. 1c) Frijoles de Pinto are creamy, thick with a bit of texture from other beans that are closer to smashed. Scattering of soft Queso Fresco for more richness. 1d) Three standard Tortillas de Maís 2) Excellent Salsa Fresca: Chopped fresh tomato, onion, cilantro, orégano Mexicano, pleasant acidity, earthy, garlicky with a satisfying scent of fermentation. Totopos/fried corn Tortilla chips are denser, plodding in texture. 3) Tried out the Culichi bottled Seafood Salsas from Sinaloa. a) Culichi Hot Seafood Salsa Habanero: like Worcester sauce with sweetness from a bit of brown sugar b) Culichi Negra: minty Worcestershire c) Culichi Hot Seafood salsa Chitilpin: Fermented fruit flavour with again a minty scent. In conclusion, I really couldn't taste a huge difference although a tangy, burnt sugar caramel flavour seemed prevalent. 4) Rather weak tasting Horchata made from rice, vanilla, sugar slaked my thirst on a very hot end of August late afternoon. Servers are efficient, and the younger lady was charmingly accommodating. Not exactly Huachinango a la Veracruzana, but not bad for a restaurant more leaning toward Jalisco. 4- stars

    Sea bass and shrimp
    Grace O.

Cute little strip mall seafood spot. I read about the aguachiles and wanted to try it. A beautiful presentation and ample portion. It was tasty but not as spicy as I'm accustomed to. I'm not sure that's a bad thing. The light spice made it possible for me to enjoy the other flavors more and without drinking constant water to cool my mouth. I liked it. I also had the sea bass and garlic shrimp with a salad. The sea bass (not sure it was sea bass the way it was presented but whatever) was a little overcooked and too oily. The garlic flavoring was overcooked. I liked the shrimp but prefer no shells. The salad was ok. Overall, the meal was good. I'll return for a second try. The place was clean, staff was super friendly and it was a calm atmosphere.

I have always been indifferent about seafood but this place has changed my mind entirely. Seafood can be prepared in a way that excites and satisfies every taste bud. I had the mango ceviche which provided a sweet and savory taste. I also had their oysters with agua chiles which gave me a sour and salty kick - it did not taste overpowering. The ambiance is pretty and warm. The service is excellent. A lot of the staff are friendly and it's a place I'd recommend to anyone!

    Ceviche over priced

Over priced ! $18 dollars for this ? This place use to be good now it's just popular and over priced wow very upsetting !!

Tostada mixta con pulpo y pescado
    Josh M.

Lovely small business in Van Nuys featuring ceviche, aguachiles, and a whole lot more. I got the tostada mixta with octopus and fish. The seafood smelled and tasted fresh, was a perfect temperature, and had a nice balance of acidity and salinity on its own. The habanero salsa rounded out the flavor for me. Their friendly staff warmly greet patrons including families and workers on their lunch break. Plenty of space in their own parking lot or on the street. Very affordable price for decent quality raw seafood.

The food was so good! The service is amazing everyone is so friendly and check on you constantly 10 out of 10 place we had a great experience with Rosa and Miriam we will definitely be back soon

IG/TT @eatwkris Mexican seafood in definitely slept on and Mariscos corona on victory blvd in van nuys is my favorite spot that's got you covered on all types of ceviche and a unique oyster aguachile that is so refreshing and tasty. The star dish is this giant molcajete. It comes with a whole fried red snapper, octopus, bacon wrapped shrimp, and tons of head on shrimp. It's so good on its own or wrapped in a warm flour tortilla.

The space is really quite large. I was happy to see there was a seafood counter with a display case of smoked fish, a couple of dips, aged beef. The guys were super friendly behind the counter. I spotted the cafe area where they serve coffees and teas - I made a note that I had to come back to try that. Back to the deli counter - they recommended I try the smoked sea bass since they don't get it in often so I took some of that and a smoked salmon collar. The hand roll bar was empty since it was late in the afternoon but too early for dinner. I promised the sushi chef there that I would return. So I went back today with a couple of friends. We sat at that hand roll bar and had the best hand rolls I've ever had. We ordered a la carte and I absolutely loved those creations - full of flavor, texture - unique and tantalizing! I'm curious to go back and try some of the other things on there like the burger? the shabu shabu? I can't wait to see how they serve those items. Their little market area is fascinating as well - with small bottles of soy sauce aged in bourbon barrels and other delicious sounding ingredients. I did end up taking home a shaker bottle of their house made furikake. Can't wait to try that! I'm so happy this is in the neighborhood. It's a great spot to introduce friends to and serves as inspiration for anyone who loves to cook.

Service was satisfactory. Fish was very fresh and tasty. I would come again to try the restaurant and their other fish products I missed. So this place is a choose your own adventure (handrolls, fish shop, cafe), built out in this tetris sort of layout. Upon entry you have some high chair seating and the cafe straight to the back. Along the other side is some window seating followed with the fish shop on against the last wall. Overall its pretty small so seating is limited. So much so I was indirectly informed to move from the window seating after sitting there with my bev and bread because that was for the handroll section. So I promptly went outside. Ordered: Iced Chai Latte: 5/5 - Excellent Chai. Best I've had in a minute Banana Bread: 5/5 - Recommended to me by the server. Sigh, reminded me of those good ol covid days. Very good banana bread. BBQ Fish: 4/5 So fun fact - on sundays whatever you buy from the fish shop they'll bbq it for you, pretty cool right? While the prices are a little steep, most of it is by weight so my selected fish actually was only $6. When we do the bbq option you get a little slaw to go with it. I asked the guy to give me a relatively affordable but good option and now I don't remember what it was I know. But it WAS good. It was light, a little citrusy, and surprisingly meaty? If I closed my eyes and did a blind test you could've had me fooled for red meat. If you don't like bones and all I would suggest something else. Now I have to say as soon as I ordered that one of the girls who worked there was on her off day and ordered a salmon burger, and apparently that's off the menu and isn't every week! I felt bamboozled, the fish guy did me wrong haha. With that said, if you can be here for that it seems well worth it, the grill man was mostly cooking patties and I asked one party how was it and they said it was delicious, really packed too, that burger was thick! Now there is some outdoor seating (3) but between the handrolls in the back and the bbq in the front it could be hard to find a place to sit. I got there around 12 Sunday and a few things I wanted were already sold out so I'd say make it earlier or order ahead if you can. All in all this place has been on my list for a few years now and I'm glad I finally went. I enjoyed what I experienced so far but I'm willing to go back to get the full nine yards.

We decided to come back with friends but on a Wednesday night at 6:30 instead. Sat at a table in the area where the music was but it was very loud and tightly packed with tables and guests. I could barely hear my friends due to the loud conversations, loud laughter, and just the acoustic affects in the restaurant were bad from that. We ordered steak, sides, and thought baked potatoes but got mashed instead. After we ate dinner we asked the manager if we could seat outside for dessert instead due to the loud noises around us. He brought us there but we had to wait at the bar outside till we were seated took an additional 15-20 minutes. After seated it was better than inside with a nice decor too instead. Dessert was ok service good. For such a high-ended restaurant and pricy food it's only avarage, inside decor pretty but very and tightly packed with guests and loud especially for a week day night kind of unusual, I was disappointed think it's a bit overrated sorry to say. I think Flemings, Ruth Chris, or Morton's are better food wise for the same price and dining experience and not as loud too. Think what could make it better is to thin out the crowded packed affect in the main inside dining area would help a lot too, or, if we ever go back sit outside instead I recommend. The service and staff there were very nice, friendly, and attentive and worked hard during service though. So overall raiting is a 3. Tuesday music night inside was good though think because the band is set up where tables of guests would be so less talking and guests listening to the music instead. Hope they make some changes to there inside seating there for improvements will and could help overall.

From the moment we pulled up to valet to checking in for our reservation, everything felt smooth and elevated. We got seated right away and our server, Roger (I think that was his name), immediately set the tone for the evening. He gave us a great rundown of the menu and the concept of the restaurant, which made the experience feel more personal and immersive. We started with the Hokkaido milk buns and wow... that brown butter was dangerously addicting. Soft and almost mousse-like with the perfect balance of sweetness and salt. I could honestly eat that by itself. The buns themselves were delicious too, though I do wish they served them piping hot like the bread at Texas Roadhouse or Lucille's Smokehouse. The yellowtail crudo was incredible. Super fresh, melt-in-your-mouth texture, and the chips added a nice crunch while the fruit brought a bright, robust flavor that paired beautifully with the fish. Easily one of my favorite dishes of the night. A friend of my friend happened to be working there that evening and surprised us with the kale sprouts. Funny enough, we had literally just been debating whether to order it. It turned out to be such a great dish -- smoky, crunchy, and packed with flavor. The raisins added a really nice touch of sweetness. We ended up saving some of it to eat alongside our entrees and it paired perfectly. My friend ordered the dry-aged branzino and it was excellent. Crispy skin on the outside while the fish stayed soft, juicy, sweet, and savory inside. The Oaxacan mole felt like such a bold choice but somehow worked beautifully with the dish. And that burnt sweet potato? So soft and flavorful it practically melted in your mouth. I went with the dry-aged duck breast and loved every part of it. It came with pommes aligot layered with duck au jus and fermented black bean underneath, which sounded unexpected but tasted amazing together. Rich, savory, unique, and comforting all at once. The potato pave was another standout -- crispy on the outside, tender and rich on the inside. Absolutely delicious. Everything about the night was memorable: the atmosphere, the music, the food, and the service. Verse is definitely one of those places that stands out from the usual dining scene. We didn't have time to stay for dessert since we had another engagement afterward, but honestly that just gave us another reason to come back.

We started with the kale sprouts and buns appetizer, then my wife ordered the mushroom risotto from their vegetarian menu, which was a really nice surprise since we hadn't seen it online and it gave her more options, and I had the NY steak. We also shared the corn elote on the side. Everything -- and I truly mean everything -- was delicious and incredibly satisfying. One thing I really appreciated was that dinner felt like an experience rather than a rushed meal. The food came out a little slower than at most restaurants, but honestly, that made the night even better. It gave us time to enjoy the music, relax, talk, and savor each course as it came out. Sometimes with upscale restaurants, you worry you'll pay a lot and still leave hungry. That was definitely not the case here. Verse exceeded our expectations, and we'll absolutely be back! Next time I wanna try that tomahawk steak!

Everyone around us was having a great time. We ordered the seafood tower, tuna tartar, Petite Filets, shrimp cocktail, extra oysters, braised short rib, Mac and cheese, celery piccata and a wedge salad... My favorite was the braised short rib which came with mashed potatoes, carrots and a delicious sauce. Everyone devoured all the food. The plates were licked clean. We shared everything... We also split a variety of the desserts... Molten cake, butter cake, cheesecake, and bread pudding. It was all splendid can't go wrong with any of it. My gotos would be the butter cake and bread pudding. Our server was fantastic. He didn't miss a beat. We appreciate all the staff for doing such an amazing job. We were able to just focus on catching up and laughing while all our needs were met. Just Thank You BLVD for making the evening so memorable. thank you, Michael.

There's valet available for $14, which is super convenient, but you can also find street parking if you get lucky. I got there a little early and started with a glass of Prosecco, then had a dirty martini that was delicious. The atmosphere was lively but still comfortable, and the bartenders were incredibly friendly and attentive. Overall, it was a really enjoyable night.
