Went yesterday for the first time with a 17 other women... we have lunch monthly at local restaurants. Food was amazing, I had the Swiss Shrimp (fried shrimp butterflies and stuffed with ham and cream cheese) and took home a Shrimp Empanada for my husband. NO ONE in our group complained about the food... this has never happened in the last 4 years! Service was excellent, efficient and friendly and they didn't balk at separate checks. On my last trip to Rio Rico / Nogales, my friends took me here for a welcome treat. The drinks were great - we had margaritas that got the evening off to a great start. For an appetizer, we shared an aguachile, which was absolutely delicious. We all agreed that it was the best dish that we had. However, two of us ordered the camarones en creme de chipotle. The sauce was already separated on both of our places by the time it was placed in front of us. I took my first bite of the shrimp (which were pretty big) in a warm flour tortilla, and the shrimp tasted off. I thought that I imagined it, because my friend didn't say anything, but after a few more bites and consulting with my friend who got the same dish, we both were completely turned off because the shrimp was not good (too fishy). We couldn't eat anything else for the evening. All of this being said, the atmosphere was great - live singing, fantastic service, and a lively party-like ambiance. This a restaurant with one great room decorated for the seasons there is some outdoor seating the staff is very helpful , friendly and attentive. I had dinner here last night. A family runs this restaurant and the food tastes like authentic Mexican food. The salsa served with the chips was too spicy for me personally. The guacamole was delicious. I thought this place was vegetarian friendly but upon arrival there wasn't anything on the menu. I asked the waiter about making me a vegetarian dish. They made me a gigantic burrito that only contained veggies. It was ok but I could barely eat half of it. The highlight was the mango margarita. read more

Took a first date here for a good seafood dinner. The ambiance was appropriate. There was very loud music inside, so we chose to sit outside to be able to talk. We ordered the shrimp stuffed, bacon wrapped Chiles Hueros, Shrimp in a green tomatillo cream sauce and a Molcajete. The food was mostly good, except for the beef in the molcajete. It was way overcooked and had a lot of tendons in it. It was extremely chewy and not eatable. When the server saw that we left all the meat, she asked if there was something wrong with it. I expressed my opinion of the meat and she apologized, but did not offer to replace it or take it off the bill. I would have been ok with replacing it with an appetizer or something, but she didn't offer, so I just moved on. The server was very sweet and nice, but she had too many tables, causing the service to be slow. Not her fault.... If I ever go back, I will not be ordering anything with beef in it. read more

What's going on with these reviews friends, y'all not ordering the right stuff. This seafood dish was divine! It was in Chipotle sauce, so tender and flaky, with delicious refried beans that were almost puréed and delicate. This refried bean style is pretty popular everywhere in the region. Huge fan, go check out this delicious tender fish and bean dish. I'd like to try some of their other stuff next time! Loved the service, the gentleman brought too much sauce for ME to even work with, and super fantastic container of sour cream that I liberally used on everything. These folks are new. There were some people here that did a REAL crummy job for a year or so but now the place is great again! I always get the Pulpo al Mjo de Ajo - octopus in garlic sauce- with flour tortillas. Its real tender, tasty and enjoyable. Their beans are made right there and are excellent. My wife usually gets the Enchiladas Suizas. Beer and wine are available. Entertainment is very good and easy listening. read more

This restaurant is very small so it fills quickly. We went on a Saturday night, party of 3. There was live music which was nice, he was talented, but it was SO loud you can't have a normal table conversation. We never got drink or chip refills. Had to ask for napkins. It took quite some time for our food to come out after ordering. My food wasn't terrible but it wasn't flavorful for the price. There were definitely more peppers than (very dry) meat on my fajitas and the beans and rice had zero flavor. The flour tortillas were definitely the star of the show. Bf tried the bacon wrapped shrimp and they were AMAZING. The service was overall ok but not great. read more

We'd heard that this place had really good seafood so we tried it. Of the four meals we had, only one was excellent. The others, not so much. Garlic shrimp - really, really good with lots of shrimp and garlic Grilled octopus - no way this was grilled and came in small pieces Shrimp skewer - huge pieces of veggies. not good. Met some friends for lunch, while visiting Tumacacori. This is a cute and delicious place to stop for any meal! The seafood was fresh and super tasty! Definitely try the Shrimp stuffed jalapeños wrapped in bacon! And the shrimp cocktail is authentic Mexican style! The service was great! We just had lunch at La Bocanita and it was wonderful! The waitress was friendly and attentive. My husband loved his Shrimp with Chipotle Cream and l will definitely be having the Shrimp Empanadas again. Lots of shrimp in both dishes and leftovers for tomorrow's lunch. I like La Bocanits . We don't eat there often. It is known for seafood, but I can't seem to get past the "green shrimp ". It's filled with mostly locals which means you hear more Spanish than English. . The service is good and the ambience I would call plain but friendly. Don't pass it up. We had the bacon wrapped chili with shrimp stuffed appetizer and it was unbelievable! It's spicy so be prepared. Then I had the deep fried shrimp taco for $4.50. Wow! Also amazing. We took 4 of our residents from our Senior Living Community. Food was great! 3 of them ordered the Enchiladas Suiza, they all loved them. Finding restaurants, around Tubac that are open on Monday is like pulling hen's teeth, but a friend told us about this place and we thought we'd give it a try. What a find! The margeritas were really good, and our entrees, were, spot on! I had the shrimp in mushroom sauce with onions and jalapeños. The shrimp were a good size, and perfectly cooked. The mushroom sauce, onions and jalapeño rounded out the flavor profile. The Cole slaw 2as delightfully light, providing just enough acid to balance out the shrimp and sauce. My 2ife loved the grilled fish which was well cooked and just melted in her mouth. We are eyeing the fried ice cream for dessert, and are very happy we found this place. We'll definitely be back! P. 5 of us had dinner here and we ordered the Parrillada, where you get to pick 3 types of meat. We had the Carne Asada, Chicken and the Shredded Beef. In hindsight we agreed we would order a double of the Carne Asada and the Chicken next time. The amount of meat served is very generous, there were 5 of us and we ate about 1/3 of what was served. I'm not exaggerating, I'd say this is the best carne asada I've had in quite a long time. Shrimp quesadilla and octopus were also big winners. Very authentic and delicious. Nice large portions. We were searching for some great Mexican food after we were staying in Tubac nearby and were tired of the unseasoned, bland food. This place was well worth the drive. Very friendly service, nice atmosphere, and the staff makes you feel at home. Prices are very reasonable as well. So happy to have found this place, we even went 2 days in a row. This is literally the most delicious restaurant in Rio Rico. My parents, my grandma, my boyfriend, my aunt, literally everyone adores this place. The Captain had to chill a week before writing this review. First the good: great food in the past; but my last visit left me wondering how this visit could have been so disappointing. We made reservations, only to be told upon arrival that they don't take reservations. Our mistake was waiting 30 minutes to be seated, and it didn't get any better. The chairs were filthy from the wiping of the table onto the chairs as well as the floor. So much for sanitizing in a pandemic. I had family guests from out of state and had told them (many friends who are locals too) how much my wife and I liked this place. One hour and 1/2 hour after our "reservation" we were served; well all but one of us. We canceled the last meal which finally arrived arrived just as we were leaving. They seemed surprised we didn't want it. My favorite dish that I highly touted was a deep fried mess of bacon and shrimp; so disappointing and sad. I had to get this off my chest. The homemade tortillas were see-through and not at all like any others I have had (including those from my own mother). This is one of those little out of the way places that could be very good, but just never will be. It has a big menu, with plenty of options one does not usually find in the typical mexican food restaurant in southern arizona. They have a focus on fish and they claim to have fresh fish daily. I had the Marlin Tacos. Have you ever had fish that you could not identify as fish? This was it. Have you ever had a tough taco? This was it. Over cooked dry and just not good. They did have a nice guacamole and plenty of chips, but all in all, it was over priced, poorly cooked, s l o w l y served, and just not good. Also, the wait staff was rude. The service is efficient but the night we went they had a full house with only two servers so there was a long wait for food and drink refills. In a place where there are 4 wait staff to 8 tables you would expect to get great service. Instead, our drinks ran dry and I had to ask for sour cream and salt twice before finally getting it.
