Haven't been in awhile. Outstanding bacon wrapped shrimp and I have no idea how they wrap the bacon so tightly. Poblano soup was a little spicy but I loved it. I made it at home the next day but I think I'll use it as a spicy dip or sauce. Homemade chips were solid and salsa was well-above average. Didn't have a margarita but will on Tuesday as I'm going back in a couple days. We'll try some other things and I'll report back. read more

Arizona is full of adventures and great restaurants, so I make a point to check out a local spot on every trip. While visiting Tumacácori National Historical Park, I came across this place and decided to stop in for a late lunch. I was seated right away at a nice table in the back of the cool, character-filled building. The menu offered plenty of tempting options, but I chose the Mary Hixon Plate. Neat little place in the middle of nowhere. The menu is huge so we had a lot to consider! I got a combo plate with the turkey tostada and the mango fish taco. Both were just okay, I wish I would've gotten something else. My father in law LOVED the chili rellenos. Service was friendly. A little slow at times but they were fairly busy since it was the during most people's Christmas vacations. I'd definitely give this place another chance! I've been here a few times and the food is good, service is pretty good. I love the "home" feel of the restaurant. I do believe it's overpriced. They charge you for everything two dollars for extra sauce two dollars for more salsa, six dollars for a side of beans , eight dollars for chips and salsa. I would definitely give it more stars if it weren't for this. Seriously, two dollars for a couple tablespoons of red sauce. A tamale should come with some kind of sauce on the side. read more

Amazing little restaurant in the middle of nowhere. It looks tiny but once you are inside you can see that they make great use of their space for seating. Last night was our first visit to Wisdom's. We arrived at 5 pm on a Friday and it was packed! Live music was really good and then we found out that on the first Friday of the month Margaritas are 2 for 1. And I must say, they were GOOD! I was seeing double after one! Service was slow but we didn't mind because it was just nice to sit and listen to the music. Food was awesome! I can't say enough good things about this place! I'd say it's the best Mexican food I have ever had. DEFINITELY try their chimichanga. I have never seen it fried so deliciously anywhere. Their green enchilada sauce (vegetarian) is so delicious and thick. I like to get it on the side and pour it on the chimichanga myself. For vegan, I get the chimichanga with their refried beans and whole beans (both vegetarian) and ask for veggie fajitas. Rice has chicken stock. They have tortillas with or without lard available and the ones without lard are delicious. Their tamales are super delicious too-- I had the vegan calabacitas tamale, they also have vegan green corn. I like the the service staff knows about ingredients or are happy to check. I love Wisdom's! I was first told about it when I moved to the Green Valley/Sahuarita area back in 2017. I became a regular customer, getting together with my friends several times a month. The food is very good, the staff are all very friendly and cheerful and the ambiance is fun, like the authentic old west. By the way..Ribs Night is terrific! Ribs that are nicely seasoned and fall off the bone. Try the Tequila Sea Salt ice cream for dessert. You will quickly become a big fan. We alway stop here when we are in Tupac. A great mexican food restaurant. I had a Chimichanga and my wife had a tostada. That's after we had the chips and avacodo & Salsa. We totally understand that prices have gone up everywhere... but this felt a bit too much. The margaritas are way overpriced for such a casual spot -- these are Vegas prices, not small-town vibes. The place still has charm, but the food just isn't the same anymore -- it's missing that signature flavor that used to make it special. Have eaten here for many years. Service and ambiance still the same but food is not. Seared fish tacos were ok. Served with pinto beans that lacked any seasoning. My favorite soup - Posole - had a pretty good flavor, but there was almost no pork in the watery liquid. No a rich broth. Wisdom's prices are above others and with the decline in quality we will not likely return. read more

Friends brought us here as we are new to the area. What a great spot! The ambience inside was rustic and clean. The shredded beef taco and enchilada were great- the chips and pico de gallo with the hot and mild sauces was excellent. They have 2 for 1 margaritas - not sure if every day, we were there on a Friday. No skimping on the tequila, so be careful if driving. Fruit burro's as dessert are not to be missed. Spectacular! I found this while visiting Tumacacori, what a find! I checked the reviews, the were good so we stopped in. We got there just before the "rush"... literally 15 people came up just as I was walking in. The staff was friendly and efficient, we sat immediately, service was perfect, food was really delicious and plentiful. They had live music - the soloist was really good. Huge increase in price. Margarita went from $10.95 to 13.95 a glass. Crazy. Dinners now like Burritos etc do not include rice and refried beans- rice and beans are now Xtra $4.50. so a Mexican meal with no Vegetables and cheap Lettuce runs into $20.00 plus. Crazy prices now. Not our first visit to Wisdom's by any means as our family has been Combi here for 25 years or more. Tonight we ordered a Combo platter with a ground beef taco and a chile Relano. The wife ordered a quesadilla filled with ground beef. We also got chips, salsa, and guacamole. All was excellent, and served very well hot. Now for the bad--the prices. Which are NOT GOOD. Wisdoms charges for their chips--and they charge a lot. The quesadilla was $12 but they add $8 more for chicken. So we went with ground beef. There was also an upcharge for my chile relano which was ridiculous. So while I gave Wisdom's Cafe max stars (for food quality and great ambiance) I give them zero stars for reasonable prices. Service was great. We walked out $70 poorer, way too much money paid for what we got. I'm incensed about having to pay $7 for chips and salsa!! read more

If you're in the area Wisdom's is THE place to go for Mexican food. Unique cabin like atmosphere with decades of memorabilia on the walls. Staff is friendly and efficient. Great Service, Good Food and a Nice Ambiance, but Average Value. $72 Mexican Food dinner for two excluding tip. To start, we had a Cheese Crisp with mild green chili for an appetizer. It was well-constructed and tasted Good. For entrees we ordered a Chimi w/rice beans and a red sauce and another Chimi w/ whole beans, green tomatillo sauce and side whole beans. The entrees were a nice size (not huge), good and came to $18 apiece. For Dessert we split their FOM (Fruit of the Month) Peaches/Cream Fruit Chimi with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream for $15. The split dessert was good, but I'm not certain it was $15 good. Our beverages were Diet Coke and Iced Tea. The restaurant has a comfortable feel and the service was excellent, but as semi-locals from Tucson, we won't be back here for Mexican food. Great place to unwind after a long hike along the nearby Anza Trail , where we enjoyed an ice cold barrio brewery blonde beer before our meal of mahi mahi tacos with pineapple salsa and the Mary Hixon- kind of like a shredded beef enchilada plate. Really good red Chile sauce on top, Spanish rice, and frijoles. I got the whole pintos with mine that were topped with onion and cilantro-also excellent! Our server was great and always available when we needed him. I saw the deep fried fruit Burros go by to the next table - with ice cream - but we were just too full. Next time. The low rating is very confusing.I don't understand how anyone could give Wisdoms less than a 5. We have gone to Wisdoms once or 3 times a year for 23 years.Every visitor that comes to Tucson to visit us ends up here within a day.Every time it is one of the top meals they experience. YESTERDAY was no exception.The uniqueness of the restaurant, the setting, and most of all, the food was outstanding as always.Our waitress Yetti was the best.Thank you. A recent visit to Wisdoms is the first time I have found it to be a disappointment. I ordered a Tamale and found on my plate an unrecognizable something that didn't look like any Tamale I have seen. Some kind of dry concoction without any sauce to lubricant it nor any corn husk. Our experience was also notable in that everything has an individual price on it. Salsa, chips, etc. Sorry, Wisdoms, you're just not worth the drive down there. read more
