I would highly suggest avoiding this place for their pushy and rude service. They prey on tourists and are aggressive with making this a really uncomfortable experience. Don't bother trying to come here if alone - the minimum order is for two, and the menu does not bother to list the price so good luck with what they charge you. One is more than enough since their Portuguese style seafood rice is to die for!! I'm sure this is not the only place that offers Portuguese seafood rice but there's a lot of seafood inside the pot. We even had stone crab and lobster legs inside! We paired a bottle of green wine with our seafood pot, and it was just perfect. The Seafood rice pot has langostino, a bit over cooked shrimp w/head-on, mussels, crab, and short grain rice in tomato based broth. Not spicy but it is tasty, we really enjoyed our pot-o rice and seafood. So you sit down, they take your drink order and that is it. No menus or food ordering because they only have one item. So depending on your party size they start cooking your size pot. 30 mins later your pot is served piping hot. Note!!: They serve you bread as soon as you sit, which is not free. Hello friends! Today we are all about the seafood rice! This is a traditional dish from Portugal and I had the pleasure of trying it out at Restaurante Uma Marisqueira! The restaurant is pretty hidden in downtown Lisbon and they are typically busy unless you visit outside of dinner hours. We arrived at Restaurante Uma Marisqueira at 8pm and were lucky enough to snag ourselves a table. The interior of the restaurant was very classic Lisbon with beautiful tiles along the walls and wine everywhere. Something we noticed about the tables here is that they put a piece of thin paper under your plates so they can easily clean the tables up after by simply discarding the whole sheet. At most if not all restaurants in Portugal, they offer you a plate of bread with a variety of spreads and cheese to put on it. If you consume the items, they will charge you for it but if you're not up for bread as an appetizer before dinner, you can ask them to take it away so you don't get tempted. We usually did without the bread because we rather save our stomachs for the delicious food to come. Being such a popular restaurant you would think that Restaurante Uma offers a variety of dishes to choose from but nope, they only serve ONE dish, seafood rice. You're not able to order anything else to eat at the restaurant and they will not make anything else for you. I mean why would they, they already thrive on their specialty. This place is great if you know what you want and what you want is seafood rice! Family stayed around the corner from this restaurant and was recommended to us by our Lisbon host. Although it was a local secret The word got out that these guys do seafood rice well. That they do. The Decour is nothing to write home about but those are typically some of my favourite restaurants along with the ones that have great Decour. Of course you know you're going for good food when the other is not as present. That said the place was packed there was a line out the door which we waited for about 20 minutes to get seated. The fun part is is that nobody asks you what you want (other than drinks). It was my first time having Portuguese seafood rice so I can't claim to be an expert but it was a good hearty meal, very messy for a first timer but I'm sure I would be able to figure out how to eat it without a 10 foot wide radius of seafood rice around me at the end. Soo good! A seafood lovers place to go. Shrimp, crab, mussels in a soup broth with rice was tasty. Shrimps were slightly overcooked but hard not to do when put in a broth. Tables are very close together so there's no privacy but we met a couple from Ireland and had a great discussion. Super good place if you're looking for a restaurant you don't want to think too hard about. This small place has only one menu item and the hilarious and wonderful staff was reminding people of that the whole time. They only serve seafood rice which is a pot of some fresh pieces of seafood (crab, langonista, mussels, and what we think is some kind of soft shell crab) and some Arborio rice. It is cooked to order so there will be a wait as soon as you sit down. We arrived at the restaurant at 6:15 PM thinking that it opened at 7 PM. Our tour guide had advised us to get there early since there is always a line. Turns out, three weeks ago, they changed their operating hours to 6PM! Lucky us to have been seated so early! They will serve you bread, patê of tuna, salted butter, a soft cheese, and patê of sardines. Be warned that you will be charged for these per item if you eat them. You must also pay for drinks if you don't have your own water or sodas. The price was €25 for two people and they serve it all in a single pot. They'll do this for any size party up to 4. After that, I'm not sure if they have big enough pots The service is not the fastest but they're all so accommodating and nice. Their seafood rice is very similar to Italian Cioppino, a mixed seafood tomato stew of mussels, clams, shrimps, razor clams, small crab, etc. with rice at the bottom of the pot served to each table. Self promoted as 'Best Seafood Rice in the World' is debatable. But the large crowds may attest to their reputation for their seafood rice. I came here at 6:40pm (opens at 7pm) and I was the third group in line. Lucky to have waited before opening because the restaurant was full if you weren't the first 10-12 groups! Recommend getting there 15-30 minutes before. The seafood rice was amazing! It came in a pot and the seafood proportion was great - there were prawns, crab, mussels and plenty of rice. It was so delicious - with more of a savory tomato sauce flavor. We did not leave ONE grain of rice. Price was 25€ for 2 people. You also get a fun experience interacting and watching the two owners - one who cooks in the kitchen (one man operation) and the other slowly walks to take orders (doesn't smile but he is sincere and helpful). We followed others advice on getting here before opening. We got there about 10 minutes before and there were already 10 others in line! The place is small but it can probably accommodate 20-30 people. When we called a few days ahead we were told they don't take reservations but there were table that had a reserved sign on them which was very confusing. Other reviews had warned of the service there saying the owner is rude and brusque. I found him fine. His English is fairly limited so maybe that's where the disconnect happened for others?? We got the house specially which is the seafood rice for 2. It was delicious. It had a good amount of mussels, shrimp and crab. It is a little spicy but was really good. It took a while to get the food because he takes everyone's orders first and then cooks it himself. A great place to go if you like seafood. Remember to get there early. It actually got better so the sauce was absorbed by the rice. The service is what you would expect from a hole in a wall type restaurant. We had one meal there before we headed for Madrid. The food was good, of course their signature dish " seafood rice ". We saw them taking reservation, so we booked a table one week later after our Madrid trip. We arrived at the restaurant 7 o'clock sharp, it was pouring rain outside, they did not have a table for us. Let me explain, the whole place is run by three old people, yes just three oldies and they're always full. Wonderful food. Didn't know if it was authentic but good and plentiful. Really low price for the food and central location. Having read about rude service etc we had our hotel reserve a table two days in advance and had no trouble getting seated immediately upon arrival. Without further ado we just pointed to the house specialty, the arroz de Marisco. Came in a large soupy pot, slightly tangy with spices, and huge amount of seafood - crab, prawns, scampi, and mussels. Delicious. But try to reach the bottom where the rice is with every scoop. A table of Chinese tourists tried to order other items off the menu and were promptly ignored by the only one waiter, the old guy. He only spoke Portuguese and I suppose they had trouble communicating and he wasn't trying anyway. We told them just order the rice and be done with. Works like a charm. I don't know if the old guy is rude. He is in his late 70s or may be even older, walked around slowly and was just overwhelmed by the amount of work in seating customers, taking orders and serving the dishes. My partner and I visited this restaurant whilst on a holiday in Lisbon. It was our first experience of traditional Portuguese food. We had the seafood rice which was amazing. It was full of flavour and a generous portion, it was served in the pot it was cooked in. The restaurant was small but comfortable. We were some of the first to arrive after they had opened for dinner so we didn't wait long for our meal. It's obvious its popular because by the time we had finished eating it was filled to capacity. The cook and the waiter/barman were great! Neither spoke English, they were both older gentleman but that only added to the experience. One was friendly (the cook) and the other (barman) was grumpy, a bit of an odd couple but they knew their stuff and the service was good. read more
