Very old hotel that needs updating. I stayed here about 10 years ago but it's not been taken care of well since. It was cheap and good location so we tried it again. Room thankfully was clean, but shower head hanging off wall, switch plates barely hanging on, chips in the flooring. The stairwell has dirty sheets, pillows, trash and dirty underwear as well. We checked in for a staycation on our WEDDING ANNIVERSARY 5/15 to enjoy the view of the ocean and get away from the city. I was almost willing to overlook the dirty tub that has a nonstop drip, dirty floors, and doors in which the knobs were falling off of ( I have pictures). It's crazy because the thing that bugged me the most and was also the last straw was the BUGS ON THE PATIO. You will not be able to enjoy the view because of the SWARM OF BUGS on the patio because the bright light on the top floor that we were informed doesn't turn off. So you'd think that because it was not a busy night and over half of the rooms at this entire establishment were still available, we'd be able to exchange rooms. WE WERE TOLD WE COULD NOT EXCHANGE ROOMS BECAUSE ALL THE ROOMS HAD BUGS AT NIGHT. This is an older motel that has updated the rooms. The parking is awful with not enough parking for all the guests. The lobby and every part of the motel until in the room is run down. There have been recent updates to the actual rooms. We arrived to no shower curtain, dirty sheets and food folded up in the pull out sofa and trash under the sink in the bathroom. The pull out sofa is a very thin mattress that the springs can be felt through while lying on it. Whoever sleeps there will not be well rested and have a back ache. Bring an air mattress/mattress pad to put on top. By far the worst pull out I've ever slept on and that was just for a short nap. Mostly clean, no bugs, and oceanfront are the positives. read more

I understand that many businesses are doing their best during COVID. However, this particular business failed to do anything about the many sketchy things going on in plain sight. We witnessed countless situations during my week long stay. Absolutely nothing is done about disruptive guests. The neighboring room from us had people going in & out at all hours & always smelled like marijuana. The housekeeping staff never attended to us, not once. I stayed at this property two years ago & that stay was pleasant. I had high expectations returning to this property, but those exceptions are long gone. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff was super nice but the rooms didn't look like anything they do online nor the pool. I did like the nice size tvs in the living room and bedroom. We did have actual flooring and not carpeting which would have been really nice if they were clean (swept and mopped). The couch was not worth sitting on. Fridge could have been cleaner. Asked for extra towels and they did bring them up but left them in the hallway at the neighbors door and in a clear bag. read more

Stayed in 2016. The worst hotel I've ever stayed in at Virginia Beach. Air conditioning was out the entire week we were there. Parking was taken up by RV's and family members of the owners who were visiting to watch the 4th of July fireworks. The doors won't lock and so when the neighbor across the way opens their door, ours would fly open. It was clean, but everything was rusting and falling apart. When I called to see if we would get refunds or something comped for having rooms be 90 degrees all week, I was yelled at. I've stayed in 5 hotels in Virginia Beach, and I've been in 2 or 3 more visiting friends and it's so far below the quality of any other one I've seen in the area. Total Garbage. Room is gross. Sink drains slow. Very few towels. Worst of all. The desk clerk tried to get an extra $75 out of me. He claimed there was a balance of $75/ that we payed for half the room online and the other half is to be paid at the desk. I argued it and he pretended to type and then said it was actually ok. The room was a total of $92 so how $75 was "half the cost" is a lie. He then lied and claims he didn't say that. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE trust the reviews. Don't bother with this bio hazard of a hotel. We stayed in this room for about 30 minutes and ended up leaving in the middle of the night and checking into a Comfort Inn a block away. Upon arrival I immediately inspected the entire suite. The overall appearance is very old and filthy. In the bathroom I found streaks of poop ON the toilet bowl. Yes, you read correctly, ON the toilet bowl, not IN it. The walls in the bathroom had stains from leaks in the ceiling and it looked like mold. It wasn't any better in the bedroom, I found 2 long strands of hair on the bed and found a pubic hair underneath the pillow. The management is very terrible and haven't given us a refund. read more

We moved here in October of '16 and have been looking for a house. We stayed here for 2 months ONLY because it is what we could afford. We took advantage of their weekly winter rates 292$ a week because we are trying to save for a house. That being said, it is insanely run down. We stayed there through their balcony construction (which we were never warned about BTW) We just woke up to people banging on our door saying they needed through our room to rip out the balcony barriers. All that wouldn't have been a problem is housekeeping wasn't so incredibly RUDE. I mean intentionally just rude. You have NO choice what so ever but to let them into your room once a week and if you don't "clean" your room before housekeeping gets there they get mad at you. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART: *They are not at all kid friendly* My 3 year old had a bed wetting accident and they LOST THEIR MINDS. Told us not to go into the back bedroom, she flipped up the mattresses got a bottle of bleach and just went crazy with bleach then threatened me with a 250$ cleaning fee and even got the manager to write me a letter and stick in my door threating that we would have to buy them a whole new mattress. That's when we left. We didn't even stay through what we had paid for knowing THEY DO NOT DO REFUNDS AT ALL WITH OUT A FIGHT, but we left anyways. They say they have renovated their rooms but putting in new carpet and slapping on updated comforters from their previous comforters that look like they were purchased in the 70's from a cheesy Hawaiian shop does not make their rooms "renovated". Their stoves are old and half the time didn't work. the fridge barely kept things cold and STUNK. The heat rarely worked and we lost power at least once a week. Their hotel has so many more issues than slapping new carpet on the floor. Not to mention parking is a freaking JOKE. Find anywhere else but here. read more

Pros: Beach view and comfortable beds. Cons: Almost everything is either fallen apart or it doesn't work. For example, when we got here the all tvs wouldn't come on or we could just hear the sound, my mother had to fix it herself because we waited hours for them to come up to our room(when she should be relaxing from her long drive), there weren't any curtains on the window so people could see into our bedroom(all they suggested was put a sheet over the window), they were working on the hotel almost 24/7(which is very unprofessional, it should have been closed down if they needed to work on the hotel), the house keepers didn't speak any English, and all they did was switch out dirty towels and take the trash out(house keeping should have swept the floors, made the bed, and ask what should be done so they can do their job), and when the pull out couch was broken the maintenance man came up to our room said they couldn't replace it and didn't know what to tell us(what was the point of even going to our room to tell us that??), and the their is only one elevator which takes forever to get up and down(it doesn't have any ac or even a fan in it), the mini fridges didn't hold much stuff(which doesn't help because we are a big family). We were just switched to another room across the one we were staying in and this one doesn't have any curtains on the window either. This was ridiculous and honestly this place needs to shut down and work on themselves. We drove 5 hours to get here and expected a nice hotel where we can relax. Okay.. The elevator was slow, the place needs a lot of work, and it is a mecca for twenty-something partiers. All that said, if I am ever in Virginia Beach again i will definitely stay at the Marjac..!! The management was incredibly helpful as we needed to store pole vaulting poles and they made room in a storage space for us and this was no small feat to store 14' poles. The hotel is conveniently located right on the water, smack in the middle to the boardwalk, and we had fireworks three times that week right outside our door over the water.. The hotel as I said is a bit run down, but it is on the beach so what do you want?? You can walk right in covered in sand, wet, and dragging your wake boards behind and not get a second look. I was there with four children and they loved it. We had a full kitchen, two beds and a pull out, living room separate from the bedroom, and a functioning bathroom. Maybe I am not too choosy when it comes to hotel accommodations, but it was clean, functional, and appropriate for our use. If you are a 4-5 star hotel kind of person then you will hate the Marjac.. If you are happy to have a laid back place to call home for a week, enjoy the beach, like people watching, and are not opposed to approaching the front desk in a friendly way to ask for more towels or other such things, then check it out. read more

Do not stay here! You have been warned. The hotel is very old and needs several upgrades. The doors to the balconies don't close very well and have gaping holes letting out your AC. The hotel doors barely close and many items in your room likely won't work like the doors, refrigerator, hotel safe, tvs and outlets. The beds are very old and very small. If you are looking for an attentive staff then you will be disappointed. When my mother got to her room, the AC didn't work. She called numerous times before someone came up and they swear they fixed the problem at 6:00pm in the evening. She had to get maintenance to come back again and the problem still wasn't fixed. She had to change rooms at 11:00pm. When she got to the new hotel room her toilet was about to overflow, her refrigerator didn't work, the hotel door wouldn't lock and the tv didn't work. And she had to call maintenance again. That same night the AC in my room started having problems. The next day I called the front desk 4 times to get maintenance up to fix the problem starting at 9:00am and maintenance finally came at 5:00pm. There is only one maintenance man and I would guess that because of the condition of the hotel, he is the hardest working person here. The more you look at this hotel, the more you see how bad it's falling apart. This hotel was 2.5 stars on hotels.com and that was way too generous. I think the 1 star rating that I'm making now is also too generous, but Yelp doesn't give he option to rate a place for half a star. Pay the additional money and go somewhere else. read more

We stayed at Marjac because of the location to the beach and the price. Our view was absolutely anything! All the rooms are ocean front. The beds could be upgraded but besides that everything was perfect. The staff was really friendly. The spot was perfect, right on the beach and also on the strip. We we're able to walk to different shops and restaurants. We will definitely be back and would stay here again. read more

We've stayed here twice for the sand soccer tournament at VA beach and neither time have I been impressed. The hotel is old and our room had a stale mildew smell. The beds are uncomfortable and the bedding is old. Our shower wouldn't drain, but when we reported it to the front desk they sent someone up to fix it very quickly. The front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful. It's in a great location too, however I think next year we'll spend the extra money and stay somewhere newer and cleaner. Well an update...what a mess. We were charged more than the amount originally quoted and instead of fixing it we were given vouchers for a % off our next stay, even though we clearly told the manager we only come to VA Beach once a year for this tournament. In addition our credit cards were double charged and it's an Act of God to be able to reach a manager to fix it. Very disappointed in the management of this hotel. HORRIBLE! The room was dirty. I went in to take a shower two of the towels were wet and have hairs on them. The one that was dry also had hairs on them. I called down to the desk they said they are still wet because they're dryer to not dry them all the way but they chose to put them in the rooms anyways. And I let them know there was hair in the sink as well. She told me it probably flung off the other towel. Clearly that does not make it any better! She showed me another room, that literally had stuff from another person in the toilet!! We left!!! read more

We knew it wasn't a 5 star resort however if you are paying over 500 for two nights starting on a Sunday you at at least expect a/c -basic cleanliness -not a used bandaid in the pullout- a pillow at night for the pullout - we were given fans it averaged 80 degrees the entire stay the room we were in had partical board for dresser top and nightstand top! My room had no cover over the bathroom exhaust fan, no light whatsoever over the bathroom sink, the shower curtain rod was falling off the wall, so the shower curtain didn't sit properly, so water went all over the floor. A broken receptacle cover exposing the receptacle next to the bed. The Tv wasn't working in the living room area, the bedroom remote didn't have batteries. You had to hold the fridge, yes hold the fridge to open the door, or you would pull it out from underneath the counter because it is off balance. Don't, I repeat DO NOT take a bottle of water to the pool with you!!! The pool police ( the man that could have been fixing all of the above instead of harassing me) will tell you to read the sign saying no beverages ? Then he will jump on his high horse, and slap on his sunglasses, throw everyone out of the pool, saying it's going to rain ! There is one small elevator for 7 floors, 3 luggage carts, and they have how many rooms??? Also, this is VERY IMPORTANT, PAY ATTENTION!! If you plan on arriving before the 4PM check in, prepare to be told to WALK 2 BLOCKS .. to use the bathroom, you read that right, NO BATHROOM for you to use until you check into your room. Gotta pee after your long ride, NOPE.. Wanna change into your swimsuit, hang at the beach till your room is ready, To Bad, walk 2 blocks... The hotel is not a place I will be returning too... two ladies that were work the front desk. The young one was super nice and friendly but the old one was completely opposite. The old lady was really rude, thought she had way better things to do then help guest, and when you asked for help she was really snobby about it. The room is is big for a normal hotel room in stay at. The balcony door doesn't close all the way. The walls are nasty. The pullout bed is super hard and uncomfortable. The beds in the bedroom are really small. The bathroom is really small and the tub feels like it's going to drop to the next floor (hope ur not 350 pounds taking a shower or it will)...the view is amazing tho... *WARNING* if you book a room here they will not refund and I've heard they refused to refund to people who wanted to leave because the room was bad. First off, lobby is very small and there is only one elevator for 6 floors and even then the elevator was small. The stairs are always wet and smells like mildew. The pictures online are false advertising the rooms look nothing like that. The swimming pool is poorly taken care of and isn't as big as it was in the pictures. Half of the lights in our room didn't work, the TV remote wasn't even the right for the TV, there were literal roaches in the bathroom, the sheets were stained and smelled, the balcony was held together by PVC pipes, and there is only one light in the bathroom. I would rate this place a zero! It was horrible! Our room had holes in the floor, light sockets hanging out of the walls, the inside of the microwave was filthy and the paint was chipping. There was cookies behind the bed and no sheets on the pull out sofa. The swimming pool area was gross and the water was green! The day we checked in we called down to the front desk to explain our concerns and were told that the only person that could help us was the manager Jeff but he wouldn't be in until 8am the next morning. The next morning we went down to the front desk at 8:30am with luggage in hand ready to check out because we weren't staying another night! We asked the guy at the desk if he was Jeff the manager and he said no Jeff would be in later. We checked out and said we would be back for the refund for our 2nd day because we weren't staying another night. We went back after breakfast abs there was a different guy at the front desk. We ask to speak to Jeff the manager and he said sure. He called someone on the phone and when the person got off of the elevator it was the same guy we had spoken to that morning!!!!! He lied to us earlier and said he wasn't the manager! We had to go through so much to get our refund. They gave us a fake corporate number and kept giving us the runaround. We didn't give up though. We called so many times that day they got sick of it and finally issued us a refund for our 2nd day. This place should not be an ocean front hotel. read more

The location was great. Right on the beach. The front desk workers were all very friendly. Other than that, there is nothing positive to say. When we pulled in, the dumpsters were all overflowing. Garbage on the ground. It was disgusting. The pool is small and covered in leaves. Got to the room, the floors had sand left from the people before us. We had dirty towels in the bathroom , one had a hair still hanging off of it. One of the "blankets" was dirty. The blanket was just a decorative sheet. There was not a blanket on the bed. The pillows and sheets had a musty smell to them. They advertise free WiFi, however we were often not able to access it , which was problematic, I am a college student on vacation. I had to get up early to go to a local cafe, to do school work before my family woke up. We were on the top floor, and the elevator didn't work, so we had to go up and down 7 flights each time we went in and out. The elevator did get fixed, however my family was then afraid to use it so we continued to climb the stairs. While the location was great, I will not ever stay here again, or recommend staying to anyone else. read more
