The staff of Merrill Gardens were amazing in making this move both timely and financially doable for us. I really thought Mom would be unhappy with having to change facilities but she tells me almost daily how happy she is. She loves still having her own apartment, how friendly the other residents and staff are plus how good the food is. I agree with her on these things plus I am so glad to have caregiver services available that can increase with Mom's needs. Merrill Gardens was the silver lining to an otherwise stressful situation.

Compared to the other facilities she stayed in, she particularly felt touched by the incredible love and support rendered by The Springs at Sherwood. Prior to coming to the Springs, her previous nursing home kept her heavily medicated, and she was not even able to function or communicate with us. Your different approach, which required more effort, attention, and true compassion woke her up for us, and even in the week before her passing, we were able to have loving conversations with her. We really appreciate the special care you provided for her, thank you for your extra efforts and kindness... I know she was not an easy patient. He hosted the lunch today for 23 people who also listened to a presentation by Rob Mill from CERT (Community Emergency Response Team). He told us how to take immediate steps to be prepared for any natural disaster. It was a great day and Alberto and Emerald Gardens made it perfect! Everyone I've encountered at Emerald Gardens is friendly, professional and very helpful--especially Alberto! Thank you so much for all you do for the Senior Center!

More like a thank you letter…read more Probably not the easiest review to write, but necessary to help others dealing with the same circumstances. I have a family member living here and has unfortunately has gone into Hospice care. This week has been very difficult for me and my family to say the least. I do want to say, we've all been very impressed by the professional, compassionate and sometimes thankless work they do daily. It's HARD work. The profession I'm in works hand in hand with housing such as Emerald Gardens. To me, many folks that work at some of these facilities and with Hospice are "angels walking among us" I am reminded that there are wonderful caring people in this world.. Even though our family is hurt and saddened by the loss of a family member, we all feel we were in good hands and more importantly our loved one was in good hands and acknowledged, respected and understood by the staff here, and that, brings some comfort to us. As with any assisted living setting, there are amazing staff who radiate love for seniors and then there are certain staff who it's clear being there is "just a job." This is true at all senior living communities. The owner is fairly involved in the community from what I understand. It's always discouraging to read grandiose negative reviews when hundreds or thousands of residents and staff have amazingly positive experiences that you never will hear. Definitely check out Woodland Heights if you are looking for an assisted living community in the PDX area!

That wasn't the case. The employees worked well with the residents. It is smart to hire people in the same age group as your residents. Smart, they can relate. It was like one big happy family. The food was great, as residents and staff look well fed and comfortable. The lady running it was very approachable, and nice. Her grandkids must be the envy of the neighborhood. Dad is probably going to become a resident.

If you're looking for assisted living for yourself or a loved one, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere! The place is chronically understaffed because the pay here is lower than paid elsewhere and they lose the better workers quickly. There are about 55 rooms here and we're so understaffed sometimes there is only 1 resident's assistant trying to cover the whole place. I don't think this is even legal. The low pay also translates to a low quality *workforce (* there are a few saints who work here in spite of the crappy pay though.) This low quality really shows in the cook for example He really shouldn't even be called a cook, he's a professional can and box opener, at best! If you like canned fruits and vegetables and pre-made food made in a factory somewhere, you'll like the food here. If not, you'll definitely be disappointed and you'll find yourself buying a lot of your own food like I do. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea. So why don't I move if it's so bad here? I tried very hard, for 2 years, until I finally gave up. My warning to you is to think long and hard about moving here, because once you do you may be stuck here regretting it like I do. This is NO place for Mom! Good luck with your search.

I can remember him driving people to go shopping down town Salem. I loved riding along. Not sure a person could get away with that now. My grandmother on my Mother's side worked here when they first opened. I have no memory of it because I wasn't born yet. This last August my Grandma from Dad's side moved in. I stopped in a few times to see her with my doggie's, and my Son's. I thought her apartment was really cute, updated, and clean. When you walk in you smell the food. It smelled pretty good. I was hoping to get a chance to eat a meal with my Grandma. The last time I stopped was mid September. I am glad I stopped. That was the last time I was able to spend with her. My Dad said the meals were good, he went to eat with her, and so did my Aunt, and Uncle. If I lived up there I would have been there a lot. I am just glad she was able to spend her final days some what close to home, and some what familiar.

I was immediately surprised at the building architecture and surroundings and upon entering my room, I was greeted by sunlight, clean, fresh, and a great room, kitchenette and bedroom, large roll in shower and bathroom. I was greeted by name and even one of the residents was holding me a place for lunch. The executive staff is very professional but warm and kind. The support staff is equally amenable. I have never had anyone be short with me upon a request. The activities director is amazing in the number of activities she organizes. If you are looking for a place for a family member or yourself, this facility is a nice size. Not too small, not too big. I would definitely return here in the future if necessary for my well being. One of my best friends just retired as an ombudsman for retirement centers. Oswego Place did not know who she was of course and she said to me "the atmosphere here is positive and welcoming."

Bonaventure must be an awful employer to work for because staff turnover is ridiculously high! In…read morethe year+ since my great aunt moved to Oswego Place, there have been 6 (yes six!) different executive directors. She has lost count the number of activities staff that have come and gone and it's a revolving door for care staff. Staff are literally there one week and gone the next. There is no continuity whatsoever and understaffing is a constant problem along with theft. There have been many residents, including my aunt who have had precious items stolen, and although there is a rumor that one of the elderly residents is the thief, my aunt believes it is the unscrupulous staff. Bonaventure leadership does not care whatsoever and gaslights those who report theft. Bonaventure leadership has also been entirely unresponsive to the issues raised by residents. My aunt has asked repeatedly for fresh fruit for breakfast but has never been served anything other than cheap canned fruit. She also asked for more cultural activities outside of the building, but that almost never happens. Our family knows Dwight Dunton, the owner of Bonaventure, and that's why my great aunt was moved to Oswego Place. But it turns out knowing people in high places is no assurance. Dwight rakes in millions of dollars off self-paying residents and Medicaid, living a rich man's life while his employees and his customers suffer under poor management and a lack of investment in business operations and facility maintenance. Sadly, Oswego Place is just another example of a multi-millionaire living off the backs of good, hard working people.
