I came into the facility expecting the worst, but my experience with Alexis and Shana completely changed my perspective. From the moment I arrived, Alexis was incredibly accommodating and helpful. She helped me locate my mother and even assisted me in finding my mother's phone without any hesitation or frustration. Her kindness and willingness to help immediately made me feel more at ease. Shana also stood out with her positive and upbeat attitude. When families and patients are going through difficult or stressful times, having someone with that kind of energy and compassion truly makes a difference. People staying in places like this really need to encounter staff members like her. Meeting both Alexis and Shana genuinely eased my mind and gave me comfort about my mother being here. Their care, professionalism, and kindness deserve to be recognized.

I was greeted by name and even one of the residents was holding me a place for lunch. The executive staff is very professional but warm and kind. The support staff is equally amenable. I have never had anyone be short with me upon a request. The activities director is amazing in the number of activities she organizes. If you are looking for a place for a family member or yourself, this facility is a nice size. Not too small, not too big. I would definitely return here in the future if necessary for my well being. One of my best friends just retired as an ombudsman for retirement centers. Oswego Place did not know who she was of course and she said to me "the atmosphere here is positive and welcoming."

She has lost count the number of activities staff that have come and gone and it's a revolving door for care staff. Staff are literally there one week and gone the next. There is no continuity whatsoever and understaffing is a constant problem along with theft. There have been many residents, including my aunt who have had precious items stolen, and although there is a rumor that one of the elderly residents is the thief, my aunt believes it is the unscrupulous staff. Bonaventure leadership does not care whatsoever and gaslights those who report theft. Bonaventure leadership has also been entirely unresponsive to the issues raised by residents. My aunt has asked repeatedly for fresh fruit for breakfast but has never been served anything other than cheap canned fruit. She also asked for more cultural activities outside of the building, but that almost never happens. Our family knows Dwight Dunton, the owner of Bonaventure, and that's why my great aunt was moved to Oswego Place. But it turns out knowing people in high places is no assurance. Dwight rakes in millions of dollars off self-paying residents and Medicaid, living a rich man's life while his employees and his customers suffer under poor management and a lack of investment in business operations and facility maintenance. Sadly, Oswego Place is just another example of a multi-millionaire living off the backs of good, hard working people.

Your different approach, which required more effort, attention, and true compassion woke her up for us, and even in the week before her passing, we were able to have loving conversations with her. We really appreciate the special care you provided for her, thank you for your extra efforts and kindness... I know she was not an easy patient. She had been in the hospital and then a rehabilitation center after suffering a hip fracture at a retirement community's memory unit in Portland's West Hills. That community looked like a high end hotel and was considered the best in the Portland area. It was expensive but I assumed it meant my mom would be receiving high quality care and that was extremely important to me. I quickly learned that a beautiful facility and high fees do not translate to good care. The staff were pleasant but did not seem connected to the residents and took care of their needs in a perfunctory manner. They were also unskilled when it came to working with memory impaired individuals. When I called to check in, they seemed to have no idea how my mom was doing and my mom was rarely bathed. This concerned me and so I ended up paying extra for personal caregivers several times a week. It was at this facility that my mom was intentionally pushed over by an 18 year-old unskilled caregiver and suffered a extremely painful and debilitating hip fracture. After rehabilitation, my mom arrived at Farmington Square. She was crying and clinging on to me as this was her third transition within a span of 2 months. I was not able to accompany her inside as Farmington was abiding by strict COVID protocols. The staff there went out of their way to help my mom feel at ease and helped her get to know other residents. They also reassured me. Whenever I called to check in on her, they clearly seemed to know and care about her and provided detailed updates. When I spoke with her on the phone, she seemed happy. Once limited visits were allowed, they were very accommodating. In June of 2021, my mom's health declined and she was placed in hospice. Initially, I was going to bring her to my home, but I realized her needs exceeded my capabilities. I felt like I was letting her down but after spending time at Farmington with her, I quickly realized that she had wonderful relationships with the residents and caregivers and it was home to her. My sisters and I stayed with my mom 24/7 during the last weeks of her life and we were able to observe the consistent high quality care that my mom as well as all the other residents received. These outstanding caregivers were all emotionally mature individuals who were naturally compassionate people. They were attuned to my mom's needs and she was receptive to their caregiving because they were well-trained and had developed a trusting relationship with her. The staff and administrators even took care of me and my sisters. They brought in trays with coffee, ice water, and snacks and sat beside us as we struggled to say goodbye to our mom. Through these experiences I have seen the very worst and the very best of care for a loved one. Farmington exemplifies the very best by focusing their efforts on hiring extraordinary caregivers, which meant that my mom was always clean and comfortable and experienced the joy of meaningful relationships and feeling loved at the end of her life.

Ok as a place to live, terrible as a place to work…read more The facility is kept clean and sanitary. The buildings are well lit and modern looking. The food is decent. The residents are bathed often and have clean clothing and hair is combed. The downside for them is that the staff is treated badly and so there is high turnover, so they may be cared for by people who do not know them very well. The pay here is barely above minimum wage. The managers treat their employees like they are in middle school not actual adults. They "reprimand" for things that the employees were never actually taught. People like to be treated respectfully, and if they are not, they will leave. It's a vicious cycle which seems to explain the constant revolving door. It's a shame because most of the residents are nice and deserve to have caring people looking after them. Contacting Radiant Human Resources is a complete waste of time. They only pretend to care about you as a publicity stunt. I can assure you that they do not and are totally dismissive and will make up feeble excuses to justify how badly you are treated and try to convince you that it is perfectly normal and does not qualify as creating a toxic work environment. Fortunately you are not under any contract to stay there and have the freedom to run quickly in the opposite direction.

I recently had a meeting with Katherine who greets everyone with a giant smile. If I meet another staff member in the building everyone says hello or asks if I need help. It's fun to go in and really fun to see what kinds of activities and events they do for their residents. They seem to do lots of things for the residents to help them stay cognitively and physically strong--not just do activities to keep them busy. Things like the Cook to Connect class and gardening are so good for them. Loved to see the Intergenerational activities since I know how much they enjoy being around children. The residents seem happy whenever I'm in the building. Definitely a place I'd want my family members to be if they needed care.
