I had a great experience with Matt Liss, with purchasing a single family home and selling a condo. I did a ton of research before choosing a realtor and Matt exceeded my expectations across all of the dimensions I considered. Matt is incredibly knowledgeable about micro-neighborhoods of Chicago and helped us understand why certain blocks were more desirable than others, pointing out the pros / cons of certain locations. At a specific property level, Matt would do the same, pointing out features or downsides that we had not seen or considered. As a result, when we chose a home to put an offer on, we felt like we were making a fully informed and considered decision, which gave us huge peace of mind. Throughout the whole process, we also never felt pressured to make a quick decision. Matt was interested in me and my husband finding the perfect home for us, no matter how long that took or how many properties we saw. And when we got into bidding and negotiations, Matt leveraged his relationships to find out more information and guide us along the way. On the sale side, Matt had his photographer come out multiple times so we could make sure we had the perfect pictures for our listing (e.g., capturing deck images while it was still nice out before the rest of the condo was ready to photograph). And he made the process incredibly convenient, deploying his team on multiple occasions to meet contractors (e.g., house cleaners, stagers, etc.) so that we would not have to make a trip back to our old place to let them all in. My wife and I bought our first home in May 2021 with Matt Liss as our realtor. Choosing a realtor was difficult. We didn't want someone who would always agree with us and just seek a commission. We wanted someone who would be brutally honest with us and help us make the right decision. And that's what we found with Matt: during the entire process he was very honest and wanted what was best for us. He never put any pressure on us, but he did convince us to explore different property types and specifically duplex downs, which we had not considered. And of course we ended up purchasing a duplex-down which we love. Personality wise, Matt is great: he's very direct, doesn't sugar coat things and truly wants the best for you. We had done a lot of research and work prior to working with a realtor, so we had many questions for Matt. He was able to answer them clearly. If you put a lot of effort into the process and come to Matt with clear questions and "what would YOU do if you were us" type of questions, you will get a lot out of him. He made us feel good about our decisions throughout the entire process. Also, Matt has a great sense of humor which is always good! From a business perspective: Matt knows his stuff. He knows Chicago perfectly, knows everything you can imagine about a house (the contractor side, electricity, plumbing etc.) and he will teach you things as you tour houses/condos. If a house is overpriced, or if he doesn't feel good about a property or notices issues, he'll tell you right away. On top of that, he pointed us towards people he trusts when we needed a lawyer, a mortgage officer etc., and they were all very nice and professional. Having this "team" working together made the process easier. In terms of communications: we knew Matt was busy, but he still answered our texts/emails very quickly, which was great. This review is long overdue, as we had a great experience buying a condo with Matt Liss of Mark Allen Realty back in 2015. But Matt really outdid himself when we recently sold our condo and bought a single family home in the very hot Logan Square market. First, on the buying side. Matt really knows Logan, and provided the right combination of hand holding and gentle nudges about our house preferences and budget. He got us thinking about what we really wanted and needed in a home, and helped us narrow down our seemingly unlimited list of potential properties (a greystone two flat? a bigger duplex condo? a strange diy nightmare house?) to what actually made sense for us. After a year of looking, we finally landed a perfect house and we couldn't be happier. Matt was an expert at all the negotiations necessary for a house purchase, and was willing to help us out with a few extras like lead water testing during the inspection period. We bought feeling really confident we'd made the right choice, despite being massively indecisive by nature. Second, on the selling side. Matt worked with Alyse to get our property sold almost instantly, despite another unit in our building being on the market and the condo market having slowed down substantially. Matt set us up with a staging consultation that helped us to see our property objectively from a seller's eyes and guided us in making some strategic updates that would show the property in its best light. Alyse handled the open house and showings wonderfully, and the system of text alerts for any showings and changes made our lives much easier.
