I was scared to death to come here for a root canal. My dentist sends everyone to him for root canals and my dentist said 2 or 3 times that he's not the nicest guy but he's good at what he does. Well isn't that just craptastic? I don't know about you but anyone that sticks a drill in my head...I'd kinda like to feel comfortable with. And then I saw the not so great reviews on him at Google. Now I'm seriously freaked out. But he takes my insurance and my dentist really wants me to go him. Just got done and I gotta tell ya, no big deal. Dr. Berg isn't a chatty cathy by any means but he explained what he was going to do thoroughly . From start to finish I was in and out in 45 minutes. Not too shabby for a broken back molar in need of a root canal. It was super helpful that he told me to close my eyes and that I needed to raise my hand if I needed him to stop or if I was in pain. His staff were very nice and totally efficient as well. I certainly hope I don't need another root canal in the future but if I do, I will definitely go back to Dr. Berg. read more

I went in for a root canal. He told me that he couldn't do it and that the tooth needed to be pulled. I found out later that I could actually get a root canal, so he gave me incorrect information. The cherry on top, this prick billed me $80. Trash. read more

I had the same experience as Lori. He missed a canal, but told me I should just wait for the pain to "settle down". I went back twice over a period of a year -- the pain never went away. Each time I went back he was rude and dismissive, a complete jerk. I finally went to another endodontist, so I had to pay for the same tooth twice. He is, as some other reviewers have noted, very fast in his work. But he's not thorough. I won't be using him again. read more

If you don't need to be friends with your endodontist, this is the guy for you. My teeth are crap and I've gotten three root canals. This guys is amazing. I walk in experiencing pain, he numbs me up, and I leave pain free and able to chew again. He always runs through every possible scenario before he starts drilling (which always thoroughly freaks me out), but it always ends up perfectly fine. Yes, he can be a crab, but I really don't care if it means he is good at fixing my tooth. read more

This man was rude. He told me he did not know if I needed one or two root canal (is he not the expert), but that I needed to go home and think about the second one. How the heck should I know? He was condescending, telling me I would not understand why I needed TWO root canals instead on one. I walked out. You deserve a good bed side manner, take your money and insurance elsewhere. Not sure why my first review was removed but I had a terrible experience. The first thing that Dr. Berg told me was that the root canal was going to be tricky. He then, without care, stuck in the needle with novacaine (without deadening first with the a-qtip. Then, and here's where I got mad, he says, "you will feel this. You will have about 3 minutes of excruciating pain." There's no way I will be able to get that molar numb enough. Well, I stood up and took off my bib, walked out, called my dentist for another referral,called my insurance company and then balled by eyes out. This man scared me so bad! I was in sore for three days from the two novacaine shots! On another note, I went to another endodontist and there was NO PAIN during or after the root canal. read more

This guy made getting a root canal a breeze. The best thing he told me to do during the procedure was to close my eyes. I wanted to close my ears cuz of the scary drilling. When I felt woozy afterwards from the anaesthesia, he put a cool towel on my head & offered to help me to the sink to rinse my mouth. Doesn't talk much, but was really caring. I didn't even cry during the procedure with the exception of getting the shots to numb my mouth. read more

First of all, I was terrified to go in and get a root canal and talked to the nurse about it on the phone before I even went in and she reassured me that I would be in very good hands and everything would be fine, which helped a lot until I got there and had the experience I had. Dr. Berg was VERY rude. He didn't even introduce himself to me. He gave me the impression that he would have rather been cleaning up cow poop on a hot day than working on me. He asked how the tooth was and when I told him it was very sensitive he said "uh to what?!" and I said everything- pressure, hot, cold- everything. So he takes his tool and starts tapping all around my tooth, now- DID I NOT JUST MENTION HOW SORE IT WAS?! so he numbs me all up and usually they suction any Novocain that drips into your mouth while getting the shots- no he had me swallow it. So then he sits down and draws some crap picture, explaining in a very uninterested, bored tone how it was all going to go down and then hands me a consent to read while the numbing kicked in and while reading it the last sentence said something about being responsible for paying for the service on the day of the procedure unless otherwise arranged with the girls at the front desk. So I waited to sign until I could ask what the price was going to be and right at that time one of the girls came up to tell me I would owe $200, I explained that I didn't get paid until the following week and SHE suggested that I pay for at least half the service today and call back to pay the remaining balance and I agreed. She said that she would go check with the front desk to make sure that was ok and came back to tell me that I would have to reschedule. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! that's probably something that should be discussed BEFORE they have you back in their chair or BEFORE they start numbing you up. DO NOT GO TO DR. BERG!!! you will be VERY disappointed. Even if it weren't for the money issue, he is not a personable person. He was VERY rude and VERY unprofessional. read more

The worst experience of my entire life. Went in to get a root canal. I had missed two prior appointments due to work conflicts. When Dr. Berg saw me he did not greet me or say hello instead he said "So you missed two appointments" I apologized and tried to explain to him how crazy it had been at work and he interrupted me by roughly taking hold of my jaw and injecting the first dose of novocaine into my gum. When he injected the second dose of novocaine it felt like an electric shock in my jaw and I jolted in pain. I looked up at him and asked "What was that?" He rudely stated " I guess I got to close to your nerve" and walked out of the room. I had the strong feeling that it was not a mistake that he was to close to my nerve. I began to cry and one of the kind dental assistants gave me some kleenex. I cried through the entire root canal as the dental assistant blotted my tears. I felt violated and hurt by this doctor. I would not recommend him to anyone. Ever. read more

Not sure the negative reviews are fair. Went in this AM for a pretty complicated root canal / infection issue; my front tooth slightly overlaps my other front tooth. Dr Berg sat down with me, explained my condition and answered all of my questions. I explained I was a big baby and he did a great job of numbing the area and I felt little to no discomfort. He is truly an expert. During the procedure the entire staff seemed as if they were assisting. I'm a happy camper so far (still in pain) and am confident he can and will fix my issue. read more

Many are right that Dr. Berg is quiet and not a comedian. During my last root canal, I had him laughing. I simply asked him what it was like to do work on people who would rather be doing anything else, but sitting in his chair. But, this guy is the king of 25 minute root canals. His staff is great, and frankly I don't care about his personality. I'm not there to talk anyway. I've never had a problem and root canal 5 is next week. read more

I will start with a huge thank you to Dr Berg. I just completed my 2nd root canal in 5 yrs with Dr Berg. I am a 48yr old wimp, I always need more pain killer than most. I have learned this over time. I told anyone that would listen this very fact at this latest visit yesterday. His team listened. Dr Berg listened and said he would do any necessary tip or trick he has available. I was told to take a little walk and let the meds circulate. I did, it worked. He then drew out, on paper, what my situation was and what he was going to do. He explained my #31 had resorbtion and a deep root, but i would be ok. When he started he said "this is a booster", and gave me a little more. he put that rubber bridge thingy in. i had to deal with some dry mouth, no biggie. probably took 20 mins max as i had that deep root thingy he had to do some extra effort on. It was the most pleasant and quick experience, just like my 1st one with Dr Berg. I did exactly what he told me to do, and he did what he was supposed to do. i felt nothing, although the smell is a bit distracting it is unavoidable. At the end he said thank you and said i was a good patient, i told him he is a good Dr. Upon leaving they gave me a document titled "Now that root canal treatment is completed", it outlines what i should expect and who i can call if questions. This is my experience with Dr Berg, and it couldn't have been better. read more

Dr Berg missed a canal, then acted like I was the idiot when I tried to make a follow up appointment for the continued pain. Arrogant Berg said there was nothing wrong with my tooth. Had to have it redone by a competent endodontist, After Berg collected his fee, I had to pay for another root canal for the same tooth. You are playing Russian Roulette if you decide on this rude, arrogant, incompetent endodontist. read more

I went to Dr. Berg for the retreatment of two root canals. I was supposed to have one appointment and was referred by my regular dentist. Dr. Berg reviewed my X-rays, took X-rays of his own and said yes, he thought he could retreat them, no problem. I make another appointment to come back to begin work and am there for an hour and a half. He doesn't finish either tooth and tells me I will need another appointment. I am in significant pain over the weekend and ended up coming into his office that Monday morning, throwing up from the pain and swollen. Dr. Berg starts drilling on my tooth again and says he "can't save it" and I have to leave and go to the hospital to have it removed. At this point I am confused because Dr. Berg doesn't really talk to you, he kind of mumbles in your general direction as he walks away. I go to the hospital and am told I need a $5000 implant and my tooth removed and a screw placed THAT DAY. I had asked Dr. Berg if he could save the other tooth and he said yes. I went forward with the implant and returned to finish up the other with Dr. Berg the next week. Dr. Berg ended up needing TWO MORE 90 minute appointments to complete ONE root canal retreatment. THEN I return to my dentist to have the crown replaced on that tooth and they remove my crown only to tell me I have a hole in the back wall of that tooth and while they can try to "be heroes" and place a post and save the tooth - it will likely need to COME OUT. At this point I am livid. These teeth are on the same side and losing both of them dramatically changes what I would have chosen to do when I was consulting with the oral surgeon at the hospital! Now I have to go back to see that guy on Monday to figure out what the hell to do now. How is it possible that Berg is INSIDE my tooth FOUR TIMES and just misses a giant hole? Also, he apparently cracked my other tooth in half but didn't tell me! He just sent me to have it removed and they told me that it had been cracked at the surgeons! Do not go to this man. He's. It just weird, he's not reliably capable. read more

I went to Dr. Berg for a root canal evaluation on one of my back molars after about a year of complications with this tooth. He met with me and after he figured out what the problem was he said you definitely need a root canal, you want to do it right now? U was surprised by this offer since my appointment was only for a consultation and I had his last appointment time for the day. I asked how long it takes and he said 15 minutes; I'm pretty sure my jaw actually dropped at hearing this. I told him I was under the impression that it is a 2 hour long procedure to which he responded that it would take that long if my dentist did it but he's been doing them for 20+ years. So I decided to just get it over with to end the turmoil with this tooth. He warned me that the numbing shots were the worst part, which they were painful but worth it to be numb. As I was waiting for the medication to kick in his assistant came in and asked me if I'd had a root canal before and told me that it was not painful and I would be fine, which was nice because I was more than nervous. He came back and got right to work, I am not kidding when I say it took him no longer than 15-20 minutes and there was only one instance when I felt pain and I raised my hand and it did not happen again. He told me that mine was more difficult than he expected and that's why it took longer than 15 minutes. He then gave me a prescription for pain medication and an information sheet on what to expect. I left there and have had no tooth pain except the initial soreness of the procedure. This man is a root canal magician! His assistant told me that they have even had people come from out of town to get root canals done by him because of his reputation. This root canal was more comfortable than any filling I've ever had filled; I would highly recommend him to anyone. read more

I wish I could give less than an one star rating for the services I received, but unfortunately I have to give one. This is the first experience that I've had with a "professional" that has left me in tears of confusion and fury. I will say that the office staff was friendly enough for me, but Dr. Berg himself was a complete nightmare. I came to the office after breaking two teeth on an Olive pit. I came to see him as I had these teeth filled 2 separate times by my regular dentist and was still experiencing sensitivity to hot and cold and it is uncomfortable to chew on that side. Dr. Berg walks in and says "so what's the problem here". I explain to him that I had broken 2 teeth on an Olive pit and after 2 fillings things just aren't better and that I'm sensitive. His immediate reaction to that is "WELL I DON'T REALLY BELIEVE YOUR OLIVE PIT STORY." Are you kidding me? Why would I make up an excuse as to how I broke my teeth. I am instantly infuriated by this man. He then goes on to checking my teeth. He has me bite down on swabs and sticks to swabs and I'm doing what he says, but note that these actions aren't causing an reaction from me. My tooth pain isn't severe. Not a wincing pain, more of an uncomfortable pressure, which I told him. After he gets no reaction, he then moves onto his tool and starts tapping each tooth, still no reaction from pain. You can tell his impatience is kicking in now... he mutters to his assistant, "GET ME AN ICE CUBE." He checks several teeth with no reaction, until he reached my problem area. When he touched my teeth with the ice cube I immediately reacted and said "yeah that's where it hurts." Dr. Berg is then finished with his exam, grabs a pad of paper, and draws me a picture of my teeth. He tells me that from what he's done he can't diagnose my teeth. I'm confused as to why he cannot so I ask questions. He said that my teeth aren't responding how they would if blah blah blah was wrong. I then tell him that I need some sort of answer as to what I can do next. He says to me "WELL DO YOU WANT A ROOT CANAL" I'm bewildered by this question and say "No I don't want one, do I need one!?" He says he can't tell and then tells me he will prescribe me amoxicillin and Motrin for my pain AND THEN WALKS OUT OF THE ROOM. Just walks out. Im thinking maybe he's going to check something out or check on someone. No. He just left. His assistant then comes in and tells me I can follow her up front. By this point I'm in actual tears trying to figure out what just happened. I told the receptionist that I'm not sure what just happened but I'm not happy about my experience. She apologized and said "I'm very sorry but you're more than happy to get a second opinion somewhere." Well no shit. I will be getting a second option or at least AN ACTUAL OPINION elsewhere. This was a terrible experience and this man needs to work on a lot of things. Never have I felt this upset about an interaction with an professional adult. He basically called me a liar, told me he couldn't help me, asked if I WANTED a root canal, wouldn't tell me if it would help any problems and then left. PLEASE BE WEARY OF DR. BERG. If you want the best bed side manner, go somewhere else. If you want pain free fast expert root canals, go to Dr. Berg. He's done several of mine, 4 maybe? And he is so fast that last time I timed him. Seven - 7 - VII- minutes from injection to walking out the door. I told him about the 7 minutes, and he said, "Yeah, it was a little slow, but I went back in to make sure there were only 2 roots, not 3. Usually this tooth has 3 roots, yours only had 2." Wow, he's the best. Yes, the injection hurt a bit, he doesn't numb the site first, but only for a few seconds, and I didn't feel a thing afterwards. I've never felt any pain with any of the root canals he's done on me. As I say, take your pick, conversation or painfree and fast. read more

If you are referred to Dr. Berg for any reason, call your primary dentist back and ASK FOR ANOTHER REFERRAL!! Trust me. His bedside manner is awful!! He is impatient, extremely rude, and arrogant. Read his reviews on other sites. He takes multiple patients at once, rushes through each one, demeans you if you want clarification on treatment options, makes you feel as if you're wasting his time...etc. I left his office dumbfounded! I made an appointment with Dr Berg and after reading reviews I almost cancelled. i decided to see him anyway. My appointment was about a month ago. Dr Berg was pleasant not overly friendly but thats fine. He explained everything he did and was pretty fast and totally pain free except the sting of the shot. Horrible!! Had a root canal done there about a month ago and have had continuous pain in the tooth for the last two weeks! I went a week ago and he took another x ray of the tooth and said "I have no idea what's wrong it doesn't make any sense" and gave me another round of antibiotic. I went back this week, still having the tooth pain. He basically made me feel like I was imagining the whole thing and said "well there is nothing else I can do for you' you will have to just get a second opinion." He turned around and walked out of the room but not before taking the end of one of his tools and banging it on my tooth asking "does that hurt" yeah no shit it hurts that's why I'm here!! Do not ever go to him! I wouldn't send my worst enemy! read more

He was rude, inpatient and unprofessional. He did not want to use a topical anesthetic to numb the area prior to the shot. I was told I need to compose myself because I was anxious about him giving me a shot without a topical. I was anxious not hysterical. He then proceeded to give me the novocaine but did not give it time to work before proceeding. I told him repeatedly I could feel everything but he just continued on. Finally when I was putting an end to it, he said "I am having a bad day". I told him that does not instill faith in a patient when they hear their doctor say they are having a bad day. He put medicine in the canal, put a temporary over it and said to come back next week. I left just disgusted with how I was treated. He acted like it was my fault because I was complaining. My gums and jaw were more numb 3 hrs after the procedure than the entire time I was sitting in the chair. I was the last patient of the day and he obviously need to be some where else instead of giving the novocaine time to work. I have an appointment with another DDS this week to finish the job. read more

I was sent to Dr. Berg by my dentist. I was experiencing a lot of pain in my left jaw...my dentist took an x-ray of the tooth...said the results were not definitive, but that it probably was a cracked tooth. He said I probably needed a root canal. When I arrived at Dr. Berg's office, his assistant took an x-ray. Dr. Berg breezed in, barely acknowledged me, and said the tooth looks normal, but that it probably is a cracked tooth. And, he added quite arrogantly, I am RARELY wrong! He then said I needed a root canal, but that I could wait and see if the symptoms subside over time. I told him I was quite anxious and would probably need some sedation. He said he does not use gas or any other sedation. I was trying to explain to him my fears, and as I was talking to him, he was writing something. At that point, he handed me the paper and said, go home and think it over. I don't want to do it now anyway....then he walked out of the room. Guess what, Mr. I'm RARELY wrong...went to a wonderful dentist, and the tooth was INFECTED. I saw the xray and even I, as a lay person could see the infection on the film. Pretty scary, huh? Anyway, I found him to be arrogant, condescending...not traits I want in my dentist! Do not waste your time and money with this jerk. read more
