I go to Doctor Kathryn DiGiammarino and she is excellent. My favorite feature is that I can text them when I need something and always get a response during office hours. In the last year or so, though, the care we've received has gone downhill fast, mostly due to the new NP's my wife and I have both seen. The previous doc, PA, and NP at Prevene we saw were all knowledgeable but also took the time to listen and do a proper assessment. More often than not, they also thought through root cause possibilities rather than simply looking for a band-aid to slap on via meds or overly simplistic advice. Our last few appointments with the new staff was full of interruptions and more talking than listening, telling me the same thing you could find online or in a book. We'll be looking for somewhere new.

I came to the Fountain Hills ER during a period of profound confusion from total sleep deprivation…read more They only had access to an old psychiatric label and none of my neurological or sleep‑medicine history, so I was routed into the wrong system. Every neurologist and sleep specialist I've spoken to since has said my case clearly belongs in sleep neurology, not psychiatry. They did run a CT scan, which I appreciated, but after that they asked leading questions like "When was your last manic episode?" even though I've never met criteria for mania. In my impaired state I couldn't correct the assumption. They gave me medication that should have produced 6-8 hours of sleep, but I only slept for two, and I was still labeled "stabilized." My high blood pressure readings were ignored -- something that has happened to me in multiple hospitals. I've also found it nearly impossible to obtain my medical records from this visit. My experience wasn't entirely their fault, but it highlights a real blind spot in ERs: neurological sleep disorders are often misdiagnosed as psychiatric, and I was no exception.
