Dr. Chikwendu Chris Nwosu gaslit me throughout my entire appointment. He did not listen at all, he did not try to work with me and his tone was disingenuous + patronizing throughout the whole interaction. The practice tried to code in this appointment as my physical without my knowledge and had me fill out a form with aprox. 15 questions which this doctor let me know what considered a typical sufficient physical. Mind you, there was no actual verbal questions about my general health, about how my body was feeling, nor was there an actual physical exam. When questioned about this, he smiled, shook his head and walked out. Some of the NPs here are alright, but my general recommendation would be to avoid this practice. read more

This place is a business. Dont expect to be seen by people who actually care about you. They're here to collect checks and thats it. I'm going to change doctors immediately as I've had the last straw with this "organization". I thought it was great to be seen qucikly as a new patient, but I quickly saw how this was run. Prescriptions were given, but not sent in to pharmacies...and this happened multiple times with myself AND my wife. We had to call multiple times to have things sent in. I had my medical records transferred before seeing the provider, and when I got there and asked if he had them, well, of course he didn't. It never got sent to him. I literally asked the assistant to please make sure he has this so I can discuss some things with him, and she said no problem. And of course, he never got it. Also, in the rooms, you see signs saying "limit the problems to be addressed to 2 per visit". (see the attached picture I took of that sign at my last visit) I've never in my life seen a doctors office limit you to what you can ask about. Clearly they dont care about you and want to filter you through as qucikly as possible. Next issue I had....They have 2 locations in Mesa that are in the same parking lot. When I get to my appointment, I signed in with the woman, and I sat there in the waiting room only to find out that I'm supposed to be in the other building. But why dont they tell you this when you check in?! I asked to speak to the manager because I've had a few complaints about the way things are working here. The woman said if I'd like, she'd have them call me. I said "yes, please...thank you". Guess what? Yup...you're right in thinking that of course I never got a call. Next visit, which I have no idea why I needed to even come back so soon....but the doctor wanted to see me again (gotta collect that check)...so I go to the appointment. I was coincidentally having an issue with my hand, so I figured I'd ask him about it since I have an appointment already. He didn't even LOOK at my hand. He said that the injury I described can take some time to heal. Yeah, I read that too...but he didn't even look at my hand. At least examine something that someone has issues with. But no...of course not. He's gotta get to the next pay check. Durning that visit, he did refer me to a specialist for something unrelated....so after getting the referral, I call the place and guess what....the phone number is disconnected. Why am I being referred to place that you cant even give me accurate information for?!?! So....I call Stripes...ask them for a number that works. The operator gave me the SAME number. Come on people. This is ridiculous. Time and time again it's absolutely WAY below average with this company. I'm fed up with the lack of professionalism here. Oh, and speaking of professionalism....on this last visit, it seems the doctor had maybe his sons or family members being trained or something. I'm assuming this because they look like him and have the same sort of accent he does. But what was weird was, they're there shadowing nurses, I was told as interns....but what medical professional interns are walking around with patients, and they're wearing hoodies? It did not feel very professional at all. Felt like they were high school kids that were made to come to work and they didn't want to be there. It felt very weird. It made me think that they cant actually be medical students, but are probably being brought in to "work" the family business. It didn't seem right at all. This place just doesn't seem right. I'm getting away from Stripes ASAP. Time to find a legit practice, that actually seems to care about the patients. This seems like a giant scam of a medical business. On top of this...I had a medication refill sent in. It got hung up because it needed a prior authorization. So I call Stripes and ask them to have this prior auth sent in. They said no problem. Now 2 weeks later (almost a MONTH after initially filling my prescription) I call to see where my Rx is, and they STILL need a prior auth. This isn't even a question....this is BY FAR the worst medical practice I've gone to. This place is terrible. And my wife had the EXACT same issues with her prescriptions too. This is the WORST experience I've ever had with a medical place. Made an online appointment and then I called to verify everything with insurance and being able to do a simple physical and skin check. The person who picked up I couldn't hear bc their phone was so low and I had to repeat it multiple times before he fixed the volume. Then when I asked him questions, he didn't answer any of them and said he will book two appointments. That didn't sound right to me and but I booked it and decided to call another time to speak with someone else to verify. I called two weeks later and he picked up again and assured me that two appointments was what I needed. Then on the day of the appointment at 8:40, he calls and said they can't book two appointments and no we couldn't do the physical that day and it would just be a dr visit. All things I verified again and again with him prior to the appointment. I don't know where his office was at bc it wasn't at the physical office I was at. At the end, they did do the physical and canceled the skin check. It's now 1.5 hours after my initial appointment and still just waiting to get labs done. I've done physicals every year for years and never had this issue. I'm in and out of the drs office in less than 45 mins. This is the most terrible place I've ever gone for a simple physical. I will never go back and find an actual dr office to be my primary. Do not bother with this poor excuse of a provider. They do not answer their phones, nor do they ever return calls, and you cannot make online appointments. If you do manage to get an appointment, you will most likely not see the physicians, only the DNP, who is very nice, however, will most likely refer you to a cardiologist as she did with me and my 2 family members- and you will promptly be in receipt of thousands of dollars in bills from that provider from testing- there is clearly some type of referral kick-back going on here. These folks should be reported to the medical board for review, if they haven't already. read more

Last January I decided it was time to get a primary care doctor. I reached out to Stripes and got an appointment in three months as it was their earliest available time. I thought I would be seeing a PCP, but instead I was seen by a PA. When the blood work came back on my second visit she just skimmed through it without explaining anything to me until she got to my Triglycerides which she said were high and told me I would have to start taking medicine, of which she rattled off several options. I was still trying to figure out what Triglycerides were at that point. I asked her if there was any other suggestions she had beyond taking drugs, such as changing eating habits or exercising but said she could set me up with a dietician or I could Google it. Not the answer I was looking for. She made me feel like I was being rude to her when I asked questions almost as if I was screwing up her routine by being difficult. It was only later that I thought about it that I went from being worried about what was going on with my body to being just ticked off at the way my concerns were dismissed so out of hand. It's a short bridge between being knowledgeable for your patients welfare and having empathy for your patient, but it was a bridge she just couldn't seem to cross. Some may argue that her job wasn't to be empathetic, just give me the news. Perhaps that is correct, but what happened as a result was I just ignored her suggestion out of denial and anger and when I told her I wasn't interested in taking drugs he reaction was just like 'whatever'. I am on Crestor now, but not because they told me I should be. I am on it because another doctor who I respect and trusted took one look at that blood work and said 'Hold up, we need to talk about this.' It took him all of two minutes to help me understand the importance of managing it. I wish I could offer a positive spin on this, but I can't beyond saying that the people here may be super smart, and may know their business as the doc who later evaluated the blood work concluded. It's just a shame that the way they communicate with their patients inspires the opposite of confidence and in fact makes one wary of listening to them. read more

I started using Stripes as the doctors had good reviews. The issue there is that I have never seen the actual MDs, only the NPs. It's a month wait to get in with the real doctors. That's bad enough as it is. The first NP I saw a few years ago, after a 10 minute conversation, wrote in my chart that I had a disease that you need a test to diagnose AND that I have explicitly been told by 2 specialists that I do not have. She had no reason (nor, quite frankly, the qualifications) to put that as a diagnosis code. I have asked both the second NP as well as the medical assistants to remove it and they keep hemming and hawing and refusing to do so. Great. The second NP I have unfortunately seen twice now just likes to hear himself talk. I learned more about him than he did about me and was subject to a lot of interruptions when I tried to talk. I specifically asked him to send a sample not just for culture but for microscopy to check for kidney stones. He didn't do the latter. Nobody even called me with the results. What a waste of time. My other encounter with him was for tinnitus and ear pain. His response was literally "I have tinnitus from my military service, it's permanent, get used to it, it's not going away." Wow, thanks for the compassion. He then wanted to give me a steroid injection for the ear infection. My father-in-law is an actual physician and about blew a gasket when he heard about the steroid injection. Complete overkill for something minor. Guess what buddy, the tinnitus also went away. The MAs are almost always unpleasant. I feel like I'm inconveniencing them every time I call. Last week, it turned out they had been sending my referral to the wrong office repeatedly. One of them got extra rude and stated "Well I shouldn't even be giving you this referral anyway". What, are you the gatekeeper of healthcare now? I really despise this office and will probably be looking for a new PCP. read more

NO COMPASSION! New patient. I tell them on the phone I needed assistance for asthma and COPD. Cannot breathe, cannot wear a mask. I come in and I have paperwork issues as my wallet was stolen. I also told them this before making the appointment. I sat in the office for over an hour WITHOUT A FACE CONDOM. After an hour they tell me the doctor will not see me without a mask I advise them that the law says health issues override mask law and I told them when I made appointment that I could not wear a mask. I have been with Stripes for several years. Once the covid hit and the past few years after that, they went from pristine to poor. It had always been easy to schedule a quick visit to won't even answer the phone or calling back from a message left. They now claim they use a service to answer the phone and that they are in training but not only does this service not answer the phone, but they also don't return phone calls, ever. I used to get a copy of my annual lab work online in my portal, and now they don't do that. Snotty receptionist in the Apache junction office during my visit today. This isn't a medical practice. It's a medical business. They are only interested in checking the Medicare and supplemental insurance boxes needed for them to receive payment. During a "wellness check," if one answers yes to a question, the doctor will say that another appointment is needed to discuss that issue. Refilling prescriptions requires additional appointments. Blood work, of course, requires an appointment. Going over the results requires an appointment even if there are no issues, but follow-up bloodwork will be needed anyway. I was just called by their office and asked to make an appointment for a "wellness check." I declined for the second time and was told that they would have to report my declination to my insurance!! I've now gone to this clinic for almost 4 years. I'm almost 80 years old. My "wellness checks" have never included an electrocardiogram! read more

I have been going to Stripes Primary care for over 10 years. I go to the office in Apache Junction now. Started out with the Ellsworth office. Always has great great experience with Dr O & Dr. Chris. and the others. There is one that unfortunately is not a people person and has the bed side manner of I really don't like to saying anything bad. I first met her as a receptionist at the AJ office. very bad manners no personality at all. I'm sorry but I don't understand how they go from Receptionist to NP Her name is Yva Jean-Marc. I had a tele-visit with her and waited 1 hour & 30 min before she finally came on the line. I needed a refill on my meds. Told her the Pharmacy 2 twice she repeated it. Then she calls me back to ask which pharmacy. OMG I'm sorry. I love Stripes but this lady is not suited to be working with people. read more

As far as I can tell, the medical staff is great; however, the office and phlebotomy staff are either extremely short-staffed or extremely under-trained. Getting blood work at the Ironwood location is a joke. I sat in the office for close to 30 minutes and no one (literally zero people) were called, and I had approximately 10 people in front of me. Unfortunately, Stripes Primary Care seems to be a lot like most doctors these days: they are all about more tests and more profits, rather than diagnosing a problem and curing it. They would prefer to line the pockets of pharmaceutical companies rather than curing and serving their clients. It's not a bad place by any means - but it's not a great place either. In short, if I could find someone better, more reliable, and convenient, I would do it in a heartbeat. read more

You see many different providers each time , with no consistency. I made an appointment that was confirmed only to show up that day and the provider wasn't available . I waited an hour past my visit time. I was told walk ins would be seen first; despite my scheduled and confirmed appointment. I made another appointment with the doctor, logged in and found that way my appointment was "changed or canceled ". No communication. They have poor communication and poor scheduling. Yet when they come in as patients to a facility they expect us to drop what they are doing just because they are "special " and going on vacation. This is a very difficult Primary Care practice to deal with. There are so many people involved in everything that finding the correct person, making contact and getting answers is almost impossible. Moving to this practice from a much smaller one with excellent follow-up and personal interaction has been incredibly frustrating. My wife and I had initial visits which included standard labs (chemistry with cholesterol etc.). The office didn't call either my wife or me with lab results, even though we had abnormal values. The only reason I found out my results is through an autogenerated patient portal email (me). My wife called them several weeks after the labs were done to get results, but was told to come in. She requested access to her portal, which revealed she had several abnormal values. At no time did we receive a call from anyone. The new office is great, but the young woman at the front desk was brusque and dismissive. Can't get through to any of the office phones, told me my second appointment was at two places went to the one they called and said was at they closed at 5 even know appointment was at 520. So went with out blood pressure meds. I make another appointment finally and I was at appointment and waited I didn't know had outstanding balance I said would pay some of it. But couldn't do all never received bill yet. Well they wouldn't see me so I had to cancel since didn't have the entire amount I was behind on from first visit, left again with out blood pressure medicine and won't be back was willing to pay more than half of what was due! I love Dr. Onuoha, or Dr. O as we call her. Been going here for 2 years since moving from Calif. She always spends plenty of time addressing my concerns and is friendly and personable. I've recommended others to her and they all agree she's awesome. I've never had a problem getting an appointment, many times on the same or next day and they have Saturday hours as well. At times getting an appointment with Dr. O may take a week or two but, they have great Physician assistants available who are equally attentive and knowledgable. I have rarely had to wait more than 5-10 minutes in the waiting room and only moments in the exam room. The Ellsworth location has Sonora Quest lab onsite so I don't agree with Its M. review, claiming they don't do anything in house. I don't know any other doctor with this convenience available. My only complaint might be with the reception staff at both Ellsworth and Apache Junction. They need to smile and put more effort into greeting patients. Otherwise they do a good job. read more

I started going to Stripes for my annual exams a couple of years ago. I am fairly healthy needing two prescriptions and some screening test done. I am always compliant with the bloodwork/orders and follow up as advised. I scheduled an appointment online several weeks ahead of time so that I could cancel my own appointments and take the afternoon off to attend the appointment. Three days before my scheduled appointment, I received a confirmation stating I had a telehealth visit which would be hard to do considering I scheduled an annual exam including Pap. It took me several attempts to reach a real person but when I explained the problem, the scheduler tried to blame me for scheduling the wrong appointment. I had also already ran out of my medication and it had taken me several phone calls for them to send seven pills to my pharmacy until my annual exam was planned. Once she realized the mistake was theirs, she told me she would change my appointment to an "in person" appointment and to keep the time as scheduled. The DAY BEFORE the appointment, however, I received a voicemail stating that my appointment would need to be rescheduled because the provider was "not gonna be in the office" that day. This is after I had already cleared my own schedule and made several calls regarding the appointment & my medication refills. I called at least five times and left messages to talk to someone to reschedule and no one ever returned my phone call no bother to apologize for what they had done. Now I'm out of my medication, have no appointment and have no availability for the next 2 to 3 months in my own schedule available for the exam. I am extremely disappointed with the way this was handled and will be seeking another practice as soon as possible read more

Almost 3 years with this practice and even though I was an active member in my care they simply do not listen nor do they care. I made an appointment through Zocdoc with NP Joshi. I even called after to confirm it. An hour later the girl at the front desk called me to reschedule because I was double booked with another patient. I told her I cannot reschedule because it's my only day off. She spoke with the provider and the provider said she would see me if I came in right at 1pm. So, I said okay that's fine. I went in and the two girls up front were very unpleasant. And the one I checked in with handed me new paperwork then said I had to change my PCP with my insurance or I wouldn't be seen @ 1. Why didn't they say or explain this when they called me before? I wasted my time to drive there just to be told they wouldn't see me. It's very unprofessional especially coming from someone that works in the healthcare field for 9 years. I'm sure the providers are wonderful but the two ladies in the front need to take customer service classes and have more empathy. They could at least smile when the patients check in. read more
