Do not listen to the complainers in this world. Listen to those that went through hell and came back on the other end. Dr. Getelman is an exemplary physician. Do you want pleasantries with inadequate skills or do you want exemplary skills without the coddling. I can not begin to express how well I am healing, how 'BBEAUTIFUL" my scar is or how well I have been looked after. If you want your hand held, go elsewhere, he is a doctor who does beautiful work with a staff that gives you everything you need and more. I would give ZERO stars! This Dr is rude, demeaning, arrogant, unprofessional and disrespectful! Every bad review NAILS this man's character! When he asked me a question he expected a full answer, but if I tried to speak or clarify anything he would immediately cut me off. However, if I ever spoke while he was talking or tried to ask a question, he became angry and threatened to cancel the appointment. The double standard was shocking. He completely ignored my good leg that has been having its own problems from compensating for months. He also kept pushing "pain management" even after I told him multiple times I wasn't currently in pain -- my pain only happens when the hamstring is stretched. Instead of listening he made me feel dismissed and blamed for my injuries. I left the appointment CRYING. I have never been treated so poorly by a doctor. His ego was out of control and his bedside manner was nonexistent. In the end he actually did me a favor. His horrible attitude made me look elsewhere and I found an excellent doctor (Dr. Nima Mehran) who actually listens and treats patients with respect. I would never recommend Dr. Getelman to anyone. I took my mother to a consultation with Dr. Getelman and from the moment he walked in he didn't even say hello, this guy walked in like he was some kind of prince or some shit. He pretty much let her know she just had arthritis and needed a wedged shoe when we were sent to him due to a tore meniscus and a knock knee. He was definetly not what we were expecting, but neither are we surprised on his arrogance and entitlement. It's rare to find a good doctor that actually listens and empathizes great bed side manners which he definetly lacked aswell. The only good experience we had in this office was the medical assistant, she was great but the rest of the staff including the doctor lacked empathy and competency. I was referred to Dr. Getelman by my pain management physician, who's wife had just had a successful shoulder surgery by Dr. G. He praised Dr. G as being the BEST surgeon in the country. I had my rotator cuff surgery in November 2025, and it was a success with fast recovery. I was happy with the office staff and had a very positive experience. Coming from a family of Drs and surgeons, I know their bedside manner isn't always the best. However, I had a great experience with Dr. Getelman all around, and recommend him 1000%! read more

I was recently referred to Dr Getelman by my SCOI MD (Dr. Vassilev who is amazing!) I had a MRI done that showed both an ACL tear and a torn meniscus. When Dr G told me that he did not see anything wrong on the MRI and that I could "resume my daily activities," I was floored. I started sobbing in his office and told him I could barely walk. He said he would give me a shot of cortisone and that I should follow up with him 6 weeks later. No empathy, no concern, no plan, just put a band aid on the pain which always makes things worse. It is nice to see some validation of my feelings by reading others' reviews of him. I currently have an appointment with Dr. Tchejeyan next week to get a second opinion. read more

I could not agree more with everyone who reports the Dr. Getelman is a complete arrogant narcissist who cannot wait to leave the room. He will give you about 5 minutes or less and not give you any time to discuss anything. He literally never even fully entered the room for my last visit and spoke to me with his hand on the door handle the entire 3 minutes of my appointment. I have seen on the google reviews that his office has time to respond to negative feedback...they just won't respond to you in person. I find that interesting since I sent him a message right after my last visit expressing how upset I was and never heard back...guess I would have gotten a response if I had just posted it on his google page. read more

I went to Dr Getelman after seeing 4 other shoulder drs over 4 years. They couldn't agree on diagnosis or treatment and left me in pain and confused. Dr. Getelman identified the actual problem, developed a treatment plan and 2 years post surgery I have full use of my arm and no pain. read more

I highly recommend Dr.Getelman. My mother had an extremely positive experience with Dr. Getelman's care so I scheduled an appointment with him for follow up of a shoulder injury. He explained findings on imaging along with treatment options that were understandable. Post op instructions were thorough and to the point. Both Dr.Getelman along with his PA's called me after surgery to make sure I was doing okay. I also found his office to be organized, efficient, and helpful. I was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos syndrome 15 years ago, my mother was diagnosed in the 90s, my grandmother great great grandmother and two aunts also have it. I went in for a shoulder surgery because I have a slap tear & keep dislocating. He decided to do the beighton test on me. I have type 1 not hypermobile! Because I couldn't touch my thumb to wrist he decided I don't have eds...... I didn't come to him for a diagnosis but a shoulder surgery consult! It's extremely ignorant to try and change someone's diagnosis of a genetic condition! Would NOT recommend to any eds patients or women because of his ego!!!!! read more

Dr. Getelman preformed an ACL repair on my knee after I tore it playing sports. It has been 2 years since the surgery and his work has shown 10 folds. I really can't thank him enough for giving me my athletic lifestyle back. I am back to playing sports and one in particular at a collegiate level. I just completed a triathlon and my knee did not just hold up, I had no pain. Tearing your ACL is never easy and the rehab process is tough but it could be for nothing if the surgery isn't done properly. I thank Dr. Getelman for a job well done! read more

I agree with the negative comments previously posted. They are entirely consistent with our experience with Dr. Getelman. We consulted him with our son for advice and a second opinion for long-term, disabling knee pain for which we have been unable to get a clear diagnosis. He took no personal interest in helping, and was insulting, cold, arrogant, and completely uncaring in the way he dealt with us. This doctor is awful to deal with. Does not listen to your concerns, does not think outside the box. Is rude, condescending. Treats the nurses poorly. I've since had to have my knee done again because his workmanship was poor. It turns out I had a ruptured ACL likely because of his treatment either that or he missed it entirely . He wouldn't MRI it, told me I was being dramatic. Encouraged me to go back to running on it. Told me it "was going to hurt, get over it." Is dismissive of your concerns especially if they disrupt his statistics. Cares more about his outcome statistics than his patients. I would suggest SCOi replace him but I realize he's part of the SCOI fabric. Yet another reason to dislike SCOi. This callous individual is who is deterring your health and well being. Dr Getelman has done two prior knee repairs on me over the last decade plus. My knees have never been better and true to his word, I have been running on them again for 10+ years. Today I saw him again for yet another knee issue, completely different from the past two. He quickly evaluated my status from the x rays, and gave me multiple treatment options. He is a matter of fact type of Dr which I respect. He spent as much time as I needed to answer all my questions. His PA was excellent and very helpful. read more

I broke my shoulder in a bicycle riding fall. Dr. Getelman came highly recommended as surgery was required to bring the bone back together to heal properly. Dr. Getelman and his staff certainly lived up to this high expectation. My surgery has gone extremely well and although the healing process is lengthy I am right on track. In a medical environment that is often times "factory like" and impersonal, he and his staff have been rather attentive in addressing my needs. read more

DO NOT GO!!! Mark Getelman is the most obnoxious, arrogant and pompous Jerk that I have ever met. I just saw the reveiw above and can't agree more. He has a horrible bedside manner and has no interest in explaining anything. Our daughter tore her PCL and he couldn't be bothered to answer our questions. I didn't understand why he kept saying that it would "heal" since ligaments don't really heal. When I asked him about it, he said " I'm not feeling real warm and fuzzy from you". I have never been so insulted by a physician. As I asked a few other questions because were concerned about his recommendation, He angrily said we could and should get another opinion before he stormed out of the room. Dr. Getelman is a great doctor and I highly recommend going to see him. I recently sprained my MCL (grade 2 sprain) playing basketball and Mark was extremely patient with me and offered me great advice on how I can get back to playing basketball. Mark gained my trust with his thorough explanation of my x-rays and MRI report, and his entire staff at SCOI was also very knowledgeable and helpful. I waited over an hour to be seen because the office was incredibly slow in offering paperwork for patient history. Then when the doctor finally shows up in the office, he doesn't even look at and address me in the face. He speaks to me over his shoulder as if I'm his kid. Then he proceeds to ask me a question he already knows the answer to regarding whether I'd had prior surgery on my knee. Then he slammed the door when he left the office. I was there well over two hours because he and his office don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. His diagnosis of my knee was exactly the opposite of what one of the finest sports medicine doctors in LA gave me. I recently underwent shoulder surgery with Dr. Getelman. He was very straightforward and honest with his approach to my current condition. His diagnosis was perfect. He was very conservative in his approach and when the conservative care didn't improve my condition, I opted for surgical intervention. He explained what needed to be accomplished during surgery and I was extremely pleased with the information he provided. Based on my outcome I find him to be a highly skilled surgeon. This guy was impatient and worried about keeping his schedule. He spent little time with me and left me with no diagnosis and a bunch of BS because he didn't want to take the time. I went in for Knee and Shoulder. He refused to look at my shoulder. A complete waste of time. When I was leaving I said "so for the record... you don't have time to look at my shoulder?" He replied "well, we can only deal with one issue at a time." He didn't even look at the MRI I brought in. I could see in his eyes that he didn't give 2 craps about me.
