If I'm a little over-the-top in my review, I hope you'll understand. It seems like *every* time I get something repaired I get taken, and I finally found someone honest. Wait, what? Yeah. An honest person. I called him to fix a Whirlpool washer and he showed up when he said he would, had all the parts and tools to fix the problem, and he was inexpensive! It's such a simple thing to have someone you can rely on and I'm thrilled that there's someone like that close by who's competent. He even had me check something before coming out to make sure it wasn't a simple DIY repair, and gave me a free, spare drier hose after seeing my kinked old one. Two thumbs up! read more

This is a review about Mr, Houck's lack of professionalism. I left a voice mail message about a broken washing machine on Thurs, and got a call back on Friday. (He apparently does not have anyone taking calls for him for same day contact.) After I explained the issue, he was ready to come out to make the repair then UNTIL he discovered where I lived, which is a condominium building. He then said he couldn't help me, as the parking for my building was too much trouble and would slow him down. I tried to explain there was an easy parking solution right next to the elevator that leads to right outside my unit, but he talked over me and very reluctantly offered to come out late Monday afternoon. I had clothes to wash and little faith in his showing by that point, so we parted ways. I called another service who came out within 2 hours and completed the job in 30 minutes, including the 2 minute walk from the truck to my unit. Mr. Houck may be very competent at repairs -- his other reviewers indicate as such. But in my experience, he also rudely turns down business he THINKS may be inconvenient. That is certainly his right, but there are more polite and professional ways to do that, e.g. referring another service who would be a better fit. read more

Based on the previous Yelp reviewes, I called Mark to service our dishwasher; it was makinf a loud clicking noise. He asked me the make and I said I thought it was a Kitchedaid or Fridgaire...I wasn't sure (I was calling from work). When he arrived, I walked into the kitchen took one look at the dishwasher and said, "It's an LG...that was important to know!" He then walked out without another word. He never said why...was it because he dosen't work on LGs; was he coming back with different parts...he just left! Based on this lack of professionalias, I wouold NEVER recommend him to anyone. read more

You wanna know how honest this guy is--Recently, I experienced a problem with my washing machine--it would not fill properly. I left a description of the problem on his voice mail and he promptly called me back. During the discussion he described what the problem is likely to be and I could fix it myself very easily. The problem was the tub would not fill all the way on the "super" cycle--he said, check the drain hose as it is likely too far down the drain pipe. Guess what, he was 100% correct. I was ready to pay ~$100 for a service call, plus any other repair costs. He solved it with a polite tip over the phone. Would I use him again--absolutely, but I no longer live in the area he services. Those in Dekalb/Gwinnett should seriously consider Mark for your appliance repair. If someone is this honest you can rest assured you will only pay for the actual work needed to solve your application problem. read more

Two part review: 1) Insinkerator broken - came promptly and replaced, fair price, great service, friendly guy - would have received 5 stars for this BUT, a few months later: 2) Washer component of our Kenmore laundry center started smoking badly during the rinse cycle and didn't work thereafter - Mark came promptly and said it was a problem with the belt. He put a new belt on, and the washer worked for about 3 cycles after this and broke again. I called him back and he told me it must be a problem with the transmission and the "cure" for the problem was new washer. No discussion generated from him about refunding all or part of his fee, which would have been reasonable as he did not really fix anything. Now we have a very nice, expensive new stackable HE washer/dryer set. So in summary, nice guy, may be good for small jobs, but I wasn't impressed with his actual service of our large appliance. Mr. Houck came by Monday night after 9:30 pm which is way too late to make a service call that someone has been waiting on all day. He and a "student" looked at the washer, removed a part, claimed to identify the "shortage", claimed he could save us a lot of money by repairing instead of replacing the part. Mr. Houck took the part, claiming he would return it repaired the next morning. It is now Wednesday morning. My husband and I have called and left at least 10 messages, in addition to numerous attempts this morning. Mr. Houck has not bothered to return our part or retun any of our phone calls. Unless he has DIED, this behavior is totally unexcusable!!! My next step is to call the POLICE!!! read more

My refridgerator broke Tuesday night, and I had to rush to the store to purchase dry ice to save my food. i also found reviews of repairmen I could call, and I happened on reviews of him and his service. He called, and got an indication from what was wrong and asked if he could come by and inspect the appliance. he came within the time frame said, and gave me the charge for the visit and the charge each part of an hour. I was very impressed by Mr. Houck. He didn't work for an appliance company,so there was no recommendation by Mr. Houck to buy another refridgerator. He posted his charges and estimates and stayed within that range. He also wasn't one of those repairmen that used a rate book that locks the consumer into charging you for a specific amount of time for a specific repair, whether or not he actually took that amount of time. For this reason, I loved the service from Mr.Houck. He is honest and a throwback to trusted repairmen of yester-year. Mr. Houck also cleaned up some debris that had accumulated around the vents of the refridgerator as well. read more
