I only brought my car to Mark Miller Subaru in Sandy to make sure no other damage had been done after an oil hose was chewed through by my dog trying to get to a rodent. Instead, Matthew Hansen told me my 95k-mile car needed up to $17k in repairs, then offered to "help" by buying it for $600 (saying the dealership would only give $200). He even sent me a staged video of a "leak" and later texted me from his personal phone. I took my car to Doug Smith Subaru instead -- they found none of the issues after the simple hose replacement. My car runs fine. This was manipulative, dishonest, and felt downright criminal. I'll never go back and strongly warn others to stay away. read more

SERVICE DEPT REVIEW Scheduled an appointment yesterday for a servicing this morning. Easy booking through telephone customer service. We were assigned to Ben - Ben was on top of it and communicated through text message. Great service. Came on Black Friday (around 8:30am) and it was not busy at all! Had a general inspection, tire rotation, fluids etc done - about $150. It was super fast - maybe 45 min. My car is in good shape so nothing huge found on the inspection. Ben was honest and thorough on what I would need to have done next time. Also, they have a nice waiting area with a little cafe. If you don't want to sit around, Southtown area is a nice place to walk, and Scheels and other stores are really close. Lots to keep you busy while waiting for your vehicle. read more

READ THIS FULLY AND LOOK AT THE IMAGE. I would give them -5 stars if I could. ZERO STARS. I should have taken this location's reviews more seriously. The real kicker is that this could have been a 10/10 experience. ALL I NEEDED WAS AN OIL CHANGE. If you can't even do a simple oil change that you OFFER to new customers, what is the point of going through a nice, main dealership like yours? Where to start? I just bought my outback from this dealership and received a punchcard with a few complimentary oil changes. I took it in for the first oil change on 7/11 and they performed that, a multipoint inspection, and tire rotation. I must say, at first, the service mechanic was more or less pleasant, and said he'd have our car done within an hour. At that point, I mentioned my punch card for the complimentary oil change OFFERED BY THEM WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR. His entire demeanor changed IMMEDIATELY. Smile gone, it was a complete 180 on his attitude. He then said that our car would take "a hour or more" So now that I'm using your COMPLIMENTARY card, it's no longer a priority? Before I took my car in, I had ZERO ISSUES. Everything was working great, we JUST needed an oil change. All that to say- after the service our AC DOES NOT WORK. We checked our coolant tank- EMPTY. Completely empty. We called back and tried to take it in but weren't able to get an appointment until today. Even with our appointment today, our coolant tank is still only half full and the AC ISNT WORKING ANY BETTER. They wanted to charge us $400 to have someone run a diagnostic on the AC to figure out what's wrong with it. Considering my car was fine before I took it here, I am 100% convinced they did something to my car so I'd have to bring it back in and pay for that diagnostic. This entire experience has been SO SHADY. Aside from my AC not working anymore, they forgot to put on my caps on two of my tires, so we were running around with two bald tires for a week and a half. Honestly, you are better off taking your car ANYWHERE ELSE. I should have believed the reviews when they said they will make problems for you here so they can fix them. I am VERY disappointed with Sandy Subaru. Furthermore, when they sent us a review for the service, when you fill it out it bounces right back to sender and says the address is not found. They don't want to know what people think and they certainly don't want any future customers to know what you think. I just opened my hood to check it out myself and lo and behold. WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED. And since my photos keep getting censored- the mechanic wrote the full N word under our hood. Not a, not ar, ER. FULL BLOWN N***ER. I was desperate after working a lot of two days to try to get the rear gate on my Forester to work. On my drive across the country it had stopped working at all. After reading the voluminous manuals and looking on-line, I had finally removed a small access door on the inside of the door. With a long umbrella and contorting my aging body at its limits, I had been able to manually open the latch. I couldn't see 3 days across the U.S with a full load and no way to open the rear gate. I pulled into the dealership at opening time about an hour ago. Sarah, the Service Advisor, gave me the news that they were fully booked today, but she took pity on me, and went out to look at it. She pushed the switch. It beeped--then stubbornly mocked her (as it had me for all the hours I had tried to fix it). But Sarah patiently held the outside button for what seemed like a full minute. Then, as if by magic, the car surrendered, and the tail gate OPENED! I couldn't believe it. I realized that, if push came to shove, I could drive back to Florida and get it repaired there. But the car wasn't done. It started urgently beeping when I tried to drive it (with no explanation on any of its screens). Sarah told me that if I would wait, they would be able to look at it later and see what the car was trying to tell us. She then told me that they would prepare breakfast while I waited. Fay (a lovely young woman with a great attitude) made me a more-than-ample-size delicious bacon, ham and cheese scramble. But it ain't free. $5 [for what would be $15 to $23 in any restaurant today]. In short: if you want to find out what Heaven is going to be like, buy a Subaru and take it to Mark Miller for some exotic repair. Oh! And hope Sarah and Fay are working that day. read more

Brought in my 2020 Forester to diagnose a problem. Because the car had a branded title, Mark Miller charged me $400 to diagnose the problem. Eventually they recommended a new part that cost $1100. It did not fix the problem. So after spending $1500 in repairs at Mark Miller and still not having a running car, I ended up towing my unrepaired car away. They don't care that you spend a bunch of money for nothing - its just policy to charge for a part once it's installed, even if it doesn't fix the problem, and its policy to charge $400 to diagnose branded title cars. read more

** Mark Miller Subaru does not work on Subaru tuned ** If you bring your car in and address any issues they automatically will charge you full price for diagnostic and repairs regardless if other Subaru dealerships honor the warranty. Mind you my Subaru has an ECU update tune to compensate for the air intake and pipe change to prevent check engine light. Tranny had issues and they wanted to charge me $480 to simply look at it and then to tell me repair cost will be $5k. Don't tow your car here. Go to other Subaru dealerships. They told me I need to replace me ECU in order for my car to be worked on $1.2k but because they have a history of my ECU being tuned, even if I changed it or reverted the software in the ECU it would be unethical to honor my warranty. Huh? Why would I want to change my ECU to be charged full price for the tranny? Mark Miller is one of those dealerships you can tell has a service repair quota that they push hard and try to charge you for additional service. My interaction doesn't end there. When I got my car back from Mark Miller after decline their ridiculous service, they forgot to reset my windows and disconnected my dash cam. When I called to ask them about it, they tried to tell me it was easy to do over the phone. My thought was if it was so easy, why didn't the service tech forget to take care of these during diagnostics? Mind you for this diagnostics I was charged $80 which means I paid for a service and the service sucked. What does my dash cam have to do with my tranny? Why was it necessary for your service tech to tamper with my dash cam attached to my upper windshield If you are a smart consumer I would definitely stay away. The service team needs to learn what service means as they have no empathy or compassion when they speak with the customer. My wife who interacted with the service tech said he was rude and spoke to her like she was ignorant and stupid. This alone pissed me off. Previous experience with other Subaru dealerships in Washington State and Utah, no issues with my basic tune as they know it did not effect the actual drive train. Probably my last Subaru I ever buy again. The car market is way to competitive to allow pompous workers to treat customers like garbage. lol read more

Took my 2000 Outback in for an electrical glitch. We received the diagnosis and quote on a Monday morning that it needed a bulk head harness which would run me over $3K. I obviously declined the repair in order to get a second opinion. Another tidbit of information, two of our wheels and tires were stolen over the weekend while the car was in their care. Frustrated with the situation I asked the service writer what my options are. They called me back less than 30 minutes later and told me one of the mechanics would be willing to give $400.00 as is! I'll bet he would given we just put a $1,400.00 stereo in it and have taken exquisite care of it over the past 25 years. Once I got past the first sales person who oddly wouldn't give me the time of day after I asked a simple question, everything was awesome! Patrick approached us shortly after the first salesperson and he was informative, not pushy and great to work with. Go see Patrick! My daughter ended up buying a new Outback and I followed 2 weeks later and purchased one as well! The only issue I have had outside the first poor salesperson was that I contacted the SLC location about the availability of a vehicle because Patrick was off and even though I ended up buying that vehicle and had made it clear I was working with someone, I am still getting calls from various sales people to the point I have had to block them. The general crew at Southtown are great and I would imagine the culture at the SLC location are as well trained but a little overly persistent :o). read more

They said this wasn't covered under my warranty because I had an after market auto start installed... over a year ago, with recommendation from the car sales person when I said I wanted that feature. She said it was cheaper to do it after market and "knew a guy". I get that it was after market but this happened a year later. What I'm really giving one star for is that I scheduled an appointment a week in advance with exactly what the problem was in the details. No one bothered to call me and tell me it wouldn't be covered and I took time off work to make this appointment. I usually only leave reviews of 5 stars because I believe in the "Thumper principle" but thought other buyers might want to be aware of what their sales people are doing to unload the cars they have, not the cars people actually want. read more

The service department here is excellent. I'm regularly in Salt Lake and recently had an issue with the infotainment screen in my '23 Outback while on a long road trip. When I called at 8am, I was immediately given an appointment within the hour. Bri in the service department quickly took care of an update for the infotainment system without any issues. This is the second time in a month where the service department came through last second. Before this, they got me a roof rack crossbar 5 minutes before they closed on a Saturday. I bought my Ascent from here October 2021. October of 2022 comes along and I have my trunk failing to open with the button in the front. All I get is a high pitch beep that won't stop or reset from the front or the back reset buttons. My trunk also will not open at all. My husband disconnected the battery to make the beeping stop. I take it in and they "fix" it for $100+ while I continue to have issues with my trunk for months afterwards. Each time it's $100+. October 2023 comes and the SAME issue occurs. I ask how much to fix it and she tells me it's at least $80 to just take a look at it. I've never had a car in my life have this many issues with a trunk beep that I keep having to pay repeatedly to fix. I don't know what an issue this small is costing me over $300 to get "fixed" and it's becoming an annual thing. I'm done. read more

It is always scary buying a new vehicle, someone is always telling you a certain car is better, trying to convince you should choose what they think is better for you. I have had several Subaru Wrx Sti's and my 18 Sti I wanted to sell because I have already finished my vision for her, and it is time to start fresh. So, I been around to a few different dealerships and they have all tried to play me as a fool, and tell me things that I know is not true, I again bought several Subie's before, so I am not stupid. I almost gave up but then I found the subie I wanted and it was about an hour away in Sandy, so I decided to call for a sales manager and not a regular sales person. I got ahold of Pete, he heard me out, my wants, and concerns, and I felt comfortable right off the back, he didn't give me no BS or lies and he didn't up-charge at all, he gave me a great deal, I have gotten a few different quotes and lies from other dealerships so I was happy and shocked that Pete was so real and honest with me. I told him the car I wanted, and he told me it was 7 days out from being delivered to his dealership. I was excited, and I already called my bank and got approved and told Pete this and he walked me through everything, and gave me some awesome deals, and discount things for me. He also got me Clearbra and Tint, and really made me feel like family and welcomed. He got me over to Jerry (VIA PHONE) who is one of the finance managers, he asked me questions went over the deal and then told me I was good and once the car got there he would call me to get me in to sign some stuff and I would be the new owner of a 21' STI. A week later once I got to meet Jerry he walked me through everything and I signed some stuff and we were done, and I was on my way to talk to Pete again. As I was there with Pete he introduced me to Todd who works with Pete and he waited with me and helped me with things, he was very friendly and outgoing and really made me feel good as well. He even was able to tell me new stuff about my STI and helped with Starlink. I had a great experience with Mark Miller Subaru- South Towne, I will defiantly be returning to them, and will always recommend Pete and Todd and Jerry to anyone who I know who needs a great car buying experience. As if my review would make any difference anywhere... Yes, I'm a cynic and a curmudgeon. Don't listen to a thing I say. I'm mostly 2/3 anti-Subaru, 1/3 anti-this place and my experience with this place and the high school cheerleader that called me with my estimate then texted a link to accept or reject the service order which included the non-refundable $130 diagnostic fee which made my total $130 more than the actual estimate which resulted in my decision to refuse the service, only to change my mind when her error was corrected. (Run-on sentence much?) Also that diagnostic fee was literally quoted and invoiced as three or more different figures. Verbally, that link to the estimate to the final invoice and at least one other place in between. Yes, please add another trip to your service bay to get this fixed because I've got nothing else to do but go through all of this again! Then there's Subaru, a somewhat stylish and waaaay over-rated vehicle that has a known issue turning the vehicle off and the ignition not letting you remove the key. Reddit has dozens of posts, Subaru forums have dozens of posts and Subaru has issued service bulletins about it yet not a single recall. Honda and Toyota are better vehicles, in spite of lacking a bell or whistle here or there. I like Mark Miller because he's a liberal. I'll go to Nate Wade next time I want a dealership service experience. read more

MMS was hosting a free pet adoption and I stopped by to see the pups (they had kittens too) available for adoption by NUZZLES & CO to see all the adorable babies available as my friend was at work, so I was able to send pics and send info of what's available. The event seemed to be a bit and we'll organized. They also had my favorite photographer there from @fuzzy_love_photography. Of course I cad my pup in tow dresses up in her costume to see how the pups interacted with her. Mark Miller Subaru in Sandy has great employees too. Basic service fees are just needlessly expensive at this shop while the quotes + service recommendations are hard to trust. Their vehicle service history system is useless even from service at other Subaru locations. Every visit I feel like I probably paid too much. They do do repairs, but $$$. I brought a service coupon to my last visit which they said they honor if I pay for full recommended repair. Right, well, they recommend a lot so it costs more to use the coupon at all. I asked them to diagnose wheel vibration which turned out to be worn tires. That's fine but they strongly recommended changing a "dirty" air filter, cabin filter, oil and oil filter, battery corrosion at a steep price. BUT, I had filters and oil changed only weeks prior, I did it myself with genuine Subaru parts. The filters were not freaking dirty. It only takes minutes for them to check the filters and oil condition before a recommendation. I'll be nice and say they're only lazy but I wonder. I'm done with them. There are other genuine, fairly priced mechanics out there. Or I'll roll w ChrisFix and save time and $$. Mark Miller team is just churning long appointments and charging fees. read more

This review is about the sale process. The initial salesman was easy going and low pressure and was able to help my wife and I to find the right vehicle for us. He was a great salesman. After you agree on prices though be ready to get the worst sales pitch from the back room on everything from extended warranties and addons that will take at least an hour. I honestly left feeling they will say I told you so if I didn't extend my warranty. It gets better modern cars need your details (email and phone numbers) to let you get updates from the car and manufacturer. Well expect to get hit up with tons of sales emails too... I have not needed to bring it in for service yet but I am weary that it's as bad as some reviews lead me to believe. read more

I've trekked through waist-high snow to dealerships after I crashed a car in college, I've had the hookup from a neighbor in the finance department, and I've more than once walked away in disgust after dealing with "that kind" of salesman. Truly, I had a really great experience at Mark Miller Subaru and even though I didn't end up purchasing a car from them, it was good enough that I need to tell you about it. I was researching Subarus as an AWD alternative to trucks that would still let me adventure in the backcountry, and was curious about the different models, options, and prices. So I came in on a wet evening to see if anyone could answer my questions. I met with a fella named Jason and he sat patiently as I asked a bajillion things. We went through the floor models, he let me climb in and lay down across the back, which is a very important feature to look at when you're testing out whether or not you can sleep in the back of your car. Then we hit the road to test drive, and he continued to explain things. We walked through features, and when we returned we looked through literature, talked pricing, and he went over one of my favorite features about the Mark Miller dealerships, which is the level of care they give after the purchase, and how much of your services are covered. At no point did I ever get the sales pitch. At no point did I ever get a haggle. I love, love, love that they give you a no hassle price on things, and that they are transparent about the numbers. Afterwards, he followed up with a phone call, and was super chill about my very real opinions and my needs in a vehicle, not his needs in a sales quota. Like I said, I didn't end up with a vehicle here, but it's not because of them, or that I don't think they'd take care of me. It's more about finding what I want right now. Considerations: The financing process resulted in our credit being pulled again after explicitly stating we did not want that to happen. We were pre-approved through our credit union. We only needed a purchase contract and it was my understanding that was the only thing being sent to our credit union, without a credit inquiry. That did not happen and we now have an unnecessary inquiry on our credit. Additionally, we did not want optional warranties, I consented to waive information on the warranties to release liability on the dealership, and the sales associate continued to insist I had to hear about them. read more
