Firstly, I have not been to Dr. Spicer since the end of September 2013. My experience was first rate with him and with his staff. His medical assistant treated me with kindness whether in the office or on the phone. Dr. Spicer was great with post-Op pain control. Not too much! Enough for me to be comfortable after a spinal fusion. He explains the steps of the procedures well. I would not hesitate to go to home again if he were in the Murrieta area. read more

There aren't many neuros that do neck surgery in this area and a few others wouldn't take my case because I had previous surgeries. I knew I need another fusion because of of numbness in jaw and arm. It was getting worse. After several attempts to schedule a consultation, It took calling the back office to get a returned call. I knew he would want a recent scan so I had a CT and xray. To try and be concise here; his staff was the worst I've ever dealt with. I've had nine surgeries. They don't answer the phone, or return your messages. Once I finally got in, he was nice, thorough and said he couldn't help my pain but if I didn't have surgery, the use of my arm would become less. I had the surgery after many calls to his scheduler who was just as bad at returning calls. Then I discovered he can only do surgery at the nastiest hospital in the county because he lost privileges at Temecula Valley and Loma Linda. I had the surgery. In extreme pain afterwards, he would only approve one pain pill!! My last surgeries I was on a pain pump and kept comfortable for a few days. He didn't care that I was in excruciating pain. He refused to return the nurses calls to increase my meds. She said he was terrible about returning calls and didn't understand after a major surgery why I was given so little medication. Apparently this uncaring man has never had a surgery. My follow up at his office never happened. Never went back and they never returned my calls. I followed up with my primary after choking and having swallowing problems for 6 months. He's mediocre at best, and not like the doctors I've had in the past in Orange County. Night and day difference. He's in this for$$$$. Not because he has compassion. read more

If I could rate Dr. Spicer more than 5 out of 5 stars I would! Dr. Spicer has without a doubt changed my life and given me an opportunity to be an active father to my 1 year old son. After 7 years of being a professional door kicker (Army Infantry) and jumping (out of "high performance aircraft") I switched to a much less physically demanding and damaging career, but the damage was already done. I was hopeless and felt completely helpless about the situation. Unfortunately, the medical world didn't want to believe my symptoms and would say stuff like "shouldn't be in that much pain" or insinuating "just trying to get pain medication." When I say it's been a rough road, I mean it. I had doctors ignore my symptoms for years and was left with two partially severed biceps and a ticking time bomb for a lower back, even my own family doubted me. Every day was an effort to just survive the pain, there were definitely dark days and if not for my wife and son I'm not sure how I could have gotten through it all. For the first time I felt like someone heard me and made my quality of life a priority. Immediately upon looking at my back images Dr. Spicer knew exactly what surgery would remedy my back. It's a fairly new (within the last 10 years) procedure but he performed it masterfully and the incision is barley noticeable. Six weeks post surgery I am happy to report complete relief from the pain I used to experience, I am still recovering from the operation but that's to be expected. From the moment we met until our most recent appointment (today) he has demonstrated a very high level of professionalism, compassion, and expertise. While in the hospital (post-op), Dr. Spicer stayed on top of the nursing staff to ensure I was properly taken care of 24/7. I was seen by Dr.Spicer, and was completly disgusted. I was having Horrible back pain and went to see him as I was referred by a friend. It actually took me 4 hrs past my appointment time to be called back to see this so called Dr. He did a CT and we went through that. Hr offered to fuse my back,, which he said I would still be in pain, no brainer, no thankyou! We went back into the exam room, where we continued to talk. He then told me that alot of people end their lives with this kind of pain! Was he trying to put some ideas into the head of a patient, that was actually sad because of said pain? I was sent to Dr Spicer for excruciating neck and arm pain that was becoming debilitating. I work as a hairstylist for 30 years and the last few years have been hard. I had nerves being pinched, disks wearing thin, I had chronic pain daily and did not know how I could continue to work as a hairstylist. Dr Spicer said I need to have C5-C6 & C6-C7 fused with some spacers. Now I am 7 weeks out of surgery and I feel great. Before surgery I would cry everyday in pain. My husband had scheduled an appointment with Dr. Spicer, but he wouldn't even see him because his MRI was over 1 year old. It's the exact same issue and we cannot afford to spend another $1,000 for another MRI but his front office told us basically, well too bad then, we will have to cancel you. They just lost a patient and if they had any integrity at all, they would have seen him to let him know that he could be helped with the existing MRI or at least that it looks treatable but we really need another MRI...something! But to just say, well then too bad is not what a doctor that cares about his patients should do. read more

I had my first back surgery with Dr. Spicer about 8 to 10 years ago. I heard he was one of the best surgeons around. My family wasn't so sure when after my surgery was done he never came out to say that my surgery was finished they weren't very happy with his bedside manner but my surgery came out wonderful I felt wonderful after my back surgery was done and I was feeling much better. He may not have had a good bedside manner but he was a wonderful surgeon he did what he was supposed to do by making my back feel better. Years later I needed to have back surgery again and I went to another Doctor Who messed up my back with that surgery they nicked a nerve and I had to learn how to walk all over again so it's not always about their personality it's what they can do surgically. He's a wonderful surgeon and I'm going back to him again. read more

If I could give Dr. Spicer more than 5 stars I would..In all my years of going to doctors I have never come across a doctor with so much love and compassion for his patients. I have been suffering with terrible back ache and numbness on my entire right for months. And after an MRI I was told that there was a cyst on my spine and I needed to see a Neurosurgeon . I waited a whole month to get to see Dr.Spicer only because he was extremely sick. On the day of my appointment I was told that the insurance put in the wrong codes and I was to see Dr.Spicer for my neck and not my back. I was extremely upset and at this point I was in tears as I was in pain and I didnt want to wait another week to see him.Being a mom of 5 kids I was very worried about limitations to do anything for them because of the pain. I left the office crying and thinking how would I get this error fixed in a day.Hardly 20 mins later I get a call from the office asking if I could turn back. I walked in and the Amy the assistant said she called my insurance and had them correct it and I could see Dr. Spicer.When I met with Dr. Spicer I told him what happened and he said no money or insurance should ever stop his patients from seeing him. I was blown away with what he said. He said I'm a doctor and u r my patient just come in and I will see u even if u had no money. What a wonderful man and truly true to his oath. Long story short my surgery was scheduled and I couldn't believe the after care I had the staff but with Dr. Spicer. Amazing man and a very committed and compassionate man towards his patient. Every single day he would walk into my room and with a big smile he would tell me you are fine and you are going to be ok. He takes personal care to check on the stitches and he always wants to be there to do the dressing and not leave it to the nurses. He went above and beyond to make my family and me feel safe and cared for. If ever your insurance covers you to see Dr. Spicer or if u can try to request to be seen by him please please do. I guarantee you will be well cared for and he is one of the smartest and dedicated doctors you would ever meet. He takes time with his patients and is always willing to answer any question or concerns. If today I'm leading a happy healthy life, back to being Uber mom it's only because of Dr. Spicer who saved my life or else I would have been paralyzed. Within an hour of seeing him he scheduled my surgery for 2 days later and I did nothing , the office staff took care of everything. Dont see this dr!! I was told that I have spinal stenosis and needed surgery asap or I could have permanent nerve damage. Scheduled my surgery, got the time off work, family members notified, then they canceled my surgery the day of the surgery with no explanation. Rescheduled for 3 weeks later, they canceled me again. The night before. No one could explain again. Poor communication. No empathy for their patient who they told would have permanent nerve damage and that I needed the surgery asap. I decided not to wait another month for surgery and got right in with Dr Nguyen from UCSD who I highly recommend. Dont waste your time with the crap they will put you through at Spicers office. I was scheduled for an 8:00 appointment with Dr. Spicer on a Friday morning. After looking at my brain scan and talking with me, he left the room for a few minutes, only to return to tell me that there was a room at the hospital, waiting for me. He cautioned my husband to take me immediately to the hospital and not to stop anywhere along the way. He did emergency surgery and installed a shunt to drain the excess fluid that was building up in my brain. He said that, in his opinion, I was maybe 48 hours away from death. He was kind, personable and very professional! Each follow up appointment has reassured my opinion. read more

I had a marvelous experience with Dr Spicer and his office. A sudden pain in my back turned out to be a herniated lumbar disc. I couldn't walk more than 5 steps without disabling pain. Within 4 days of the MRI I had an appointment with Dr Spicer, and within 4 days after that, I was in surgery. Recovery was relatively easy, and my pain was 100% gone within 2 weeks. I am now back to doing everything I could before. I could not recommend him or his friendly and helpful staff, any stronger. read more

Dr. Spicer performed back surgery on my son almost 2 wks. ago. His lack of concern for appropriate pain management was a "not so funny" joke. Refused to watch my son try to move in bed due to the extreme post-op pain, All he said was I believe you. Coming out of surgery he ordered 1000 mg. acetaminophen. Ridiculous. Never had the hospital (Menifee Valley) even use the breathing apparatus following surgery nor was he put on oxygen. Surprise, he ended up with pneumonia 2 days later while at Rehab. He had to be admitted from ER to Loma Linda Murrieta for both pain management & pneumonia. He has not had proper physical therapy. Has taken them 2 wks. to even have him walk up 4 steps for the first time. Seems like after major surgery your MD would follow your care a lot better than he has. Very disappointed. read more
