In a city heavily populated by all the cider & beer one can stand, Marked Tree Asheville is a great stop off the beaten path. Located 1block off Biltmore Street, Marked Tree strikes a great balance of urban feels & southern comfort. Lovely atmosphere with a great jazzy/uptempo playlist. Super knowledgeable & engaging staff. And a lovely selection of wines that can be appreciated even after your best Biltmore tour. It was a very nice last stop for my Asheville weekend & I look forward to returning on future trips! This place is a hidden gem. The wine was amazing but the sommelier was fantastic. Rachael was knowledgeable about the wines but also the area. We had an enjoyable afternoon with her and got to taste amazing wines. Like we said to her it is a big step up from our Boone's Farm days. Happened upon this sweet corner wine bar and tasting room by the Aloft hotel parking garage. Nicely appointed indoor bar and seating. Comfortable outside seating as well. We are familiar with their wine offerings having been to a tasting at their winery. A beautiful Napa-like experience. One of the few wineries where we enjoyed both the red and white varieties. Had a nice conversation with the host. read more

We were wandering around downtown Asheville and saw a sign for this winery! We were so pleased with our decision to go in. Curtis was our server/wine pourer. He adjusted the tastings to what we normally like and shared the perfect amount of details about the wine and winery while we enjoyed our tasting. He was working solo and managed to remain attentive to everyone in the shop. Plus, the wine was very good too! read more

With SO many vineyard options this is my fav because Mount Pisgah views beyond the grape vines and fine wine just make it extra special. Family operation with widow of brother partner always extremely welcoming, pleasant, attentive, and educational on options. Never disappoints. Wish I could remember her name. We came in for a birthday celebration, and we felt treated like princesses! We did the wine and chocolate pairing. The chocolate was from chocolate fetish, and they were all delicious! Overall, we had samples of five different wines. The rosé and the sparkling wine were our favorites. The location is easy to get in and out of since there's a parking deck right next-door. read more

The Wine Tasting Seasonal of 5 different dry local wines was superb. The Petit Verdot was certainly a party favorite. Paired with charcuterie platter, the dog friendly patio, chill downbeat tunes, and the complimentary outdoor fire heating, our social hour was a blast. The free history lesson regarding the vineyard and the fact Marked Tree won the Crest of the Blue Ridge Award only emphasized the rational to put this on your Asheville bucket list. read more

Love this place. it's right around the corner from our gallery, Gallery COR. This tasting room is a hidden gem in Asheville's bustling downtown. Marked Tree had ambience, really good wine and wonderful staff. We've always found the staff to be welcoming and knowledgeable. We've turned so many friends onto this wine and this place. We even have our gallery artist and employee meetings here. If you need a snack, the hummus is great! We love their dry sparkling and their dry rosé. We've also enjoyed the dryer white wines on many occasions. read more

On my way back to The Foundry hotel I found this cute little wine shop. Perfect because I need to pick up a nice white to enjoy out on the lawn. Not perfect because sauvy b isn't made here. I ask for a bottle of comparable white and make a $40 purchase of not even a regular size bottle. That's the first "critique". Its a split. No full size bottles. I'm given my purchase in a brown bag, cheers the fellow patrons, and make my way out. This bag is a "craft" bag. 1 handle. It drops. Before I make it 10 steps away. I walk back in and joke why does your bag have only one handle?! I ask for a replacement, better bag, refund, discount, anything. Nothing. It's my fault their bag has one handle. Shit customer service. Blonde young male Russian bartender should take a lesson on hospitality. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

We were just walking around and killing some time before dinner, and happened to see a sign for this place (not thinking it could be all that great). We each did a wine tasting, and we were pleasantly surprised (there was one we absolutely didn't care for, but that isn't a big deal, at all). The staff was super friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed our time. Next time we are in the area, we might make a stop to the actual winery to check it out! I can't believe this place only has 1 review so far, but rightfully so that it's a perfect 5 star. A group of 7 of us came in here on a whim and I think this was the star of our trip to Asheville. We all decided ordered the 5-wine $15 taster which included 2 whites, 1 rose, and 2 reds. All of them were truly delicious. The tasting was considered a guided taste and Danica, the general manager, gave us such interesting tidbits on each of the wine, was attentive, and truly made the tasting that much more elevated. When we entered, Danica was in the process of creating centerpieces for all the tables and those were gorgeous and a great touch. Alex also helped our group and was so friendly while giving us local Asheville advice. We loved this place so much that we ordered 5 bottles to go during our BYOB pedal pub bike tour. I cannot recommend this place enough! read more

While visiting Asheville for a family vacation, we happened into this wine bar on a whim. We were pleasantly surprised by the wines, especially the Ghost House Red, which was bold and complex for an east coast red. Can't say enough about this place. The tasting room is stylish and cozy. The wines were good especially the cab franc. The five star rating is because of the excellent service and hospitality. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly and gave us a lot of suggestions for our visit. Honestly if I could give them 100 stars, I would. My friend and I were visiting from out of town and happened to stumble across them on Thursday night and just did a tasting. We loved all the offerings and had the sweetest server. We jokingly told her we would come back, but we actually decided to keep that promise and return. Tonight we stopped by for a quick snack, a glass of wine and a bottle to take home. Both servers working tonight were incredibly friendly and personable. After leaving, I had an accident and tripped in the street shattering my bottle of wine and cut my hand pretty bad. The male server (wish I could remember his name) chased me down the sidewalk with a brand new bottle of wine (which made me cry because it was so kind) and brought me back inside to clean up with their first aid kit. Even the other customers were so incredible and made sure I was okay. There was one customer specifically (I believe her name was Tess and I hope she sees this) who immediately jumped up as soon as I came back inside and cleaned up my cuts and bandaged them. I have never witnessed someone step in so quickly and act so thoughtfully. It truly made everything so much less stressful. We really hope to return in the future and especially visit the vineyard!! We chose to do the wine and chocolate pairing experience which was a partnership with chocolate fetish, also in Asheville. According to our server, all of the grapes used in the wines are NC grown which is pretty neat. We enjoyed the wines and the chocolates and elected to have a glass of bubbles each after the tasting experience as well as we brought two bottles home with us. Server was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and happy to educate us through our tasting experience. Decor was lovely. Super cute location. We will be back. read more

GO HERE! This place was an absolute GEM. I am definitely a wine drinker and in a city like Asheville, the brewery scene can sometimes leave something to be desired and this place was IT. The service was absolutely fantastic, Neil was behind the bar and made sure we had the best evening and had a tasting full of wines that we actually enjoyed! If we didn't like a sample we had, he asked what type of wine we typically enjoy and he found us one. We ended up leaving with four bottles of wine, a t shirt, and a new love for this winery. They even had snacks and local cheese as well. I can't wait to go to the flagship winery one day! I will hands down be sending every friend to this winery from now on when asked for recommendations. read more

Overpromised and underdelivered. I ordered a glass of wine that was recommended to me by the bartender. It did not fit the description she gave me. I asked if I could try something else since I really did not care for it but she told me why I was wrong about my reasons for not liking it and said I could order another glass but would have to pay for the original glass. She never came back to our table to check on our party. After being excited to check out a new find, it was very disappointing to pay $14 for a glass of wine that I could not even finish. read more

My friend and I visited, happened upon this place and we had a great experience. We did the wine and chocolate pairings with Jordan and Neil. They were outstanding. Really nice, fun, informative but not pushy at all. The place is beautiful. The flights and tastings were generous for the price. We went back to buy wine ( one red and one white-Reserve Chardonnay) and chocolate before we left Asheville. Highly, highly recommend. read more

We were greeted with a welcoming smile, and the first to show up not too long after opening. Niel was very knowledgeable about all the wines they had, and we tried them all. There was a decent selection, so something for everyone! We had just been disappointed by a close by chocolate lounge only to find out that The Marked Tree partnered with a different chocolate shop, so we got a couple flights and a box of chocolates. The chocolates were tasty and paired well with the wine. Each piece of chocolate pairs with a glass in the flight. One was salted caramel, one had orange zest, and one had raspberry. I can't remember the 4th but it was good for sure! After the flights, we ended up getting a glass of wine each and took 2 bottles to go. The place has a nice look and has plenty of seating inside and some seating outside as well. We were the first there but it was pretty busy when we left, and on a regular Monday. We had plans to visit elsewhere, so we will definitely be back when we can spend more time! Maybe try the cheese tray next time! read more

We were not real hungry so ordered from the appetizer menu. Tomato bisque, smoked trout dip with crackers, Roasted beet salad and a glass of sangria. The tomato basil bisque was absolute "must try" good. The smoked trout was much to salty, maybe just my taste buds. The roasted beet salad was also good with fresh greens and an interesting assortment of almonds. But the beets were not roasted. Fresh beets are full of sugar and when halved or quartered then roasted, the sugar caramelizes and gives a unique flavor to the beets. These beets had no special flavor, they were from a can and quartered. Now the really bad, especially as they are a winery. I like sangria, it's a refreshing cool summer drink, composed of fresh fruit (apples, pears, plums, grapes and a healthy portion of citrus) and wine that is left to marinate. I watched the bartender add some 1/4inch pieces of green apples to a glass, fill with ice cubes and add wine. That is not sangria, that is watered down wine with an apple garnish. Five stars. This is the cutest wine bar and tasting room in Asheville. Curtis has created such a welcoming, thoughtful spot, and you can tell there is real care behind the experience. The Cab Franc was delicious, and the whole place has the kind of charm that makes you want to settle in and stay awhile. Absolutely worth a visit. read more

Recovered from Hurricane Helen (9/24). We finished in time to hear live music and enjoy a few more glasses of wine with our new friends from the tour. Pavilion provides beautiful views, comfortable seating, ceiling fans and walls of curtains that keep out rain and cold. Dog friendly, but guests must be 21 and older. Children are not welcomed. It is a working farm and children pose too large of a liability.

The drive is scenic along some winding roads with great views. The tasting room itself is near the top of a hill with great views of the surrounding vineyard and hills. When you enter you'll be greeted and offered a few different tasting options. You can essentially select your own from the offerings, including ciders. We both picked our wines, mine more white wine based and SCW went more for the reds. After a brief wait we were served. I didn't really enjoy the glassware that the wines are served in because they don't lend well to oxygen getting into the wine. I think this really detracts from the experience. Once we were about halfway into a tasting of wine then you could actually smell it much better. The wines themselves for me were hit and miss. The reserves were a bit better for me, but we didn't leave with any bottles. The tasting room is very nice, large, and has great views from any seat.

The winery was aware of our group's arrival, but there was only one staff member working in the tasting room, which made the experience feel a bit disorganized. Rather than wait, many of us ended up going into the main building and ordering wine flights or individual glasses instead. While we didn't eat during our visit, the food that passed by our table looked delicious. Despite the issues with the tasting room, it seems like a wonderful spot for lunch or dinner, and the property itself is beautiful.
