Come to the large, covered market to buy fresh fruits, corn & other vegetables, as well as jars of jams, jellies, chutneys, and fresh bakery goodies. Enjoy picking your own apples or choose from several varieties in the store, picked in season as they ripen. Have a picnic while the kids play on the equipment in the play area. Choose your pumpkin. Try the delicious fresh cider and the fresh fruit slushies. It's all good. Their apple cider donuts are legendary. Lots of parking. Not far out of town. We found Marker-Miller on Google during peak Apple picking season a few years back. It's a great experience, we just went again. The orchards have several apple varieties, are well maintained and easy to navigate. The price is quite reasonable, you pay by choosing between three sizes of bags to pick the apples. They have picnic shelters and several playgrounds for kids that are free. Kids can also participate in a tractor ride in individual cars that are pulled by a riding lawn mower. We didn't see a full size tractor ride however. If you come hungry, try their apple cider donuts, slushies and ice cream. All of it is really good! read more

Marker-Miller is located in Virginia and quite far from any of the major DMV cities, so you would need to drive over. However its distance works to create a more relaxed atmosphere. To pick apples you would need your purchase either a small, medium or large bag for as low as $10. The small bag was sufficient to hold a good amount of apples for 2 people. There is a huge variety of apples varying from sweet to tart, red and green. The apples were good! The orchard was very easy to navigate. There was a market where you could also purchase apple cider, donuts, and a stand for some really tasty barbecue pulled pork sandwiches. This orchard is also very family friendly and there is an open field where families can eat, play some games, etc. there is also a lot of parking so nothing to worry about regardless of what time you choose to arrive. Such a perfect place for apple picking! Even though I've lived in Virginia for several years now, the fall season is so busy at work that I had never gone to one of the orchards before. When my coworker mentioned that she visits Marker-Miller Orchards with her family every year, I asked if I could come along for the ride! They had plenty of parking and clear signage. We waited in line for the bag stand to choose from one of three bag sizes for picking. I opted for the smallest bag, which worked out perfectly for my first trip. The rows of apples were clearly labeled. They also had an informational sheet to help you decide on the flavors of apples (sweet, tart). We selected several different varieties, enjoying the hunt for the perfect apples. My coworker's kids also had a blast in the play area. The whole orchard was very family friendly, and I think they even rent out wagons. After filling our bags, we got them checked and signed at the stand before loading up the car. From there, we headed into the large shop area. You can find every fresh apple product that you can think of! I got some fresh apple cider to go while enjoying an apple cider slushee. I also got a box of their fresh fudge. I was so lucky to snag a box of their apple cider donuts. (People were snatching them off the table as quickly as they came out from the back.) They were by far the best apple cider donuts I've ever eaten. The prices were all very reasonable for the amazing quality of their products. I'll definitely be coming back here next year. This was a nice fun stop after being in the car a few hours. Sundays they don't open till 12 so plan to get there early to get parking. It was really windy yesterday but they have a cute kids park. No pets allowed in the store. They have U-pick or you can use the baskets in the market to pick out different varieties to fill your bucket up with. Marker-Miller is baked into our family's fall plans. We go there to pick apples, the cameos being a solid choice, yearly. It's a great way to get that dose of fall farm vibes you yearn for. For kids, there is a playground, tractor ride and room to roam. Inside there's tons of produce, baked goods, meat, eggs, salsas, pickles. I'm a big fan of their ham sandwich, which is simply salty ham on a bun, but it's a beautiful thing. Apple cider donuts are kind of a must. They make them fresh there. Some other things worth mentioning for people considering going: - They make kettle corn fresh outside in one of those big steel drum things. - On Saturdays, there's usually a barbecue stand dishing out meats. - A must do: Get a picture with the big apple! It's near the parking lot. - They sell imperfect produce at a discounted price, meaning you can get locally grown vegetables and fruits for cheap. - I'm not sure they grow pumpkins here but they do sell them. I don't know if I'm speaking out of school here, but I think they put the pumpkins in a field to give the pumpkin patch vibe but I don't think you can actually pick them from the vine. Just a skip away from shopping in Winchester, in a scenic, tree-lined location, the orchards and shop have everything that you need. As mentioned, the cider donuts! All kinds of other food goods, and warm drinks to keep you cozy while you're playing at the elaborate playground with your kids. The apple trees are beautiful, and the people are friendly. Apparently they make gluten-free donuts too, fyi -- I know that can be a big deal for those who require it. Next time we plan on staying longer at the playground. We happened to visit on a cold, windy day and it was difficult to stay out there too long but my 4 year old didn't get to fully explore outside. Freshly baked apple cider donuts are life!! These were so soft and warm. Very generous with the sugar and spices. They have seating available outside of the market and throughout the orchard. We actually came here for apple picking but the donuts were a nice surprise. They are a dozen for $10. Parking lot was full but you can still find a spot on the lawn. We went back in October. There was a long line to buy the apple picking bags which comes in three sizes. They also check your bag when you leave. We picked up some fuji and granny smiths. read more

So this orchard is just west of downtown Winchester. In the fall you can pick your own apples. Inside the shop they have fruits, veggies, cheeses, and yummy apple cider donuts. There is some parking on the paved lot in front of the store with additional parking a bit further away. Very family place to visit. read more

I like visiting this farm market and orchard. The views are so beautiful, it's never overly crowded so you can sit on the porch and just enjoy the view, they have peach and strawberry slushies (the strawberry is better than peach) that you can enjoy while sitting on one of the rocking chairs. They have a pretty decent variety of vegetables, some are local, some are not. They have home made iced teas, cherry cider, lots of baked goods and seasonal fruit. I think this orchard is also be a really lovely place to go apple picking when it opens up; the orchards are so pretty, and there is a space where you can picnic by the market. read more

My first time apple picking and I had a great time doing it here at Marker Miller Orchards. It was fun for the whole family as the kids got to pick apples, play in the playgrounds, and get towed by the tractor. The prices are reasonable and the apples were really sweet. We got a bunch and gave them out to our friends because we had so many. The farmers market and store was nice and the apple cider donuts were warm and fresh. Parking was busy but not bad on a Sunday. So I wasn't sure what to expect given that I was gonna go on one of the last weekends with good weather and all the nearby farms having closed their PYO for the season, but Marker-Miller was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend it to everyone. First off, everyone was wearing masks and social distancing for the most part which was pretty cool. Their PYO policy is also pretty nice. You just buy a bag from the front and can immediately start walking the orchards to fill it up. No need to wait for a group or have time slots that limit you to an hour. The orchards were big enough that we were by ourselves most of the time. If a group was passing by, everyone would usually mask up and be polite. My advice would be to make sure you are prepared for the large bag. It can get a bit heavy when it's full haha. I saw some folks with pull wagons which looked useful. When you're done, you go back to the PYO stand to checkout and then you're good to go. I also recommend picking up some of the apple cider donuts in the market. If you see some when you walk in the market, grab it up. We got some in the morning when we first arrived and they had sold out by the time we were done. The line for the bakery was super long with people waiting for more donuts. Luckily they bake them onsite and a guy brought steaming hot donuts down the line in a cart. Let me just say I love these donuts. I'm already trying to think of a reason to drive back to Winchester so I can buy more of these donuts. read more

Great PYO experience overall, even though many of the trees have already been picked through. You'll purchase a bag inside the market before you head out to fill it up. It was pretty quiet for a weekday afternoon, we only ran into 3 or 4 other groups in the orchard. They have wagons you can use too. Pretty impressed that we picked a little over 20lbs of apples! Glad we paid by the bag and not by the pound. We also tried their apple cider donuts, which were delicious. The ice cream wasn't bad, and they had a seasonal 'apple pie' flavor. We discovered this PYO in Winchester. Tickets are not needed, however, I would highly recommend going at opening as the parking lots were already past half full by the time we got there! You have the option to pick between 3 different size bags. I believe at the time, there were 3 different types of apples to pick from but we choose Fuji apples. My only recommendation... go to back... further from where the front (where the parking lot is) to avoid the crowd... some of them decide to climb trees too... Last tip: before you leave, stop by the store to pick up some apple cider and apple cider donuts! read more

This place is awesome! I know that the tolls are high to get here but so we'll worth it. It is one of the largest you picks I have ever been to. The prices are worth the drive! They have more than apples and lots of fruits and veggies too. So much to do here with kids. A huge plus is they let you pick rain or shine. This orchard/market is currently only open the last Saturday of every month (since it's not apple picking season). I stopped by just to check out what they had at the market and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had apple cider doughnuts. They also had salsas, apple butter, pies, wines, etc. I had hoped to see more items in the bakery section but I know their business mainly comes from the apple picking season. I haven't been here during that time but I definitely want to come back a check it out. I bought the apple cider doughnuts and they were pretty good. Not the best I've had but I'd get them again. Will be back later on in the year for apple picking and to see what other stuff they have at the market. read more

Solid place for a family outing! The lines are long, and we thought, "why wait in line when you can buy the very apples you would pick, already picked in the store towards the end of the day when most of the people have left." Instead, we just let the kids play on the playground until they were exhausted and then we took them over to the tractor pull to finish them off and they had an absolute ball! Then we bought some apples and we were all thrilled with our haul, especially the kids who were super giddy with their giant apples! The Singaporean in me contemplated not getting my hands dirty and mud on my feet by picking apples from trees on a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon at Marker-Miller Orchards. However, I didn't know when I'd return so I got a small bag ($8) for apple picking. It was a lot harder than I thought. Many apples were rotting in the trees or had worms or were simply out of reach. I might not be stacking them optimally but a small bag contained 16 apples of varying shapes and sizes! There's something to be said about tree-ripened apples. The Crispin Apple was so fragrant and sweet, it reminded me of Muscat grapes. The intensity of flavor was akin to Kyoho Grapes and Amaou Strawberries. I've never tasted an apple like that. I guess it shouldn't have been a surprise that the apple pie that I made using four types of apples tasted as good as it did! PS: The Apple Cider and Apple Cider Donuts are amazing! read more

Lovely Day today apple picking with a friend of mine. Although...we did have some issues. First we arrived around 12:30 or so and the place had opened I believe at 12:00 there was no parking when we arrived. We ended up parking outside on the side of the orchard in the grass. Then when we finally got into the orchard area we then stood in a huge line just so we could obtain a bag to carry our apples. $16+ tax for. A bag for half a bushel of apples. In which the drawstring must close. Lucky for us there were about 8 different variety of apples. Granny Smith,Red Delicious,Nittany,Fuji, Yoshima Fuji , Yellow Delicious Crispin, and Red Ida. The trek to get apples wasn't bad and it was pretty organized with signs telling you what apples were what. Now before we started picking we decided to visit the farm market...in which we should've bought those darn cider donut holes....because they ended up running out quick. By the time we finished apple picking and went back there were none left there wasn't even any doughnuts there was a line of 15+ people waiting for a dozen package or even donuts in general. Probably the craziest thing I've seen. The wait was about 15-20mins. The market does offer fudge apple cider slushies and other jarred and pickled items. There was even moonshine jelly. Although I decide I shouldn't pass up blackberry preserves so I bought a jar for $6.99. Overall a fun experience. The farm also serves BBQ onsite has Apple butter cooking and a band that plays. The kids have a playground to hangout in they also offer wagon rides for $2 dollars. But it's all about the Cider Donuts which are delicious light fluffy and airy that make you want a whole package. But let's be honest when they are fresh out of the fryer your going to eat them all anyway there is no time for saving for later. read more

Really worth the visit! I was visiting Winchester for a little weekend getaway from DC, and was told by the owner/chef at the Village Square to visit Marker-Miller Orchards. The apple donut lived up to all expectations - it's best I only bought one. I enjoyed it outside at one of the many picnic tables, watching families play with their kids on the awesome giant pirate ships on the playground surrounded by big huge apple trees. It was really quaint and super awesome, a nice immersion from the city!! I forgot to mention, I ate awesome apple donut with an awesome apple that I picked up in the shop. Eat them together, oh god, you will be left with such sweet apple happiness in your belly! The shop has a variety of items from Virginia, WV, and Pennsylvania, including a nice variety of fresh fruit and vegetables locally grown. They also have honey, fresh baked goods, regional cheeses, milks, and a huge selection of jams, butters, salsas, etc, that the Marker-Miller Orchard makes. They also have pumpkins and you can either fill a basket of apples up in the shop, or pluck them from one of the plentiful apple trees on site!! Also, they had burgers, and cheap food being freshly grilled for your hunger needs too. A really nice special treat, whether alone as a wandering city slicker, as a couple, or with the family. note: $5 minimum on your credit card! But, that's not hard to do...I just bought a donut and a few apples...so I had to add some honey on top of my bill to meet it! read more

If you go up North or live there, you better be in a apple orchard in the Autumn. If not, you're wasting that good weather and scenery. That said, Maker-Miller Orchard is a great example of what to look for. As soon as you pull up, you will see the rows upon rows of apple trees. And they are beautiful. Go during the afternoon, so that you have plenty of daylight and the temperatures aren't too chilly. The big barn holds so much inside that you cannot even imagine (unless of course you read my entire review). I would suggest you check out the pictures I posted of the place just so you know the beauty awaiting you. Of course everything apple is inside. Apple cider doughnuts, apple pie, apple filling, apples, apple candles. Then there are a variety of other fruits, vegetables, and baking goods. But you don't come here to grocery shop. You come to pick apples. Get a basket, pay up, and start picking. That's where the fun is. Now there is a area to sit down and eat and a playground, as someone will inevitably get bored. Use these sparingly. It is so peaceful, serene, and aromatic out there amidst the trees. *Insider's Tip -Be sure to take some pictures. I used to live here and lived this place. Brought my daughter today to 'pick you own' and was told absolutely no purses of any kind. My 'purse' holds my phone and car key, barely. No way to fit anything else. (And I'm wearing a dress, with no place to put my keys) Sad they've had a horrible time with people carrying out loads of apples, but there was nothing on the website, and both employees I spoke to were extremely terse, short, and rude with me. I guess they are exhausted of listening to people, but most places have at least some size limit. Made for a horrible experience and negative way to start our day. I'm so disappointed in this once iconic orchard. Had I known before hand, could have planned, or just gone somewhere else. read more

I love this place! The fruit and vegetables they sell are grown on the property. Sometimes I can get a bargain on second quality fruit and veggies. These have nothing wrong with them, just under or oversized or miss-sharpen. Still fresh off the farm and so much better than the grocery. Cute play area for the children.
