We moved from NYC to Detroit.. and now reside in gorgeous Up North Michigan on Grand Traverse Bay. And while I miss the NYC slice of pizza I grew up with, I have been forever changed once I met DETROIT STYLE PIZZA. Detroit Style brings me back to the days of sliding into a cozy booth at institutions such as Louis of Hazel Park.. or Buddy's on Conant... even Cloverleaf out by the shores. It's about having an incredible 4 slice square pie delivered.. with a crispy, buttery edged crust, a plethora of blended mozzarella and brick cheeses with an undeniable tasty sauce. Pepperoni slices curled and charred on the edges just right. Banana peppers (a pizza luxury we never saw the likes of in NYC!) Market 22 embodies all that is Detroit. They have INCREDIBLE Detroit Style pizza. They offer local/Detroit products and drinks (yay Vernors in real glass bottles!) They have amazing looking Ruebens that look like they could compete with with best (i.e.: Zingerman's) & most importantly they exude that kickass attitude, friendliness and grit that you'd encounter any day in Eastern Market.. or down in Hart Plaza.. or at your local Coney Island. It's Detroit. And it rocks. This is our new favorite spot for pizza in the area. I highly recommend visiting after snowshoeing or wine tasting or dune climbing up on the Leelanau Peninsula. Phenomenal cheese sticks and pizza here! Also a nice selection of drinks (non-alcoholic and beer). The ranch and marinara sauces are both delicious and I was extremely impressed with the quality of the ingredients used on both the pizza and sticks. Our waitress was friendly and checked in frequently as well as a few other workers passing by, making sure we had the best customer service possible. Very impressed with the fluid covid protocols. I called to confirm their hours (a lot of places have been closed due to season and covid), they were open so I placed the order. They gave me super detailed info of what to expect which I appreciated. They sent a confirmation text and told me when to arrive for my approximate pick up time and then to wait till I got a second text which meant my order was ready and I could go in. This is awesome because a lot of places are so small and you end up with too many people in the waiting pick up area. I know it takes time and money to set up these procedures and technology so I really appreciated it. We got everything we ordered and everything was great. I got regular pizzas for the kids and I had the GF. It was really great and the toppings were all fresh. If I didn't know, I wouldn't have guessed it was GF. I have to eat GF and have had a lot of bad ones so I was pleased! The kids favorite was the onion and bacon bread! Don't miss it! Really a great spot and we will be back again soon!!! read more

Best choice I have ever made. This has been my 4th trip to Michigan, and my first time in the Traverse City area. Market 22 has a homey feel, with a personnel that exudes southern hospitality (I'm a Georgia girl). The restaurant is true to its name with a mini beer and snacks market allocated to the right corner of the building. For lunch I had half a Clevelander and half a New Yorker. The cook was awesome to split my friends and I sandwich in half for us. The sandwiches each had a wonderful sauce, and was filled with flavor and meat. They didn't skimp on any aspect of the sandwich. It was a delicious experience!!! Please come try them out!!! Do not be fooled by the little amount of reviews. It is a gem. read more

Ordered a Detroit style pizza with the sauce on top. Crust was great, edges were crispy. Sauce was very flavorful. Pizza was a little soggy towards the middle because of the sauce. All in a great pizza and will def be back. Next time I'll skip the sauce on top and try another one. read more

We were in Traverse City for 2 1/2 days and ate at Market 22 three times. Yes, it's that good! First night we had the Sweet Lou, Greektown Pizza and cheese bread to share. A couple of craft beers were also a must. The next morning we were back for the amazing Sunday Brunch. Market 22 has the most impressive Bloody Mary bar I've seen. The everything bagel was a special that's so good I'm told it's getting a permanent place on the main menu. The coffee selection was another brunch perk. We couldn't stay away so the next day we were back for lunch. We had the veggie burger and meatball sub (daily specials) before hitting the road. Both deserve a permanent spot on the menu as well. Highly recommend stopping at Market 22 at least once while in Maple City,but you'll likely be back . read more

The pizza is fantastic, the breadsticks are also great. Sandwiches are average. Cool little spot odd ordering, bar, checkout setup. Hours are horrible and incredibly inconsistent. The biggest problem is by far the staff. Super unfriendly and not attentive. The cooks seemed crabby and like customers are a hassle. Ok.... I wrote the glowing review below mid pandemic and it didn't post for some reason. And I've been back more than once. My comments on the food quality still stands. HOWEVER, please pleasePLEASE find some way to let people know when you have decided to close during your normal business hours. I've driven over twice from Suttons Bay only to find you closed on a lovely summer Saturday, today being one such day. Your Facebook page says nothing about it, your telephone answering message says nothing. Google says nothing. I've learned to call but often you're too busy to answer, so I have come anyway. Please put an "out of restaurant " message on your phone when you aren't there and your listed hours say you are. So, my review...While we are still in the midst of the pandemic we just needed to get out and drive in the sunshine and get yummy food, even if it meant eating in the car! We got 4 sandwiches from Market 22... BLTA- which was exceptional! The avocado was creamy, the tomato was fresh and juicy, the bacon was awesome! and the sourdough toast tasty. Both people who got this loved it! A solid A+! The Philly Cheesesteak was delicious! The meat was really good and the veggies nicely grilled. I would suggest provolone rather than American cheese, but that didn't affect it badly. Another solid A. The Jives pastrami and slaw Reuben was outstanding. Another solid A. This is a great place to grab lunch away from the madhouse, otherwise known as Glen Arbor. The sandwiches we had were freshly made on homemade bread and very generous. The pizzas we ordered had fresh ingredients and came straight from the oven. The service was a little slow, but not terrible. There was no crowd whatsoever, compared to the absolute zoo in Glen Arbor, just 10 minutes away. If you are staying at The Homestead, turn left and head north to this great little place. Check their hours before leaving. They only serve lunch on certain days and times. read more

Market 22 is AWESOME! We need more places like this downstate! Everything we've had from here exceeds our expectations - pizza, sandwiches, you name it! The breakfast menu is top notch as well! It includes burritos, crepes, and homemade croissant sandwiches! Be sure to try their homemade sausage - it's DELICIOUS! For the road (or while your there), they carry homemade pastries, and a great selection of Michigan made snacks. Not to mention, a large variety of Better Maid chips! They also carry a great selection of local beer, wine, and liquor! :) No alcohol consumption on the premises though. The wife and I stopped by because of the great reviews. I have to say amazing food and great service. We liked the food so much we came back for the second time the next day. I got the Benny's Wilber and it was fantastic. The wife got the croissant sandwich with egg and sausage bacon pesto. It was awesome as well. The staff are all family and it's clear they are striving to make your food and visit a great one. Very clean establishment. They also have convenience store items for purchase. The coffee is very good also. Update: went back for a third time today. Omg the jalapeño chicken soup amazing. Nice thick,super creamy and flavorful. Now on to the pizza. Fantastic family owned and operated restaurant/deli/pizzeria/market halfway between Leland and Glen Arbor on M22. Quintessential "up north" feel that delivers on all fronts (food-service-ambiance). What a great find! We are here twice during a recent stay in the area. This deli has a nice feel and great staff. I ordered the veggie pizza without cheese. It was loaded with veggies. I loved the Detroit style crust. My son ordered the BLT pizza and he was very happy with it. We went back a couple of days later for lunch and took friends. They ordered the BLT pizza based on my son's recommendation. It was a winner. I had to special order a veggie sandwich without any dairy. Our first time in this area and very glad we had Yelp to recommend this place. It isn't the most obvious restaurant and passing by on the road wouldn't leap out as a place worth trying. Very glad we did though. The pizza and salads were excellent. Most pizza places I find rather uninteresting, but both the food and the friendly service made this *the* standout restaurant on our visit to this area of Michigan.
