This is an odd place in terms of ordering from bar, then walking 20 feet to order food, then hoping someone is at register (another spot) when paying. Kids that work there are a bit snotty, ; keep in mind most people are one timers but still..)and food is ok, they hype their pizza but it's not worth coming back for. Also their hours are quite limited and the " market" part (basic groceries) is VERY limited, basically worthless. We stopped in during a road trip down M22. Very cute small little store with a great deli / restaurant. I had the turkey Reuben my husband had the chicken salad wrap. We couldn't get through on the phone to order so we drove over there to place our order and pick it up. The woman who took our order at the window wasn't wearing a mask but they have a plastic shield installed. She was friendly. Not sure about the other employees. I can't count the number of times I've been here anymore, and every time is just as delicious as the last. It's been cool to see them expand and update the inside, as well as adding the ice cream stand next door. My go to is the Sweet Lou pizza - calling in your order and then driving there will be a shorter wait, but any wait is worth it. Decent food but bad customer service. Both times I've been here, the employees seem to be wandering around with no intent on helping anyone. This past time, we stood at the counter for about 5 minutes before anyone asked to take our order. Then they told us that only a few of the menu items were available for carry out. After ordering our food, we went over to the register to pay. It took about 5 more minutes for someone to finally come over and ring us up. Meanwhile, there was a worker sitting nearby eating, and a few others in the back trying not to make eye contact. I will probably not go back again. read more

This was my absolutely favorite spot on this trip up north. Definitely a must go if you're in the Traverse City area, Empire, Maple City, etc. My friend and I wanted to split halves on the Big New Yorker and the Clevelander, and they were nice to bring it out to us with both of them split on the plates. It's such a quaint little place, and I love how its a local deli. They serve food with such big portions and everything smells amazingly delicious. The deli shop also has a lot of Detroit made- or Michigan based snack items. Staff is super friendly and service was quick. They keep it very clean and because it's a small place, there isn't a lot of seating on the high benches and tables, but if you come at an off time, there's enough to sit. This place definitely reminds me of some of the local shops right in Detroit, sad part is, it isn't in Detroit. I will definitely be coming back when I make my way up north again. To be honest, we stopped in here looking for a bathroom on the way to Suttons Bay! What a great surprise! The food looked so inviting, we decided to make this our lunch stop. The menu choices were great, and the food was excellent! Everything here is homemade, and the GIANT cookie that finished off the meal was amazing! I wish this place was closer to the Detroit area. I'd make it a regular stop. They also have a large selection of beer and wine and a small specialty food store section. Got here an hour before they closed after a long drive from our home in Chicago. We had decided to take a chance on a restaurant near our AIRBNB in Cedar rather than drive another half hour to Traverse City. What a lucky find! This was some of the best pizza we've had all year (we got the Aloha). Owner and staff were amazingly friendly and attentive. Doubles as a nice craft beer and spirits market. Very cute inside. I had been here before and the pizza is really good. One thing sorely lacking is fast service and a pleasant staff. We arrived on a Friday night last month and were immediately informed that the food would not come out for at least one hour. We didn't mind since we were not in a rush but it felt like the staff didn't want us to stay. Last night I placed a pick up order of two 4 square pizzas and cheese sticks at 7:50 and the young woman on the phone emphasized that the food wouldn't be ready until 8:45, which was fine since it was a 30-minute drive there. I arrived early and acknowledged to a woman at the counter that I was early. She said she would check anyway. Another young woman loudly stated that she told me the food would not be ready until 8:45. I thought she was a little snit. I would have ordered a beer to drink while I waited but the staff was more interested in getting ready to close at 9:00 and didn't ask if I would like anything to drink even though I was standing at the bar in front of the taps. So I paid for my food and waited 20 minutes until my food was brought to the counter at 8:50. Pizzas were under cooked but the cheese sticks were great. Hospitality training might be beneficial for this place. read more

Amazing. Great atmosphere and delicious food!!! It's a hip and cool feeling spot with fun blackboard menus, cool seating and a great vibe. The food - salads, Detroit style pizza and sandwiches are amazing. So good. And everything is fresh fresh fresh. There is wine, cider and beer as well. Super disappointed. Took my buddies out for a sandwich on our lunch break from TC - a solid 45 minute drive each way. We were planning on having the Bohemian as we love Cubans and that's as close as it comes at Market 22. When we got there at 12 on a Tuesday, we eagerly ordered our sandwiches. "No more pork," the line cook yelled, "only enough to fill the last order." Hmm, out of pork, which is a key ingredient in a 1/4 of their menu, at noon during the summer season. Not only were they out of pork, the line cook and cashier couldn't have given two sh*ts that they were out of pork, or offer so much as an apologetic glance, let alone any semblance of recompense. After waiting for 20 minutes our sandwiches came out. One got the Reuben (which was pretty good, hence the 2 stars) and two others ordered the Big New Yorker, which was lacking any meat on over half the sandwich. The only thing "big" about it was the size of our disappointment. When we expressed our frustration to the cashier when she checked in on us, she brushed it off and didn't even respond. Running out of stuff happens. Treating your customers poorly shouldn't. There are about a dozen awesome sandwich shops from TC to Sleeping Bear and absolutely no reason to eat here at all. As a recent transplant to Northern Michigan, I'm all about supporting the locals. Market 22 is not too far from my house and they are a small restaurant, grocery store and bakery all in one. (Oh and they have a large assortment of liquor too!) I've had their lasagna and a pizza - both take out and both excellent. The pizza is "Detroit style" and the crust is awesome (awesome = buttery, crunchy and soft all at the same time). The lasagna was a very generous portion with a delicious sauce. Finally, I've tried a few items from their bakery and they are all so much better than what you can find anywhere else in Leelanau county. I highly recommend the platter sized cinnamon rolls. The track record for new restaurants staying open isn't great but I really hope this one stays around. I'm only giving a 4 star rating because I haven't tried enough of the different items on the menu to give it the 5 stars but I'm sure by summer they will be a 5 star place in my book. Support the local economy, try Market 22 if you're in Cedar, Maple City, Glen Arbor, Leland or Suttons Bay!!! UPDATED: I changed this to a 5 star review because the food is consistently good, they've got the best pizza in Leelanau county and the owner and his family are great. For me, the go to item on the menu is the pizza, delicious!!!! read more

We have driven by this place many times and finally decided to place a to go order. Wow...what were we waiting for? The D-town pizza was excellent..best pizza we have had in the TC area. We also had the Bohemian sandwich and a pastrami rueben, both very good. The market burger was just ok, not enough flavor for me. The next night, stopped by for soup to go. The jalapeño chicken was excellent. This will be a regular spot for us. YUM. read more
