I can't believe I've never reviewed this spot after all our years of going here! Slabtown is an absolute 'must' for any burger lovers visiting TC; especially in the summertime when you can sit outside on their porch or surrounding patio. It's an old house that has been transformed into a burger destination. The inside is cramped, especially in the order area when they're busy, and indoor seating is tough to come by at peak times. The service has never been anything short of excellent on our visits. The staff is welcoming, helpful, patient, and friendly. Service is quick, even when they're slammed. Phenomenal burgers, O-rings, tots, and sweet potato fries. The Northwood's DRAFT (not fountain) root beer is a perfect pairing with their burgers. Slabtown's menu of specialty burgers is enormous and the BYO options include different protein choices and excellent GF buns. I've tried many of their burgers, but have to say that the Slabby Patty on a pretzel bun and the Pungi's Pepper Patty really stood out as a couple of my favorites. For a really sinful (and unhealthy) treat, ask for the gravy tots. Oh brother...insanely good but definitely a guilty pleasure. I actually found this spot on Yelp while checking out recommendations from other Yelpers visiting Traverse City. The customer service was top tier from start to finish. You place your order at the register, then choose to dine inside or outside, and they bring the food right to your table once it's ready. The food itself was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Bohemian Burger with a pretzel bun. It was perfectly cooked and flavorful. My husband went with the Rodeo Burger with sweet potatoes fries. He loved it. The shakes are also great. They also have a kids' menu, which made it easy for our family. We purchased three kids' burgers with fries, and the kids ate every bite. Great service, great atmosphere, and fantastic food. The burger patties were thick smash burger style. I appreciated the abundance of meat on each patty, which I feel like is lacking elsewhere sometimes. The milkshakes were delicious and reasonably priced as well. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Lots of shaded spots to sit outside. I saw Slabtown Cafe on some list that had best hamburgers in each state. So while I was planning a trip to the Upper Peninsula, I put it on my list to check out. Man am I glad I did! We got here at like 1:30pm on a Tuesday and it was pretty crowded. We were able to find a table outside on their porch I ordered a Sweet Lincoln (burger with bacon, grilled onions, Swiss cheese and garlic honey mustard on a smashable bun) an order of onion rings and a black cherry cream soda to wash it all down. They brought it all out in a greasy brown paper bag so I knew it would be good. The burger was phenomenal! I'm not sure I've ever had a better burger and that's not hyperbole. I really can't think of better burger. The onion rings were really good and the black cherry cream soda was a unique soda to wash it all down. A unique and fun burger joint with innovative combinations housed in an old house in a residential area near "downtown" traverse city. We arrived a bit after 1 on a beautiful August Thursday and the place was still buzzing from the lunch rush although we didn't have to wait long to order (which is done at the counter). They take your name with your order and come find you when the food is ready (took about 5-10 min). The menu has a number of specialty burgers like the rodeo (what I got) which is a bacon cheeseburger topped with onion rings and BBQ sauce-very good although a tad too well done. My wife had one with cherries, blue cheese and sautéed onions that she enjoyed. We also got some of their hot crispy fries and a couple of drinks (local soda company). Winter dining is somewhat nonexistent, they have approximately 5-6 small tables inside. The drinks were syrup style drinks, they became very sticky on the cup due to the splash from the fountain, leaving our hands sticky all the way back to our Airbnb. We were visiting from out of town, and after trying Slabtown, we recommended it to my parents during their visit and they, too, said they were the best burgers they've ever had! I love the house-building it's located in, too! Their homemade black bean burger is AMAZING. I loved it so much and it was really nice to have that as an option to enjoy, as not many places have house made vegetarian options when it comes to burgers. My husband is very picky but he couldn't stop talking about how much he loved Slabtown and couldn't wait to come back. Their fries are really good too! When ordering through door dash, it was extremely difficult to change burgers how we wanted (example: take off Swiss, add American) which left people wanting to customize rather than ordering from the menu. The fries were all fire! We did orders of the chili cheese, gravy, and regular, all were good. We would do this place again, but maybe go in and order rather than trying to do doordash. read more

For the dipping sauce, I received a brown sugar garlic aioli. So good. The burger was cooked to a perfect medium and it was not a smash burger. It had some thickness to it. The bleu cheese was not overpowering, but having the contrasting sweetness from the cherries made that burger even tastier.
