With a heavy heart as of this past Friday - I no longer feel comfortable shopping here. As a town resident I've been a loyal customer at this location since 2020, visiting at least 3 times a week. I know the staff well at this store and loved shopping here for not only the convenience but the small town/local market type of environment. The Assistant Store Manager Jose completely shattered my trust. In July, Assistant Manager Jose stepped in to address an incident I had with a cashier on store policy (after I had already connected with corporate about it). He vehemently apologized and even purchased me a bottle of wine as an apology. He reassured me that he would speak to the cashiers about it going forward. On Friday, he denied it all and implied it was a one time exception. What upset me most isn't the store policy - I understand and respect that. It was the dishonesty and lack of clear communication. Had management politely communicated in July that this was an exception instead of providing me with a gift and false sense of reassurance it would have drastically changed the circumstances. A manager should stand behind his word or at least address discrepancies with respect. Instead, he denied our conversation happened and he did it in front of staff members I've built relationships with over years. After 6 years of loyalty, I feel completely disrespected. I'm heartbroken because this store meant something to me - it felt like home. I can't trust a business where management lacks integrity. read more

My exposure to Roche Bros was their underground grocery store at Downtown Crossing so running across an above ground supermarket was a pleasant surprise. And yes, it is definitely full sized! As with supermarkets, this one does have all the usual departments. The store is quite tidy and the shelves appeared very well stocked. There is a large focus on prepared foods and ready-to-heat. The sushi display looked fresh and had a good selection. I'm hours away from my own kitchen so I did not make a full shop here. Instead, I got a light snack from the deli where I found some sliced meats and cheese on special. The gent who served me was pleasant even if his "Thank-you-have-a-good-night" was after he'd already turned away. The rest of the marked including butchery, produce, dry goods, etc all looked great. Prices were reasonable and I did not spot any holes in the merchandise leveling. The young man who rang up my purchase was polite and had an appropriate sized bag for my few items. This is a beautiful market. I go in there often with my elderly mother to grab one or two things. Recently I went in there to get prepared food and walked down the soup aisle to find that a soup that I used to buy at Wegmans for $2.99 that then went up to 3.99 (at which point I stopped buying it) is $5.69 at Roche Brothers! That is the reason they do not get five stars. Prices are not only higher there, but substantially higher. They are able to do that because they are in a wealthy community in Wellesley and elderly people like my mother just do what is the most convenient. My mother does home delivery from there and has had a very good experience, so that is nice. Being set in her ways, she will not switch her delivery to another store that has lower prices. I shopped at the store on 11/11/2017 and purchased green tea noodles, oatmeal, etc. After I ate the green tea noodles, I felt sick to my stomach, and I checked the expiration date that showed 8/17/2017 (see images attached)! Then I checked other items purchased and found out this was not the only product that expired! The oatmeal also expired on 11/4/2017! I went to the store and told the store manager that I felt sick to my stomach after eating the noodles that EXPIRED MORE THAN 3 MONTHS ago. The manager REFUSED to compensate (other than just a $4 refund..), and all he said was "Thank you for letting me know. I will go check the products in the aisles". Frequent coding errors in the cashier's system causing pricing errors and missed sale prices. Additionally, many of the employees' attitudes need adjusting particularly the full time employees but not the high school and college age part time workers, i.e. many just go through the motions while at least one acts as if the customers are interrupting her day. One manager not only corrects customers but also will chastise them, ex. putting different colored peppers, all priced equally, into the same produce bag. God forbid the cashier should need to take each one out and ring them up separately which they have to do anyway! and no I do not want to do the self-checkout. I don't work here! read more

Two big disappointments in my most recent visit: the ladies restroom was a mess (and I think the sign claims they clean it hourly?) and they were out of coffee cake muffins. Now THIS is an AMAZING Roche Brothers. Ok, I still prefer my local Super Stop&Shop (in Walpole, since I live 5-10 minutes away, and this is like 15), but this store is extremely clean, has everything you'd need, has wine, a huge bakery, 16 checkout lanes, wide aisles, and lots of price scanners (which I find very helpful). The staff were extremely helpful, and if you have any problem they have no issue resolving it. Prices are a bit more than typical, but in Wellesley it isn't an issue. Plus, it's the best option for a full grocery shopping unless you're a Whole Foods fan (I gotta make a trip there sometime!). Overall, great Roche Brothers.... and ridiculously better than the annoying Needham location, competitive with Westwood & W Rox though.... read more

Roche Brothers is an excellent supermarket with high end customers service. The staff are happy to quickly attend to your needs and answer your questions. The quality of the food is very high. Although it's expensive, the store consists of products that are comparable in quality to those in Whole Foods, yet priced lower. The produce section is varied, fresh and has organic selections. They even have rare delicacy fruits. The bakery has gourmet tarts, cakes, muffins and cookies that will make your mouth water. They bake a lot of it on the premises. They have an extensive sushi counter and will make something to order if you ask. They have a delicious salad and prepared food section. They have a lot of healthy food choices from fish, chicken and yogurt to so called 'tv dinners'' - where they sell healthy brands such as Evol. Their frozen section is well appointed with vegetables. Their dried good aisles similarly are stocked with wholesome versions of most foods offering options that have fewer unhealthy additives. The supermarket is small but that may be an advantage if you wish to quickly get in and out. The customers are generally quite courteous and do not cut in line - that's a huge plus for me. They have a great flower selection as well. They sell both gourmet and regular brands which makes it a place where 'normal' people can find almost all groceries under one roof. The have good free parking and will bring your groceries to your car if you need assistance. If you want to eat well and care for your body this is a great place to shop. read more

Beautiful grocery store, clean, well-lit, with a surprising amount of prepared foods. There's a huge deli, a meat and fish counter, a sushi station, a hot foods on-the-go station (to eat in or take home), a bakery, and hot/cold self-serve bar (salads, etc). Plus, there's a large heat-and-serve area of food made in-house; we get the chicken soup and shepherd's pie now and then when we don't feel like cooking. Oh, and there's an olive and cheese bar. And a really nice cheese section with a cheese island laden with cheese. And specialty chocolate. The only thing you have to watch out for with the cheese island is sometimes there are moldy offerings, but this is more common at the Roche Bros in Natick. Keep your senses sharp, is all I'm saying. They've got a florist, and a counter where you can make catering plans with staff. They have a large collection of Stonewall Kitchen offerings, almost an entire aisle, by the hot food bar. They have a half-aisle of more natural/organic skin and body products, supplements, and fitness bars, and they mostly just incorporate their organic/natural foods in with the rest of their offerings (with the exception of their frozen foods, it's not segregated, so you just have to look, it's all mixed together). Except for their gluten-free section - it's all together, so you've got a bunch of GF stuff at-a-glance. They try a lot of high-end supermarket products, natural/organic things, some of which stay for a long time and some of which cycle out in the clearance section. I like that they carry local brands and produce (When Pigs Fly breads, Captain Marden's frozen fish, etc). I love their home delivery service; I order online, and I like the online ordering system. I wish there were more delivery hours, and I wish that I could order on-demand, rather than having to wait until the next day (90% of the time). There have only been a very few troubles with my delivery orders, that have all been corrected swiftly with a simple phone call. If you've never been to a Roche Bros, be prepared for an interesting check-out feature: the cashier (not you) takes your items out of the cart and puts them on the belt. After your stuff has been paid for, a team member will take your cart to your car for you, also (no tipping allowed, company policy). I rarely take advantage of that particular service, but it's nice to know it's there for me if I feel really sore/tired. The Wellesley Roche Bros has a large donation bin and a large board related to the Wellesley Food Pantry, which is stocked exclusively through resident donations. The board has helpful information about which items the Pantry finds most useful at any given time, and throughout the store, there are even little tags next to the items themselves, that let you know the Food Pantry has a critical need. I find that so helpful when I'm shopping because I can just grab something for the Pantry and put it in the bin, easy as that - and those little "Food Pantry Requested Item" signs really help jog my memory for what it was I was supposed to buy. I can barely remember what I came in to buy for my house, so I'll take all the help I can get. It might be helpful to know that there is a clothing donation box in the parking lot of the complex, since there are so few anywhere in the Wellesley area. read more

When I moved to Wellesley last year I looked for a good, reliable, easy supermarket near me. The old Roche Bros. on Linden street always reminded me of the one in Bridgewater (where I went for undergrad) and that was weird. I then tried the OLD Star Market on Rt. 16 and was very pissed off when food that I paid for repeatedly did not make it home with me! Since I work in Natick, I thought the Stop & Shop on RT. 9 would be my best bet but it wasn't convenient unless I was coming to or going from work! SO the new Roche Brothers opened less than a mile from me in Wellesley and I took my first trip with a grain of salt. I didn't even know it was their grand opening but I was MEGA impressed by the new store. The prepared food just past the deli is super if you need a nice meal quick! The rest of the store is real easy to navigate and I've only found myself lost trying to find plastic utensils ONCE! The only thing that might make your visit a bit rougher is a run in with a large amount of crazy Wellesley moms or the posh older ladies that seem to walk AIMLESSLY right in front of me. Check out has never taken ages like it can @ other stores. I did have an issue with some rich witch checking out in the "15 or Less Line" when all I had was a prepared dinner and a bottle of soda! An amazing prepared food section takes over about 20% of this beautiful store. They have aged steaks, a wing bar, paella bar, sandwiches, pizzas, rotisserie meats and some really tasty-looking cupcakes in the bakery. If you don't want to cook, this is a food fantasyland. The produce section was well-maintained and stocked during peak times, but the produce I purchased was small compared to other grocery stores although the prices were comparable to what I would pay elsewhere for the same items. I did like that you could buy individual celery stalks since I hate buying $3 worth of celery when I only need a small amount. The rest of the store is definitely nicer than the Wellesley Whole Foods, with half an aisle dedicated to Stonewall Kitchen products and a few aisles of organic and natural food products. You can get also mainstream products which aren't available at Whole Foods, although the variety/selection is smaller than your average chain grocery store. We could do most of our shopping here, but still needed to go to Stop N Shop for some items/flavors that were not available here. The plastic bags were flimsy and broke right away, even though they were double-bagged. The clientele is a bit obnoxious/pretentious, so the shopping experience can be a bit intense. While we were waiting to check out, kids were running around unattended while parents were still running to get items they had forgotten, and other customers were cutting in front of us to buy potato chips displayed in our check-out aisle. The register tape also ran out, so we waited about 20 minutes and were only the second one in line. The area has many other retailers, which puts more pressure on the limited number of parking spots... although their location across the street had terrible parking and Whole Foods is a nightmare, too. It's an absolutely beautiful store, but I'm not sure it's worth the stress if you can't get everything you need and still need to visit another store to round out your list. read more

So I was wandering around here the other day... No duck breast, it's seasonal and the last time they had it was around Christmas... Oh well, guess that means more hitting up Dewar's on a Saturday if I plan to use it that week... I was browsing the shelves and found their selection both wonderful and interesting. Wonderful in that they carry Lake Champlain chocolates... at least the five-star bars and the tiny Chocolates of Vermont truffle boxes... I wish they had the solid bars available. But stocking Valrhona 3 kilo baker's bars for my cooking makes my hunts easier so that I don't have to pray my shipment arrives in the mail. Unfortunately, they are $11-$12/pound as opposed to $70 per bar when I ship in... I did find some... peculiar products. They sell Branston Pickle, for one... but even more curiously, next to the Branston Pickle is a product I personally had not seen before but could not help but stifle laughter when I saw it: Heinz Spotted Dick Sponge Pudding. I will let you make up your own jokes... I fear I could not find what I was looking for to cook that day (decent littlenecks and duck), needing to go to plan B and rush take-out from Fiorella's, but their selection is always intriguing. One of the best grocery stores I've ever been to besides Wegman's. Clean as can be, well stocked, and some of the best service you'll find in a super market. (Besides Wegman's) I went there the day before Thanksgiving, twice. In the morning and again at night. Both times I went full of apprehansion and down-right dread... But it was fine. Perfectly fine. Better than usual, in fact. Morning trip: I just needed 7 or 8 things, and I was in and out in 30 minutes. Most of that was spent looking for parking. All checkout counters were open, the lines were short, and these are the fastest checkers on earth. And I have never had one of them make a mistake. Since I was in a rush, I asked the cheese folks to recommend stuff to eat with the cheese-plate appetizer. "What kind of cheese do you have?" I tell them, and immediately they direct me to the best crackers and accoutrement for each. They had this amazing fig preserve stuff for the cheddar -- everyone at the party loved it. Some of the morning items were not even for Thanksgiving, but were items that I cannot seem to find near my home in Vermont, like my favorite tea. Evening: We came again after dinner (we thought we might need one more Thanksgiving dessert and needed some ingredients). It was still crowded, but they *actually* had expediters at the end of practically every aisle! Dressed in suits! Are these folks from upper management? The Roche family themselves!?!?! They were so happy to ask you what you are looking for, and even happier still to walk you to the location! (Funny story: I had texted my sister before I went to see if she needed anything. I texted again once I got there. As I am leaving, getting in my car, she texts me: "am leaving Roche Brother's now." We were both there, arrived and left around the same time, and never even say each other. It's that big.) Best prices, best service, best selection. Easily, the best grocer/market in the area. It is situated between a Citizen's Bank and CVS as well as all sorts of neat shops. Basically, it's a one-stop shop for your required weekly shopping sprees/visit. The only downside is the parking lot. In the morning, the parking lot tends to fill up but as morning becomes evening, more spaces are available. However, as a college student who doesn't see the light of day (which comes with sleeping in so late), this Roche Bros solves all my eating problems (and disorders). read more

This place is like the Nordstrom of supermarkets, but I just wanted to write a bit about the employees here. I come in here all the time and am always impressed at how hard everyone is working. This afternoon I wanted some of the pre-made food that is served cafeteria style from one of the delis. It is a big station, and an exceptional employee named Sue walked around with me and helped me make the best choices with what I was looking for. She also showed me where to find other things I wanted. The store has so many options and I was grateful to get such amazing service from an employee, especially when I was hungry and would not have gone home with the best selection without Sue. She was very friendly, and it was great to chitchat about the Patriots game. The guys in the wine and beer section are also wonderful. When the store stopped selling an organic wine (Girasole!) there was an older gentleman who sat on hold for me just to find out if the other stores still had any, and when they didn't, recommended another nice wine. Another time a younger guy took the time to tell me all about the beers and picked a couple he knew I would like (I wish I was better with names, he went to college in Fitchburg). The women in the bakery in the daytime who will point out which items are freshly baked and patiently explain what is what in their endless garden of delicious desserts. When you check out, the employees at the front will actually help you to your car with all your groceries and load your car for you. You are not allowed to tip them, which is the reason I am giving Roche four starts instead of five - your employees are amazing and deserve tips! This type of service doesn't exist in other places in 2015 and it is your employees who go the extra mile and deserve more than an hourly wage with the stress they must be under with the clientele there. I won't let them slave over my groceries in this manner because I cannot imagine making someone do this for me and NOT tip them. Roche Bros, I really hope you are giving your fantastic staff the wages and recognition that they all deserve. ___ I agree with the woman who raved about the fruit tart, it is also my favorite item. Drive down Linden Street in Wellesley and you can't help but notice the wrecking balls destroying the old flagship Roche Brothers supermarket building. Then look directly across the street at the spiffy new GIGANTIC Roche Brothers flagship. This is a temple to the 21st century supermarket ideal. The store has a heavy emphasis on prepared foods. There's even a whole row of Stonewall Kitchen stuff. And you have Roche's legendary good service. 3/2/14Coke is $1 Have I abandoned Roche Bros entirely,not really .I watch for sales if Coke is $1, I go down there. .I like their brand bread ,on occasion they have a good price on meat .The thing that set me off about the pricing at Roche was their crescent rolls ,which until they went to $3.99 from $2.99 overnight caused me to evaluate everything I was buying here .Today I bought the same crescent rolls at Market Basket (get this ) $1.89 ,$2.10 cheaper and I couldn't taste the difference .Cabot's butter 2 for $4 ,cider $3.99 for a gal instead of $6.99 .Barbecued chicken a Perdue yet $4.69 that is their regular price ,Roche has a sale one day a week for $5 but it's a very small chicken smaller than my Perdue .I buy most of my meat at Costco ,and nothing beats their value in any market Yes I have to drive to Burlington for now ,but not for long ,Market Basket has been building a huge store where Polaroid used to be and that should open soon .As I try to demonstrate I saved about $6 on the three items I mentioned .Market Basket is a very busy store ,and one understands why ,it's their pricing and they take another 4% off your total bill at checkout..In Wellesley there is no competition anymore now that Shaws is gone ,so Whole Foods & Roche carve up the market .It's too bad you have to drive a few miles to not overpay for groceries. 11/21/2014 For me there is good news ,Market Basket is opening their newest market in Waltham along RT128 at the old Polaroid plant Thanksgiving week .I drove by their store it's huge .I heard 40 cash registers ,the store was supposed to open in Oct but if you remember the huge strike that slowed it down.I think the country found out what loyalty is all about .The customers just love this store as I do ,and like the idea they are getting the best prices anywhere .Now I will stop shopping at Roche Bros and go here and save big ,truly . read more

We only go in here for discreet items because it is such a poorly run store. Lots of employees, no longer good service, high prices, and quality seems to be slipping (bakery particularly). This week's example: Stopped in to go to the deli (one kid prefers RB's shaved ham for some reason). 4 employees were at the deli. 3 men who worked in the deli and one woman who was hanging out at the end of the deli counter, but not doing anything else. Of the men, one was slicing cheese on a machine that he would come and go from as it worked, another was moving between a slicing machine and the back room (not carrying meats or cheeses, just going in and out) and the third was wiping down a counter. I stood there for a few minutes - there were no other customers waiting at the deli at all. I was not acknowledged by any of them, although the man cleaning was more than happy to talk to the woman at the end of the counter (apparently she is named Celia, whose name was pretty, and he had an aunt named Celia and she was Italian....). I finally said something and the man who had been been going back and forth between the back room and the running cheese slicer helped me, albeit begrudgingly. It took him less than a minute to grab the presliced ham, put it in a bag and slap a sticker on it. I asked the customer service representative if I could talk to the deli manager about what happened and she indicated that he was not in the store. Maybe when the cat is away, the deli mice will play? In any event, if you go, bring your patience and be prepared to be treated poorly if (1) the staff deems that you look like you live in Wellesley and presuppose that you have an uppity attitude (you may not live there or have said attitude) or (2) the staff decides you don't look like you live in Wellesley (I fit this category when I was there because I had come from a long day at work and looked like I had been hit by a truck) and they presuppose that you are not worth bothering with (so they will talk to Celia and generally hope that if you are ignored, you will just walk away). I hope the guy at least gets a date with Celia if that is what he was working so hard to do. read more

Moving to Boston and shopping at Shaws makes me miss Roche Brothers dearly. Its great, yes pricey but worth for the selection and experience. Their produce section is great, nicely stocked and good quality. They can have good sales on organic items and have a fantastic frozen organic section. They always have what I want. Its my go to grocery store when I need some standard items and a Whole Foods break. I have mostly encountered really nice people here. They are very good at bagging and helping you to your car. They will specially order things for you if you ask. It can get busy but nothing that bad. read more

The store is nice and clean the the staff is helpful. I frequently hit the salad bar and it can sometimes have older lettuce but for the most part is passable. The pre-made food is also convenient. The biggest grip I have is the parking, it stinks. The spots are slightly to small. I had my car hit by an old guy as he tried to park. The manager was kind enough to let me look over the parking lot security footage so I could give his plate number to the cops. read more
