This Market Basket is perpetually packed. Hard to find a time the parking lot is empty. Selection is good. Meat department is accommodating on request. Produce department is average. The line at the deli is hit or miss depending on when you go, I'v waited 40 minutes on a Sun morning one time, and had one of our legally challenged immigrant friends(no shortage of those there) try to cut me in line without a ticket!!!! I notice employees stocking shelves, filling in produce ,etc. If you can't locate an item, someone will try to help you,or they will find someone to help you. There is nothing ostentatious or slick or glitzy about Market Basket. The decor throws you back to the seventies or eighties, It really does. It looks very basic, but the prices and service is also very retro. I like Trader Joes alot and I shop there, but I shop for everything else at Market Basket. There are no special cards to carry to get the best price. What you see is what you get and the prices are reasonable on all fronts. Their store brand is also generally very good and comparable to leading brands. They do very well and the lines on the weekend reflect their popularity. It is a keeper. read more

Literally the worst market basket I've EVER been too. Mostly because the aisles are tiny and the place is EXTREMELY crowded even during the week in the middle of the day. Staff is so so, some better than others. I don't appreciate people smoking right outside the store so when I'm in the checkout I get to inhale cigarette smoke. This location is close to where I live, and more often than not, I drive all the way to Waltham, because it is a much better store. This place has a bad reputation in town (bring up the name Market Basket and eyes will roll). BUT I have to say it's sooo much better than Stop & Shop on Temple St in Framingham. It's much cheaper for starters. And the staff and the people restocking actually get out of your way, let you go first, they understand that you are trying to shop. You have to be smart about shopping here. You can't go at peak hours, you just can't or you will go mental. Your first few times, it will take you a while to understand where everything is. They like to use every inch of space they have so don't forget to look above the freezers that are at your waist to see what they have stacked there. This store has improved a lot over the last 10 years. I remember when the produce was all prepackaged and I couldn't buy a single onion; now you can pick your own amongst a vast array of exotic fruits and vegetables as well as a lot of organic varieties. I also recall mostly processed foods; again there seem to be a lot more organic foods. They have a big international section and many of the foods have a Latin American/Portuguese influence. Market Baskets are about as good of a value as you'll find in super markets, and the Ashland location is no exception. I travel way out of my way to shop there because of the HUGE savings on just about everything. And the cashiers and stockers couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. Nothing compares! Even Wal-Mart and Target's new grocery offerings don't come close in price. Don't waste your time and money, go to Market Basket. If you want a sanitized suburban shopping experience, go to Stop& Shop and pay 25% more. If you want to walk out of your grocery store feeling virtuous and elite, go to Whole Foods and pay 30-35% more. If you need to feed your family on a limited budget and you are willing to buy raw ingredients and cook, go to Market Basket. There is just no comparison. Yes, lots of people who go there don't speak English. Get over it - we all need to eat. Yes, they stock constantly because they do so much volume - minor inconvenience given the savings. For the most part, I like MB; the food price is relatively cheaper than other stores, and unlike many other stores, I have never experienced any unwarranted starring in suspicion for shop lifting being cased upon me while shopping. Great customer service if you are dealing with any of the managers. The customer service desk isn't very friendly that is why I took 1 star off. I have had a great experience with all the cash register employees (except 1) over the last 11 years of shopping there. In comparison Shaws (in Ashland) customer service is seriously flawed and you are paying way more for the same items. I sure wish they would expand since they have a huge following of customers but I still love this grocery store. You can't beat the prices. They are usually stocked with what I need but if they aren't they are sure to order what I need and if you are dealing directly with a manager they call to let you know when the item is received. I'll sometimes go to other places and pay a bit more so I don't have 92,781 people running into my ankles with their carriages and acting like nothing happened. You can't fault a business for being busy. They're there to make money. But a random Tuesday at this place is like the day before Thanksgiving. I moved to Framingham 6 years ago and began Grocery shopping at Market Basket in Ashland,Ma. I have never shopped anywhere else since, besides when the boycott was in effect.I love This store and recently became employed by them as well. The staff are wonderful and always have been helpful as well. Whenever my parents are visiting from R.I. they always bring a cooler so they can stop in and shop the prices are low so you don't have to wait for special savings or have a card to acquire the sale prices Market Basket is the best store ever. Very disappointed....Way too crowded in the narrow isles of a small area!....to top it off...they have displays in the isle! Price is good but not worth the hassle of the trip..... I love Market Basket because it's cheap and they have a good variety of food. Of course, you have to deal with the crowds, the crates of food/dairy waiting to be stocked that you have to move around, and it might be just me but it always seemed less clean than Stop & Shop... Still, I love the prices and many of the people behind the deli counter are super-nice. My one big issue with them at the moment (why I'm giving 3 stars) is because, unbeknownst to me, I bought a Market Basket brand box of mac n cheese that was infected with grain beetles (if you don't know what they are, I hope you never have to find out. Imagine cooking your pasta & seeing tiny beetles and larvae suddenly float to the top). They've spread thru my entire pantry! I can't get rid of them! I've had to throw out everything and have scrubbed the pantry twice and they still survive.... all my food had to be sealed in zip lock bags which, ironically, I bought at Market Basket. I tried to contact the corporation to tell them about my fluke bug mac n cheese, but they apparently don't have a way to contact them. Demoulas website stated that any complaints they receive will automatically be deleted. I still like Market Basket and continue to shop there, but I wish this particular one were a little bit... cleaner... read more

Get there early (on weekends) or else your in for a LONG trip to the grocery store - and by early I mean pre-10AM. After 10AM the place gets infested with people (Oh, the humanity!!!) and it takes a while to navigate the small isles and you'll wait a good 15-25 minutes in line alone. Now that you've swallowed that, enjoy the $50 a week in savings that my family does. This place is MUCH cheaper (not a little, A LOT) than Shaws or Stop & Shop. It must be because of the low wages they pay their employees and the rent they pay on this all too small, run down building. I've been a Market Basket customer for more than ten years. Who can argue with the best overall prices and good quality. I've somewhat recently started going to the Ashland store on my way home from work to do my grocery shopping. It's not their best store, but it's pretty darn good for such a tiny store. I'd say that, despite it's compact size, this store crams about 90% of what the average sized Market Basket has in. Complaints would be that a lot of employees don't speak English so asking for help is 50/50, but when they do understand you, they're very helpful, and because of the store's small size, the aisles are very narrow and they do run out of stuff. Honestly, if some of the customers were more courteous the narrow aisles would be less of a problem. It's still rare that I can't find what I need here, and when there are 1 or 2 items I can't get at this store, I just go down to the Shaw's down the street to complete my list. Honestly, I like this tiny Market Basket, it works for me and like any Market Basket, you cannot beat the prices. The other thing that stinks and this is not Market Basket's fault at all, is that Ashland banned not only "regular" plastic bags but they also banned those 10¢ environmentally friendly plastic bags that I thought were a good compromise. So, one rainy Friday when my stupid reusable bags were not enough for my order, all my paper bags got soggy in the rain - but again, that's the fault of some eco warrior in the town of Ashland, not Market Basket. Small crowded aisles, dated layout, and lots of non-english speaking employees (and customers). I guess if your customers speak portugese, your emploiyees should too, but it is frustrating to shop in a mainstream supermarket in surbuban Boston and have trouble communication with the staff in plain english! I would say I'm a regular customer of the Ashland market basket and have been satisfied with both the selection and customer service. However recently it seems they have brought on a new manager that I must say is unlike anyother. His dimeanor and the way he treats his employees is very aggressive and unprofessional. He literally commands them around like a 5 star general! You sense that by the tone of his voice - belittling them and speaking down to them ( very unprofessional ). The look on the employees faces says it all. Usually you see happy and smiling employees and that unfortunately has faded away. They all look very scared of him seeming as if their walking on eggshells. I really hope this changes as it makes me feel stressed walking into the store not knowing what to see from the manager. Unless he wants to lose many good and hardworking employees - he needs to tone it down. Otherwise I'm going to shop else where - all this because I fear going into that store. read more

This is the cheapest grocery store I've found in the area. The quality is good, the store is clean, and the staff is friendly.

Good prices and even some healthy foods. Crowded and Hard to maneuver up and down aisles plus they are adding stock to shelves at the same time. I was in line for 25 minutes with some of my things needing refrigeration or the freezer... While a woman was counting out her money, needing more from her pocketbook and not finding it, on and on it went. Took all of my patience but hung in there. The bathroom was the biggest eyesore of all with paper towels all over the floor toilet paper all over the floor. paper towels overflowing on the top of the basket. it was quite the site of dirtiness and messiness and I really suggest that they try-even though it is so busy-to maintain the bathrooms. It takes a warrior to go to Market Basket for some of them stores depending on the location and if they did particular upgrades. I think I can shop in half the time at Shaws, and the prices are not that horrible and sometimes even better, and it is cleaner, less of a challenge to go up and down the aisles and buy food-but every now and then I try to give it another go at Market Basket. I do know that there are some market baskets that are better- like in Westford or Hudson. read more
