Unfortunately, their Fresh Pass delivery service does not include items on sale so for $99/year it is not worth the cost.

Keep your eyes open for "best by" and "expiration" dates on all food, particularly in the meat dept. I have seen expired sausage, ground beef, meatballs (and also moldy blackberries and strawberries in the produce dept). As someone who managed the meat and seafood departments in a large grocery store in the Midwest, I am aware of and always check for outdated food that can sometimes get mistakenly overlooked by the employees but it happens too often here. Worse, when you can smell the seafood or meat when you're halfway down an aisle approaching it, that is an absolute red flag for bacteria growth. I don't love giving negative reviews but when fresh food is involved you risk serious illness by consuming anything that should have no odor whatsoever. Just sayin'! Buyer beware read more

Over the course of time, I have learned that Shaw's basically stops stocking sale items for the last day of the sales week, which has been Thursday. I know that if I don't stop by Wednesday of the sales week to forget about getting the sales items. BUT, today, Wednesday, I stopped at this poor excuse of a Shaw's to pick up sales items. NONE OF THEM WERE STOCKED! It wasn't even 11:00 and empty spaces! There were hardly any workers in the aisles either. Screw Shaws! The " manager" talks over you and makes it seem like you are the one with the issue and looks at you like you are crazy and have no clue what is going on in the world. I really want to like this store. It's on the smaller side, but the staff is nice, and the produce usually looks pretty fresh. However, I often go here for sales, and I am ALWAYS overcharged at the register. I usually need to spend upwards of 10 minutes with customer service after checkout to get back most of what I was overcharged. They never apologize, and they act like they expect it to happen and hope customers just don't notice. It is completely unethical. I blame the corporate office as the issues are generally with the Just4U app discounts. They really need to fix this ongoing problem, but it doesn't seem to be a priority for them as they will keep making more money until their customers just stop coming out of frustration. read more

All the employees at Shaw's Ashland are awesome. It's the upper management that has it's head on backwards. Their f--ked up business model is terribly wrong and I will never put 1 foot inside that store again until the Shaw's sign comes down and the Kroger sign goes up. Shaw's merchandising boarders on bait and switch. Their self serve check out isn't able to give you the price you pay on the screen. You don't know what you're paying until you pay. Deplorable place to go shopping if you need fast checkout service. They do not have enough cashier help. Normally I go to Self Checkout but today, with a week's worth of shopping, I was in line at the only open cashier! One other line, which had their open light off, seemed to be still taking customers. I tried to get the cashier's attention to see if I could join that line..no luck. When he finally looked up and saw three folks now in line he slammed his fist on the light I dicating Open and had a total meltdown in front of all of us. I plan to host to Market Basket from now on. The only location that I can reliably find eggs, during the Covid 19 situation! Shaw's doesn't have staff wiping down carts or baskets, but they do offer supplies to do it yourself, which is my preference. Some shelves are low in product, but in better shape then other stores in my neighborhood! Keep up the good work! read more

I never really wanted to write a review for a supermarket, but I can't put this off any longer. This store is becoming unshoppable and as other supermarkets are getting cleaner and stocked better this Shaw's is worse every time I visit. Shelves are not stocked, aisles are cluttered, staff is indifferent, checkout is not well staffed ever, baggers are slow and obviously don't care, employees are out front smoking on the sidewalk, carts are a mess and most importantly, I often can't get what I went in for. This simply doesn't have to be this way anymore. We're past the worst of Covid, and this store not only hasn't recovered, but is actually getting progressively worse. They are managing to make even the most basic and fundamental supermarket tasks seem impossible, and I can't believe that I now have to travel many miles to shop at a competitor. I've been shopping at Shaw's Ashland for 16 years. The place continues on a downward slide and has reached the point of no return for me as a regular shopper. They lack help and the majority of the help they have isn't trained or simply doesn't care. Last weekend, I had a cashier who after finished ringing me up, put his hands in his pockets and watched. He only used a single hand to actual ring up the groceries. The baggers have no clue how to pack and bag and I often just prefer to pack my own. The good employees seem to be have been run out of the store by management The store is expensive, food is often on shelves past dates, always need to check dates carefully. Fruits like berries are put out on Saturday and if not refreshed again until the next Saturday. Never buy strawberries at Shaw's on a Thursday/Friday, you are getting week old food. Shelves are not restocked when they should be. The pre-cut at the deli clearly gets relabeled and put back the next day if it doesn't sell through, just taste the product. I will only get fresh cut deli meats. The meat quality is pretty good if fresh cut, but often times they have a single person. Multiple times in the past year I've waited and walked away from the deli counter due to the lack of help. The fish market, one of the saving graces has seen its quality/variety go down recently as well. Its a dirty, poorly run store, with employees that don't care. Its time to try something new for a while. I might miss the convenience and I'm sure that will make me come back from time to time, but I'll move my shopping somewhere else. read more

I worked at Shaw's for three years and it was nothing short of traumatic. Every employee there is extremely underpaid and over worked. I would end my shifts drenched in sweat from sprinting back and forth between a register and the self checkout which fails to ever function properly. The J4U app for customer discounts is purposefully confusing so that people don't get the discounts they deserve. Employees then have to bear the brunt of upset customers because of this disfuctional app. Throughout my tenure at Shaw's I was entitled to four raises, each worth 25 cents added to the minimum wage. However, once the minimum wage in Massachusetts increased, management decided to wipe out our raises. This meant employees who had worked for 3,5,7, etc. years were getting the exact same pay as those who had just been hired. When I tried asking for a raise two weeks ago because I was being paid the same as newly hired workers- our store manager Ryan Brumley, belittled and bullied me for 20 minutes, before giving me the raise. Shaw's has the resources to pay their employees fairly, but chooses not to. I have co-workers who we're working full-time (40+ hours a week) and still making under 15 an hour. If Shaw's Ashland had the ability to renovate their entire store last year, they should be able to properly compensate their workers. Albertsons (The Shaw's parent company) full-year 2021 net income totaled 1.62 billion dollars, while its employees barely make ends meet. Store manager Ryan Brumley has done nothing but create a hostile work environment since he arrived at Ashland's Shaws roughly 6 months after I was hired. He has cut hours and wages among all the employees, and is extremely biased against female workers. My title at Shaw's is called CSR. CSR's make up a handful of workers who run the front end of the store. When Ryan came he barely interacted with me, he directed all his questions and comments to my male counterparts. Similar things have happened to managers working below Ryan. Many of the men would be praised by Ryan for their hard work, while the female managers were mostly ignored. Overall, Shaw's is an awful place to both work and shop. read more

The prices are high but if you pay attention to the "real sales" you can be in and out without spending too much. Do your price comparison and get the majority at Market Basket and get the sale items from Shaw's. Their meats are good, produce a bit pricy. The store is clean and easy to get around with plenty of parking. read more

I used to go to Shaw's every day for my breaks/meal. I stopped going there when I noticed their produce wasn't being taken care of. My advice is, hire someone or have someone be in charge of only checking all the aisles for spoiled/ bad stuff. Market Basket is very close to you guys and I've never ever seen anything like this there, and they're CHEAPER. So whats up with that? This is an awesome location, very close to my job and my house. But unfortunately, will be looking to go the extra mile for better quality products. I now prefer Stop'n'Shop or Market Basket :) Or a Shaw's Market at another location because this one with no doubt, SUCKS. read more

Oh dear. The average for this store is 2 stars. How. It's the best Shaw's.... guess people here in Ashland don't actually value this place since Market Basket is down the street (which is ok, I guess). Anyway, most of these reviews are really not correct. This store is large, not the size of a shoebox. The staff are around and I only dealt with the one at the deli, since they have the AMAZING Self Checkout I love! (which will be explained).And he was friendly, kind, and helpful. The store overall, isn't remodeled like other Shaw's or Star Markets, yet isn't extremely old, and seemed very organized and clean. The price scanners were all working and nothing was expired. For the best part, this Shaw's had Self Checkout!!!!! All of the other, more remodeled locations got rid of it (which is why I prefer Stop&Shop), and therefore I tend to not go there as often. Still the Ashland Shaw's is not as good as my favorite, local Stop&Shop, but it's definitely a good supermarket (and one of the better ones I've visited recently). Plus, the parking lot is large and not crowded. Easy to get in and out. read more

The prices are reasonable. The customer service is absolutely horrendous. The supervisors at the front are rude and condescending to both customers and employees, especially the Asian woman with glasses. How she is still employed in a customer service related position is truly mind boggling. She has been rude to me on several occasions, and I have witnessed her act the same way to other customers. This Shaw's is usually pretty quiet and not filled with a lot of annoying people. The shelves are always stocked well so that makes me happy. Checkout is a breeze too. This statement probably goes against the laws of the sushi gods, but the brown rice sushi at this Shaw's is pretty good IMO. Since I haven't found a palatable place to eat sushi around here, this is my source for half-way decent spicy rolls. The sushi chef seems like a nice guy and is willing to customize an order for you if you don't see what you want. For about $6 I usually get the combo of 12 pieces of tuna, shrimp and salmon. read more

I just left the express checkout and I'm super annoyed. Jeff C didn't say hello much less ask how I was but when he was finished checking me out and before handing me a receipt made a point to comment on the # of items I had. Really? Did you count them as you weren't being friendly because I did? I visit Shaw's weekly because I have a big family. Having a big family means big money spent in your store weekly!!!! When I called to discuss this over the phone instead of blasting it here I was also put on hold for 7 mins before I hung up yet customer service knew it was an unhappy customer! I'm sure Stop n Shop that is an equal distance to my home will appreciate our spending much more, be nicer and care that someone was unhappy with service since I spend well over $500 in your store monthly!! I am highly disappointed at the heartlessness of this store. They have a sale on Coke right now. I care for three disabled elderly people at the complex where I live. They wanted the Coke sale so I went to Ashland Shaws. I have done this before, about twice a year, so I know to head directly to customer service. The person at Customer Service refused to help me ring 4 orders. She demanded phone numbers of each person that I was buying for. I felt uncomfortable releasing their private information. The staff at this location is amazing!!! We came to get a cake for an anniversary gathering we were having and it was right before closing. There wasn't anyone at the bakery and the assistant director Patrick and another employee also named Patrick went above and beyond to make what we needed happen. Also when going to check out they were extremely nice. This is def. Going to be my favorite grocery store to shop. They made our night!!! read more

I've shopped here over 20 years and the shopping experience has steadily declined. Here are a few examples. 1) They removed the 4 self-serve checkouts which were almost always available. 2) They added 3 fast checkouts which are often not manned after 8pm despite long lines at the standard checkouts. 3) Their front end employees including their supervisors often stand around talking to one another instead of providing service. Tonight for instance 3-4 stood around at a closed register even though there were long lines at the only two open registers. 4) Sales items are mismarked. Sales tags aren't removed sometimes after the sale ends. Sales tags are confusing. eg- $1 for 2 liter soda unless you buy 10 in which case it is .79. $1 per unit but only if you but 10. 3 for $5 even though you can buy one at the sales price. 5) Items are expensive unless they are on sale. 6) Items are removed from the store and not brought back even when requested multiple times. if it wasn't so convenient to my home I'd go elsewhere. read more

Make sure to check the expiration dates on products. I recently almost bought a frozen cake that was supposed to be thrown out over a month ago. And this is not the first or second time I find expired products. Overall this place has been a steady 'meh. I've experienced better' for at least the last 8 years. We have shopped at Shaw's Ashland for years. I have found that the produce is very good, usually better than Market Basket. And for those who claim that Market Basket is cheaper, I say not - if you join the Just for U promotional program. Loads of special prices available online and you just put your phone number in while checking out and you get the special pricing on items you selected. Plus there are extra points that can get you $10 off a purchase of $10 or more! That can be 33% off a $30 purchase! read more

This store is horrible. 1- The produce selection is very small, and what there is of mediocre quality 2- Deli Counter service is very slow. The pre packaged selection is OK, but they seem to purposely oversize the packages. I rarely need 1 pound of deli meat or cheese. 3- They removed the self check out which was one of the only reason I went there usually. 4 - Sketchy employees. I am all for hiring anybody qualified to work, but some of these people are truly creepy and I really don't want them touching my food. 5- Salad bar - each bin has a set of small tongs which end up sitting on top of the food. People pick them up, use them, then put them back on the food. How many hands touch those every day ? you do the math ... 6- I find that their rotisserie chickens are routinely undercooked 7- Bins for the rolls and bagles ten to have gnats flying around in them. I like this Shaw's. They have some competitive prices on produce and other items, nice selection of organic foods, good bakery and a nice variety of salads in the deli section. The people who work in the store have good attitude and the manager went completely out of his way to locate some gluten-free products I was looking for. This Shaw's location is large but not well managed. I've had uncomfortable check out experiences and agree with others that the cashiers are often talking amongst themselves even while customers are waiting.. however my biggest disappointment is with the produce.. I guess this location doesn't get frequented enough -- the arugula smelled as though it had gone bad yet no fresher options available .. and same with other foods.. save yourself the hassle and drive 5 minutes down the road to MB. read more

This grocery store has a lot of vegetarian/vegan options, hence the two stars. However, during my trip there this morning, while at the fish counter, I was treated very poorly by the man, Steve, who was working behind the counter. The first time I walked by, he stared at me long enough to make me feel uncomfortable for looking at my options. When I reapproached the counter, he was very rude and acted as if I was interrupting his coffee break. Had the woman working the sushi counter not told me to ring the bell, I would have not been waited on for who knows how long, as they don't have anybody behind the butcher shop or seafood side of that particular counter. Shaws weekly sales can now rival MB. That's what often draws me in. The produce section is not the freshest, and I often think the prices are high on certain products. Today I saw the manager walk to the bakery department, get a donut out of the fresh baked cabinet, and walked backed to the front eating it! I have been frequenting this Shaw's as it's close to home and has a good bakery( reason for two stars). Other than that the produce is very limited both in variety and quantity and overpriced. The deli has never been much of a good experience. Checkout is always a wait with not even a single self checkout counter and most of the time even though they may have many employees around they just keep one or two counters open and everyone has to wait around forever. But the worst thing about the place that has me deciding not to go there again is the staff. The younger staff do their job, though very aloof and least courteous except for a few. The older staff are mostly condescending and leave me feeling very bad at the end of the checkout. I don't understand why they as customer service members should be treating people so. Unless they change up their staff or train them better I wouldn't want to go there again. I don't go to a store and buy their products so that I end up insulted and sour. Market basket is just a bit further down the road. You get everything there and at a much better price and nobody treats you like garbage. read more
