Awful location. The parking lot is a disaster, people drive like maniacs, not caring if you're walking in the crosswalk or not. Went here right before they were going to close. I hate people who do that, but there I was. The first item I needed was in stock. Meat department was emptying the shelves. But instead of just ignoring me, they asked if they could help and stopped doing what they needed to get done. Not one, but all 3. Impressed with them going above and beyond. I then found stuff on my way to the register that was less expensive than other places, so I grabbed them. Worst experience I've ever had at a Market Basket. My feelings were hurt by a rude employee named Caitlyn who wears glasses. She denied me service for a reason that only she knows. This morning a little after 11:30, I tried to pay for my item at customer service and she lied to me by saying that they don't allow people to buy anything there, adding that this policy has been in place for a long while. I made a purchase there last Thursday at the same time. I told Caitlyn and she was ready to argue. I walked away. The next cashier that helped me could see that I was hurt, so she asked me if I was ok. She apologized and told me that Caitlyn was not being honest. I'm so disappointed. I wonder what about my appearance bothered Caitlyn? I didn't think people up here acted like that. I'm so disappointed. read more

The sales associate, Leah (that has been there for over a year apparently) was running the 12 items or less line tonight. There was one individual in front of me, that paid with three different forms of payments-cash, ebt, and a gift card. The receipt machine wasn't working, the customer kept asking to take things off, and only put so much on one card, then try it again for a dollar less, then try it again-like, get it together! She could have at least stepped aside and figured out her balances on her cards and let others with places to be get on with our lives. I'm not joking when I say that I waited 15 minutes in line behind this single person, and who knows how long she had been there before I walked up to the register! Three people behind me actually walked off, this was the only short item line open. The cashier had no sense of urgency, or any drive to even ask for help. This was my biggest issue. Market basket never has enough registers open, so this just added to my frustration. Finally another associate came over and helped, and good thing he did, because it seemed she had no idea how to fix whatever issue she was having when he came over and resolved all problems within a minute. I usually don't have anything bad to say about this place, I love their wide selection of everything but when I walk past 2 employees talking shit about a CUSTOMER who is having trouble walking due to what might be a medical condition is beyond UNACCEPTABLE!!!!! I wish they would do something about the bad smell around the fish counter and deli, Its an ammonia based odor, some days its not too bad, other days its really nasty. I have spoke to them on several occasions and the reply is " I don't smell anything"; most likely that is because they are working in it all day and have become used to it. I have spoke with other people about it and the general consensus is its a drainage problem in the fish counter. read more

I come here because the prices are good and the produce selection is pretty great. They add lots of interesting, vegan foods, and I can get a lot of what I need here. But it's the brightest store I've ever been in (painfully bright) if that sort of thing bothers you. Go early in the day, or it's mobbed. read more

If you go between the hours of noon and six, expect there to be a bit of a wait. There never seems to he enough registers open or just to many people in the store. It's by no means a bad store, it's on par with every other market basket. Cashiers are friendly. Can't really review this store, because I can't get into the actual store--it is WAY too crowded and because of my severe case of social anxiety, it's not likely to happen anytime soon. Worst place to shop. Unless you like rotten fruit , hamburger goes brown next day. Got onions 9/28/18 got home opened bag all rotten but 2. Would not return I lost receipt and they were Market Basket brand. Got bananas they were yellow and looked ok, next day opened up one to eat brown and rotten inside. Same for all fruits o get. Be careful. They have lower prices but if your throwing away half of it not worth it. Hannaford is more money but better quality. Shaws better quality as well. And I haven't even started on rest of issues...long wait times, mad people everywhere...parking full.... Not worth it. The weird dude behind the counter finally came to me after waiting a long time. They have so many things on their counter they can not see people. When you try to get seafood stuff you don't pick a number. Even if I'm not tall neither is one of the woman working behind the counter. It's annoying the lobster is behind closed doors. Shaw's even Walmart keep their tanks in the open. The weird looking man gave dead lobsters. You pay a lot for lobsters I expect them to be live and kicking like the sign says. I'm taking it home to make something. Not having steam it. So I want it alive. Need to fix this system. Only thing good about this store is all Asian stuff is in one aisles unlike other Market Basket each Asian stuff is what's close to what American food are. Which is very confusing. So this is the only good thing going for this store. And roomy to walk. But I give 2 stars for that guy who gave me dead lobsters. Couldn't bring it back did something to eat. Normally I read reviews to base my decision on, however, I am shocked at all the bad reviews. Over the past 45 years that I have been shopping, most of my excursions have been to MB. Yes I will shop sales from other stores in my immediate area, but I had the time. I was a stay at home for many years. The budget was a tight one for us. I loved MB so much I even went to work for them. Most of the issues that I have read here are not particular to this company. Everywhere I go, I see the same struggles. You got something rotten? Maybe you didn't pay attention to what you were picking up (produce)? Your frozen dinner went bad? Maybe someone had it in the their cart for an hour and it defrosted? You stood in line because someone had to use three methods to pay? So what! If you are in a hurry, find out what time is best to shop! I just wonder how many complainers live a perfect life, make the perfect decisions and have no stress? Just remember... when you point the finger at someone, there are three more pointing back at you! Instead of bitching online about this, take it to the manager... and if the manager does nothing, then write to the head of the company. This is how change happens!!! I do take issue with the checkout lines. Normally if they see that there are lines forming, they will call someone to the front to open a register. My biggest beef is, instead of asking for someone next in line at the register next to them, the person at the back of the line in the next line, runs up and jumps in front of whoever is attempting to move their cart into that line. "Sorry, I am in a hurry!" is no excuse. Perhaps the person you just cut off was also in a hurry. I am so sick of petty, entitled and selfish people. 11/13/11 We purchased potstickers from the cold case (not frozen), we opened them right away and they were spoiled and smelly. I called the store so they could check or remove any other spoiled ones. They didn't even ask what the product was, just said we could have a refund with receipt. Why bother checking for spoiled food when you customers can do it! I will now be very careful checking for dates and spoilage at Market Basket. read more

They are so going down... They used to be good, have real nice brands but nowadays one day you find the brand you are looking for the next day they tell you they discontinued it. Their bakery is a total joke (especially about fresh baked french bread) you go there and all the bread baskets are empty, you asked them if they will make more they generally tell you they won't (or they just can't be bothered). If you go to the service counter to let say cash a winning scratch card they sigh and look like they can't be bothered. Honestly, MB used to have a friendly staff with a go-to attitude and great products, now it's more like cheap plastic-ee products and lazy useless staff. And the wait at the till is simply outrageous, you CANNOT get in and out with a couple of items from this store, you will have to wait at least 10 minutes, even at the under 12 items till since they can't be bothered to tell inappropriate people who line up with a cart filled up to the top to go to a normal cashier. So happy an Aldi recently opened in the area, hopefully, it will be an eye-opener for this store, and if not it will give them the hard competition they need to awake them on the fact they are doing a poor job. read more

Avoid Bakery for Cakes! needed a very large cake for first birthday party. ordered all white frosting with red and blue lettering. had my husband pick it up on way home & of course he didnt look at it.. well it had some sort of crazy red & blue swirl decoration, but what upsets me was the writing.. i could have written better with left hand eyes closed..it wasnt even cursive!!! called store manager, he said bring it back to be fixed.. it was 7pm the night before the party, no time.. he said come in sometime and see him,, for what i dont know.. he was very nice.. so beware of ugly handwritting!!!! read more

Just awful. I don't see a huge difference in prices between them and Shaw's/hannaford/Wal-Mart. I only go here for cigarette prices. Waiting in line is pathetic. No sense of urgency on cashiers part, they just continue working a snail pace. Cigarettes should be at the customer service desk, not the register. Always amazes me, they put a kid over there, who then needs to call someone to get them, as they are not 18. The "manager" guy who is always standing at the podium watching people work, gets old real fast. Only market basket I've ever been to where it's not "all hands on deck". Anytime after 8am prepare to spend the whole day there. After 8am, well you're screwed. read more

I love this store. I really had to review it after I read some of the bad reviews. I am a super picky shopper. I recently switched to trying to eat organic as much as possible and they have an ever increasing organic product selection. Their organic wine is cheaper than the liquor stores. The staff is very helpful. You never have to look for someone to help you. I find if I stand in one place too long someone will ask me if I'm finding everything I need. I went there at Christmas and every register was open and every register had two baggers on it. Other stores in dover you're lucky if they have two registers open and be prepared to bag your own. I really dont like shopping here. While there may be a few items that are priced slightly cheaper than other chains, to me, the experience is not worth it. It is always crowded, the aisles are narrow, I always find I am running into other shoppers. The produce is awful, the bakery is very limited, and the general layout of the store is unmanageable. I love this store! If you are on a budget (like the rest of us are) you can always get what you need at a great price. Market Basket does not seem to stock "premium" brands but that's ok with me because I can't afford them. By not having a lot of tempting and expensive items, this store makes it easy to hold to a price point for your weekly shopping. The bakery does a great job and is accommodating to requests. I have never had an issue or problem with their produce and most of my cart is filled with produce. The staff at all the locations I have been to have been very friendly and helpful. About once a month I visit a Trader Joes and indulge in a more expensive kind of shopping trip for snacks and freezer food. Keep up the great work Market Basket and I'll keep shopping! read more

The lines in the Somersworth NH store are getting ridiculous. The primary problem seems to be not having enough lines open. On top of that, when the lines do get very deep, the workers seem to just keep working at their normal casual place. Management needs to respect peoples time, and fix this issue. read more

Love this place. The produce is good. They have asian isle (although its limited). Recommended for the people on budget.
