We stopped by here just for the poutine, since it was the only spot in the entire market that offered it. Instead of traditional fries, they used potato wedges, which is an interesting and unique twist. The dish was served hot and satisfying, though we wished it had a bit more cheese curds. It would've been even better with the option to add smoked meat. Overall, it was pretty good but it didn't satisfy our craving for Canadian poutine. This spot is the Granville Public Market, close to one of the entrances. They have coffee products and bunch of lunch options. I ordered a Whiskey BBQ burger and a poutine and were pretty satisfied with the food. I took my tray and ate outside at a patio table facing the harbor/river (at least I think it's a river) with some live music happening. I got my Whisky BBQ with a drink. I asked the staff how big their food was and it was not bad portion wise. Looked small to me, but it was so filling. BBQ burger was nice and thick with juicy beef patty. Wedgies were freshly cooked. Food was about $20 with a drink. There was a bit of waiting to get food, it wasn't too slow. Food was pretty good. We wanted to have some poutine fries and went to Market Grill on Granville Island. We had the Euro poutine with Bavarian smokies, which was nice. Market Grill is located at the front entrance on your right side when you enter Granville Market. They sell what seemed to be delicious hamburgers. I heard several customers say they love them and they sure did smell good. I thought of ordering one but I had my heart set on the poutine. If you don't know, poutine is fries with cheese curds and gravy on top. It is a pretty popular side dish in Canada. I ordered my poutine and waited maybe 8 minutes or so for it to be prepared for me. They definitely do not do any of the preparation in advance which is fine by me. I really loved the gravy on the top of the dish. It was hearty and flavorful, not watered down. The cheese curds were sort of tasteless to me. The fries were good, but I do believe they should have been cooked more. But what I was really happy about is that the this poutine was served to me piping hot. Not only that, it stayed hot for about that 12 minutes or so it took me to eat through this delicious dish. read more

For those who want simple fare but with a variety of options. Hubby ordered the special of the day - Whiskey BBQ Burger. It comes with a salad or fries. He opted for salad. Also says crispy onion rings, smoky bacon, and cheddar. There were two nice sized rings in the burger and they were very crispy battered onion rings and yummy, bacon was good. Not sure about the cheddar because hubby opted out. Had Whiskey flavored BBQ sauce and some chipotle sauce. Hubby said it was pretty good. I regretted panicking and settling for a hot dog instead of trying one of the other exciting food booths, however I was pleasantly surprised by this dog. First it was jumbo and meaty, with nice grill marks and a little char and piping hot. The bun surprised me. Not sure, but it had the taste and texture of a brioche and was soft and delicious. You add the usual condiments AND you can add onions, sauerkraut, and a couple of others. So this was a better tasting dog than expected. This is a great stop for those who are not feeling adventurous or have kids who want regular fare. Note- rating is based on you wanting a burger if some kind or a hot dog. I always order their Black and Blue Burger the comes with generous slices of Blue Cheese. In the past, I've always ordered their Salmon Burgers which are great too but after trying the B&B burger, there was no turning back. An order comes with a side of either fries or caesar salad -- really good portions and both are great sides. Asking the counter person yielded no help "your choice" she shared. We decided on the crispy friend chicken sandwich with fries and a Caesar to share. Another 15 minutes and our lunch finally arrived. We were so excited only to find out we were mistakenly given the regular bbq chicken (not fried). It was not very tasty. This location is my favorite- it's a must visit in the Granville public market. I ordered the Chicken grill special burger and fries but the cashier said we could upgrade to poutine fries so we did! It was my first time and I was pretty excited. The burger was REALLY good. It had BBQ sauce, chicken, Swiss cheese, mushrooms, and mayo in it. The sauce was really good and the mushrooms and chicken were cooked just right to make the burgers whole texture extremely tasty. 5/5 for this for sure. The poutine though... maybe this is because it was my first experience but it was not good AT ALL. The gravy seemed kind of old and there was really no taste. The regular fries were tasty, however, so I regretted upgrading to poutine. 2/5 The food is pretty overpriced but that's because of the prime location. Def would try the burger again!! This place is just ok. I ordered a hot dog and it felt/tasted like it was made earlier in the day and then had been reheated. I've never had poutine before so I do not have anything to compare the experience too, but the gravy literally tasted like it was out of a jar. I come here for the salmon burger. The one with the honey and tartar sauce. It's a damn tasty wild salmon filet. Their kaiser bun is perfect: airy on the inside, toasted on the outside. Wrapped up halfway, old-school style. The accompanying fries are a favourite of mine: wedge-cut, unsalted. I seriously don't miss the salt at all with these fries, as crazy as that sounds. My wife goes for the Lite Delight veggie burger, which she claims is the best in town. I'll take her word for it. The best part is that it's located in the public market, one of my favourite places to visit in all of Vancouver. Yes it's touristy, but the place has a magic feeling in the air, even to a local such as myself. There are so many stalls you can visit. As others have said, it doesn't stand out in the Market food court area, tucked in the corner by the doors (across from the Pie shop, A La Mode and the soup store, The Stock Market). It's been there forever, but I hadn't been in over 20 years. However, they make tasty, high quality burgers which easily rival Popina, Vera's Burgers and the Granville Island Brewery at a much better value. Wow what a great burger. We ordered the Market Special with mushrooms. Boy, I couldn't get over how juicy and sweet the beef patty was. I wasn't particularly hungry so I told my partner to order one burger and that I would have one or two bites. After it was all said and done, I probably ate more than half. Since this is a food stand inside the public market, seating can be limited. People are generally very friendly and willing to share their table with you. We shared a table with an Emily Carr student, who said that they ate at Market Grill almost everyday. The prices are similar to other burger joints across the city, so I don't think this place cost more, especially since they make their own buns and the ingredients seem very fresh. Very pleasantly surprised considering the mixed reviews. I'll definitely be back for more. read more

It's more of a sauce, some good wet stuff and sadly, overtook the good 5 ounce patty. Only drawback was the bun, pretty plain. But I would order this again, just not right away. MMMmmmm.......... mmmm.............. mmmmmmm....... just thinking about market grill is making me drool. every time i come home, it's one of those places that i MUST go to. in my very humble opinion, one of the most over looked components in a burger is the bun. you can have excellent meat and accompaniments, but if the bun is mediocre, then the package as a whole suffers. market grill has fresh baked (artisan?) buns, perfectly crusty and soft. my favourite burger is their californian beef - rondele cream cheese, avocado, bacon, and mushrooms on a beautiful bun. all burgers come with caesar salad or wedge fries - both are equally good. there is a vegetarian option available, but that's where market grill loses the last star. the vegetarian patty is AWFUL, it's strangely peppery and dry and because of this, i can't in good conscience -even though i really wish i could- endorse the entire menu. My partner & I have eaten here a handful of times, and every single time we end up not feeling all that well after. Could possibly be because we don't often eat greasy food. I had the veggie burger which was decent, but NO PICKLE. What? That's my favorite part of the burger, honestly (and especially on a veggie burger)! My partner had the Black & Blue which had a decent amount of blue cheese, and was quite delicious, albeit quite messy. Again, NO PICKLE. We had fries with both, which are "ok", thick cut. The fries at Costco, quite frankly, are better imho. I would take a huge PASS on what they call "caesar salad" - it was gross. Lots of mayo, no garlic, and a small portion of parmesan (tasted like Kraft) sprinkled on top. Overall, we both said we really should have gone to the Happy Hour at the pub right next door as our 2 burgers & Caesar salad (no drinks) cost us $40. We won't be back unfortunately. read more
