Absolutely amazing novelty shop I've been frequenting for many years. Deep in the Catacombs of the Pike Place Market you'll find this mysterious place. Personally I came to purchase flash paper & liquid finger smoke when I was a brat teenager. Come on as an adolescent this stuff was essential for having fun. Now as an adult I still enjoy all the trinkets you can purchase. Keep a lookout for Franks favorite and that's the Fortune Teller Machine out front, I feel it gives the business a certain authenticity of a past long forgotten. Absolutely classic and unique these days. These places just dont exist! It reminds me of being 30 years younger and hitting magic stores with my dad. I remember especially the Disneyland magic shop warming my heart as a child. Now this place keeps the magic alive (pun intended). The staff here are funny older gentleman. My son went in as a zebra and bought these disguise glasses. Having this shop in the market is key for my kids, we always visit and usually buy something. There's a lot of fun things. This time my 3 kids all bought trick knives, the ones where the plastic blade goes inwards so that it really looks like you're stabbing each other. I'll never forget the image of my three kids running circles around each other "stabbing" each other in the parking lot like some dance number from West Side Story XD. This place always adds something to our visits to the market. The shop workers are funny and sometimes do magic tricks. The items aren't as cheap as online but well worth the convenience and experience of the shop, so excellent value. We went to this shop on a random Friday morning, and our kids still talk about it (and relive it). The man who worked there gave them a demonstration of a magic trick with a box with a hidden compartment and it BLEW THEIR MINDS! Best magic shop I've ever been to hands down. While I heard that there's only 12 ish in the country rn and you should be supporting them all this place pound for pound against the other two I've been to have the largest supply of books, tricks and souvenirs and just a solid love of the craft. Loved talking to the two guys there today who made us laugh and helped us a bunch with our gift collection for our families. Prices are super low averaging about 5 ish bucks max for most tricks and decks and while I didn't get a book their fortune collection is sick especially the sorting hat one which I didn't know existed. Give this place some love cause it takes you back big time if you've had a magician in the family before. read more

Kiddo used the fortune teller machine and also the souvenir penny machine, but the penny was a bit messed up (not enough muscle to move crank the machine). Popped in at Market Magic and Novelties in Pikes Market Place. This is one of the first shops I've been too since I became a magician. The store looks pretty much the same as 20 years ago. All the antique magic tricks brought back lots of memories. The store was very crowded with lots of youngsters so inquisitive. Then, I got to meet Darryl, the owner of the magic shop. We chatted about 1/2 hour and talked about people he knew way back then. It's always nice to meet the old timers, they bring back the true foundation of magic. This magic and prankster store is hilarious! What a fun, unique shop! Strolled in yesterday with my boyfriend while wandering around Pike Place Market. They have a lot of magic kits ranging from a few tricks to having hundreds of items in a box. They also sell magic items and tricks individually, magic cards, playing cards, and props. There's a whole section of gag gifts and pranks too. There are two fortune telling machines in front of the store and one inside with Elvis where you put in $0.75 in coins, the robot moves around saying random things then spits out a card with your fortune for the day. All kinds of posters everywhere from magicians with some autographed and one wall is covered in autographed pictures by magicians like Seigfried & Roy. I saw on other Yelp reviews that they do magic shows here but didn't see that or any signs about it when in there or that would have been cool. read more

I love magic. I love reading about it, watching it and learning how to perform. I don't do a lot of tricks but I do buy the occasional deck of cards, or a gimmick. I've always wanted to like this place as a magic shop but I can't quite do it. It's a great tourist stop with lots of novelties, simple tricks and posters. But that's also it's problem as a magic shop. They do have an okay selection of books, tricks and gimmicks but with all the tourists hanging around and the staff always performing a trick for said tourists, it's hard to get at what I need or get help to find what I need. I find catalogs and web sites to be a little more useful. They carry two very hard to find magic magazines and for that I'll give them points. But it'd be nice to have a more mellow place in town more suited to hobbyists and performers. read more

Down under at Pike Place Market, you'll find this magic shop. It comes complete with a fortune teller machine outside and walls plastered with old time posters. I've been to this store quite a bit over the years. I like to wander in and see what they have to offer. I am not a believer in magic. However, I have loved ones that do believe. In recent years, I've become a purchaser of products here because my little one enjoys magic. They do have cool products but they're not what I would call cheap. The last time I was here, we purchased the cup and ball trick (I'm sure that isn't the official name). It cost about $6. Now, $6 is not a lot of money to me. However, judging from the size, quality, and the ability of the average 8-year old to save that much, yeah, it kind of seems like a lot. One of the best things about this shop is the occasional magic trick. If you're too shy to ask, hang around awhile and someone will. This used to be an awesome place to come. Now anytime I come here I am let down by the fact there is not enough staff to assist. Last time I was here I knew what I wanted to buy, but realized it would take just far too long to get assistance. This time I walked right in, grabbed what I wanted, made my way to the counter, and stood there as the ONE employee working was looking something up for someone. I'm a magic fan, and amateur magician. When I travel, I always try to visit the local magic shop. I've seen all the magic shops in Paris France, New York City, Las Vegas, and many others. Although every magic shop is 'cool' Pike Place Magic is easily the coolest, and in my opinion, best magic shop in the world. It looks like what a magic shop should look like, with stuff hanging from the rafters, professional and antique stage magic up high, locked bookcases containing secret volumes of magic, and it's even down a secret corridor (not really, but it feels like it). But then, to top it off, the staff are charming, gracious, and always willing to show magic, and share the joy of the 'great deception.' There is something for everyone here. While you may think that the dudes upstairs on the top/ground level of the Pike Place Plaza tossing Salmon carcasses across at one another is amazing magic, it's really not. What is magical is the market magic and novelty shop. Though on the flip side, it's really expensive, so perhaps you should just wander about in here with out any illusion in potentially buying much. But hey, if you're here, you may as well walk through the shop and window shop. Besides, unless you're some clown or work as a party entertainment option, what's the point of knowing magic anyway? It's not like pulling a rabbit out of your hat has ever gotten anyone laid at a bar. Pulling a hundie and buying drinks for the mark, on the other hand, will magically remove them undies every time... Okay, that's an illusion as well. Back to this shop. It has a lot of old magic related items all about. It does have a few tricks that your average young child could gaze at with wonder and awe to want to purchase for some sort of cheap trick that will eventually get them beat up on the school yard. So hey, a gift for your youngster or nephew here will ensure that they turn into that creepy dude in High school who just has to try and impress their "friends" with some trick with making a dollar bill flip around or have their thumb remove. All in all, it's nice to just come in here and see what sort of crazy stuff they have around the shop. It makes for a good browsing time killer. read more

I've been coming here since I was 5 years old after seeing Doug Henning make an elephant disappear in literally one second! I was hooked! Market Magic was magical then and it still retains it's mystical atmosphere after all of these years... I guess it would be a poor excuse for a magic shop if it didn't! It's the strata of ephemera that really keeps this place authentic, you can look at the walls for an hour and still not see everything! My absolute favorite thing to do is to walk in and ask the guy behind the counter if he can show me a magic trick! It's totally free and totally fun! It also helps to be easily amused, and trust me... I am! I'm a big fan of magic cards! Go up and ask for a shaved deck and ask them to show you how it works! 12 bucks to amaze and mystify your friends to the point of insanity! Not a far journey for most people I know... but I like to take people on the tour anyway. read more

I'll start this by saying I'm neither a magician nor a performer. But, I am a parent of a young boy. We went to the shop on an afternoon when we were playing tourist, and the service and love received was phenomenal. They were so sweet to my son, they treated him with respect and gave him a fun experience! He bought a trick knife (and warned him not to have it out on the streets of Seattle since there are cops that like to shoot). He paid her $4, even though the knife was only $2 - and told her to keep the change. Well, she gave him the change back and an extra surprise, too. I was so impressed with the way they treated us that I would definitely go back and get some flash paper or something fun like that! read more

It always involved some old man telling me that there was a magic jelly bean in his pocket and that....forget it, it's too muddy of a story to share here, good news is that there is nothing like that here, it's a fun shop to check out, even if you aren't into magic like myself...except a fun card trick, I've always wanted to know a killer card trick so that I could be THAT guy at the party who does some cool trick with cards. I'm a really big fan of magic so on my trip over to the great city of Seattle I had to make a stop here for sure. Store is tucked into the Pike Place terminal market about 1 or 2 floors down from the street level. I def. have to admit that this is a magicians magician store. Has some very old antique magic props and an extensive magic book collection. Store didn't really appeal to me because it was extremely messy and not nice on the eyes. Worth the visit but to buy something of actual value might take someone some time in the shop. read more

The store is like a macabre, decadent, gorgeous dream in which you walk through a world of bygone magicians who were once household names, find yourself alive inside a garishly heart-stopping poster, books from how-to to history of and autobiographies, and of course all those suitable-for-professionals magic tricks. However, that situation will probably never happen in my lifetime and so I suppose I won't return to the Market Magic & Novelty Shop unless I wander in with someone else at some point in the future. I was greeted by a large and friendly golden retriever who was on a leash without a human on the other end. I thought that was the best part about my short lived experience in the shop. Terrible! I love magic stores and my bf and I wandered in here toward the end of the day on a weekday. They already had most of the lights off but the store was open and there were two people behind the counter. We walked in and looked around and neither person acknowledged us at all. I walked right up to the glass case, standing straight in front of one of the salespeople, he looked and me and walked away. They appeared to be closing the till for the night but most smart business owners I know wouldn't turn down a potential sale, much less be complete jerks to a patron. This is on my places to stop list every time I visit the market. It's more of a combination magic shot and novelty store, so if you have children they will defiantly find something they like here. I came here every time I am in Seattle with my best friend when we come to Bumbershoot and or other shows in the year = Twice a year. We like to come in here and look at things and jokes. He likes complicated puzzles and I am always tempted by the can of chips with the snakes that jumps out (teach him a lesson about eating my GF snacks without permission). The truth is that this shop looks cool, however, there is not much inside that would put this on the top of awesome magic shops. The customer service is really friendly and he loves magic.
