This is a very cozy restaurant with character and Midwest charm. It was busy the night we went but they have a nice area to wait and if you like checkers it won't feel long at all. The staff is very friendly and the food is fresh and well prepared. They bring you this freshly baked bread that really sets the tone for good food. This restaurant is an Arkansas institution! There are only a couple left - one here in Conway and one in Springdale, Ark. The food is fantastic - crunchy shrimp with raspberry sauce is awesome and so are the ribs! Today we had the shrimp and an Apple walnut salad with grilled chicken! The chocolate mess dessert is the very best - you will not regret! The staff were friendly and helpful and the location is clean and inviting - in fact - it is very relaxing and comfortable! Food at marketplace is always excellent! The restaurant is comfortable. Staff was friendly even though service was slow for a late afternoon meal. Recommendation: the paper kids menu we were given showed that the kids meal included a drink. We were told those menus were old and drinks were now almost $2 for a kids drink with a meal. We ate at the Marketplace Grill on a Saturday evening when overnighting in Conroy. We found the restaurant without a problem and got in and seated right away! We chose the Marketplace Grill because both my husband and I wanted a burger for dinner. The selection of burgers was good. I had a turkey burger and hubby had the American. We both had side salads at a slight up charge and we shared a side of waffle fries. Our server Katie was a pure delight! She got our orders with some minor changes exactly correct. When my husband expressed disappointment in the amount of proportioned catsup provided she quickly and cheerfully provided more. Katie remained attentive and courteous throughout our meal. The only reason we knocked off one star was that hubby's burger was overdone on the edges and the waffle fries were not hot or crisp. My wife's steak was awesome and she loved it. My Prime Rib was over cooked and dry not the medium rare I ordered. They were kind enough to take it back and give me a Nee York Strip. We went to Market Place on a Saturday night after a family function. We were a party of 10 which is pretty large and understandably we waited for about 20-30 minutes. Roughly 8 parties of 4 or fewer were sat while we waited and all of them arrived after us. But again, I wasn't bothered as it's tough to seat that many without a reservation. Well, let's begin with the good. The food was very good for the most part. They gave about 8 strips on the chicken strip dinner and the jalapeño fritters were delicious. Also, they have some of the best combo dinner options I've ever seen with all kinds of choices. Now, for the bad. After ordering, we waited at least 10 minutes for our drinks which had been ordered before the food orders went in. We then waited another 15 minutes for salads and appetizers. Most of the steaks were cooked pretty close to the requested temperature. My sister, however, ordered medium rare and got a fully well done steak which appeared to have been the end piece carved last and was shaped strangely. Since we had waited so long, she opted not to send it back but reported to the waiter that she hadn't received it the way she requested. She was still charged for it. One of the people at the table asked for no bacon on her potato and salad so almost nobody else got bacon of theirs. This was odd because one of us did receive bacon, which reminded everyone else that theirs was missing. I ordered a sweet tea which I'm pretty sure had no sugar at all and another person ordered a sweet tea that was loaded with sugar. What was especially noticeable was that because we had waited so long there was a much smaller crowd inside the restaurant than had been there when we arrived. And yet the table to our left who had ordered right after we did didn't get their food until we were done. All in all, I couldn't be unhappy about my food as it was delicious and hot, but others at the table were disappointed. Very mixed reviews among the party. But there aren't many options around town so I'm sure we'll be back at some point. read more

We ordered a chicken Berry salad that had few ounces of chicken and barley filled half the bow for $13. I have attached a picture. We also ordered two pastas the jambalaya with shrimp and shrimp Florentine. By substituting shrimp the prices were over $20. However, the amount of shrimp was maybe about 4 oz cooked. So, may of be 6 ounces raw. Which is not horribly over priced but definitely not good. We may give them another try and just lay the blame on inflation and high food prices this time. Stopped in while traveling and found an honest steak and a nice wait person, Ainsley. Had a Cajan ribeye which was picture perfect. Ordered it rare and came as ordered. The most tender piece of beef I have had in a long time. Enjoyed it along with a great baked potato and as an appetizer the flaming queso. It had a touch of cinnamon sprinkled on top just to provide a different taste. The salad did come a bit quick but the steak and my wife's small walnut chicken salad came just right. My wife enjoyed her salad and the lunch size was just right. Ainsley had a great sense of humor and took care of use well, knew when to be there and when to let us enjoy dinner. There was a wait but board games provided a good distraction to the wait. When leaving I noticed others plates and they all looked good. Great staff, everyone was very nice and courteous. Unfortunately, the food was not good. Appetizer bread was just a subway-esque sandwich roll covered in "butter" that did not taste like butter. My salad was just the bad cuts of watery lettuce, though it was fresh, with typical Tyson chicken strips cut up. Heard great things about here but was not impressed at all. I ordered chicken fried steak, with Parmesan spinach, and garlic mashed potatoes. Flavor was pretty darn good but temp of food was disappointing. Plate was cold and food only warm. Mom had French dip which she said tasted awesome but found hairs on the bun of the second half. She isn't too picky so she just set the bun aside but yuck. Service was nonexistent. Initial server was nice and very warm greeting but that was pretty much the last we saw her. My mom took my glass to go get more tea because we had no sever. It wasn't even the servers fault, the management is at fault for seating her with 4 tables at once, two of which had 8 or more, and those were just the parties we could see. She asked about the food and we were honest and she asked how she could help make it right but you could see her holding back tears. Probably due to her being overwhelmed by the management seating too many people for their staff. Hopefully it was just an off day, but don't think I would try again. There was a time when MarketPlace was one of the best restaurants in town. Then Conway got other restaurants. In the years since (aka over the past 10-15 years), the food and service have just fallen off a cliff. I went for a recent anniversary dinner and actually stopped at McDonald's next door right afterward. It was that disappointing. The prices have always been in the moderate range, and there's nothing inherently wrong with that. The problem arises when the quality no longer matches the price. Where to begin - not a good start, right? First, on a Friday evening there wasn't enough wait staff so we had to wait 20 minutes for a table. Next, while waiting, the vestibule is disgustingly dirty and there's mold blowing out of the AC vents. Finally, don't advertise that you have a large selection of vegetarian options on the menu. There are TWO - wither veggie tacos or Margherita pizza. I'm sure if we'd ordered from the menu we would have paid full price without the meat added. That's just crappy - and if you can make all of those menu items vegetarian, then why aren't they listed? Don't waist your money and don't go to this restaurant, especially if you're a veg head. We ordered a tea and water, pondered the menu and what we could eat, decided to leave and they didn't comp the tea. I probably wouldn't have written this review if they had at least comped the tea. I've always had a pleasant experience here and the food and service have always been spot on and consistent. This place is a perfect example of capitalization of dining space. I see so many great restaurants with minuscule dining areas that create long waits and lost customers(revenue). It's then no surprise to see these restaurants close down. Marketplace has a massive dining area and the staff to cover. The menu has great variety and you can tell this place is selective in their hiring process. These are the things that breed quality and success and Marketplace is doing them well. Looking forward to my next visit. read more
