The manager, Rob, was completely unprofessional. He told our friend he would "f*cking kill us" after he used a vape just 3 minutes after entering the bar. It was our first time and we were all unfamiliar with the rules. We told him we would like to be respected and at least receive a warning rather than being aggressively sworn at. He immediately followed with "I'm calling the cops on you" and proceeded to do so. As a side note, we also observed the bartender taking multiple shots behind the bar throughout the short time we were there. When we mentioned that to the manager he stated, "I care more about him then I do about you guys so I don't give a f*ck what you have to say". Horrible customer service, we will not be back and hope no one ever runs into the experience we had. read more

If I lived in Chicago, I'd probably be a regular here. I was in town with a bunch of friends for a conference, and we randomly walked into Marquee Lounge after having dinner down the street. We wanted something fun and inexpensive, and we found it! We ordered a round of beers - PBR 16 ouncers for only $3! In the back of the bar is a pool table and a bunch of booths. I really love the decor back there, with a theater theme, and all walls painted with murals. There are giant windows which kept a nice breeze filtering through the room. There's a jukebox with a great variety of songs, and great sound throughout the entire building. The bathrooms were also super clean. We hung out there for a few hours, first on our own, then people started trickling in and we ended up playing pool with some locals, ordering more rounds of beers and tiny shots of tequila! The bartender was super nice, and all of the locals were very friendly. We had tons of fun! I would go back next time I'm in Chicago (there is an excellent tapas restaurant less than a block away, so it could happen!), and I would recommend it! read more

I went to the Marquee Lounge after my preschool staff holiday party, like we do every year. At one point I ordered a PBR and waters for the group for most of the night because a lot of the group was getting overserved. I tipped $4 for my $4 beer because I figured they were working on getting the water but not getting anything for it, so I thought that was the right thing to do. Later in the night, I was gifted a bottle of nice champagne. I went to the bar to ask for some glasses, and she said it was an $80 corkage fee, which seemed ridiculous, so I said no. Someone at the table had opened the bottle while I was asking about getting glassware. Which probably wouldn't have happened if that person hadn't been over-served. The staff member came to the table, grabbed the bottle, and walked away. We were not asked to please leave with it or put it away. They just grabbed my Christmas gift and walked away. It was very mean and unnecessary, but considering the (insane) corkage rules, I could let it go with a negative review for unfriendly service. But then, this morning, there was a charge on my card for $80 - which I didn't sign. I would have remembered signing a bill for $80, considering I was ordering $4 beers and water. So they charged me the fee and stole the bottle anyway! Which is stealing. So now I have to contest the charge, because as a preschool teacher I certainly cannot afford to just let $80 go, and I'm not happy about it. If the charge disappears from my account without me having to call, I will happily edit this review to reflect that. read more

I LOVE Kristen R.'s review! Read my mind about the cute boys. Ok, I will make a true confession about this bar. I showed up here, drunk, at midnight, when I had a 6 AM flight out of town the next day. I was all by myself, my friends having dropped me off minutes before, safe in the knowledge that I was going straight up to my bed. Except I wasn't. I was stumbling down the block to Marquee. I sat at the bar, managed to order a beer, and no sooner did I turn my head than I saw two really cute guys looking right at me. Of course, we talked, one Irish police officer strunk my fancy, and several hours later, I realized I had no problem staying up straight through the night and needed to get to O'Hare - pronto! What I'm saying with this slightly embarrassing tale is, this place is great and is a good place to meet people without being the trashy meat market that Beaumont down the street is. read more

This bar seems like it's right down my alley. I've been here twice and, because I'm still new to Chicago, am always looking to scope out new local hot spots. Yes, it's in Lincoln Park but I like Lincoln Park. It reminds me of the Marina in SF...yes I know, I know. You're rolling your eyes as you read this (Lisa W.) but I love it. There were a lot of really cute boys both times I was there. But it wasn't a huge dude fest either. It's always nice to have a little variety. There's a pool table in the back which I know Ali G. and I will LOVE to hang out when she comes to visit in March (yay!). The drinks were good and strong. I ordered some vodka sodas; I didn't think they were as strong as they were but they did the trick. Definitely. The music was good too. They played a lot of the top 40 but hey that's what I like. Marquee is pretty much perfect. All I want in a bar is cool people and a good selection of drinks. Marquee has both. Even though it's in the middle of Lincoln Park, you wouldn't know it-- you'll never hear the Pussycat Dolls on the jukebox nor see girls dressed like them sidling up to the bar. And amongst their wide selection of booze, they have Original Sin cider! Hooray! I wish they had food, but they let you bring it in from other restaurants, or just order it to the bar. Also, they have a pool table and a great back room for parties. So, yeah, pretty much perfect. read more

What do you get when you combine a cute little bar, a great pour of Guinness and a fabulous staff? You get the Marquee lounge. The first thing I noticed about this bar was the old fixtures. The Marquee has a wonderful, retro look that I really enjoyed. From the old beer signs to the hardwood bar, a trip to this place is like walking back in time. The bar has a mellow, fun vibe that I really enjoyed. The Marquee had a nice mix of people hanging out at the bar the night I stopped in. You had the hot, Lincoln Park Trixie's, the locals and even a few old farts like me enjoying their favorite spirit. Regardless of their age and background, everybody seemed to be having a good time. Here's the bottom line: If you're looking to enjoy a top notch drinking establishment with a retro feel, head on down to the Marquee lounge. The first pint's on me. read more

Great neighborhood bar in Lincoln Park. I actually live in Boston, but grew-up in Chicago, so when ever I head back into town, I usually find myself at the Marquee at least one night during my stay in town. Bar has a really mellow relaxed vibe and while it can get crowded, the people are generally pretty cool. Does not come across as the hippest, trendiest place, which is fine with me. Rather its the kind of place where people go to hang out, have a few drinks (and shots) and enjoy some good conversation. I have to say, one thing that is really deceiving about The Marquee is its size. There actually three big rooms and the third room in the back has a full bar, so if you find the front too crowded just work your way back and you'll be pleasantly surprised by what you find. read more

I used to live down the street and this was my favorite bar. Moved to evanston and I still make a pit stop whenever I'm in the area. Overall it is a simple bar set up and I love the low key vibe. The bartenders are always very friendly and welcoming. I nicknamed one of the bartenders silver fox. If you go here often enough you'll know who I'm talking about! :) In the summer they'll have the front windows open, nice to sit there and relax, great view of the busy halsted & armitage intersection. I also like the fact that they only have drinks no food. Perfect for happy hour... again great atmosphere. They have a great beer selection from domestic beer to craft beers. I don't know what it's like on weekends, but the Marquee Lounge is an easy place to be on a weeknight for an after dinner drink and a game of pool. It's not super-crowded (again, on weeknights) and not too noisy so you can actually have a conversation. It's in Lincoln Park, so yes you'll pay $5.50 for a beer, but on Thursdays (at least last night), pool is free. You may want to call ahead and confirm that. I put 4 quarters into the slot, did the push thingy on the pool table and nothing happened. "FUCK!" out of my mouth. Instead of going to the bartender to complain, I looked and all the balls were already dislodged. Ok. So I play a game and look and there they were again. So I played pool for a couple of hours and enjoyed my Sierra Nevada. Score! Touchdown! read more

I have walked by this bar countless times on my way from the Armitage "L" stop, but last weekend was my first time to stop in. It was perfect. Nice beer selection, great atmosphere - open windows in the front, lots of wood, very cool old bar - and very nice folks. There was a nice mixture of people - 20 somethings, 30 somethings, and even a few 50 somethings. Everyone was friendly, and there was a minimum of attitude. A great neighborhood bar. read more

What's not to like about Schlitz Bar, I mean Marquee Lounge, except maybe one thing? To wit: + Great location right on the corner, with plenty of windows for people watching and a nice ledge on which to lean, cowboy. + Air conditioning. Yes, they have it now. I'm not so sure they did when I first patronized the place on a stiflingly hot evening. + Sport on the tele. + A quality pint O'Guinness. + Invariably, a track from the Stone Roses' first album on the jukebox, and I've never even dropped a quarter into the machine. + Great place to pre-game in the early evening when it's quiet. Now, about that one thing. It's the bathroom. To the left, you have the area for serious business and/or throwing up. And it's military style, meaning no door and no privacy, Private Pyle. Pun intended. To the right, you have the area for whizzing. But the setup for the whizzing is even more remarkable than the area for serious business and/or throwing up. The urinal is situated such that if someone is using it when you walk in, their little guy is going to be perpendicular to you and just about in your face. Did the guys from the Manhandler across the street design this bathroom? WTF? Oh, and no mirror. You can only assume your hair is still perfect, player. Other than the shortcomings of the bathroom and the fact that Marquee isn't ever going to be a marquee watering hole as far as the glitterati is concerned, Marquee does quite well what it's supposed to do. This bar during is absolutely perfect as it's never completely empty but always has a nice crowd. They get busy on nice days because they will open the windows and on the weekend happy hours / evenings but it's never insanely packed. The low key atmosphere is always refreshing and they usually have good tunes. For the most part, the bartenders great and always talkative as many have been there for 10+ years. The beer selection of beer is fantastic and the beers are always served in the proper glass which is nice touch as well. This place is a little pricey but you're paying to weed out the younger crowd so I'm okay with paying the premium. They also have a backroom for parties which I've personally used and it was great! This is the prefect spot for a quick drink or two on a nice spring or summer day. Doesn't get much better! Keep up the great work Marquee and I'll see you soon! read more

Now that I am an ex-Chicagoan I find myself missing this bar. On a recent trip back to the city I found my way back to this familiar and comforting place. Basically its a great place to drink beer. Its got a very friendly vibe, a great jukebox, good prices and a great location. Theres also a nice pool table in the back plus a back bar for nights when it gets crowded (weekends). I've been here on just about every night of the week and enjoyed myself each time regardless of situation. This bar represents everything great about the Chicago nightlife scene. Tip of the day: Next time you are there and its getting around midnight and youve got the drunk munchies, hop next door to Minnie's and order some mini-burgers, sandwhiches, etc...they will deliver them to you at the bar. You'll also make some new friends when other jealous drunks see you and your friends scarfing down some delicious mini-burgers. read more

Horrible experience in an otherwise cool bar. I've been here a few times as I live in the neighborhood and tonight I took a couple friends who just moved here. We walked to the bar in the back room (all a part of the same bar) and sat down. Our friend walked to get drinks in the other room because the employee at the bar we were at wasn't paying attention to us and we thought it was all the same anyway. The second our friend left the bartender shouted at us to leave and sit at a table stating 'the bar is the only way she makes money'. We truly didn't understand at that point what she was talking about. I caught her attention and tried to say we didn't know it was different tabs, and offered to get another round from her while sitting at the bar. She was extremely rude and simply stated that we could go sit at the table two feet away. And then she actually called security to monitor our moving to the other table when we actually hadn't even really exchanged any words because she walked away before we could ask for clarification. We were very confused, hurt, and honestly really put off by this situation. Marquee Lounge - are you giving your employees a reason to be so nasty or was this woman just mean? read more

Stopped in for a drink with my girlfriend and at first seemed like a nice place. Turned for the worse when I went to the bathroom and the blonde bartender turned on my girlfriend for no reason. Seems she doesn't like competition for her stalking middle age males in Lincoln Park, sugar daddy's beware cause she is on the hunt! Totally rude and was talking trash about my girlfriend with some regulars. Literally just stopped in, ordered a drink and was nothing but polite to her. But she took it to another level of being a bitch! Go if your single and want good beer on tap but avoid if you are with a girl cause she will treat her like shit. I've gone to this bar on and off for the past 6 years, and I want to like it...but still meh. We were over at babareeba on a Saturday night for dinner, so we decided to stop by for couple more drinks. It was pretty crowded around 10:30 when we arrived. Not a big deal, except it was like 150 degrees in there. Ordered a few beers...and the Stella had a distinctive taste of ass. Not sure what was up with that, but it not normal. I was a little surprised by the wide age range here (used to be all early 20s from what I remember). I would probably dig that if I was on the prowl. There's not much special or exciting about this bar. It could probably be fun once in a while...if you met some non-creepy dudes who like to buy drinks...or something. read more

Most fun beer name to say in the whole world? Hoegaarden. By a LANDSLIDE. It's a little neighborhood-y kind of place. You drink your beer, you make some mildly witty commentary about the art on the tabletops (ours was "American Gothic") and you drink some more beer. Pretty out of the ordinary for a Lincoln Park bar. AND. They serve Hoegaarden. And SAYING Hoegaarden will PROBABLY get you kicked out of church. ...Just throwing that out there. And if anyone tries it? And gets the boot from Jebus? I'd call this a great "alternate" bar. This is the place you'd go if you don't really want to go somewhere packed, just want a beer and conversation. There is only 1 TV in the front bar, so you'd better be ready to converse. Their beer menu is solid and have a lot of stuff you won't find at typical Lincoln Park bars. Yes, they have sierra nevada and delirium tremens... but try something different dammit! Pool table in the back, but the seats around it are pretty small. You're going to get to know your neighbor pretty well if you try and fit 4 in a booth. Overall... solid little bar with good beers. No food. read more

My friends and I were very disappointed with our visit... the bouncer at the door was very suspicious of us for no reason. We were not trying to cause trouble. We went up to the bar and he followed us to bar and whispered something to the bartender. What the hell is this place? As a place caddy-corner from The Store, Beaumonts and down the street from Kincaids, it feels very much out of place. On the night we went (Thursday, around 10pm), there was nobody under 35 in the place, and there was only one tiny tv. I feel as if it had said "what's this neighborhood have too much of-- (answer: college kids and post college kids)?-- let's do exactly the opposite! This place caught my eye while walking to Cafe Babareeba. Didn't seem like a typical LP bar. After tapas, I dragged the bday girl over for a round. It was nice inside. Nice pub style I'd say. Big steigl's on tap, so I couldn't complain. I wasn't there too long, but on a weeknight, not a bad place to have a chill quiet night w/ a few friends. Glad to see that Marquee got good reviews. Okay, it's yet another Lincoln Park bar. They don't have food. It's not huge. They don't have live music. Not really a big deal. However, have you ever just went into a place that's not that special but still felt the need to say "I like this little place!"? That's Marquee lounge. I love open air bars on beautiful nights. The bartenders are always nice and the crowd is never pretentious. The first time I came in here I brought my Mom and we preceded to get hammed on Belgian beers. This past week we stopped in after dinner at Tilli's to watch the Sox game (on all screens mind you - the Cubs didn't play 'til later) -- Huge plus in my book. The small crowd was mixed but friendly. Once again we enjoyed a couple different types of Belgian's. The bartender gladly let us try a sample before we ordered one. It was a week night so after a few strong Belgians we left. Marquee Lounge is the kind of place I could walk into and have a beer by myself if I so inclined. It's a cute comfortable place in a nice area and awesome on a summer night. read more

I'm really a fan of this place - a lot of the bars I go to feel a bit college-y being in the DePaul area, and the Marquee Lounge provides a nice change of pace with a little bit older of a crowd (meaning out of college). They have one of my favorite beers, Delirium Tremens, on tap which is awesome. It can get pretty crowded, but definitely one of my favorite Lincoln Park bars when I'm looking to avoid the college scene. read more

To ensure 6 feet distance had to wait 15 mins for bathroom line. Walked out to the owner calling us pussy's and f***ers. It certainly, I believe, reflects the neighborhood: same color, same age. Educated, yuppies looking to get weird. But if that is what it is, then it did a great job! It's not usually what I am looking for in a 'going out' situation, but I did go and had a good time for a friends' birthday party. Pool table, mini bar in back, large beer menu (which is lost on me). Yelp describes it as a "Lounge, Dance Club" and I understand the Lounge part, sorta, (my wife and I chilled near the ATM on a long couch and made observations peppered with criticisms), but I did not at all get a 'Dance Club' vibe. read more
