Update! Ed F. has informed me there is a side entrance. HALLELUJAH! ------------------------------------------------------------ AMAZING pizza! I'm one of the few people in the history of time that doesn't always think pizza is a good idea. Where is it from (certain places just don't make the cut no matter how awesome of a special they are running!)? What toppings do they offer? Do they use fresh mushrooms or canned? Is the sauce sweet or savory? ...you get the idea. Of all the things in the world to be a hardass about, I pick pizza. Jeesh. Anyways, so after seeing all the rave reviews for Sam's, and it's only a few blocks from my humble abode, I decided to give it a try. I just went with my childhood fave: classic pepperoni. I took note that the guy on the phone was very nice. I get so irritated when the person taking the order makes you feel like you're somehow inconveniencing them (ironically by giving them your business!). Not the case here, thankfully. Great service via phone. Loved, loved, loved the pizza. HOWEVER... 15 minutes after placing my order, off I was to 824 6th St SW, the address shown on the yelp business profile for Sam's Pizza. WRONG! Sam's Pizza is now in Mr. B's bar - allllll the way in the back. The location is the only reason it doesn't get 5 stars and quite frankly probably deserves even fewer based on this alone. Picking this pizza up was borderline sexual harassment. I had to weave through the very crowded bar with bros and dudes giving me the stare down. "Wait, this chick came to the bar ALONE?! I'm all over that shizz." UGH. I couldn't get out of the place fast enough. And even when I did weave back through, I still got comments from a band of smokers asking "where's our pizza?" and that "I'd definitely share with you so why don't you come back and chill with us". UH, no thank you please. So between that and fending off drunk line-cutters, actually retrieving said amazing pizza was less than pleasant. Would I order from Sam's again? OH YES. Absolutely... Unfortunately there are conditionals: it would have to be before nightfall :-/

Now at 2nd Ave, I will be the first to say, we quit ordering pizza from them for about 2 years as it went down hill in quality and consistency.

Service was great and the waiter was pretty good at making the rounds, making sure I was attended to. I was going to order the large but he insisted to get the medium knowing the pie was going to be too big. (I should have ordered the large! ). When the pie came out, everything about this pizza was a step above any slice I've ever had. I'm a uge fan , that's right "UGE" fan of Dave Portnoy 1 slice pizza review and have been dying to try the NH style type of pizza. I ordered a medium (which was uge btw) pep pizza and it came out within 10 mins. Each slice had zero flop and a beautiful undercarriage! The dough had that true charcoal oven fired tasted and the pepperoni cups were crisp and spicy! The thing that really elevated this pizza for me was that after taken it back to the hotel and microwaving it, (it lost some of it structure) but the crust was still pretty crispy! How am I'm suppose to go back to Texas now knowing this kind of slice exists!?! The place also has some pretty cool shirts which are kind of pricey but tbh will always remind me of that one time I'd almost cried eating pizza.

The crust is amazing with a hint of sweetness, and the white sauce was very tasty. It accompanied the mushrooms and sausage perfectly. The pie was 20 bucks with the toppings on a large and beers are 5 to 8 dollars.

The Only restaurant in town to play music that doesn't hurt my ears. I order Chicago style because it's the best in town. They have been open the longest out of all the Pizzerias in Marion and Cedar Rapids, they know what they're doing. My wife loves the New York and occasionally she'll get a massive calzone, The grandkids of course love the Zookie. Wonderful Spot, Wonderful People.

There's no comparison except maybe Zachary's which is a Chicago-style pizza as well. I normally come in off hours as the restaurant can be loud. I sat with my AirPods on for most of my meal to help drown out the noise. I love the ceiling decor but I don't think it's noise-reducing. There's enough seating for about 30 people. The people I shared a seat back with must've been involved in a royal rumble as about every 2-3 minutes I'd get a huge bump in my back from the people on the other side. When I put my hand down to slide into the booth, it was covered in crumbs. I put my hand on the table top and it had crumbs as well. I ended up asking my waiter to grab a washcloth to wipe my table as there was some food stains on it too. Someone must've cleared the table without wiping the table or seats down. My waiter was on top of things and was friendly. The pizza however, was on point as it always is. The crust was thick, buttery crunch on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. The sauce was fresh/good. The mozzarella was oozing out the sides of my slice. It was hot but not unbearably so. I love Zoey's pizza. It's on my shortlist of places I always go to when I'm in town. As long as they're in business, I will be a patron.
