From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by friendly, knowledgeable service, upbeat French music, and the warm glow of Moroccan lanterns that made the restaurant feel cozy and inviting. We all started with drinks, and my Marrakesh Old Fashioned was delightful with just the right hint of warm spice. One person at our table ordered the Moroccan coffee, and the presentation was next level. It arrived in a beautiful silver pot with elegant ceramic cups and a charming covered sugar dish. It was as much an experience as it was a cup of coffee. The star of the evening was the Agneaux à la Ferme. The lamb shank was unbelievably tender, literally falling off the bone, and the sauce with apricots and almonds was absolutely exquisite. Rich, savory, with just a touch of sweetness, it was one of those dishes you keep thinking about long after the meal is over. Our waiter even surprised us with a complimentary taste of the week's avocado and grapefruit ice cream, a thoughtful touch that perfectly capped off the evening. What a fantastic experience! My realtor recommended Marrakesh Moroccan Cuisine if I had not tried it yet. I don't think I have ever had Moroccan food before, but everything was so good, I can't wait to come back! I ordered a small Moroccan Mint tea. I love mint tea, but this Moroccan Mint tea was exceptionally fantastic. I ordered the paella which was so flavorful and rich. I loved the mix of proteins and the use of peas in the paella. I also ordered the Spicefire drink with Mezcal which paired so well with the paella. I love grabbing dinner by myself and expected to be seated at the bar, as that is typically the standard of restaurants in Indy, but I was given the option of getting to sit at a table or a high top if I would prefer. I really appreciated being given this option and I chose a high top table. I also was grateful that the restaurant did a great job of marking which dishes are gluten free on their menu. My waitress was incredible and attentive even as the restaurant became packed and busy on a Friday night. I appreciated that she was able to give me recommendations for what I would enjoy and answered any questions I had. Checked out this newish place last night! We started with the Moroccan glazed carrots-could have eaten all of them- and the betterave seule which was beets, apples, and oranges in a champagne vinaigrette on some light greens. These two dishes alone made the trip worth it! I chose the chicken dejaj and demolished it -hard to go wrong with chicken, potatoes, carrots, and onions. Comforting and aromatic! K ordered the mussels and I did try one. Who knew mussels in a harissa cream sauce would be so amazing! Use that table bread to soak up that sauce! Their cocktail menu was so intriguing and I decided to try the sparkling red city. Saffron tincture, strawberry liqueur, lemon and some noir brut made this a delightful pairing with my food. Amazing! One of our favorite family dinners in quite some time. Our Thursday night dinner plans fell through last minute so we opted to check out this spot that had been in our hit list for quite some time. I've been lucky enough to visit Morocco on two occasions so I went in hoping this would transport me back to some of those memories. Great news- it's the real deal For starters, I loved how many veggie forward options were on the menu. We opted for the Moroccan spice carrots, Chicken tajine filled with potatoes, olives, tomatoes and onions (flavor party!), saffron rice and the beet, apple, citrus salad. We were having too much fun to please so we stick around for baklava dessert. All of the food was flavorful and fresh. I also ordered a pot of Moroccan mint tea. The restaurant is on the nicer side so I wouldn't call it a typical "kid friendly" spot, but they were actually accommodating, had high chairs and it worked out though for our little crew. The atmosphere is moody with darker lighting, and Moroccan decor. The staff were all super friendly and seemed to be delighted to see some kids in the restaurant. What A GREAT addition to the neighborhood. The owner was so sweet and so appreciative of us being there. The drinks were yummy and the food was DELICIOUS! The only place to have Moroccan wine, Lamb is flown in from New Zealand. Everything is cooked in house. The meal I got takes 5 hours to prepare. There is plenty of seating with some couch tables, a few high top seating, and some seats at the bar. Five this local restaurant some love. First time here. The service was friendly and ambiance is nice and we were sat quickly. We had looked at the menu prior and the server had mentioned some of the items we wanted were unavailable. We decided to order the elmagdor, glazed carrots, zaalouk, and the pasta to share. The beef in the Elmagdor was decently tender. Probably about 6 Oz or so two of us had about 3 cubes of meat. It was $26 and no other sides came with it. The zaalouk was savory with a little spice. The carrots sweet and garlilky. They did bring out some bread that was soft and good to eat the zaalouk with. The pasta had a weird flavor with it almost tasting like rubber as if they had a mistake in the kitchen. We told the server that we werent sure what it should taste like but it didnt taste edible. The owner (I think) came over and mentioned it was all made with saffron. While he may justify the taste normally I still think this is not how it was intended to taste. They did take it off our bill and offered us something instead but we declined. While I understand prices are going up, the food seemed over priced for the portions and underwhelming. When my family comes into town for Christmas we love to try a new type of food. Lucky for us that Marrakesh opened in the neighborhood. The service was friendly and very excited to go over the menu with us and guided us to a fantastic meal! We started with the tajine mussels with a lovely harissa cream sauce. They brought out more bread many times for us to soak up the delicious sauce. We decided to share the atlas tajine in lamb with the saffron rice and zaalouk for sides. The lamb was melt in your mouth and the zaalouk (eggplant) was a surprise favorite for the table. Again, the recommendations were great and we'll have to come back to try some other things I had my eye on. The owner was very sweet and came by several times to express gratitude for coming in. They transformed what used to be a dark metal bar into a lovely inviting space. Happy to have them so close! read more

The owners are both from Casablanca and you can genuinely taste the heritage and family tradition in every dish. This isn't just dinner. Our group was here for 4 hours (because we didn't want to leave!) and every single plate was incredible -- not one complaint from anyone at the table. A trip to Casablanca via Indianapolis On a recent double date, we found ourselves on College Avenue and the Marrakesh Moroccan Cuisine and Bar on a Saturday night. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the owner, who exuded enthusiasm. It is refreshing to visit a restaurant where you instantly know that the owner loves what he's doing. It made us feel like we were visiting his home. Our server was there right away and answered our questions about the menu and promoted the wine list, which included some incredible Moroccan wine options. We shared a bottle of one of the reds, and were thankful for the experience. As for our meals, I opted for the Merguez, which is described as a " savory sausage made with beef and lamb, served with Moroccan saffron rice." This was a special treat and provided some new spices to experience. My wife opted for one of their tajines, the Chicken Dejaj, which included chicken, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and olives, and was served up in the traditional tajine pot. After the meal, we each had some of their signature Moroccan mint tea, served by the owner. He showed a "test glass" to indicate the tea wasn't quite ready yet, and came back several minutes later to serve a bright and delicious beverage with the traditional pour. All told, this is a wonderful addition to the city of Indianapolis, and I would love to add it to our rotation. read more

Oversold, underdelivered. Beautiful aesthetic and ambiance. Greeted nicely by one of the chefs. Went here because they had good reviews and vegan options. I went with a friend that is not vegan. My friend and I asked some questions since it was our first time and things were well explained and spoken about in a way that got us excited. The lamb is cooked for 36 hours (I believe) and they raved about tenderness and flavor and while my friend said it was very tender, the flavor was lacking. I got the zaalok and asalad and a drink with coconut cream and pineapple. I can't recall the names of the dishes at the moment. I was underwhelmed with everything. The flavors were inconsistent. The zaalok started strong in the first bite but wasn't delicious throughout. I like that they don't use salt and use olive instead because I really love olives, but they had a really strong taste. The bread did help. The charred zucchini and tomatoes in my salad were really good but there was an abundance of red and yellow pepper and an odd squishy piece of eggplant in the middle that threw off the flavor and consistency of the dish. The mocktail was the thing I enjoyed. We waited a very long time in between interactions and check ins from wait staff. There were 3 on and they were everywhere but seemed to be checking consistently on their larger groups but neglecting the smaller tables. We waited so long staff was leaving before we even got our check. Needless to say we tried, but there weren't enough redeeming qualities for either of us to return. read more

Located in the formerly Sinking Ship location, don't let the outside fool you. The interior has been beautifully redone and tries to give you that Moroccan feeling. It is beautiful That being said, we were a bit disappointed that only a very limited variety of dishes were available. I would say maybe a fourth to a third of the dishes of the on line menu were actually on the restaurant menu. We were told that they will serve more and more of the dishes listed on line as the cooks become more familiar with the cuisine and that they are training on cook at a time, so they can fully grasp the concept. So we had to reconfigure and order other items than planned. To start with I had the lentil soup which was very nice and served in a terrine with a lid. For my main, I had the chicken skewers with rice. Delicious, both the rice as well as the chicken. The filet was deemed very good, however, it consists of a few small chunks of meat and is served with a bit of bread on the side. It will not fill you up under any circumstances. The paella was praised as being very good and there seemed to be plenty of it. It does come with a price tag though. I do highly recommend the mint tea, which is served hot of course and comes in a beautiful kettle and glasses. To sum it up. The food is delicious albeit a bit bland and pricey for the small portions served. read more

The food is so different from what we typically experience in Indy. As many have noted, the mussels are super flavorful, as is the merguez sausage and saffron rice. Our server Zach was extremely knowledgeable and gave enthusiastic recommendations for beverages and food. For dinner we had the Chicken Bastilla, a phyllo wrapped dish with chicken, honey, almonds, onion jam & dried fruit, giving the perfect savory sweet balance. I highly recommend this dish. My friend had the Elmahgdor - filet cubes marinated for 24 hours in spices. She said it was tender and delicious. Others in our party ordered the Chicken Dejaj which had potatoes, onions, tomatoes and olives. The flavors were amazing. We finished with the Saffron Chocolate Mousse, which should not be missed. From the moment I walked it until the time I left the experience was no less than impressive. I had the mussels and glazed carrots. Take my word, DO THE MUSSELS and dip the bread in the sauce. Thank me later. Also, don't leave without trying to chocolate mousse (paired w the cote de rhone). The staff were phenomenal as well. If I could give half stars I would have given it a 3.5, but I want to give it a chance, so I gave it 4 stars. I was so thrilled to learn about this spot. I usually give a new place time to accumulate more reviews before trying it out, but I was so intrigued I couldn't wait. The ambiance was incredible, especially when thinking about the previous interior when it was The Sinking Ship. The staff were incredibly warm, welcoming, friendly, and attentive. Overall it definitely has a friendly neighborhood vibe. They do have a fun cocktail list for an ethnic food restaurant. I tried the Moroccan Old Fashioned and it was pretty good. We started with the Tajine Mussels. The sauce was good, but quite a few of the mussels were very fishy and had an off texture. We shared the Moroccan glazed carrots, the Zaalouk, and the Merguez. Overall things were heavily oiled and a little too salty. The carrots were not great. The Zaalouk was the one thing we really liked and the bread was delicious. The Merguez was more greasy and fatty than I expected. It definitely had a strong lamb flavor. I think we will give in another try in the future. read more

Our foodie group came to Marrakesh Moroccan cuisine for dinner last night, and it was quite the experience. As soon as I walked in and sat down, I was blown away by the beautiful ambiance. This definitely has a nice Moroccan theme decor and is absolutely gorgeous and stunning. It is like being in a palace with royalty. That is how gorgeous the ambiance is at Marrakesh. The food is just as incredible here at Marrakesh. I ordered the paella for dinner, and it was the best paella I have had in quite a while. It had the right amount of spices and heat to it, and the flavors blended together like pure heaven. It tasted amazing and I enjoyed every minute of it. Everyone else loved their dishes as well. The cocktails are good as well from what I have heard from our group. They have a happy hour until 7 pm where you can get $2 off a cocktail. Our server was wonderful and took very good care of us. She was on top of everything. The owner came by our table and checked on us throughout the evening, which really made me feel good. He was very nice and treated us like royalty. Another special feature is if you pay with cash, you get $2 off of your check. It is a good incentive to pay cash for your meal. Adding to the others that have visited Marrakesh in SoBro. We visited Morocco last year, and my family loved the food and mint tea. When I saw the posts for them, I wanted to give it a shot. First, the service and hospitality were great. The owner himself served our tea and talked to us about coming to the US from Morocco. My daughter, wife and I split a bunch of things across the menu. The one dish my wife was most excited about, the saffron pasta, they were actually out of. We tried the Shrimp Pil Pil, Moroccan Soul soup, merguez, chicken mechwi, glazed carrots, and savoy cabbage. The soup was exactly like what we'd had in Morocco and I could have eaten like 10 orders of the shrimp. The chermoula and tomatoes on their own are absurdly good. The merguez is a custom recipe from the chef that a meatpacker makes to spec. It's the only thing I didn't love. I also don't really care for lamb, so not really the sausage's fault. The chicken mechwi was good, but my favorites were the carrots and cabbage. As far as drinks, my wife had The Sparkling Red City and the Pomegranate Ginger Smash, and we split an espressotini. Didn't love the first, but the second and third drinks were dangerously good. Definitely wanting to go back and try more of the options! read more

The service was also great our sever Zack helped us with the menu, being that it was our first time there, we both shared an entree , with a side and then a dessert. And we were both lightly filled. We will not return and I can see what others have said, a joint like this would not last a year in a more culturally-aware town. No sign of almond or dried fruit. Also got the elmahgdor, which was not an entree. It was about 8 small cubes of beef in a standard beef gravy. Couldn't detect any interesting spices or flavoring. It's served with low-quality Sysco food service "baguette" slices that are just straight out of the bag cold. Not very Moroccan. The saffron rice was thick and solid. No fluffy. For the price, this was disappointing. I guess in Indiana this place is fine, but it would never survive in a big city with higher quality food standards like Chicago. Beautiful ambience and great service. Boring food, small portions, not very authentic. Seems like not much effort is put in to the menu.
