She is at MUSC…read more First- making the appointment was very easy- the receptionist was helpful and kind, and they got me in the same week for establishing a new patient relationship. The facility is clean and pleasant, and the staff were all lovely. Dr. Tabor took time with me, listened closely to everything I said, asked great questions and thoughtfully considered a plan, which we both agreed was solid. I walked away with complete confidence. They also drew blood on site. When I got t to the pharmacy my prescriptions had been forwarded and were ready. Altogether seamless. Since finding a great doctor is a challenge, and finding one that can see you quickly when you don't have an urgent concern, much less just need a new patient appointment, is a greater challenge, I consider myself very lucky. I'm grateful.

I had a very complicated bowel issue and after being punctured by him and then bled after a routine colonoscopy with him. I did NOT hear from him as he was at a golf retreat until several day later. His assistant was so rude told me and my husband and just snippily said to find a urologist (we were new to town) and finally he called at a time he knew my husband was not home but then he yesmammed me on the phone to try to cover up my worrisome questions but then told me to get a resection without information on his end or any kind of decent bedside manner. He was very dismissive, cold and condescending. He was correct about my needing surgery but never spoke to me or or my husband but couldn't wait to blow me off to his buddy surgeon rather than explain his concerns to me like a human being. My GI in nyc was also perplexed by his manner given my slides. He destroyed my confidence in medical care down here. And after I was so terrified I would continue to have the same computer clicking, no-eye-contact doctor (as this is the new way). I was new to a city and very worried. Don't expect comfort from him. Thank God I found great care elsewhere.

This patient hasn't had medical care in years, has moderate cognitive and substantial short term memory issues, and didn't know how to navigate support systems. Dr. Morgan has been helping us identify specialists to deal with his laundry list of medical needs. One of the most important aspects of care, especially with vulnerable individuals, is to treat the patient with dignity and respect. Dr. McKoy addressed our patient directly and has crafted a plan to deal with his issues. He has a care team to support our preparation for surgery and to help our family member and us through the process. I feel like we're in really good hands. One final note. Dr. McKoy is a person of faith, and asked if he could pray in advance of surgery and right then. He paused and offered a prayer in the moment. Why is this important? Haven't we all been seen by a medical practitioner who was arrogant and less than supportive at some point? No matter how brilliant they might be, their demeanor is painful. Frankly, I believe it's critical to have skilled providers who are able to engage with their patients on a human level. Dr. McKoy is an excellent example of such a practitioner.

On 3/21/2017 Dr. McKoy gave me a complete hip replacement. I am a Religious man myself, and when Dr. McKoy asked to pray with me for The Lord to care for me as the patient, and to guide his hands throughout the surgery, it became obvious that he was a man of faith and conviction, and one who practiced what he preached! For me, when putting my life in someone else's hands, I want them to be the hands of a Person with the integrity of a Dr. McKoy. Dr. DeCastro is a gem--smart, caring, and willing to spend the time it takes to listen to you and search for answers to problems that aren't immediately apparent. Although she is very much Western and academic in her approach, she doesn't dismiss the benefits of alternative medical therapies, assuming there is research to support them.
