I have used Marshall for many years to take care of my pickup, which now has over 200k miles. I have always found the work to be as promised without delay and reasonably priced. My questions have always been answered patiently and options presented I had one episode when an O2 sensor replacement failed. when I took it back, Scott replaced it without charge. I don't know what more I would expect for a faulty replacement part beyond the mechanic's control. I took the car to Marshall's on Friday, Dec 19. I paid for a repair on Monday, Dec. 22. As of January 7, 2026, the repair still hasn't been done correctly. The owner is never there in the afternoon, so each time I bring the car in, then learn that is hasn't been fixed, i have to wait until the next day, or the next week, to get any service. I want to support a local, small shop by they are just not reliable. This is literally the worst service I've ever gotten from a repair shop. read more

Great service, had inspection and skid plate removal done on an '02 toyota 4runner, along with diagnosing an issue on a lexus. He did not have the specific software to reprogram the computer (which is normal) but was still very helpful and reasonable. read more

I needed a new tire on my VW Passat. I tried 3 other places in town, and they all were swamped and needed me to leave the car for the day and they should be able to get to it. Or they said I could take the tire off myself, put on the spare, and leave the tire with them. I decided to stop by Marshall Tire since I pass it on the way to work. The manager, Scott, was very helpful, ordered the tire, and said he would call me when it got in and I could wait at the coffee shop across the street while they repaired it. Sure enough, by 10am the next morning the tire came in, they called, I dropped the car off, and got half way through my coffee before they gestured me over. Best service I've ever had on a vehicle! I see from the other review that they say Marshalls has higher than usual prices; this was not my experience. The exact same replacement tire cost $25 less than I paid 1 yr ago somewhere else, and the service for installing it was $15 less. But Scott also gave me the option for a tire with the exact same 45k mile warranty for $20 cheaper, so all told I paid $60 less for the same service elsewhere 1 yr ago. read more

Check Engine Light? Go to Autozone. This is my first online review. It makes me sad to write it, as it brings me no joy to potentially hurt a local business. I've been going to Marshall Tire & Auto for about a year. Though the prices have always seemed a little high, the employees have been friendly enough, and best of all: it's two blocks from my house. A few weeks ago, I took my family's CR-V to be inspected. I was soon told it was fine, but it needed new wiper blades, and unfortunately, CR-Vs require special blades which are $70 (which they'd already installed). I grumbled a bit, but decided to pay it. Then a couple days ago, I took our other car -- a Mazda 3 -- over to Marshall's because the check engine light had come on. A few hours later I received a call with good news: it was just my gas cap. (Our gas cap had been a bit funky for years, but it worked fine if you screwed it in right. Anyhow, I figured it was fine to get a new one.) The bad news. Total charge: $132.49. $80 to hook it up to the computer. $49.85 for the gas cap. Stunned, I walked over to pick it up. Arriving, at I asked if I could at least return the gas cap and buy it somewhere else cheaper. The manager hemmed and hawed a little bit, and eventually told me I was welcome to try, but that it might be hard to find that exact part for my exact car. Regrettably, I'm not a very confrontational person, so I just paid and left. That night, I was told that AutoZone will hook your car up to the computer for free. I immediately phoned them up (they were still open), and they confirmed this. On top of that, they had multiples of my gas cap in the gas-cap aisle. The guy said it's a common model, and cost $17. The next morning, I walked back over to Marshall's. The woman behind the counter, who has also always been nice, looked a bit dismayed when I told her my gas-cap situation. I also explained that I'd been a customer since moving to the neighborhood, and that I sure wanted to continue to be, but that I needed a break. "I could see charging me the $80 for the computer hookup," I said, "if I took that information, walked out, and went to have it fixed elsewhere. But this just seems really disappointing." She tried to explain that the computers at AutoZone / Advanced aren't as high-tech, that sometimes those computers make mistakes, etc. She also explained that Marshall Tire could never compete with AutoZone's prices because AutoZone is a big chain. Eventually, we'd both said our peace -- she wasn't going to offer to revisit the charge, and sadly, I'd have to find a new garage. I said I was sorry it couldn't work out, and left. But it was bothering me all day. My family doesn't have much money. I was a little surprised that they were unwilling to offer even a slight discount for a loyal customer. So I went back in to at least return the gas cap -- at least then I'd save $30+ from popping over to AutoZone. This time, the manager was there. He told me that he'd already thrown away the box. He repeatedly told me that he'd offered to return the gas cap from the start, as though he'd initially said, "Look buddy, I feel your pain... you might be able to find a gas cap cheaper somewhere else." (Of course, that had been MY idea, and he'd talked me out of it by suggesting that the part would be hard to find.) So now he wouldn't take my $50 gas cap back because he'd thrown away the cardboard box. I asked if he wouldn't just use it in the future? He responded that they "don't get many Mazdas" at Marshall Tire and Auto. Give me a break, dude. So I left, but not before my car was blocked in by another employee. Seeing that I was trying to leave, the employee mouthed something I couldn't understand -- I figured it was "be right over." After five minutes of nothing, I went and found him sitting in a nearby car reading his phone. Again I asked him to move it. He said that it was a customer's car, and that that customer would be coming out soon. Five minutes later, out came the customer, and I drove off of the Marshall Tire and Auto lot for the last time. I'll choose to believe the blocking in wasn't intentional, because it does me no good to think people are lousy. At the end of the day, I paid $132.49 for a gas cap. And well, I guess that's what Marshall Tire and Auto charges. Fair enough. That said, if it were my business, I'd surely have handled things differently at virtually every step of this interaction. If your check engine light goes on, go to AutoZone. Supposedly, their computers aren't as space age, but you may end up paying $17 instead of $132.49. read more

My battery died and I asked them to install a new one. They charged over $200 for the job, and when they returned my car, the hood latch was broken. I asked them for an estimate on replacing the hood latch and they said $285 even though the part only costs around $50 (I looked it up). So I canceled the order and asked another shop for an estimate and they say $85 including parts and labor. read more

Avoid at all costs! I left my car there for a state inspection with a stated pick-up time of 4:30pm the next day and when I arrived to get my vehicle I found the office closed and my car open and unlocked with a drained battery because the lights were left on. When I called the number on the business card I was very rudely told by the owner that I was at fault for arriving after they had closed even though I had arrived exactly when I stated I would on the form (4:30). Furthermore the owner claimed he had told me this when I had dropped my car off that morning when I had, in fact left, it there the night before. He also claimed to have told me this over the phone but, again, this interaction never occurred. Needless to say I would recommend Marshall Tire and Auto to anyone. read more

Scott failed my vehicle for the VA state inspection because of rust on the brake pads and or rotors. Showed me an estimate for over $600 and said I could have the vehicle back in an hour to hour and a half. Huh? Brakes had just been checked 30 days earlier and I was told everything looked good. I declined the repair - drove off with the FAILED INSPECTION sticker. Took car to my regular repair shop - had brakes rechecked - was told failing my car for the minor rust on pads/rotors was the equivalent of getting a speeding ticket for ONE mile over - perfectly legal but complete horse pucky. Was also told Marshall Tire is 'known' for this - location is close to UVA, students and parents and women get taken advantage of. PROBLEM is once you drive in for the inspection - the previous years sticker is immediately removed and you have NO option but to pay them to repair or drive off with a failed inspection sticker. I had time and option to have a trusted mechanic re check the brakes and go somewhere else for a state inspection. Vehicle passed- new sticker obtained. read more
