    Cracked compact

Went in today, didn't find what I was looking for but I found a NARS bronzer in a shade I use, so I thought that was cool. I opened it to check the integrity of the powder and it was cracked in the upper right corner (see photo). I couldn't find one in the same shade that wasn't cracked so I just picked one and figured they would mark it down at the register once they saw the crack. Upon checking out, a manager came over to look at the product and told me that she wouldn't mark it down because it wasn't cracked and it just looks like someone bumped it. Listen, a $2 markdown is not going to change my decision to buy it but I wanted them to recognize that the integrity of the product had been compromised and its a bad business practice to sell compromised products without a markdown. It says a lot about the company. I have worked for TJ maxx and as a practice, we always discounted compromised products. So that tells me that this manager was lazy and doesn't give a crap about the quality of items her store sells so long as you buy it and they get their money. I was so dumbfounded when she told me it wasn't cracked, all I could do was look at her. So I bought the stupid thing. But a powder is like a windshield, one crack will result in other cracks way quicker than if it was not cracked. It also means that it is no longer portable unless you want it to spill everywhere. So yes, the product was compromised and I am sure NARS would be as miffed as me to find that Marshalls finds the value of a cracked product and a non cracked product to be equal. She treated me like I was trying to pull one on her and get away with ripping off the store. A $2 discount!!! I have previously visited this store a few times a month for years and after today, I will not be back. Like, can you imagine hassling with these fools for a return if they sold you something that was compromised? I'd rather pay full price for the assurance that the store stood behind the quality of the product.

I can also always find parking but I may have to walk a bit to my desired location. They also decorate the pedestrian areas with flowers in the spring and summer and decorations around the holidays. I would love to give 5-stars but there have been a few times where I have felt unsafe at this mall. Once in May, I went to the public restroom with a friend and there was a homeless woman living in there who claimed it was her house and threatened us. She was erratic, unpredictable, and it was scary. Another time in May there was a man who was very unstable and screaming the word "slash" and he was acting like he was going to break shop windows and was lunging at people. That was also scary because he was unpredictable. I called the police this day and they said they had already received multiple calls about him. I saw him here again the following day. I also do not like all the people who push me to sign petitions. In short, I love Pearl Street Mall for the most part, I just wish it had more security to ensure the safety of pedestrians who are patronizing it.

Of course, first and foremost has been its main anchor, the venerable store for nearly everything from nuts and bolts to kitchenware and paint as well as animal supples and tools, lawnmowers and lightbulbs, sporting goods and clothing. You get the point. McGuckins! With absolutely wonderful staff and management. See my review for this great place. Another current favorite is Rincon Argentino, the best empanadas around and luckily for me, they are not fried, so much healthier and authentic to have the high heat baked style. See my review of them for specifics. My husband still uses Aspen Eyewear, another longtime favorite though I cannot, sadly needing a medical supplier but since the year that they opened, they have been our mainstay for glasses. See that review too. Grandrabbits, still the best wonderful carefully curated toy store in town. Though unfortunately we do not need them as much as in the past, as not only have our children gotten too old for most items, even our grandchildren have gotten beyond most of their range. But always nice for that special gift for any child. I used PakMail just the other day. Great for specialty shipping needs (which I did a few times) as well as supplies for do-it your self types like me. And though I have not been recently to Wood Grain Bagels, the French Cafe or Great Harvest Bread, Vitality Bowls, Brewing Market, they are appear to be thriving. Same for Sprouts. Also, Osakas, for Japanese fare which opened just before the pandemic but was enjoyable before as well as recently. Glad they could make it through the last few tough years. Check those reviews too. Sadly we lost a really great place at the beginning of the pandemic, wonderful Zolo Grill where we ate countless meals since its opening back in the mid 90's. But Big Red F Group still maintains several other options here in Boulder as well as elsewhere. They sure have grown. The old Boulder Ski Deals has been replaced by Epic Mountain Sports which I have not had a need to use, but Boulder Ski Deals was great for many years for some of our needs. There are a few empty spaces in the shopping center from the businesses recently gone, some we used, some we did not. But I am sure the management of this center will find suitable additions as times improve. And there is lots of parking unless there is a major holiday. Then, come early, in a smaller vehicle, carpool, and be creative.
