If you have the patience and the fortitude to maneuver the crowded aisles, it is highly likely you'll find something worth purchasing. I routinely scan the sale flyers delivered in our local paper, and if something I need is featured, I'll make a special trip to Belk. Most recently, there was a half price sale on mattress pads, and I needed a new king-sized one for a guest bedroom. Getting a high quality king mattress pad for under $40 is a great deal in my world. Customer service is generally good, although it helps to be prepared for a bit of a wait at the register, especially if there's a glitch in their computer system. (It happens more often than you'd think.)

Self checkout is new but already broken on a regular basis. They just tried to make the store feel a bit nicer so we don't complain about how expensive everything is getting while the quality drops. If this area had any other options for household items I'd never step foot in Walmart again, but sadly we don't. Every time I have to go to this store it ruins my whole day. At the very bare minimum I wish the employees were helpful and polite instead of rude and miserable all the time. You get paid the same, you could at least do your damn job properly.

The great thing is the prices are equal or much better than WalMart. The WalMart in Shallotte, NC is always packed with some "interesting" characters. Big Lots is a very pleasant departure from the big box stores.
