The great thing is the prices are equal or much better than WalMart. The WalMart in Shallotte, NC is always packed with some "interesting" characters. Big Lots is a very pleasant departure from the big box stores.

It is a treasure trove of upscale beach decor, women's clothing, accessories and gifts. The shop is bright and cheery and merchandised spectacularly. Your eyes can't take it all in and you feel the need to explore every nook and cranny of this boutique. There are many areas within this shop for jewelry, handbags, shoes, dish towels, beach tees, clothing, soaps, hand creams, placards and signs and so much more. I personally bought really cute sneakers, a soft Ocean Isle Beach sweatshirt and a bright fuchsia top. There were other things I wanted, but I just had to stop myself. They also only tend to carry bigger sizes, so if you're anything from a 00-6 they won't have your size. Five of us women walked into the store & were greeted with only a cold stare by the two employees working. No smile, no hello, nothing. As the youngest of the group, I guess I wasn't dressed to their standards (modest sweater, jeans) because the entire time they watched my every move as if I were a juvenile delinquent & was going to steal something. As if there was anything in there worth stealing. Anytime I walked into a part of the store that wasn't visible by the front counter one of them followed behind me and just watched; only me & none of the other (older) women I was with. My mother & grandmother tried to ask questions and seek assistance with some clothing items & were rudely dismissed. Workers also didn't allow us to use our homeowners discount, despite showing proof. Highly discourage anyone from shopping here, I'd recommend trying Island Breeze or J. Huffman both in Sunset Beach and both are highly skilled in customer service and satisfaction.

We entered the store, grabbed a wagon just in case, and started looking around. Like any Kohls, they have clothes for men, women, kids, juniors, and baby; They have bras, and underwear as well. They have bedding like sheets and comforters, as well as kitchen and bath towels. although i noticed very limited colors. I would think with spring coming soon, we'd have more colors like red, yellow, light green, blue, etc. Anyways, they also have some lamps and mirrors, as well as picture frames for decorations. We spent most of our time browsing the home section to see if anything looked good for us. but nothing was of interest, and we left without buying anything. Oh, and did use the restrooms here, and they were clean. Sometimes Kohls can be a hit or miss. Anyways, would be back soon!
