I remember coming here as a kid and over the years have seen this place has deteriorated. Part junk store, part tourist trinkets with some of the most unique arcades on the coast. Unfortunately most have an " out of order" sign. Jake, never leaves his glass cage, ugly as ever and still was wearing a Santa hat... Everyone has to go once. read more

It is worth a trip to Long Beach just to go here. Sure, there are cheesy knick-knacks, but there is awesome stuff too. When I just recently went there, I discovered that the ceiling is covered with history memoribila. Additionally, there are nickel claw machine and you can win corral and shells. However, when I was recently there, they seemed to have put large shells and corral on top and the small ones on the bottom, so it's hard to grab anything. I didn't win anything after 20 tries. There is also Jake the Alligator Man--he is pretty cool, but is he real? Real or not, I don't care, he's cool. (I think he is probably not real, but I've been told Santa is not real too and I'm holding out that he is, so maybe Jake is too!) read more

Like a lot of similar attractions in small tourist towns, Marsh's is really not so much a museum as it is a gigantic gift shop, thus putting the word "free" into serious dispute. There's all kinds of chintzy insanity here, including shells that are found nowhere near Long Beach, ribbon candy, and purity bracelets, plus lots of XXXXXL t-shirts in neon colors. If you can muscle past all that, and the tourists with kids whose names are Kodey or Montannah, then there's actually some pretty cool stuff in the back -- a lot of vintage games, antique knick-knacks, old detritus from the faded days of Washington State, and the like. And, of course, Jake the Alligator Man, one of America's top ten alligator men. read more

Marsh's is just a junky gift shop with an unusual amount of bizarre one-of-a-kind items, such as the "famed" alligator man which is just a garden statue that has been covered with some sort of vinyl(?). Crowded, not cheap by any means, but you might want to spend 60 seconds here just to convince yourself -- if you happen to be walking by -- if you are bored silly -- if you have no kids that might break things. This was the second time we have been here and it was still just as awesome. There is so much to see in this space, so many curiosities and doodads, you will want to wander for hours and hours. The employees were all really friendly and accommodating to all the questions we had but they also really stood back and let us explore. We came on a Monday morning so there wasn't very many people there so there was plenty of room to walk around and tinker with all the stuff. They have old slot machines that you can 'play' too so that is a plus to me. I ended up getting a bumper sticker to add to my car's collection and I will proudly display it. read more

This was a fun place to visit it's definitely more of a store than a museum but they do have some really cool stuff throughout to view and interact with. There were multiple old turn crank picture machines, some old record player type items that had little birds and things that would play music and sing and move around. The kids loved those. Little vintage claw type games. Tons of different types of stuffed animals including a half man half alligator!!! Definitely an interesting place to stop by! read more

This place is waaaay cool. My boyfriend told me we had to drive a half hour out of the way to go to Marsh's and I'm glad we did. We say Jake the Alligator boy and used up all of our change on the quirky machines and nickelodeons. And we walked out paying under $15 (we did buy a poster). I almost gave 4 stars because a bunch of the machines were out of order but even without them, it was still totally worth seeing. A good shopper could probably spend hours in here. read more

Unique, interesting, fun stop for the whole family. So much to see. Be ready to spend at least 45 minutes just browsing around. The items of the free "museum" (antiquities, trinkets, and such) are all around the store, especially on the ceiling. The store stocks all sorts of candy and funky touristy items. I love this place and always visit when I am in Long beach! All the very cool and eclectic swag on the walls and the Alligator man! Plus I don't know his name but a guy that works there has a Irish accent (I think) dresses in a Steam Punk Motif. I always like to chat with him and he ads a great personality to the place. If you like wacky and bizarre stuff and a great antique arcade you need to see this place. read more

This is such a nice place, family fun, and bonding. It was interesting seeing "Jake the Alligator Man" and shells, starfish, etc. There was so much there and it was a fun thing to do. There is things you can buy, from different prices, some are cheap, some are expensive. read more

I have memories of this place from child hood, and today it is just as good. Strange Taxidermy specimens (Think Jackalope), old arcade games, nickle picture flip films and wrapped through out is a large gift shop. read more

This was a must see for my family. We ventured on over after the kids rode the Go Carts and spent a good 30 minutes looking at all the trinkets, shells, and goodies. The kids loved the Jake The Alligator display and all the knick knacks that the store had. One thing to be aware of, the store is kind of cramped and can get really busy, really fast. Be careful if you have young children, as some of the merchandise is spendy and easily breakable. read more

Fun place to wander through with various oddities and antiques. My girlfriend found an interesting waffle iron that probably had washed up on the beach. She didn't buy it as it was too expensive, but it has caused her to look into getting one as a decoration. More places should have shops like this. read more

This place is a fixture of my childhood, and I have taken my own kids here several times as well, as recently as last winter. There's something magical and chaotic about Marsh's that sings to me. Jake, the penny arcade, the antiques all over the ceiling, the silly souvenirs. I was so excited to take my chaos & kitsch-loving partner to the museum for the first time this past weekend, so that he could peek into my history and see the crazy stuff. I have to say, for the first time in my 46 years, I was disappointed with the experience. Probably half of the old machines had "out of order" signs on them, and several more just unceremoniously ate our coins. My favorite machine - the full orchestra player piano, was also out of order, as was the fortune teller lady. It just seemed run down this time. The aging workers were not very enthusiastic, but they never were, so I'm not disappointed with that aspect. That's part of the charm - to have ladies your grandma's age selling you kitschy magnets and seashells. I read that the original guy died in 2005, and I'm now wondering if the spirit of the place died with him. Maybe it was just the end of tourist season and the machines all had had a rough summer of man (and kid) handling. I hope that's the case. I wonder who repairs those old machines, and I hope HE'S still alive. It just didn't feel the same and I'm sad. read more

Definitely worth going in to see Jake the Alligator Man. You know you've heard about this tourist attraction your entire life! What are you waiting for? Great little trip and the people; both young and old, will never, never forget the things you'll see in there! I know, I've tried! The best part is that it is free! We have been here many times over the years. It is a great place to bring first time visitors. It is a museum in the sense that there are a few strange artifacts with Jake the Alligator Man being best known. On a rainy day, and they are frequent, it is something to do. It is also a gift shop with plenty of kitsch for sale. Every beach resort town should have something like this. read more

I was a little confused by this place. I'm glad it's free because it's not much of a museum. We stopped in to see Jake, which by the way is super creepy. There was a little boy hiding behind his dad and peeking around to see it, it was pretty funny but I'm sure he had nightmares later. Some of the stuff was kinda cool to see, but it is packed in there with a lot of unnecessary items. It would've been better if we could've gone to see all the museum like items and then they had a gift shop on the other side, but I think the trick is to mix it all in to get people to buy the random tourist items. As a kid I'm sure I would've come out of there with some weird seashell item, but as an adult it was too much. I think we were there for about 10-15 minutes and then it was on to get some coffee. If you want to kill some time, I would say check it out. Otherwise stick to the beach, people watching and kite flying is way more interesting. read more

It's a giant tourist gift shop and not really a museum. There are some old fashion arcade machines in the back but other than that there is not much here that you would not find in any other vacation town gift shop. The alligator man attraction is a National Enquirer / Coney Island type exhibit that you might look at for 30 seconds. It is on the main strip of town so not hard to get to but don't make this a destination stop on your vacation. read more

Warning if you take kids to Marshes. The only disappointment I had was I took my grandson there for his birthday day. I told him he could pick out something, he couldn't decide so he chose the MYSTERY PACKAGE. My grandson turned 7, he was very excited. The mystery package contained a ASHTRAY. I wrote an email to the museum, asking them to remove all ashtrays from the mystery packages and I GOT NO RESPONSE. Since then I even thought they could start a kids mystery section. It is very exciting and cool for young kids, but if you are letting them buy something stay clear of the mystery packages. read more

Marsh's is just a fun stop! Yes, it's a tourist trap but I don't care! Lots of interesting things to look at and I always find some unique trinkets to take home! Been going there since I was very little and it is always the first place we stop when we visit! This time we bought a very pretty stained glass owl, a monogrammed pocket knife/key chain, a cool ring and a couple of white spindle type starfish! Also, there are interesting items outside the museum that can make for some great photo ops, such as the Bigfoot statue! read more
