Food has always been good. My family drove 40 minutes to the resturant to pick up food for dinner. When we got home there was a receipt not itemized attached to a bag. The receipt read what we paid which was around $65.83 When we arrived back home there was an extra pack of 4 tacos and a half bag of chips that looked like it maybhave been part of someone's lunch in the back. I called Martinez mexican resturant to see if I was charged for the extra tacos and to tell them about the chip misshap. A boy, or who I am assuming was of the immature nature answered the phone. After 4 times of telling him the issue, he stated that there is no one else but Sabrina who speaks English that I could speak to. My response was that I didn't care if they spoke English, they could probably understand the issue better than him. He stated that it was my fault for not asking for an itemized receipt​, he didn't see an issue and hung the phone up. Is this really how you treat return customers? Is this how you do business? I suggest the owner get someone more qualified to handle the customer service aspect and leave the little boy to doing the dishes. We as a family will never return and I ensure to tell everyone that I boasted to about your food to ask for an itemized receipt as to make sure your order is correct and you know what you are paying for. read more

First, their menu is extensive, which always worries me. But it was unfounded because our meals were delicious! We ordered the Carne Asada, Pork Tamales, and vegetarian Chilaquiles. Everything was outstanding! The service was fast and friendly and the prices were reasonable. The pork tamales were stuffed with a flavorful mix that was not too spicy and the beans and rice were great. My hubs Carne Asada was super tender and a large piece with grilled shrimp on top. My son's Chilaquiles were saucy and had 2 perfectly fried eggs. We left full and happy! The place is clean and not fancy. The food makes up for the lack in the interior design. I have to start this review off by saying that Martinez Mexican restaurant has THE BEST shrimp cocktail I have ever had. And they don't skimp on the shrimp either. There were seriously probably 30 shrimp in my meal...and I loved the fact that they were different sizes. I happened upon this place by searching YELP for a good Mexican restaurant for a lunch is was doing in Greenville, TN. Martinez Mexican Restaurant didn't have the highest rating on YELP, but it was very well liked. I chose it based on location and ordered. It was superb! I have Never had a Mexican Shrimp Cocktail this tasty and this packed with shrimp in my life, and I consider myself a shrimp cocktail connoisseur, I have eaten thousands all over the US and Mexico!!! That said, my doctor's office raved about all of the food I brought for the lunch and asked where I got it from, and I told them. They had never heard of this restaurant, but said they will order from there from now on!!! This place has really good chicken! I ordered the chicken chimichanga and my wife got the chicken nachos. The smoky flavored grilled chicken was on point and used in both entrees. The staff was friendly for the most part but a bit stand-offish. I wonder if they were confusing me for a rude customer or something. This was my first time there. I took a star because of this and one other reason below. Their salsa was fresh but had zero heat! None of the food had any heat (flavor was good though). I plan to return some time. That chicken and other meat are gonna be great, especially considering the grill out front that they had going! I want to give them another chance. One other observation: there were mostly Mexican or Latinos eating there which is generally a good sign. I'm a white dude so wonder if that bothered them. Like I said, I'll give them another shot. This is one of those places that could have been on DDD. (Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives). Definitely a dive and the food is fabulous! Absolutely authentic Mexican food. Well made and delicious. (I had the shrimp chimichanga, and my wife had the chicken fajitas.) There could be a few challenges, so... be forewarned... be patient, and don't expect to communicate like you just stopped into a Taco Bell. For the most part the staff does not speak English, only Español. Scanning the patrons it is no wonder they were a little surprised when we walked in. Let's just say they mostly cater to a homogeneous clientele and we didn't fit the demographics. That said, they were very welcoming, very friendly and pleasant and tried really hard to understand what we wanted to order. It took some pointing to the menu items and looking up a few translations of words on my iPhone but we got there. Frankly this little place provides a reason to figure out how to use that translator app on your cell phone if you don't speak Spanish. Do yourself a favor. Visit this little place for both the food and the experience. They have a full bar, a great menu. Fancy it's not. Quaint little neighborhood dive it certainly is! And... I mean that in a good way. Good authentic Mexican food. They have lots of traditional items and a few different but similar ethnicities of food on the menu. I was visiting from the west coast area, so it was nice to find Mexican food that wasn't slathered in some kind of nasty queso. They had good tasting complementary chips and salsa, and they obviously used homemade tortillas. Went with two other people, and all of us ordered vastly different dishes. This is honestly the best Mexican food I have had in this town! The chimichanga was amazing, and my husband loved his quesadilla. The salsa was good, but the cheese dip was perfect! The prices were very reasonable: about $26 for two drinks, two meals, cheese dip, and chips and salsa. The only "con" was some of the chips were a little stale. Otherwise, we had no complaints! The staff members were so sweet, service was quick, and the restaurant was clean. The location is a little hidden, so I feel like it doesn't get the recognition it deserves. I ordered french fries ($2.00), Beef Ribs with refried beans and Mexican rice (13.99), and a side order of guacamole ($4.99). The french fries were excellent, and the portion size was more than I expected. This is a definitely good and safe choice. The "beef" ribs were actually pork ribs. They were also burnt, although flavorful (the unburned parts). The refried beans may be made from white beans instead of pinto beans because they were white in color. The Mexican rice is nothing to write home about. Not worth the $13.99 they are asking for. The guacamole is fantastic. Good portion size for the money. However, the chips sent with the meal tasted as if the frying oil had not been changed in quite some time. Not a total disappointment, but I will spend my money elsewhere next time. I had the chicken nachos that were actually very good. The beans on my husband's order were quite watered down. But considering everything it was good. Some of the most authentic Mexican food I have had since moving to Tennessee. I ordered the Chilaquiles with Chile Verde and the Menudo. The chilaquiles came with Mexican rice and refried beans. The portion was huge. The only issue I had is the tortillas and sauce were not baked together with cheese. It looked as if the sauce was just poured over the tortilla chips. As for the Menudo, it was tasty, but missing the hominy (pozole). The portion was large and came with the traditional cilantro & onion (some places substitute oregano) and lime. More attention could be paid to trimming the tripe - it contained a great deal of fat and the pieces were not trimmed to bite-size. Overall, a good restaurant with good food. Ok, I'm not going to lie, I'm sorry, but this is the BEST Mexican food around. The carne asada tacos are LEGIT, and the salsa bar is OFF THE HOOK. Very nice people, but let me tell you, I've traveled all over living in CA and Mexico, and a lot of these East or Midwest places serve crappy ground beef because you don't know better, but these guys have it down right and give you the best! Arrived here about 8 pm and wasn't very busy. Got one of the specials which was polo loco and it was very tasty. Big portions and homemade corn tortillas. Salsa bar as well. Would get 5 stars but I ordered cheese dip but they forgot to bring it. Would definitely recommend and will be going back. read more
