Mora, one of the bartenders was great quick with my drink. I asked if I should get my normal old-fashioned or a margarita. He suggested a margarita. It was delicious and it had a mango flavor to it also ordered a chicken club sandwich with french fries and before that came out, he gave me a dish of mixed nuts, seasons, kind of like a trail mix, but not staying in the hotel so we also got 20% off the food although that does not include liquor, just food, but it was great experience. We're in downtown Chicago alcoholic beverages that taste good or not gonna be cheap. This is a martini bar. As a martini lover, this place was a must stop for us, as it was in the hotel we were staying at. We came on a Sunday night so it was super busy, we sat at the bar and chatted with the bartender. He was super talkative and welcoming, it was nice chatting with him. I had an espresso martini and it was good! Had we not been going to dinner, I would have tried another from their menu. A friend and I came here for the afternoon tea. It is a really cute idea and I loved this over "drinks". I loved the tea selections. We got the Asian tea and it included sushi, macaroons, scones, cupcakes and cookies. We were checked on a few times to make sure everything was ok. I booked via yelp reservations about 3 weeks out. I brought my boyfriend and his parents and they loved it! Once you walk into the hotel, you'll see the sign "Martini Bar" and the location is just to your right. It's a small section right next to the bar designated for afternoon tea. I thought it would be busy, but it wasn't and I went at 1PM on a Sunday. My experience was nice and quiet so other experiences may have been different. You're given a wide variety of teas to choose from and everyone in my party received their own tea pot with hot water. My first time. Went on a Thurs at 2 pm for high tea. Went alone for some "me time." I didn't use Groupon, since it was only me. Reserved thru Yelp. I requested thru the reservation for no pork products. There was great old school jazz -big band music on. There were 3 tables at 2 pm. I was by myself by 3pm. Service was quick, attentive. I had the whole place to myself!!! Went with traditional tea set; will try to return for the Asian tea set later. Started with the finger sandwiches (6): roasted veggies, egg salad, cucumber) and worked my way up the the 2nd tier: the blueberry scones and macarons. Sandwiches weren't bad. Couldn't get to the 3rd tier desserts and had to ask for takeaway. Enjoyed the high quality Rishi teas. Tried the jade cloud green tea--- will never go back to regular green tea --- it was so smooth! And no after taste! Next, tried the tangerine ginger (hibiscus, ginger, citrus), which was fruity and zingy. There were other flavors: mango chili, peppermint, earl grey, chamomile, strawberry mint. Stayed for a good 1.5 hrs unwinding and catching up on the internet. My bill was $25.09. Actually better than Groupon! ($60 for 2). Will compare to Palmer House tea time next. read more

I made a reservations weeks before Mother's Day. I was told by the manager that I didn't need to purchase the Groupon Deal. That since the prices were the same I could get it for that same amount. I was looking forward to having a nice tea party with my mom. Nice welcoming and attentive doormen. A nice relaxing and cozy atmosphere to enjoy a nice weekend getaway with family or friends. However, when we arrived it just seemed like the staff was unorganized. We waited about 5 minutes to be seated. The window seating area gives you a better view and better lighting. We selected our flavor of tea and the waiter came over with our tea pots. I was a bit disappointed with the food selections. Not very attentive. I had to keep asking the staff for more hot water for our tea. After, we were done the bill came and it wasn't upon what was agreed. I bought a Groupon for about $60 for the Afternoon Tea for 2, $80 value. We were a party of 4, I knew I'd pay full price for my additional 2 people. Reservations are required because the space doesn't accommodate many. The Martini Bar is comfortable- not stuffy but not fancy. Seating was low couches/chairs and coffee tables. The tea selection was nice, with standards like Earl Grey and peppermint, as well as more unusual blends. The macarons and scones were good. Other sweets were more ordinary, including mini cupcakes that could have come from a grocery store. Whipped butter instead of clotted cream. Finger sandwiches were just OK. Service was pleasant. The additional charge for 2 was only $45. This was cheaper than my Groupon. I don't know if they lowered the price after the Groupon deal? Anyway, while it was a pleasant time, I would not pay more than $50 for this. read more

We were actually seated at the bar despite making a reservation online. The employee said my appointment probably didn't go through and that next time I should call to reserve. So if you plan on coming here, be sure to call to confirm if you made a reservation online otherwise I would just call to reserve just to be safe. I am shocked that the hotel website does not show that the bar is closed and still allows reservations to be booked for Afternoon Tea. Went here for afternoon tea with a Groupon. Scheduling was something of a hassle, since the Groupon didn't initially say that a reservation was required, but my wife then received follow-up communication to the contrary. When we called to make a reservation, we had to schedule 6-8 weeks out due to their limited availability. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon a little early and were seated at a high top right away (used a parking app to get a spot in a garage directly across from the Knickerbocker for $12). There appeared to be a manager running the tea service, along with several buspersons currying food and drinks from their kitchen, which is not adjacent to the bar. The tea selection was nice, but no one spoke to us, just placed things on our table and walked away. I was disappointed in the food selection since hardly any of the savory items were vegetarian, and I wasn't given a chance to make any dietary requests with the manager or the busperson who brought our food over. The savory items included two each of: a triangle of pita with hummus, a chicken salad pinwheel bite, a piece of sushi. The highlight of the food was the scones and cream. Overall the Knickerbocker's atmosphere is pleasant, and the food that I did eat wasn't bad, but I don't think the service or the quantity of food lived up to the value of the tea (and that's with a Groupon!). We got a special deal on Travelzoo for afternoon tea which is located in a tiny corner of the lobby called "The Library." While our servers were attentive and the decor pleasant, the actual food served was a disappointment . For the ridiculously high price - even with a voucher - we expected higher quality sandwiches and desserts.
