Located about two blocks from the river, it's conveniently located in the Merchandise Mart area. It definitely has dive bar vibes. It's not a big place, so it probably gets full during sporting events. It was pretty dead when we were here around 6 PM on a Tuesday. They advertise three dollar mystery shots on their website. It ended up being a thimble sized sour apple tasting liquid - not worth $3. They don't offer a happy hour, but the drink prices are reasonable for this area of Chicago. Their wine glasses are small, so don't count on any heavy pour. The glass probably holds 6 ounces if filled to the brim. They have a better than average bourbon selection for this type of bar. My favorite thing was a T-shirt I bought. I don't think I can post a picture because it uses the actual word but it says Drink Up B!tches in green letters and all caps with a shamrock above the phrase. The back has another green shamrock and the bar's name. I will be wearing this every St. Patrick's Day from this point forward. They have a small food menu of mostly fried food and sandwiches. The kitchen is located inside the restaurant at the end of the bar so you can see it. Let's just say I would not order a salad from here (which is on the menu). For a dive, this place isn't bad at all. Came here last night around like 12am, and it was DEAD. Not complaining though, because I hate super busy bars if I am sitting at a table. They have very cheap food (love that!), and the food is actually pretty good! Try the mozz sticks. My boyfriend ordered a beef sandwich and had no complaints, and their beer and drinks are cheap here, as well. Honestly, River North can be super overrated, so it's nice to have a nice and chill place to be able to go without burning a whole in your pocket. Tip: debit and credit cards have a $10 minimum. The workers were nice when we were here, and the only complaint I really have is that the place smelled like bathroom... but honestly, I feel like most bars smell like that sadly haha. Sometimes, you just need a dive bar for a cheap drink and some fun with friends. In a neighborhood with plenty of upscale options, Shamrock Club may be the unpretentious, hole-in-the-wall you want. This is the sort of place that wraps a bottle of liquor to block the label and promotes "$3 Mystery Shots." It's also the kind of place that attracts guests that think it's funny to write homophobic pejoratives on the faces of people appearing in ads in the bathroom. (I don't find it funny; I find it immature and unwelcoming, and I prefer bars that clean up that sort of offensive graffiti.) If you want a clean bar with great drinks, this won't be your style. If you want a casual, dingy place lit mostly with neon beer signs where you can get drunk cheap, this is probably right up your alley. read more

A co-worker and I decide to go out for Happy Hour after work. It's Friday and we worked all week. What better way to celebrate than happy hour. SC is located right around the corner from where we work. We left work and was ready to enjoy the start of our weekend. The place is pretty nice inside. A pool table located in the back of the bar. The atmosphere started off chilled and had a relaxing vibe. The customers were seated at every other tables. We were like ok cool SC is following the guidelines for open bar. We placed our order a nice glass of chill wine. The music was enjoyable and there weren't that many people. The host came over with a basket of fresh hot popcorn. Yummy. We were in a midst of our conversation. When a group of 15 young adults came into the bar. They were all surrounding the bar area. Some were not wearing mask. To my surprise the owner/manager or whomever didn't seem to even care. That was our cue to pay our bill and get out of dodge. We couldn't believe how this didn't seem to be an issue for the manager. Poor judgement call. I won't be returning here. What started off as a nice relaxing after work happy hour turn sour real quick. I saw this tiny pub out the window of my car while my roommate and I were haplessly trying to find parking near our friend's hotel and knew that visiting Shamrock Club was far more important than seeing Mari. Who would've thought there'd be a small, hole in the wall, reasonably priced pub in the typically upscale river north? While the service took a very (very) long time because there was one person working the bar and kitchen, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. "Is the bathroom nice?" I looked at my girlfriend like she was an alien and said, "It's the Shamrock. Nothing is nice. Functional. But never nice". But the Shamrock knows what it is good at. Strong drinks with a price tag that doesn't sting. A jukebox that plays just about everything. And a pool table in the back to show off your craft. Even the food is decent for a dive bar. Home Run Inn pizza (a large, one topping for $9) was quickly devoured by our group as were the fries. The service was spot on- amazing since on the night we were there- this was a one woman show with Patty the bartender being chief cook and "bottle washer" running from behind the bar to bring us our beer and shots even after we offered to come up and get them. Haven't been here in a while, but I remember coming to this place when my co-workers always wanted to bitch about the job after work a couple of years ago when I worked at the Merchandise Mart. This place gets really cramped after 5PM because its kind of a small space. A long island can run you about $5-$6 and I remember beers being around $3-$4. Sometimes it can be hard getting a drink when it gets crowded. Drinks are actually cheap here (they pour a pretty good drink here)and they have a good burger & fries here. There is a pool table in the back for you billiards fans. In the summertime they have a small outside patio seating area, which I have never seen filled up. I've been coming here since 1997 and pretty much all has remained the same including the staff who are friendly and courteous! The chefs (specifically Abraham) are amazing. On Wednesday's they have 3 Tacos as a special with a drink (beer included) for under $10. It's a sweet deal just make sure to do it right and order with onions/cilantro and corn tortillas. Other items that are great is the Rib Eye Sandwich and their burger. Free popcorn is available too in the front of the bar. Go to the back of the bar if you wanna shoot pool. They also have a TouchTunes jukebox as well! Street Parking can be tricky but you can take the Brown Line and get off at the Merchandise Mart. I get that this is a dive bar... but damn! At least employ people that like their job. Went there last night and this guy we thought was the bartender was behind the bar. Asked him if they had anejo tequila. He said yes, while trying to pour regular blanco tequila. I then told him that's not anejo. He got pissed and slammed the bottles together while throwing them back on the counter. You'd think he would know what anejo is since he's from Spanish decent. Then found out he was the cook. Apron and all. A cook behind the bar, tending. I honestly don't know how this place managed to get 4 stars. Looks to me like the owner has a lot of friends to write these "reviews" for her. Oh.
