Was thrilled when Marty's opened up in The Heights a few years ago. We were starved for quality, traditional American quick service restaurants. I won't leave a long review, but I'm gonna share a few thoughts from my frequent visits: The food is fantastic. I honestly prefer Marty's to its closest major chain comparison, Shake Shake. It's all so delicious and picture perfect every time; a feast for the belly and the eyes. Recently, a new competitor showed up in town (Smash and Zingers). I gave them a fair chance, ordering twice and trying different items, but I wasn't very impressed. My latest order with them sealed the deal that I will be going back to Marty's as my main local burger spot. My only gripe is that the fries can be a bit soggier than I like. Was hoping they'd fix that over time, but it's yet to be addressed. read more

Best burger place in town. Me and my wife's go to for take out. I usually order the double patty cheeseburger on a potato bun(potato bun is better than their regular sesame seed bun in my opinion). Spicy chicken sandwich is one of the best around. We get regular chicken strips for the kids...they love them. We end our order with a Cookies and Crème milkshake(my wife's favorite). The service is always fast and people are always cheerful. The ambiance of the place is always laidback - kind of a beach town vibe. I would say the only room for improvement I would recommend is changing their entire French Fries system. I've ordered from both this location and the other JC location and almost every time they Fries are a disappointment. They're always soggy and just overall not good. BEST BANANA PUDDING!!! Ok everyone, gather round because my mind is blown, and you need to hear this. And if you live near a Marty's, you'll thank me later. So, last night, my friend was looking for a REAL chicken sandwich. Like, she didn't want a recycled chicken sandwich, she wanted somethin real! So she came across Marty's on Postmates. She showed me the picture they had of their chicken sandwich and wondered if it actually looked that way in person AND if it actually tasted good. So, she ordered the chicken sandwich, plus some salt & vinegar fries, PLUS.....some banana pudding. The food arrived and she is fully thrilled with the chicken sandwich. I didn't taste it, but it looked amazing! I did get to taste those salt & vinegar fries, and they SLAPPED.....me across the face! You could tell they're actual handcut fries, and that vinegar flavor was everything! Now...we waited a while, but eventually end up bustin' open that banana pudding. We both had a spoon. She got up in it first, and because I know her and her expressions, I knew this was a serious (good) matter. I couldn't wait, so I got up in it and my life is now forever changed. That banana pudding tastes like pure LOVE! It tasted like somebody's grandma was in that kitchen, making this banana pudding. It's so well balanced, not too sweet, but just right. There are wafers in it that become kinda cakey after sitting and it is simply perfection. I've had a lot of banana pudding....this is THEE banana pudding that you NEED! I thought about that banana pudding all night, and probably dreamed about it. So today, I walked over to Marty's, raved over it to their staff, who informed me that it is in fact a family recipe, and I ordered another. The staff were so sweet, and I plan to go back to sit in and try their chicken sandwich. The banana pudding has me in a chokehold. I cannot get enough. You need to get some! read more

We traveled from Va to NJ for the JayZ concert. Stopped at Marty's when we first arrived Friday evening. The Classic Burgers and Old Bay Fries were everything!! It's definitely real beef and they actually hand cut their fries!!! Everything was FRESH and SOOOO GOOD!!! I didn't waste nothing!!! The staff were friendly and the service was quick. Not really a long wait after ordering either. Had to go back today before we headed back to Va. Again, I left no crumbs lol. Went to visit a friend that loves this place, we dropped in to grab some food. I ordered the mushroom burger. I love seeded buns, so that was a plus, big onion fan, I ordered extra sautéed onions. I felt the burger lacked moisture and could have had a bit more flavor, comes with Swiss cheese which I enjoy, my least favorite part was the Dijon mustard, should have requested no mustard. Tried the fries, which I thought were very good. Authentic and fresh cut fries is always a win. Also sampled my friends milkshake, which was extra rich, creamy and delicious. The staff was super pleasant, friendly with smiles on their face. The classic diner vibe is always a yes in my book. Spacious booths and all seemed very clean. So this place is somewhat of a legendary myth in my family. My brother and sister-in-law live very close to this establishment, and their kids absolutely adore Marty's. Every time we go out to dinner, they somehow work Marty's into the conversation - alas, whenever we've considered ordering from Marty's, it's unfortunately been a Monday and the dream quietly slips away from our grasp (because they are closed on Mondays, lol). Well, friends, I can finally say Marty's is not a myth - it's very much real, and I enjoyed every minute of this fast food burger joint. I can understand why my nieces go bonkers over this burger. The market is absolutely saturated, and Marty's definitely stands out to compete with the best of them - it's no wonder why they are branching out and there are multiple locations. Marty's offers a variety of dishes to keep your greasy, junk-food fantasies happy - from burgers to chicken sandwiches, shakes to banana pudding. I opted for a BYO-burger as opposed to one of their 'deluxe' menu options because I wanted a good baseline. My standard order is cheeseburger with both raw and grilled onions plus pickles. Everything about the burger was fresh - from the bun to the meat and the condiments. I would have liked to have seen a little more char on the smash burger, and the pickles were sweet bread-and-butter style as opposed to a sour dill, but other than that, the burger was mighty fine. In fact....it is the closest thing to an In-and-Out burger that I've had on the East Coast, and that is saying something. I think Marty's should consider coming up with their own version of Animal Style to grab in those West Coasters, because they burger was VERY close to that particular well-known establishment. We also opted for the fries and chicken tenders. The fries were excellent - hand cut, but a little thicker than most hand-cut fries which I appreciated. The fried chicken was also delicious - definitely hand battered - but I found it to be a little too salty for my tastes. I would still eat it, though. I think there's always going to be a deeply buried, subterranean part of my psyche that will respond to the thought (memory) of fast-food burgers. I can envision myself on my deathbed, having forgotten pretty much everything else (dementia is a horrible condition, and I probably shouldn't even joke about it, but it can have a left-handed benefit sometimes-- John Wayne Gacy's mother had it before she died, and in her last years was able to completely forget that son of hers who became a serial killer), and singing hoarsely as I approach in extremis, "Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, special orders don't upset us, all we ask is that you let us serve it your way... " I haven't had any in a long, long time (with the recent exception of 30 Burgers in Hoboken, which pretty much rated a "Meh" in my personal estimation). But those burgers of the past? I remember when Hardee's opened an outpost in Wayne, NJ, during my childhood. I thought those burgers, those fries, that Coke, that molten hot apple pie, were the best things I had ever eaten (next to Mom's lasagna and Pinto's Pizza in Hackensack). Hardee's disappeared (at least in Wayne it did), and I "progressed" to McDonald's and Burger King. At some point during my early adulthood, I gave it all up. I wasn't necessarily living a healthy lifestyle...I liked my booze, I liked my pills, I liked that occasional "other thing," etc., etc.,...but I was working out, running, and was probably in the best shape I've ever been in overall, drinks/drugs notwithstanding. Too, what had tantalized me in childhood as far as my tastebuds went didn't necessarily pack the same punch in adulthood. If I went on a long drive somewhere, and hadn't eaten, maybe I'd grab a "fast food" burger and fries, but invariably I regretted it. In time, that stopped. A few years ago, while my father was still alive, I was traveling up from Maryland (where he lived out his last years with my sister), was coming up Rt. 31 in NJ, and I stopped at the Burger King. By that point, I had heard about the new "Impossible Burger," which was plant based and supposed to taste like those ol' fashioned meat hamburgers. Overly hopeful, I bought one, ate it, and decided I had been deceived. They were right; it was "impossible" (not in the way they used that word, obviously), tasteless. Just not worth the effort of buying it, or the price. Healthier than a beef burger? Maybe...but why bother? Recently, the Lunchbox Mafia where I work in Hoboken decided to give 30 Burgers a try. Being a "team player," I placed an order with my associates. I subsequently reviewed the place on Yelp. The burger (not "Impossible" but a turkey burger concoction, as I remember it) was OK, but not enough to re-ignite my childhood love for fast food burgers. When we were to order take-out again recently, the 1st choice was for Cuban, which I reluctantly agreed to. Not reluctantly because I don't love Cuban food (I do, although I don't know much about it), but because it wasn't going to do anything for my ongoing diet (I wanted to try the "wheat shake" and of course I wasn't going to be able to resist the Tres Leches cake) but the delivery time wasn't suitable for our schedule. The New Godfather (of lunch) suggested 30 Burgers again, but I wasn't enthused. He then said, "What about Marty's?" I had never heard of Marty's, but he informed me that it was a chain, with places in Jersey City, Hoboken, and Ft. Lee. To this, we all agreed. Trying to stay somewhat healthy, I ordered the "Impossible Burger," deciding to give it another chance. (It's listed as being comprised of a vegetarian burger, vegan cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles and a House Sauce.) I was going to order a side of the Mac'N'Cheese, because I'm a sucker for Mac'N'Cheese (another cherished dietary memory from my childhood; my mother made great Mac'N'Cheese), but finally decided not to, as most "fast food" Mac"N'Cheese I've ever ordered seems to arrive in front of me as a congealed, gummy, flavorless mess. So I ordered instead the "Original Fries," with the understanding that I'd split them with the Old Godfather (of lunch). (He's also trying to diet.) I was also going to go for a vanilla milkshake, but I find the "fast food" milkshakes I've ordered to be little more than an overly sweet, thickened foam. Why take on the added calories for such an insipid payoff? On further reflection, I passed and stuck with water. In all honesty, I wasn't expecting too much. But the burger I had was actually pretty tasty. Part of that was because of the pickles, and a heavy hand with the saltshaker, but by the time I finished it, I halfway wished that I had ordered a 2nd one. I don't think it's going to re-ignite that childhood weakness for fast food burgers. But I'd certainly be willing to give it another try at some point in the future. Maybe I'd even be willing to try the Mac'N'Cheese. Recommended. read more

The place was hopping and it didn't slow the whole time we were there. The staff are so energetic and the service was great! If you are thinking about having the shake, do it! It was delicious! . Honestly I love Marty's and I'm not the biggest burger fan. I usually don't eat burgers often. But lately I find myself ordering Marty's often for a yummy burger and an order of fries. I have tried their truffle fries too and they are my favorite but this time around I switched it up and decided to get their original fries. I like their homemade sauce and their spicy sauce it's a great addition to my burger or to dip my French fries in. First time ordering from here on UberEats. I got the BBQ burger, subbed jalapeños for spicy pickled peppers, salt and vinegar fries, a chocolate milk shake and side of cheese sauce. The burger might have been the best burger I've ever eaten. The fries came a little soggy but they were still very tasty And I was able to crisp them up in the air fryer. ++++ Vegetarian Review of a Burger Place++++ I can't say anything thing about their meat since I'll never have it. I can say I know people that like it and I know people that do not like it. I love that they have an impossible burger on the menu and that you can get substitute it on any burger. I've had the Impossible Burger off their menu and thought it was okay. The Swiss Shroom Dijon burger with an impossible patty on the other hand is fantastic (sauteed onions and mushrooms, dijon mustard). I have had their regular fries and liked them... but their salt and vinegar fries are a revelation. The flavor was perfect, not too strong but you definately get the salt and vinegar flavor. Food here is great! Negative review is 100% on the service. We waited close to an hour patiently for our to go order. Meanwhile the food had been sitting on the counter for 30mins. The woman that took our order gave a sarcastic chuckle and said "I called your name." She did not, we were sitting right next to the order counter. Annoyed and with a starving toddler we left only to see the order was missing my child's food! When I came back to complain (5min) about the soggy cold fries and the item missing. I was ignored by the same woman. I started speaking and complaining. Another customer tried to get her attention and she put up her pointer finger in his face told him to wait. She then said there was nothing she could do but remake the entire food or give me the missing item. I told her I'd take the cold burgers but to remake and refund the fries and missing item as our time was completely wasted. She said no, my options were remake and wait another 20mins or refund and leave empty. I said remake it, waited five minutes and then asked if our ticket was next on the fire line, she said no... I asked for a refund and she started singing and dancing to the music on while providing the refund. This was the manager! From the moment we walked in she provided terrible service, simply saying hi then running around busy handling drinks there was never a follow up "let me know when you are ready" or even eye contact. We asked her is she was ready to take our order. This was all the same person who claimed to be the manager. I'm writing this review hoping someone can correct or speak on this customer service and adjust accordingly because being in this industry I realize your food can be amazing but if the people selling it lack the ability to be aware, to genuinely apologize, act, and provide additional hospitality, your food doesn't matter. The 5 piece chicken tenders ($8.49) are average sized and good quality. They're tender inside and dry outside. The outside is bland and so is the house sauce, so honey mustard is the move. New location of Marty's and just as tasty as the original Fort Lee location! We ordered the BBQ burger, jalapeño burger, truffle and parm fries, milkshake and banana pudding. Burgers were both awesome - super flavorful and giant burgers (look at the pics)! Loved the really thin slices of jalapeño too instead of enormous slices with no finesse sometimes at other places. I was pleasantly surprised by Marty's. I hadn't been to their Fort Lee location, but i was waiting for it to open up in the Heights for a few months now. The cheeseburger was so tasty. Sesame seed buns are a personal favorite of mine. The spicy chicken sandwich was extra crispy and had a medium kick to it. I'd recommend it even for those who don't like too much spice. The disco fries / poutine style reminded me of Montreal. The cheese curds were presented on the side already slightly melting in the gravy. This way the fries were able to stay crispy and not get too soggy. The Mac and Cheese is a great option as a kid's meal: the portion size felt like a lot as a side, but it's just the right size if you are looking for a filling snack.
